Hi, do you have advice for someone who's been a burnout for their entire adult life?
In school I did well in most classes, and was lucky to just about get into a law course in uni which I was interested in and excited about. But I ended up dropping out a few months in because of SA.
I've been dealing with trauma and depression, I developed an ED at one point too which I've recovered from.
In the last year and a half I've been in a better place, however I have no education or work experience despite almost being 25. Last year I tried to do an office skills course but got overwhelmed going back to school after years of being out of it and dropped out. The only work experience I have is the work experience I did as a part of this course which was just 2-3 weeks of working as a receptionist in a local office. I've been trying to look for jobs, but even specifically looking for ones where no experience is needed isn't helping. Even McDonald's asked me for a reference (I don't even have any friends who can lie for me because I drifted apart from my friends after falling into depression). It feels so disheartening when even the most menial of entry level jobs don't want me. Hell even an unpaid volunteer post turned me down.
I feel like I've already ruined my life even though I'm not even 25 yet. Especially because the girls I was friends with in school mostly have degrees and even the ones that don't have qualifications and jobs.

You’ve overcome trauma, depression, and an ED. That’s huge. Comparing yourself to others makes you feel "behind," but life isn’t linear. Some struggle early and find their way later. Most important is to be honest with yourself and do things that make you feel good instead of focusing on societal standards.
What you can do next:
Get References without work experience. Volunteer informally (help at a small business, babysit, tutor, assist a friend).
Get work without traditional applications. Show up in person at local cafes, retail stores, or offices instead of just applying online. Target small businesses that don’t have strict hiring processes.
You can also focus on learning or bettering your skills. Take short, free courses (Google Certificates, Coursera, Udemy). Try gig work (Upwork, TaskRabbit, Rev) or sell things online. Look for temp or internship roles to build experience fast.
I don't know what interests you have in terms of career goals so it is hard for me to say. But all I will say is that in every space, there are many ways you can create your career and thrive that is not just the "traditional" route.

Job hunting is getting to me….
Like, it will be listed as only $8.50 and hour and part time, BUT they say they hours are 12hr shifts, overnight, six days a week! If that’s part time, what the hell do you think is full time?
Or they will refuse to tell you what the pay will be. Not just not specifically, but even the ballpark. Do they tell you after you finish the application? I dunno, I don’t want to work in your fast food restaurant if you think company loyalty and happy customer speak matter more than telling me if it’s starvation wages.
Or they require experience, say five years experience, to qualify for their entry level $9.50 per hour job. FFS if I had five years experience I’d probably be looking for promotion and not just moving to a new business!
Or the require a bunch of skills that could easily be gained on the job.
Or degrees or formal qualifications that seem way too high for what seems to be a nothing job.
Or they want you to have physical abilities that suggest they probably expect you to do unreasonable things (stand 8hr shift with no breaks for a grocery store? Lovely).
Or they demand to have references for a supposed entry level job.
Or their forms don’t allow for not having worked for a boss in several years.
Or they require you to input info into an autofill form that doesn’t have the info you need in their data base (say the name of my old high school!)
Or they have assessment tests that are timed but my internet/computer is slow and glitchy.
Or the questions are the assessment are written in such a way it invites overthinking.
Or….
So far no luck. No degree, no formal prior employment, do car that you’d trust for heavy driving jobs, no reliable internet for online jobs, living in a place where daily there are only a couple of new job listings within ten miles anyway. Of course I have had no luck after 2 1/2 months of looking!
And every day I scroll through the list again, trying to figure out if I should apply for a job I skipped before because I lack skills or doubted my abilities or just thought it sounded like they were screwing over anyone that would work for them. And I check jobs I already applied for months ago, just in case this is new listing ‘cause damn, how many months are they going to take to hire someone…..
Then I spend the day depressed and anxious, trying to figure out how much longer I can survive on the money I got from Mom’s insurance and how I can cut back more** If only I could get a job that paid me something….
I work hard, even to the point of harming myself, to get a job done. I’m reasonable intelligent and physically capable. I have never committed a crime, taken drugs, don’t drink, don’t smoke, have been mocked for my extreme honesty and ethical standards. I am generally agreeable and friendly. I completely believe I could do most of the jobs listed (even some where I don’t have the qualifications!), so I really figured I could at least get a stock shelves and run the register type job.
Nope. Not good enough.
No one gives a damn about me anyway. No one calls me, checks on me, thinks about me at all. No one will come to my rescue in an emergency. The world thinks, “Poor? You probably deserve it by being lazy or stupid. Then just die and stop being annoying.” I want to keep surviving anyway, thanks all the same.
Geez, I have got to figure out how to make enough money to at least keep living in the squalor to which I have become accustomed. Somehow…..
**Look, I ration everything. I dread how hot it’s gonna be next week when it’s 95F and I’m still not running air conditioner until midnight till dawn. And the dogs and cats absolutely HATE the ultra cheap feed I get now (instead of the next cheapest…Walmart brand…UGH) and Ryoga is noticing he doesn’t get apples as his daily treat but only a part of an apple, and geez I want fresh fruit and veggies myself and to not have to eat a batch of mac and cheese for ten days in a row. Hell, I wash my hair with Dollar Tree dishwashing detergent ‘cause have you seen the cost of shampoo, and I already have the detergent, sooo….And don’t get me started on the fact sole of the boot on my worse foot has broken down AND one of the lacing loops on one ankle brace tore off so now I have to spend $70 on fucking boots and maybe another $25 on an ankle brace so I can stop being in agony with every step. And oh god, I got my pickup inspection passed on the promise I wouldn’t drive it much until I replace two tires, but that was six fucking months ago and I STILL don’t have $300 to spare. And….
UGH! Anyway, the point is I really have run out of ways to save.

DEI Is a Joke—It Never Helped Black People, and It Never Will
For years, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) has been sold as the answer to racial disparities in corporate America, education, and beyond. Companies, universities, and government institutions poured billions into DEI programs, hiring Chief Diversity Officers and holding endless workshops on unconscious bias.
And what did Black America get out of it? Nothing.
Actually, it’s worse than nothing. DEI has backfired—creating more resentment, reinforcing stereotypes, and making it even harder for Black people to be judged on merit. The data is clear: DEI has not improved opportunities for Black workers in any meaningful way. Instead, it has helped fuel diversity theater while enabling discrimination under the disguise of “equity.”
It’s time to admit the truth—DEI is a joke, and Black people are the punchline.
The Numbers Don’t Lie—DEI Has Failed Black People
Despite all the talk about “equity” and “inclusion,” DEI hasn’t moved the needle for Black workers or students in any significant way.
• A 2023 Harvard Business Review study found no measurable improvement in Black hiring or promotion rates after companies implemented DEI initiatives.
• The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that Black unemployment remains consistently higher than White and Asian unemployment, even as corporations roll out aggressive DEI policies.
• A 2021 McKinsey report revealed that while Black employees were hired into entry-level positions at a decent rate, they were still vastly underrepresented in leadership roles, proving that DEI helps companies meet quotas but does nothing to actually advance Black talent.
So what’s really happening? DEI isn’t fixing discrimination—it’s making it more subtle.
Hiring managers, who don’t want to be accused of racism, are now reluctant to give honest feedback to Black employees. Executives, afraid of being labeled as biased, hand out token promotions while keeping real decision-making power in the same hands as before.
DEI has become nothing more than a corporate PR stunt—a way for companies to pat themselves on the back without actually investing in real economic empowerment for Black communities.
DEI Fuels Resentment and Reinforces Stereotypes
Instead of leveling the playing field, DEI has made it easier for people to assume that Black success isn’t earned—it’s handed out.
• Black professionals who actually worked hard, got educated, and built real skills now have to deal with whispers about whether they got their jobs because of merit or because of DEI hiring quotas.
• A 2022 Pew Research survey found that 70% of White employees believe DEI efforts prioritize race over qualifications, fueling the belief that minority hires are not as competent.
• At elite universities, Black students who gain admission on their own merits still face doubt and condescension because DEI policies make it seem like standards were lowered for them.
In other words, DEI doesn’t just fail to help Black people—it actively makes it harder for them to be seen as equals.
Before DEI, a Black professional could walk into a room and be judged by their skills, experience, and work ethic. Now, thanks to “diversity hires” and “affirmative action initiatives,” there’s always a lingering question: Did they really earn it?
That’s the ugly legacy of DEI—it doesn’t create equity, it creates doubt.
DEI Protects Institutions, Not People
If DEI actually worked, we’d see Black homeownership rising. We’d see Black wealth increasing. We’d see Black students excelling at higher rates. But none of that is happening. Instead, DEI has become a shield for the same institutions that caused these problems in the first place.
• Corporations use DEI to avoid talking about real economic issues. Instead of offering better wages, better job training, and actual investment in Black communities, they throw out a diversity statement and call it a day.
• Universities use DEI to distract from the fact that their tuition costs are crippling Black students with debt. Instead of lowering costs or providing meaningful career opportunities, they create useless DEI departments that do nothing but push social justice rhetoric.
• The government uses DEI to avoid real policy solutions. Instead of addressing failing schools, crime, and job training, politicians push DEI as a feel-good distraction from their lack of action.
DEI isn’t about fairness. It’s not about justice. It’s a corporate insurance policy—a way for institutions to look good while keeping the status quo intact.
Real Change Won’t Come from DEI—It Will Come from Rejecting DEI
The harsh reality is that Black progress in America has never come from diversity initiatives. It has come from competition, excellence, and self-determination.
• Black entrepreneurs didn’t build successful businesses because of DEI—they did it through hard work and economic strategy.
• Black athletes didn’t dominate sports because of DEI—they did it because they were the best at what they do.
• Black scholars, inventors, and leaders didn’t make history through DEI—they did it by proving they belonged in the room through skill, talent, and intelligence.
The way forward isn’t through more diversity training, quotas, or corporate virtue signaling. The way forward is through competition, accountability, and real economic opportunity.
If the NBA, the NFL, and the music industry operated on DEI rules, Black talent wouldn’t dominate—because it wouldn’t have to prove itself. The same should be true in business, academia, and every other industry.
DEI tells Black people they need a leg up to compete. That’s an insult. Black excellence has never needed handouts—it just needs an even playing field.
It’s time to stop falling for the DEI scam and start demanding real opportunities, real respect, and real success.

A diary entry...
Dear past (and I suppose future) me,
Rejection is hard, finding a way to not mind it is even harder. Not qualified enough to work in a bookshop because I've never worked in a shop before! If I don't get a job in a shop how am I supposed to be qualified enough to work there?! I assume that's why I didn't get the job, well that and accidentally making the second bullet point under skills on my CV 'excellent skills', (I assume there was supposed to be more but I got either distracted or interrupted), still I think that's funny, and not a reason not to hire someone.
Because I've done work experience at both the Somerset heritage centre (for I think six weeks) and Somerset libraries (Taunton for 1 day, Wellington for 4 days, it was shut on Wednesdays hence Taunton). I've worked for a year in an apprenticeship at musgrove park hospital Taunton (as a secretary in histopathology). I've worked from home for a health and wellness company. I've been running my own business since I was 17 (lots of dealing with every single kind of customer on the planet) and I still am. I've done private cleaning and I have done and am currently doing commercial cleaning.
I own well over a thousand books. That I'm slowly organising back into the library style filling system I used to have for them when I had far less of them. I can talk intelligently about books, genres, plot lines, good and average writing styles and authors for days with anybody else who's willing to talk about it, I know that for sure because I already do so. I write short stories, poems and novels (very very slowly), also essays and articles (none ever published anywhere but I write them). I understand the world of literature more than I understand anything else in the world, it's my passion and my gift, my heart and soul, the contents of my personal world almost exclusively.
So it's really very hard to be told that all of that love, passion and hard graft doesn't make me good enough for a seasonal position at Waterstones. The people who got interviews must have been academics with qualifications in creative writing and literature (I nearly did a creative writing course at A levels but I didn't get my GCSE's). Which would make Waterstones rather snobby, I may be self taught for the most part but I bet I would still fit into a room full of academics with classical qualifications in these things, and I'd still be making good points that would make them think and have discussions.
I mean how on earth am I supposed to get a job in a bookshop if in this day and age you need a university degree in English literature or creative writing or classics and years of experience working in shops, just to get an interview for a 3 month long seasonal position?
Makes it all seem rather pointless actually.

Character Details
There are many commanders of the Xianzhou Luofu Cloud Knights, but there is only one Zhenyan. Arguably peerless with a precise blade and a talent for strategy, she is responsible for a special unit of the Knights and has lead many successful missions into mara-struck territory. It isn't known what species Zhenyan is, as her name can be found dating back nearly a thousand years as a Knight herself -- many simply believe her to be a previous child prodigy shrouded in mystery. It isn't as if anyone can disprove it, and she keeps her past close to her chest.
Character Story Part I
(unlocked at Character Level 20)
Entry #4760. Date: ???
Today has been a busy day for the Cloud Knights. Zhenyan was requested to attend the annual academy graduation alongside some of the other commanders, and met many different families and their new Knights. It's loud, bright, there's an excitement in the air that is almost foreign to her. They are young, fresh-faced, just under or over a hundred years old at this point. Still not quite adults, but old enough to act as guards to various places on the Luofu and beyond. Each one is talented, some beyond their years as they are recognized as such. Sorting will be later, into different units.
Their faces still retain some of that childhood fat. Their smiles are kind. Eyes are still sparkling. If she checked, she thinks she would find them still wet behind their ears. They look up to Zhenyan, they thank her. Some look forward to training more under her. She is honest, tells them that they likely will never end up under her direct unit. Not for lack of trying, but because her unit is handpicked, and none of them have met her qualifications. Xiayue reminds her to be kind, encouraging in a whisper just next to her. A nudge to her ribs. After all, today is a day of celebration, and there's little reason to accidentally break their spirits.
What she would do without Xiayue to guide her interactions sometimes, she is unsure.
Though Zhenyan hates to lie, she does fix her face, and encourage the new graduates to work their hardest. To strive for the stars. One day, they may find her as their master again, and she will be pleased to work with them.
When the pair of them leave the ceremony, Xiayue asks if she truly wishes to add to their unit. The squadron that feels more like family, these days.
Zhenyan is unfamiliar with the feeling.
She admits she doesn't know.
Character Story Part II
(unlocked at Character Level 40)
Entry #4101. Date: ???
A long meeting. It drags by, every half an hour is another half an hour that she could be training, honing her mind. Doing anything but being here. Her hands are in her lap, still. Warm, as she flexes her digits and carefully fixes her posture. Zhenyan sits to the left of another commander, a Foxian with their hair tied up high, their name a fleeting memory. She sits to the right of another Foxian, their hair cropped short. It isn't as if she can remember their's either. A terrible habit.
They keep their distance from her, chairs pulled one direction or another. Though they wear the same uniform, fly the same colors, fight for the same ship, Zhenyan is not offended. It isn't unusual for people to be wary of her. She may be the same rank as them, older than them by quite a few centuries even, but she knows her place. Were it not for the previous General, she wouldn't be sitting here, and knows far better than to make a fuss about seating arrangements. At least the current General seems equally tired of this meeting that could have been a correspondence, from where he sits at the head of the long table, with one of the generals from the Alchemy Commission quite enthused to report on their plans from the last few months.
When she is spoken to after the meeting, it is by the kind Commander from the Divination Commission. Another native, like herself. She is impressed with her most recent excursion, even if her hands shake in front of her. Zhenyan affords her the same aloof conversation, talking more tactics than the small talk this commander attempts -- it's difficult to understand why people enjoy this sort of topic. Hard to engage with, harder to understand why they're asking. Eventually their words peter off into nothing, and they return to work.
So she sits, time ticking by. After all, that is all it does.
And at least she spends it free.
Character Story Part III
(unlocked at Character Level 60)
Entry #3629. Date: ???
Zhenyan walks the path towards the Ten-Lords Commission.
She is hand in hand with one of her soldiers. They are young. No, they are simply younger than her. It isn't a difficult achievement, but she feels they still had so much time ahead of them. Almost four hundred years with the Cloud Knights, and now they are listless. Grey hair throughout their head, a tired gait in their bones. Where they once went toe to toe with her, it feels more like she drags them about now.
They ask questions about their lessons. About their form. About the weapon that had broken while they were in the field nearly a hundred years prior. Whether that one lost little Foxian girl would be okay, from nearly four hundred years ago. Sometimes they stop, crouching down to clutch their head. The pain of being unable to stop the corruption of their own body and mind. The long-lived natives of the Xianzhou have long since lost the blessing of Yaoshi since beginning to follow Lan, and their immortality comes with consequences.
Zhenyan looks at her own hands. Callused, scarred. They've seen a world beyond this person's years. But untouched otherwise after a millennia. She hasn't aged.
Perhaps then, it was never truly a blessing at all.
Character Story Part IV
(unlocked at Character Level 80)
Entry #112. Date: ???
Sunlight still feels so new. Her wrists are light, lighter than they have been in centuries.
Provided with her own living quarters, still guarded by soldiers. But she has a bed now. Has clothes now. Fabric, that is soft beneath scarred hands. A window, barred, but still allows her to see the sun and the moon now. A bookshelf. A desk. Will be donned with armor properly when the next battle arrives to their doorstep.
They allowed her to keep the journal. The scarred journal that she has been writing in since the commander allowed her to begin writing in it. Or, moreso requested her to. To remember things. To quit forgetting them. It's meant to make her useful to the Alliance of ships. If she forgot how to wield a sword, how to tear through the enemy faction with grace and precision, then there was no point. If she can't remember things about the Abundance, can't remember anything about enemy formations, she couldn't be of service.
And if she wasn't of service, she was worthy of death.
They've cleaned her, bathed her. Dressed her in something simple. It almost doesn't look like her, when she looks in the mirror. Dark hair combed and brushed, washed, clean. Pulled away from her face in a low braid. It's ... jarring. Her scars though -- they still faintly glow gold.
The door slides open without warning, and every muscle in her body tenses. Fight or flight, and she grasps for nothing. Without the journal, she still remembers where her hilts should be, the sound of her blades leaving their sheathes. Yet, they aren't there, and she's left weaponless when it reveals a Knight. A Cloud Knight.
A past her would kill them where they stand.
A new her, instead stands down, glaring at them.
"It's time. The Cloud Knights have a new mission for you," Their voice is hard, tough, refuses to break in her presence. Stressed, even though she looks terribly pathetic right now. They step into the room, another Knight behind them, clasping another small book in their hands. Identical to the one she writes in now, "From now on, you will be known as Zhenyan, and you will be in service to the Xianzhou Luofu Cloud Knights. We will see if your pledge was honest, but never forget that we will cut you down in the instant you break that pledge. Do you understand?"
Zhenyan. They've named her, in the absence of her knowing her own name. It was gone to time, now. She doesn't truly miss the loss of it.
They recoil ever so slightly when she reaches for the journal.
"As you request, General."

Art Course and Artist Research
All art courses are different, and various opportunities and knowledge are available. However, in this blog post, I’ll discuss the courses I am interested in. Most of these courses will be at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Gray's School Of Art provides a student-centred curriculum in fine art and design to empower the next generation of creative graduates. The curriculum encourages collaboration, exhibitions, international field study trips, and entrepreneurial skills. Graduates often set up businesses or pursue further studies, fostering a supportive environment for innovative thinkers to express their uniqueness and make positive changes.
Course 1 - Foundation in Art and Design (BA (Hons))
The foundation curriculum offers a comprehensive first-year experience that explores subject areas through creative activities and opportunities. It encourages exploration, collaboration, and experimentation with ideas. The curriculum applies newfound knowledge to real-world situations, developing a deeper understanding of creativity, critical thinking, and sustainability. It helps students identify their motivations and interests, providing guidance on the most appropriate creative direction and subject areas for the second year.
This full-time, studio-based year will develop your creative and critical practice and challenge your understanding of the Art and design disciplines. These experiences will expand on your contextual and practical knowledge, introduce you to the Creative Industries, and inform your course options for Year 2.
This course offers a wide range of experience and specialisms, providing numerous employment opportunities. Through the "Creative Futures" module, students can identify and exploit their niche within the Creative and cultural industries while focusing on the relevant creative landscape after the first year.
The entry requirements for the Foundation course include one of the following: an SQA Higher, BCC in Art & Design, a GCE A Level in CC in Art & Design, a H3H3H4 Irish Leaving Certificate Higher in Art, and an IB Diploma in 24. All applicants with the required qualifications will be invited to attend a portfolio review/interview and participate in a selection process. Successful applicants will be offered a place after viewing their digital portfolios. If more information is needed, an interview will be scheduled. Applicants will also be invited to an Applicants Event to meet staff and students, experience the teaching environment, and ask questions. International students must meet direct entry requirements to gain additional points through Robert Gordon University's International College. English language requirements include an IELTS of 6.0 with no lower than 5.5 component.
Course 2 - Fine Art - Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Moving Image (BA (Hons))
The Fine Art course prepares students for their future careers as artists by enhancing their critical aptitude, creative skills, and professional understanding. The curriculum covers various disciplines like drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, and moving images, utilising both analogue and digital methodologies. The course includes studio-based projects, public exhibitions, work experience, and international study options, culminating in an annual Degree Show.
In Year 2, students expand their understanding of theoretical principles through creative interaction and learning from tutors, technical experts, peers, and themselves. They develop critical writing and professional skills, deepening their awareness of the Creative Industries. In Year 3, students develop creative play, risk-taking, and critical thinking by exploring their chosen themes and workshop interests. They gain personal insight into professional ambitions through work experiences, placements, or international study. In Year 4, students have an extended period of supported independence to produce a fully realised body of work, answering critical questions and showcasing their talents.
Gray's School of Art’s curriculum allows students to customise their learning experience through optional study pathways. These include an intensive studio-based study, which focuses on developing a deeper understanding of their studio practice, and a combined work experience and studio pathway, which broadens students' awareness of the professional working environment. Students can also undertake a semester-long international study with partner institutions across Europe, Canada, and the US.
The entry requirements for Year 2 students include relevant GCE A Levels, HNC/HND or Diploma in Foundation Studies, GCE A Level BCC, or IB Diploma 27. Advanced entry applicants with the appropriate qualifications will be invited to an advanced portfolio review/interview and participate in a selection process. Widening access applicants have minimum SQA Higher CCC entry requirements, including Art / Design and English. Applicants who may not hold standard qualifications are encouraged to apply if they can provide other relevant creative work, qualifications, and life experiences. A portfolio review/interview is still required for this candidate category. Successful applicants should submit a digital portfolio through a Flickr account, and if more information is needed, an interview will be invited.
Course 3 - Art Therapy - Provided by Alison - Provider website
Art therapy is a psychotherapy method that uses art as a form of communication between therapist and patient to treat various mental health conditions. This course explores the concepts and practices of art therapy, providing skills to work confidently with clients of all artistic abilities in multiple settings. It covers the history, principles, key figures in its evolution, and the critical types of art therapy, including individual and group therapy. The course also explores the value of art therapy in personal and professional lives. Creativity is a powerful tool for improving mental health and well-being; art therapy offers a way to tap into this side. The course discusses creative therapy, mindfulness practices, and techniques for using art therapy with clients. It also focuses on drawing and its application in treating children with physical and mental impairments. The course also covers common mental illnesses art therapists encounter, recording techniques, supervision, boundaries, and therapeutic limitations. Kara walker
Walker attended the Atlanta College of Art, where she focused on race-specific issues and a double standard often levelled at minority art students. She later attended the Rhode Island School of Design, where her work expanded to include sexual and racial themes based on portrayals of African Americans in art, literature, and historical narratives. An expert researcher, Walker began to draw on diverse sources, from portraits to pornographic novels, that have continued to shape her work. Other artists who addressed racial stereotypes were also important role models for the emerging artist. While in graduate school, Walker alighted on an old form that would become the basis for her most vital early work: cut paper silhouettes, widespread in Victorian middle-class portraiture and illustration. These silhouettes possessed a streamlined elegance that simplified the frenzy she was working on, making them the basis for her strongest early work.

Obviously Kara Walker is an African-American artist, the process and opportunities are slightly different than in the UK where we have apprenticeships, college, university and foundation courses.
Anish Kapoor
Kapoor, a young artist, initially enjoyed finishing his mother's paintings but had no intention of becoming an artist. At 17, he and his brother travelled to Israel to live and work at a kibbutz, embracing communal living and utopian ideas. Initially, he planned to study engineering but realised he wasn't good at mathematics. After hitchhiking across Europe, he settled in London to attend Hornsey College of Art in 1973. His mentor, British-Romanian sculptor Paul Neagu, encouraged him to pursue Performance art, which influenced his sculpture approach.
Kapoor, a postgraduate artist, quit Chelsea School of Art after a year and returned to India. He realised his art was about ritual and doing, leading to a three-year period of creativity and the creation of his first major works, ritualistic pigment sculptures. Initially mistaken for a female artist, Kapoor gained recognition within the international art community despite the confusion surrounding his material.
Nicholas Logsdail, owner of Lisson Gallery in London, invited Kapoor to join the New British Sculptors group in the early 1980s. Kapoor, known for his use of traditional earthy materials and spiritual expression, represented Britain at the 1990 Venice Biennale and won the Turner Prize in 1991. The group included Julian Opie, Antony Gormley, Richard Deacon, Tony Cragg, and Rachel Whiteread, providing a network for Kapoor to exhibit and share ideas.
Kapoor is a good example of studying abroad, and the opportunities are different but only for some.
Judith Tucker
Judith Tucker is an artist and academic who explores the intersection of social history, personal memory, and geography through drawing, painting, and writing. She has been a finalist in the Jackson’s Painting Prize, the Scenes of Everyday Life category prize, and shortlisted for the Westmorland Landscape Prize and New Light Prize. She has exhibited in various venues, including Arthouse1 and Collyer Bristow London, as well as in China. She also serves as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Design at the University of Leeds. However, Tucker died on 13 November 2023 in a tragic car accident, but her memory and work will live on in her students and artwork.

Dominate the Battlefield: Intel Battlemage GPUs Revealed

Intel Arc GPU
After releasing its first-generation Arc Alchemist GPUs in 2022, Intel now seems to be on a two-year cadence, as seen by the appearance of the Battlemage in a shipping manifest. This suggests that Battlemage GPUs are being supplied to Intel’s partners for testing, as it’s the first time they’ve seen any proof of them existing in the real world. Intel is probably getting ready for a launch later this year given the timing of this.
Two Battlemage GPUs are being shipped by Intel to its partners, per a recently discovered shipment manifest that was published on X. The GPUs’ designations, G10 and G21, suggest Intel is taking a similar approach as Alchemist, offering one SKU that is more or less high-end for “mainstream” gamers and one that is less expensive.
Intel Arc Graphics Cards
As you may remember, Intel had previously announced plans to launch four GPUs in the Alchemist family:
Intel Arc A380
The A380, A580, A750, and A770. However, only the latter two were officially announced. They anticipate that the A750 and A770, which Intel most likely delivers at launch for midrange gamers, will be replaced by the G10.
They’ve never heard of cards being “in the wild,” but two Battlemage GPUs have shown up in the Si Soft benchmark database before. The fact that both of those cards have 12GB of VRAM stood out as particularly noteworthy. This suggests that Intel increased their base-level allowance from 8GB, which is a wise decision in 2024. As stated by Intel’s CEO earlier this year, Battlemage was “in the labs” in January.
Intel Arc A770
A previously released roadmap from Intel indicates that the G10 is a 150W component and the G21 is 225W. It is anticipated that Intel will reveal notable improvements in Battlemage’s AI capabilities, greater upscaling performance, and ray tracing performance. As 225W GPUs were the previous A750 and A770, it seems Battlemage will follow the script when it comes to its efficiency goals. The business has previously declared that it wishes to aim for this “sweet spot” in terms of power consumption, wherein one PCIe power cable is needed rather than two (or three).
While the industry as a whole is anxious to see how competitive Intel will be with its second bite at the apple, gamers aren’t exactly waiting impatiently for Intel to introduce its GPUs like they do with Nvidia or AMD’s next-gen. Intel Battlemage GPUs

The Battlemage-G10 and Battlemage-G21 are being shipped for research and development, as stated in the shipping manifest (which makes sense considering these devices’ current status). The G21 GPU is currently in the pre-qualification (pre-QS) stage of semiconductor development; the G10’s current status is unknown.
Pre-qualification silicon is used to assess a chip’s performance, reliability, and functionality. Pre-QS silicon is typically not suitable for mass production. However, if the silicon device is functional and meets the necessary performance, power, and yield requirements, mass production of the device could be feasible. For example, AMD’s Navi 31 GPU, if it meets the developer’s objectives, is mass-produced in its A0 silicon phase.
They rarely get to cover Intel’s developments with its next-generation graphics cards, but they frequently cover Nvidia’s, as they did recently with the GeForce RTX 50-series graphics processors, which should appear on their list of the best graphics cards based on industry leaks.
This generation, Nvidia seems to be leading the laptop discrete GPU market, but Battlemage, with Intel’s ties to OEMs and PC manufacturers, might give the green team some serious competition in the next round. According to the cargo manifest, there will be intense competition among AMD’s RDNA 4, Intel’s Battlemage, and Nvidia’s Blackwell in the forthcoming desktop discrete GPU market.

"That job is beneath me"
I don't think doing any job that needs doing is beneath me. Because I learned from tech industry startups that, as the boss, as the owner, you have to wear multiple hats for positions you won't be able to fill. Either because nobody wants to waste time with a job that's likely to go bankrupt in a week, or because you can't afford to fill them.
That's my mindset, and the military reinforced that idea. Because there wasn't anybody else to do the job if we didn't do it.
When I talk about a job being beneath me, I mean that I'm over qualified to work under most, if not all business owners. Especially if it's a chain. Either I would have to omit a lot of info on my resumè, because they won't believe somebody of my caliber would walk through their front door. Or, they just won't be able to match my level of skill in their own job, or work ethic in a position they put me in.
Basically, I'll end up stepping on the boss's toes, the boss's boss's toes and regional 's toes. And they will not appreciate it. Their response will be negative because I will be "acting out of line" making it tougher to do their job, and a whole host of things that are not conducive to a healthy work environment.
"That Job is Beneath me" doesn't mean it's a job I won't do, it's that I would do it, and I'd still get hate for it. It's not that I don't trust management, or restaurant owners, or anything of the like. It's that I know too much about operations, that they will not trust me. Or they will over rely on me.
I would not be happy working for them, and they would not be happy working with me.
That's why I set out to start my own business in the first place, because I have that ethic. Those core values. And the reason why it fell through was because of the reasoning I've already described, just in a different facet of life.
People always think they know more than you about something. They think I'm the one causing problems when I talk facts, statistics, and data analysis.
Because they're used to working with different kinds of people. But I'm the zebra when they say "think horses not zebras". And though I don't hide it, they straight up can't believe it.
"That Job is Beneath me" means I've worked for people more qualified than the manager I'll be working for. It means I'm more qualified than that manager I'd be working for. And doing a job for less than my qualifications means I'll be sitting around bored, complaining, and generally setting a bad example for entry-level workers, that'd be better off if I don't set that bad example.
It means you can't pay me what I'm actually worth to work the position that you need filled.
Trust me, I've been motivated to work jobs that I would enjoy doing just for enjoyment's sake. Hell, I even demonstrated it, live on twitch. But I didn't get paid anything.
I would gladly do lots of things for free, as long as I'm being paid what I'm worth. But I'm not, you can't, and so I won't.
Till then, enjoy whatever I create when inspiration strikes me.
I will not be put in a position where I'll end up doing things way above my pay grade anyways. I did that, I got shit on for it, I won't do it again.
