also more codelyokoposting but I really really dig XANA as a villain. It's not a person with a complex background that led them down the path of evil, it's not a morally grey character you sympathize with but condemn. It's a powerful AI capable of controlling almost anything in the real world. It doesn't have a face or a body, we only know it for its symbol and for the monsters it controls in the virtual world. It's willing not just to kill people through various methods (poisoning, drowning, car crash, fucking space lasers too?) but also Earth as a whole (it tried to blow up a NUCLEAR PLANT and crash two trains with toxic chemicals in them). And we don't even know why it does this, at least not for now. It may not even have a particular reason, just some sort of virus or malware in the form of an AI that seeks nothing but destruction without any goals in mind. This "pure evil" characteristic doesn't come off as childish, like in some children cartoons, it's just kind of scary to think that such an incomprehensible and destructive force exists, almost feels like a natural disaster

Sharp, glowing white eyes, bright enough to probably start burning holes in the monitors. Jeremie nearly backed his way into the central room display right behind him, his heart pounding in his chest as this ominous figure stared directly into his soul.

And, through speakers that had only been playing static up until now, came a calm, yet distorted voice.'

I got inspired by the recent flux of interest and fanart for my AU, so I decided to draw my own version of this scene from TALW: Birth Of The Team. All of this was really painful to do, but I love how it came out. This scene was definitely my favorite to write out of the entire prologue and it's easy to see why. It's SO good at being horror!

Also, Bonus: the background of the Jeremie shot. This is meant to be a shot of the TALW version of the main computer lab. (It had to be darkened in the final drawing for the sake of accuracy and to add to the horror vibes, so it's MUCH lighter here. The lighting in the background is essentially how the lab would look under studio floodlighting. The actual lab is greenier and a bit darker in it's lighting.)

Actually Scary Monsters

Something I appreciate about Code Lyoko is that the monsters never become a joke to the characters.

Too often shows-especially ones with power creeping-will turn initial/early enemies into jokes or cannon fodder. There's a gimmick that makes them obsolete after a few episodes, next season there might be a a hundred of them in the back for spectacle but none of the characters care.

Code Lyoko never forgets the threat any of the monsters pose. The characters get better at dealing with them, especially the ones they have more experience with, but the danger a kankerlot poses is equal to that of a tank in the right setting.

Even when new monsters are introduced its not to overshadow the old ones, but as a sign of X.A.N.A. gaining strength or adapting to a new environment.

It also makes it seem like X.A.N.A. has a proper military and isn't just tossing minions at the heroes. Tanks are tanks, mantas/hornets are air support, kankerlots are foot soldiers, krabs are riot troopers, tarantulas are heavy artillery, etc.

Big City Greens Headcanons!

Pretty much the whole green family are autistic.

Gramma has a private criminal record, especially in other countries.

Tilly owns a butterfly book that Bill got for and often talks about butterfly fun facts.

Bill sometimes shows a photo of his family to people and talks about how he loves them.

Remy introduced anime to Cricket and Tilly, Cricket's favorite is Pokémon, Tilly's favorite is Little Witch Academia while Remy and Vasquez loves DragonBall and Code Lyoko.

Bill is Bisexual, he's pretty shy about opening up his bisexuality, but his family supports him, especially Cricket and Gramma.

Gloria still keeps the homemade Eiffel tower that Cricket made.

Bill and Remy love listening to ASMR.

Nancy is also Bi, Gloria is Pan while Gramma is a ally.

Chip's favorite movie is American Psycho.

Andromeda loves the X-files.

After the events of Quiet Please, The greens still practice ASL.

Fun Fact: I clocked that Hex was doing a Code Lyoko piece like, several days ago.

I was busy looking through Hex's shitposting blog when I noticed THIS particular bit of green in a WIP post:

Now, normally, this green rectangle would not even register a blip on most people's radars. However, as I am an autistic monkey who can spot even the tiniest of details in five seconds flat, I immediately clocked this as the green used in the CL Lab.

I confronted Hex about it and got several 'I don't know what you're talking about :)'s which I took as a sign that I was fucking right. As well as SEVERAL TEASINGS!

Hence why this bit exists in the doodle sheet from a few days ago

My final contribution to Repostober 2024 :) Loose "redraw" of this sketch that I posted last year. Scan and words below the break.

I know the phrase "rewired my brain" gets thrown around a lot in fandom but I honest-to-God think Ghost Channel really did it. If it's not THE formative thing in my taste for horror, it imprinted pretty damn hard on my little babby brain. To this day, the memory of watching it for the first time stands out as my earliest experience where I've needed to pick my jaw off the floor and then marinate for a bit.

For those not in the know, Ghost Channel is an episode late into season one of Code: Lyoko. It is freely available to watch online, but if you're even a little interested in watching it, I highly recommend watching it in sequence, despite the episodic nature of S1.

I'm sure I've mentioned it, but before I realized the importance of archiving my art I threw away virtually everything I had relating to CL >___< Later, I thought it might be fun to redraw some pillars from my childhood fandoms and this sketch happened. I've posted a few things for Repostober so far that were products of this same effort.

Reinterpreting this in 2024 was a challenge. My taste in horror hasn't changed much over the years, but the way I enjoy it definitely has. The 2009 scan reads as an in-your-face tribute to the episode (to me, at least), but these days I'm a much, MUCH bigger fan of subtlety and the power of implication. Redrawing it 1:1 bugged me a little since I didn't feel it'd meet my current standards or do the episode justice. I'm a firm believer in "less is more" so I spent a loootttt of time grappling with a good 'redraw' that 2024 me would accept while still passing as... well... a redraw xD I suppose it is still conceptually the same.

Jeremie is easily my favorite in the CL gang which definitely has nothing to do with the fact that I seem to have a proven history of latching onto the prodigal child with glasses and I've always found it crazy poetic that one of the only (or maybe the only?) big bad's true manifestations in the show is in his image. Something something thematic parallels, you love to see it >:) CL already has this habit of depicting shit that I would normally attribute to the modus operandi of a supernatural, demonic force so of COURSE I was gonna get in on this LMAO

Unfortunately, unless I find a hidden stash of old CL fanart somewhere... or enough time passes for me to draw this again... this is probably my last CL art for a while </3

On a more technical note for as much time as I gave myself for this I really popped off, especially on the background o___o Code Lyoko BG art goes super hard in general though, I don't think I would have settled for anything less. Had tons of fun with the VHS effects, learned lots of new little tricks to distort images for future projects.

Realized that I haven't posted my CL OC here at all. Cuz fuck it, cringe culture is dead and I like her

This is Alexandrie Fontaine, or, as she likes to be called, Alex.

Since tumblr basically borked the image quality, here's what it says about her character, with some additions here and there:

She's the typist at Kadic News, in that she's the person behind how it looks and how its formatted via using a 2000s era version of photoshop (which she happens to be quite adept at). She's apart of Yumi's grade and class and is legitimately one of the smartest kids in her class.

However, she's an anxiety-ridden stress nugget who continually forgets to sleep and overworks herself. Part of her character design is literally what I call 'Perpetual Eyebags of Insomnia'.

She's a sarcastic snarker and is typically seen as a chill person to be around (She rarely raises her voice and her default mood is tired). However, she is also known to be quite blunt with how she talks to people. These stem from her being an introvert, who'd rather just mind her own business than get herself involved in other people's drama (Ironic since she works for the school newspaper).

Her main likes are cola (she's addicted since it acts as a lite coffee for her), a band called Geiger Husks (a techno/nu-metal/punk band with a post-apocalyptic theme. Their logo is a red gas mask, which is on the back of her jacket), Sundays (because there are no classes on Sundays at Kadic), horror movies, and pizza.

She dislikes soup, when people are being idiots, being forced to talk to people, and The Subdigitals (she finds them too poppy and her peers constantly play their music to the point that she's grown to hate them).

And of course, since she works at Kadic news, she works with Milly and Tamiya. Alex publicly states that she has a professional relationship with the kids and nothing more, but she secretly likes the kids and appreciates their company.

However, she hates pre-XANAifcation William and Sissi. William is because he kept trying to flirt with Alex and ask her out on dates, even though she is not interested in the slightest. And Sissi because the girl has a tendency to bully Milly and Tamiya which can easily invoke Alex's wrath more often than not.

I very much intended her to essentially be an additional side character. Another face at Kadic that sometimes gets involved in the plot and sometimes not. She's not a member of the Lyoko Warriors (though that can obviously change) and was made to be a chill big sister character for Milly and Tamiya.

In a purely hypothetical or headcanon sense

Most logical picks would be Code Lyoko or Totally Spies tbh, especially Code Lyoko since they have a similar age range and stakes
