(Avatar by chibikirbylover. Cropped for convenience.) Hi! Writer of Worlds AKA WoW. 29 year old video game and Internet addict with autism who can't stop eating pizza. Also a lazy butt who procrastinates on her writing. Hope you enjoy your stay! Ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/wowfic

"that doesn't sound sincere- it sounds rehearsed" is one of the most devastating and fucked-up statements you can make to anyone in the neurodivergent/ADHD/Autistic/Schizophrenic/Disordered Personality sphere. yeah bitch it's rehearsed. because i wanted to get it right when i said it

regarding blindness: i have two characters who have scars over one of their eyes. one due to poison and the other due to a burn. how severe would their blindness in those eyes be? i know their depth perception would be bad, but i'm not sure how bad
Depends heavily on the actual damage. I’ve been blind in one eye since birth (hence the persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous tag on that post)  so my experiences aren’t going to always overlap with someone who was blinded later in life due to injury or slower progression. I can talk about their experience to a certain degree, but the effects of injury I don’t know off the top of my head.
If @anomaliewrites cares to be tagged in for medical stuff, she’s a good person to ask about poison vs burning and the range of injury involved, unless of course you’re looking for specific experience regarding being blind in one eye.
On the off chance you are, here it is: Myth talking about her experiences with Depth Perception, which she actually… doesn’t have.
By which I mean, being totally blind in one eye (barring incredibly bright lights, which do not illuminate the area for me but are Noticeable, for lack of a better term), I have no depth perception. I like my furniture unmoved, or at least moved with my participation so I know where it is. I like my stairs unpatterned, because otherwise they look like a fucking slide and I can’t tell where the edge of the step is. I tend to bang into doorways, especially on my blind side, but not full on: doorway banging is sort of a glancing bounce, because I didn’t realize it was that close. This doesn’t happen nearly so often in familiar spaces. I have real trouble visualizing (hah) distance by measurements, so when somebody says ‘twelve inches’ it helps me not at all. Please relate length or distance to an object I have held in my hands, thank you. Catching things is rough. Projectile weaponry is rough. Put me on a fencing strip and we’re golden because I know how many steps it takes to hit all the marks and can figure out distances that way, but without a marked strip… okay look one time I broke a foil on someone (not notable except for the fact that it was because I misjudged distance and lunged in and anyway there were many pieces of foil scattered around the room and it was good for everyone that we were wearing protective gear)(it was also an old foil and it was probably good for my opponent that it  broke the way it did).
On the flip side, when I was learning how to ride there came a time they began putting emphasis on how far away from the jump you were and began making you count your horse’s steps. I felt no need to inform my coach that I already counted the steps as a matter of course and took the congratulations due to me as the quickest to master the skill.
Anyway, everybody has different ways of compensating for different things they can’t do or can’t do as well as they’d like. I count steps and pace a lot to learn layouts. Somebody else might be better at using shadows or something. IDK. It’s one blind gal’s experience.

It takes real strength to say, “I don’t like this part of myself, and I want to work on it.”
We all have traits shaped by trauma, by survival, by what we were modelled growing up. But when those traits start to harm us, or harm the people we care about, it’s our responsibility to notice and adjust.
“I shut down every time someone’s upset”
“I guilt-trip when I feel abandoned”
“I lash out before I explain how I feel”
These examples aren’t how it has to be. They’re starting points for change. You aren’t doomed or irredeemable.
Saying “That’s just the way I am” might feel protective in the moment but over time, it can become a wall between us and the relationships we want to build.
Healing means learning to say:
”This is how I’ve been but it’s not how I have to stay.”
“I’m allowed to outgrow my old coping mechanisms.”
“I want to become safer for myself and for others.”
Change doesn’t make you less you. It makes you a version of you that can breathe easier, love deeper, and communicate more clearly. It can improve your quality of life and make your relationships more fulfilling.

happy birthday to drusus! to celebrate, could you tell us one random fun fact about him? :] it’s cool to learn about random stuff about people’s ocs!!
Sure thing! :D
Drusus might be autistic! A few reasons: he loves martial arts and loves learning how to do them! Food wise, he prefers eating honeycrisp apples, but only if they're cut and they're covered with honey. His favorite food is veggie stew and prefers it with paprika and pepper!
He also ALWAYS wears his headband wherever he goes since he got it. If he's not wearing it, he gets nervous. If he can't find it? Panic attack. It's his comfort item!
