Hi!! I'm finally writing another Soriku fic and this is for everyone and @whyarewecalledtheshipname I hope you enjoy this sleeping beauty sort of fic! A lot of effort went into the ending, and it's probably not too good, but I hope you like it! I love your blog, so I thought you would like this so yeah! Enjoy!
Author notes are at the end and kinda long but yeah. And I'd like feedback since I like getting it to improve my writing or know what you thought about it at least!

"Momma, will you read this one?" Sora asks.
He and Riku were both laying in their own pillow fort. They were laying on their stomachs next to each other, both in their pajamas, and looking towards Sora's mother. She was laying outside the entrance to their pillow fort with a smile. She was on her stomach, propped up by her forearms, and had a book between them.
"Do you know if Riku likes it? Will he even like to hear it again." She tilts her head and looks over at Riku.
Riku's eyes widen slightly before he nods with a small smile. "Yeah, I like Sleeping Beauty. It's a nice story," he says shyly.
Sora's mother sighs fondly. "Alright, then I'll read it." She picks up the book and shows the front to the boys. "Well, I guess we're reading Sleeping Beauty again!" She opens the book and begins to read. "In a far away land long ago lived a King and his fair Queen. Many years had they longed for a child and finally their wish was granted." She turns the book around to show the boys the picture.
"It's so beautiful," Sora whispers. No matter how many times he sees the pictures or reads the story, he finds it amazing each time.
She smiles and turns the book back to her and flips the page. "A daughter was born. They called her Aurora. Yes they named her after the dawn for she filled their lives with sunshine."
"So, Aurora means dawn? Do other names have meaning?" Riku asks with curiosity.
Sora's mother looks up at him and smiles. "Why yes it does. Isn't it beautiful? And some names do have meaning, but that meaning doesn't make you." She turns the book around so they could see the story being told in pictures.
"They look so happy!" Sora says with a big smile.
"Of course they would be. They just had their first kid!" Riku says with excitement. He wouldn't admit it, but he loves this story.
"Then, a great holiday was proclaimed throughout the kingdom so that all of high or low estate might pay homage to the infant princess. And our story begins on that most joyful day." She turns the book around for the boys to see again.
"That's a lot of people," Sora says with awe.
Sora's mother turns the book back to her and continues to read. "All sorts of people attended, including another king and his son, Prince Phillip. Celebrating Aurora's birth wasn't the only thing being done that day, it was also announced that Phillip was betrothed to the princess."
"He was going to get married to her, right?" Sora asks.
"Yes, he was. It was a common thing for many kingdoms to do."
"It's still weird," Riku says quietly. He's young and doesn't understand love, but he still finds it weird how people were forced to marry someone and didn't have a say in it.
She smiles and continues. "After the prince set eyes on his future bride, horns once again rang throughout the room as three fairies floated down to the king and queen. They, too, wanted to celebrate the princess's birth. They all floated over to her in a rush, crowding each other as they looked down at her crib. However, they weren't there just to see her, they were there to bless her. The first fairy, Flora, gave her the gift of beauty. The second fairy, Fauna, gave her the gift of song. And just as the third fairy, Merryweather, was about to give her gift, thunder rumbled through the room, causing panic as a glowing figure began to appear. It was green, but it slowly formed into another fairy, but a dark fairy." She emphasized "dark" with a scary look.
Sora gasped softly. "Oh no!"
"The evil fairy, named Maleficent, appeared in the middle of the room with her cane and raven. She walked to the King and Queen with a smile as she mentioned every person in the room. She stroked her bird as she told them her woes about not being invited. Merryweather, being the blunt fairy she was, told her how she wasn't invited, which stirred the evil fairy up. She in return decided to give the princess her own gift."
Sora and Riku both had looks of excitement mixed with curiosity. They both knew what it was, yet found it enjoyable to hear again and again.
"The fairies did their best to protect Aurora, but they failed. The evil fairy cast a curse on dear Aurora. "Before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday, she shall prick her finger on a spindle of a spinning wheel and die," is what she told the whole room. The evil fairy laughed cruelly as she saw the panic around the room. The King ordered for the guards to apprehend her, but she disappeared before they could even touch her."
"But then someone comes and saves her!" Riku says.
"No saving is done yet, dears. However, they could help the poor princess. Flora saw the panic on the King's and Queen's face and reassured them that they could help her. Merryweather didn't give her gift yet and still had a chance to make things better. She went over to the crib and said, "Sweet princess, if through this wicked witches trick, a spindle should your finger prick, a ray of hope there still may be in this. The gift I give to thee, not in death but just in sleep, and from this slumber you shall wake when true loves kiss the spell shall break."
"But what if she doesn't find her true love?" Riku asks with a curious and concerned voice. It was a fake person, but he still feels worry.
"But she will! It's just how fate works!" Sora tells him with a smile. He grabs Riku's hand and squeezes it. "We all find each other through fate, so she would find her true love through fate as well!"
Riku looks over at Sora and smiles back at him.
The rest of the night is spent with Sora's mother telling them how the story went, but the most important part was the ending. When she was done reading and was getting ready to go to bed, Sora asks her an important question.
Sora yawns as he talks. "So, she would've been asleep forever if Phillip didn't make it?"
His mother ruffles his and Riku's hair. "Sadly, yes, she would have. But her prince's heart was stronger than Maleficent and he defeated her to save Aurora."
"Oh, then that's good," he says as he yawns once again. His mother kisses his cheek and leaves to go to bed.
He lays his cheek against the floor as he looks beside him. He sees Riku already asleep, still holding his hand. He smiles and squeezes it. "I'd fight a dragon for you, Riku," he whispers out. "Our hearts are already strong, aren't they," he says slowly. Only a few moments later, he falls into a blissful sleep.
.
.
Riku looked up at Sora's face through the clear glass of his sleeping pod. He could barely see him, but he could still see a smile on his face. It was small, but it was there.
This had been his third time checking up on Sora since he was put to sleep, and he always looked for a smile. It managed to put him at ease, but never erase the true pain he felt.
"I wonder what you're dreaming about. Is it good things?" He knew he wouldn't respond, but he still talked to him. "Are you thinking of the things I did?" He shouldn't have been thinking like that, but he still did. He was inexcusably rude to his best friend, someone he loves with all his heart, and someone who is precious.
He placed his hand against the pod. "I hope your dreams are good and that you can forgive me. Especially for the things I have to do." He knew what he had to do and it was things he didn't want to do, but he had to. He wouldn't be able to be without Sora, so he'd do whatever it took to save him...even if it means hurting someone else.
"I'm sorry."
He turned around and left the room, once again asking Namine to watch over him. He wished he could stay longer, but Sora wouldn't wake up unless he left, so he knew what he had to do. Even if he wished he didn't have to.
He never wanted to be away from Sora, even if his past actions didn't agree. This time felt painful, but when he had to watch Sora from afar? And look like Ansem at the same time? It was even more painful, but it was only the beginning.
.
Riku's legs felt like jelly as he continued to run. His dreams led him to an unknown world, and the only thing he knew was that it would lead him to Sora.
His beloved that had been missing for a whole year. It broke his heart to think about the time again, so he pushed it away as he continued to run and run and run. Every now and then he stopped so he could look around to make sure he didn't miss Sora, but he never saw him.
"I have to keep going," he said through panting breaths as he sat at a bench. He held his head in his hands as he thought. "Our hearts are connected together, but every time I think I'm getting closer, the connection goes away. It disappears all over again." He looks up as he finally realizes what he should do. "But if I just listen...maybe I can sense him better."
He quickly stood up, ignoring the pain his legs felt, and closed his eyes. He felt the connection to Sora, he could feel their hearts calling to each other, but he couldn't feel a direction. It should've annoyed him, but he stayed calm and cool. He only listened.
After a few moments, he felt a tug. A tug that's stronger than any other he's felt. He opened his eyes and looked at the road ahead of him. He felt the tug pulling him that way, so he goes. He ran, but not as fast as before since he didn't want to miss Sora. He looked around as he passed by buildings and shops. He kept going straight past many traffic lights.
However, once he got to another four way, he felt the tug go somewhere else. He felt it coming from a building. He runs over but then the tug comes from above. He backed up and looked up to see something on the roof.
He gasped and stared at the climbing he had to do. "I'm not as good as you are, Sora. But I'll do my best." He began to run up the side of the building, doing his best to not slip off.
He gets to the edge of the top and jumps so he can finally be on the roof, and what he saw makes him gasp with fear. He saw an array of spikes of ice surrounding each other, like a spell of blizzard gone wrong. He looked in the middle and his heart dropped.
Sora was frozen solid and laying in the middle. His eyes were closed and he looked like he was in peace, but Riku felt fear and terror.
He ran over to the spikes, which resembled a flower now that he was closer, and saw a little break through the array of spikes. He walked through the path and got on his knees beside Sora. As soon as he touched Sora, the spikes around him cracked and turned into silver flakes, disappearing into the wind. Sora's crystal form did the same thing as well. It made a cracking noise before falling off in flakes and going in the wind.
"Sora..." he said as he touched his cheek gently. It felt freezing and it made Riku feel even more upset.
He picked Sora up and held him bridal style and signaled to Fairy Godmother. He, within seconds, disappeared in a flash and reappeared in front of Yen Sid's tower. He was greeted by Mickey, Aqua, Terra, and Kairi. They all had a look of surprise mixed with relief, but when they saw Riku's face they were confused.
Riku walked towards them and kept his words brief. "I found him, but he's still not awake. He needs help."
Everyone nodded and all hurried to get Sora his own room. The room was at the top of the tower, far away enough from everyone else. They needed room to figure out what was wrong. They would tell everyone the news later.
Riku sat Sora down in the bed, Kairi started a fire in the fireplace to make the room warmer, and Terra got an extra blanket for him. They all stood in the room and waited for Fairy Godmother to appear. She was there within a matter of seconds and instantly looked at Sora.
She walked over to him and knelt down to be closer. She placed her hand against his chest and went silent for a moment before looking back at everyone. "His heart beat is very distant and his breathing is very slow. I can't tell what's wrong yet," she said with disappointment. She wanted to help him just like everyone else, but she needed time to do so.
Everyone felt disappointment and fear, but pushed it aside as they thought of what to do.
"So, should we leave him to rest? And see how he's doing in the morning?" Aqua suggested.
"But he shouldn't be alone, right?" Terra said with worry.
"Yes, he shouldn't be. I need time to research and see what's wrong, but he may get worse. I need someone to watch over him," Fairy Godmother said with firmness.
"I'll do it," Riku said immediately. He protected Sora ever since Sora saved him. He couldn't abandon him now. He knew Sora would never blame him for taking a break, but he couldn't. He couldn't bare the thought of having him here and not being able to see him in the morning if something went wrong. He trusted the others, but he had to do this.
"Riku, you haven't slept in so long. You need a break," Kairi said with worry. She stepped closer to him and grabbed his hand, gently.
He looked down at her and shook his head. "I just...can't leave him, alright? I need to make sure he's alright. Please," he asked the group.
"How about we do shifts?" Mickey suggested with a smile. He knew everyone cared about Sora, he did, too. However, he knew almost no one could care for Sora like Riku did. Mickey spent time with him in the Realm of Darkness and watched him find his strength with Sora. He understood the fear that Riku was feeling.
Fairy Godmother thought for a moment before she nodded with a smile. "I believe that's a good idea. How about we all go tell Yen Sid, just real quick, alright? Then you can come right back here and watch him," she said as she looked at Riku. She gave him a bright smile, doing her best to put him at ease.
Everyone turned around to leave, but Riku kept looking at Sora. He thought it was creepy, but he couldn't stop focusing on the way his breath was so shallow. He almost couldn't see it. However, he broke out of his trance when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned around and saw Aqua with a frown.
"You can take a minute. It's okay." She squeezed his shoulder before leaving the room and closing the door gently behind her.
He smiled slightly at her concern and understanding. It made him breath easier. Once she left and didn't hear any more footsteps, he turned around and walked over to Sora. He got knelt down on one knee and looked at him.
"You look like you're in peace, but are you really?" He asked, knowing he would get no reply. "We're going to do our best to save you, I promise. We will save you. I know we can. You've saved us plenty of times, it's our turn to save you." He moved his hand slowly to push aside his bangs.
He remembered doing this when he was a kid on the Destiny Islands. Sora would take a nap and let the wind mess with his hair. Whenever he let his hair grow out, his bangs would get in his face and cover his eyes. Riku would move them away, which always would wake Sora. He would look at him with a smile and thank him for moving his bangs. It would always embarrass Riku, but he'd continue to do it. He liked seeing those blue eyes look up at him, and now he'd love if they could.
He got up and looked out the window. The sun was rising and it was beautiful. He wished Sora was awake to see it since he loved to see the sunrise. He looked back down at Sora and smiled as he leaned in and kissed him right above his temple.
He pulled away and made sure the blanket was covering him, the fire was still lit, and began to leave. He walked to the door and had his hand on the doorknob, ready to open, but stopped when he heard a voice.
"Riku?" Sora said quietly with his voice sounding rough.
Riku turned around quickly and saw Sora rubbing his eyes. He looked around the room confused, but once they landed on him he smiled.
"Riku...you're here." He looked to his side to see the sunlight reaching the tower. "It looks so beautiful. I hadn't seen one like this in so long," he said quietly.
"Sora!" Riku shouted as he ran over to his side of the bed. He got on his knees and grabbed his hand. "You're awake!" He let his forehead rest against Sora's hand and he closed his eyes. "You're awake..." he said again.
Sora sat up and laughed. "You saved me," he said gently.
Riku looked up at him to see those blue eyes. They looked at him with such love and he felt like he couldn't breathe. He couldn't find the words to say, so he only acted. He wrapped his arms around Sora and buried his face in the crook of his neck. It took a moment, but Sora wrapped his arms around him too.
"I'm here, Riku. You don't need to fear anymore."
Riku pulled back enough to look at him, but didn't let go. He cupped his cheek with a shaky hand and smiled when Sora leaned into it. "How are you here? How are you awake?"
"You woke me up." He poked right above his heart. "I heard your heart calling out to me. Those spikes and the crystal was protecting me, but they broke when you came because I trust you. You," Sora paused for a moment and struggled to find the words. "You mean the world to me, so they fell away. And I fought my way to wake up, but I couldn't do it. But when you kissed me, it made me stronger," he said with a small blush.
"The kiss helped you?" Riku asked with confusion and slight disbelief.
Sora nodded. "Yeah. You helped me break through. I guess it's like Sleeping Beauty," he said with a giggle.
Riku smiled and gathered up his courage. "Then, can I kiss you again?" He blushed and felt like looking away, but he didn't. He held his ground and waited.
"It better be a proper one this time," Sora said with a laugh.
Riku laughed in return before he leaned closer and gently kissed him. It wasn't perfect, but it didn't matter. It was them. It was their kiss. When they pulled away, they didn't hesitate. They went back in for another kiss, and another, and another, until they had to stop to catch their breath.
They pulled slightly away and laid their foreheads against the others. It was peaceful and everything was beautiful. The sun was shining, Sora was awake, and they both finally confessed.
Well, halfway, but they did it.
"When are the others coming?" Sora asked.
"Oh!" Riku said as he remembered the others. "They should be telling Yen Sid about everything. I was meant to join them! Do you want to go with me or do you want me to stay?"
"Stay. Stay with me, please," Sora said with vulnerability. "I don't want to be alone, and I'm still a little cold." Sora slid over and motioned for Riku to join him.
He smiled and joined him on the bed. He laid on his side and wrapped his arms around Sora when he scooted closer and buried his face in the crook of his neck.
"I love you, Riku."
Riku's heart pounded with joy and he smiled as he rested his chin on top of Sora's head. "I love you, too, Sora."
And they laid together before the others came and got them. At first, they believed Riku was clinging to him, only to hear Sora wake up when they called out to Riku.
They all helped him up so he could hug everyone and make them believe he was really there and awake. However, they let Sora rest back in the bed when he began to feel weak again since he had been sleeping for awhile. But it didn't bother them. They were just so excited and happy that Sora was finally home.
But no one was as happy as Riku. No one.
.
.
OKAY SO! This was a little difficult to write. The opening was good and I kinda liked that part. That's actually where this idea started, since I just imagined Sora's mother reading him and Riku a story and then I saw your posts and was like, "oh...SLEEPING BEAUTY!!!" And then this popped out. These are some author notes.
Okay so like this took so long to come out because I wrote it but then I had so many different ideas. I wanted him to kiss him on the lips but I kinda thought that Riku wouldn't exactly do that since he didn't want to I guess do that to Sora?? Since he was asleep and couldn't say anything?? So he just kissed him on his temple and it woke him up. AND THAT WASN'T JUST MY IDEA!! I got it from the movie Maleficent that came out in 2014. In the end of that movie, Maleficent was the one to wake up Aurora. She kissed her on her forehead and she woke up!! I was like, "oh yeah that's perfect for Riku."
I wanted to include the times Sora was asleep, but I didn't see how that would help anything or contribute to the plot, so I didn't. I only included the time where Sora was asleep to get his memories back, so I could show that Riku suffered during that (Even if we already knew that) and say how it was going to get worse >:).
Thus took so many rewrites because like...the ending of where Sora is found in crystal was so difficult to write. At first, I had him finding him in the position he was in the Remind ending, but I couldn't write it good, so I just switched it to him laying down in crystal form :). Let's just say that I wrote this multiple times and finally got on this version! And??? We like?? Don’t know what caused the crystal (I believe), so I just said that it was meant to protect him and fell away when Riku came bc now he would protect him :).
Putting in the sunlight on the tower part was a little difficult since I couldn't write it properly but!! I hope you enjoyed this!! I love your posts and I hope you love this! It may not be the best, but I love it.
AND!! That beginning of the story is actually from the movie. All of it is from the movie until the, "On that joyous day," part. Like the part of describing the event is my own writing and such. But the quote of Maleficent cursing Aurora and the gift that Merryweather gave Aurora is actually from the movie and word for word so I hope you like that part :).
There is some proofreading, but I could've missed something, so sorry if I did miss something!

2 part commission - Harry Hook x reader - the masked princess - part 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
commission from @musicarose
=
You sat silently at an empty lunch table, watching as those at the next looked at you wearily and whispered to each other.
You sighed, leaning on your hand and picking at your food.
You were the second daughter of Aurora and Phillip, the younger sister of Audrey…the one everyone avoided because of your sister's attempted take over.
It wasn’t fair, almost everyone had forgiven her within the day she was returned to normal, and almost everyone shunned you for what SHE did.
You looked up, watching as your sister walked through the doors, laughing and smiling with Jane and Evie. You swallowed down the pit in your throat and stuffed some mac n cheese in your mouth.
It wasn’t fair.
--
You looked up from your sketchbook notebook as the teacher announced there would be new students joining the class.
“Everyone, I want you to welcome our new students.” you felt your breath stop as a tall, dark, handsome boy walked through the doors, his bright ocean blue eyes scanning the room as a girl with long teal hair entered in after him.
‘That’s uma’ you thought, remembering her from your sister's ramblings ‘so that must be…’
“Harry ‘ook” the tall boy muttered, obviously bored as the teacher made him introduce himself. ‘Harry Hook’ you finished your thought, finally tearing your eyes away from the handsome son of Hook.
“Alright, Harry you sit back there with miss (whatever aurora and Phillips last name is) and uma-“ you ignored the rest of the teacher's speech, watching from the corner of your eye as Harry made his way towards you and sat down in the desk next to you.
You didn’t bother to say hi, you knew the others would tell him to stay away from you as soon as they got a grip on him.
It didn’t stop your heart from latching onto him, even if you told it that it would never happen.
Because in the week and months following, you saw a side that you knew many others didn’t see.
He was a brother, his playfulness with the younger members of his crew, making faces at his sisters when they weren’t looking. His laughter as CJ jumped onto his back and demanded to be carried.
He was creative, humming little tunes as he worked, little doodles on the edges on his page, the spark of excitement in his bright ocean blue eyes when the teacher would assign an art or writing based assignment.
He was a strategist, joining tourney and quickly rising the ranks to the captain as he shaped up the team and destroying the other schools with quick and witty plans.
He was smart, in the sense of people, able to tell if someone was angry or sad from simply glancing at their hands. He could taunt someone into messing up, leading to many a victory in tourney and R.O.A.R. along with getting someone like chad to leave the new young isle kids alone.
He was kind, you had seen him carry small animals in his coat and hoodies, cooing at them and handling them gently. He stayed with crew members and younger members of the isle as they cried or had panic attacks.
He was brave, diving into deep-sea waters as Jane fell in. tackling a rabid animal as it tried to attack dude, standing up to a deranged villain.
You just couldn’t help but fall in love with the bright blue-eyed pirate. And it sucked, knowing he only knew you as ‘the girl who I sit next to in a couple of classes and gave me a pencil one time’
So you sat in your corner, watching as girls flirted with him, and him flirt back…including your sister.
She didn’t know you liked him but it still hurt, but you knew that if he had a choice he would choose her over you.
She was more outgoing, she was the perfect daughter, she was the oldest daughter of Aurora, she was the one in the spotlight.
Why would the handsome, brave, kind and charming Harry Hook choose the plain, closed in, and unnoticed younger sister of Audrey.
Then one day.
Tumblr media
You tilted your head, taking one of the free flyers in the clear hanging box next to the hanging poster, turning it over to see the back
-meet at the grand ballroom (cafeteria) the 31st at 7 pm-
That…that sounded fun, you smiled to yourself, you needed a night to just…let yourself be unknown because so many others would be as well.
But…your shoulders sagged, you didn’t have any dresses, and you were too socially awkward to go ask for one.
So as the day of the ball drew closer, you watched as the other students chatter about their outfits and masks, some considering asking their crush or s/o to the ball.
You listened to your sister wonder about asking Harry…and you sat in the background, sketching out a beautiful blue mask and dress, based on the blue version of your mother's classic dress.
A knock sounded at the window of your room, you and your sister looked to each other and you stood and carefully looked out, sighing in relief as three balls of light floated about.
You opened the window and stepped aside.
Fauna, flora, and Merryweather gently flew in, growing in size as they landed on the floor. “hello children~” fauna cheered, her and flora walking over to Audrey as Merryweather sat next to you, offering a cookie.
“We heard there's a ball coming up and we want to help you get ready!” flora cheered, clapping her hands together.
You sighed and sat back, Merryweather tilting her head at you “(y/n)? sweetheart, what's wrong?”
“I don’t think im going” you muttered, Merryweather puffed up and leaned forward.
“why not?”
“well, I don’t have a dress or mask for it, and the guy I like is probably going with Audrey, I- I really don’t see a reason to go” you looked down to your lap, playing with your fingers.
“well…that’s not- alright, ill help make you a dress and mask, and you'll go to the ball, and you'll turn everyone's head and get that boy!”
You shushed her, you didn’t want Audrey to hear “no! not so loud, besides, who would want me there?”
“us!” Merryweather stressed, “we’ll be there as chaperones, and we want you to go out for once and have fun!”
You sighed, laughing a little and nodding “alright, alright ill go!”
Merryweather smirked and gave a triumphant nod. “good, now show me what your thinking of wearing”
As you showed her your sketch, Merryweather's face brightened “oh my, (y/n) that is a gorgeous dress! And that mask-ohhhh that boy will go gaga over you”
You chucked, shaking your head. “alright merry”
As Audrey left with flora and fauna, merry magicked up some blue ombre fabric, gently floating the sketch page in front of her and muttering some random words and measurements.
“you'll look amazing trust me love” you sighed, letting Merryweather do her work.
“and ill enchant it so it won't fit anyone else but you since I know how your sister is” you burst out laughing recalling all the times she borrowed your clothes and never returned them.
“thanks” you settled down in the windowsill chair and pulled your sketchbook to you, sketching down a particular boy and girl dancing away.
===
You finished the wing on your liner, breathing deeply and edging from your mirror, all that was left was to do your hair and get dressed, and then it would be time to go to the ball.
“alright (y/n) you got this, it's just a ball, everyone will be wearing masks, no one will know it's you”
Audrey was already at the “ballroom” being apart of the planning committee. “and maybe- maybe harry will notice you? Yeah right”
You snorted, backing away from the mirror and looking to your bed, smiling softly at the ombre blue ball gown, the light blue mask resting next to it.
“Alright, let's do this!”
---
Harry sighed, he was bored, Audrey wouldn’t shut up and leave him alone, he wished he hadn’t been convinced to come along by evie.
He reached up, fixing the sliding mask on his nose and stood from leaning against the wall, ignoring Audrey as she asked him what he was doing.
He walked to the punch line, groaning loudly as uma stepped next to him, her teal sea-themed mask staring back at him. “your bored aren’t you?” she chuckled.
“there's no one interestin’” he snorted. Looking around the room….wait who- “uma whos tha’?” harry whispered, pointing over to the main doors.
Uma turned, her brows raising as she spotted who harry was talking about.
The masked girl wore an off-shoulder blue ombre ball gown with glitter on the end of the skirt, an elegant blue mask encrusted with diamonds placed delicately on her face.
Tumblr media
Her (h/c) hair (curled, straightened, braided) and framing her face perfectly.
Smokey eyes hiding behind the mask, (lip type) lips painted with a tint of (reddish/peach/whatever color u want)
“Wow, she's pretty” she whistled, smirking as harry broke away from her and walked directly to the girl.
“uh oh” she chuckled “I feel like im in one of those classic fairy tales now”
“why?” Gil came up behind her, mask on top of his head, and eating honey beignets.
“you know it, the young man, bored at the ball, unamused by anyone's advances, suddenly he stops! For there she stands, the girl of his dreams!” gil looked up, seeing Harry's red-suited form walking up to the girl in blue.
“who she is or where she came from he does not know, nor does he care” uma smirked watching as harry gently grabbed her hand, the girl whipping around surprised, her ears becoming darker.
“for his heart tell him, that here, here is the maiden destined to be his~” Harry pressed his lips to her hand, smiling at her.
Uma and Gil looked to each other and chuckled “it seems we may have an addition to the crew?”
“if she unmasks herself at the end of the night like everyone else” uma thought aloud. Gentle music began to play, harry bowed and held his hand out to the girl, inviting her to dance.
She took his hand and he led her to the main dance floor, joining the others.
“uma” Gil announced in a posh voice “may I have this dance milady~”
Uma let out a cackle “you may~”
---
You knew Harry was the one who had walked up to you, kissed your hand, asked you to dance, and continued to spend the night with you.
And you didn’t care, you knew he didn’t know who you were, and would forget about you the next day. But you didn’t care, you would follow Merryweather's wish for you to simply have fun.
It had been a wonderful couple of hours, you had met uma and gil for the first time, and you loved them (you wished you were brave enough to meet them without the mask) you met his sisters CJ and Harriet.
And now you and harry sat just outside the ballroom on the balcony simply talking and laughing.
Harry tilted his head at you, a bright smile on his face “so lass, how come I haven’t seen yeh around the school, Im sure I would have noticed a bonnie lass like yeh around.”
You gave a nervous giggle and shrugged “im not that noticeable, trust me”
You jumped as the bell sounded, looking inside you saw the rest of the school standing in front of the stage where the band was, seeing fairy godmother announce the removal of the masks.
“oh, I have- I have to go!” you stood, desperate to leave when Harry grabbed your wrist, you whipped back around, chest hurting as you looked into Harry's confused eyes.
“But why? Everyones about ta remove their masks, I don’t even know yer name?” you shook free, holding your hand close to your chest.
“im-im sorry”
“10!”
“please at least tell me yer name” harry pleaded, you bit your lip, you didn’t want to tell him your name, you knew as soon as you did he would know and would avoid you like all the others.
“rose…my name is rose” really (y/n)? your mother's old name?
“rose…ill find yeh” you looked into his bright ocean blue eyes one last time and bolted, not bearing to look as the crowd said the final number and removed their masks.
…Harry looked after you, slowly removing his mask.
“ill find yeh” he muttered, he promised to himself, he would find his masked princess.
-----
You slammed your dorm room closed, doing your best to not hyperventilate. “okay…okay, breathe (y/n) breathe! He doesn’t know it was you, he won't find out!”
You stopped “oh but…” a smile bloomed on your face “even if he does….ill never regret this night”
You leaned off the door, slowly dancing as you made your way across the room.
“so this is what mom felt when she met dad” you sighed, removing your mask and gloves, placing them into a box to shove under your bed.
You paused, thumb brushing against the nose of the mask “maybe ill get my prince?”

AN: here’s the first chapter for “the ripple effect”, story by myself (I’m still under anesther on AO3/tumblr) and character designs by @queenofthelanternfish. the pinned post gives the gist of it, and the note on AO3 adds further detail, so make sure to check AO3 more.
Title: The Ripple Effect
Characters: Entrapta, Hordak, Odessa (fanchild)
Pairing: Entrapdak, features other canon couples
Rating: M
Read on AO3.
                                                           Return
                                                               -
Entrapta breathes in the air, chest lifting from the inhale, “Wow, I forgot how fresh Etheria smells.”
Hordak looks at Odessa, “How are your olfactory senses?”
Odessa gives a delicate sniff, “Normal functioning. The medicine is working.”
“Good. The last time we arrived, you could not stop sneezing.”
Entrapta sits on her hair, the strands extending out in long strides, keeping up with her family. Readying the map, she gushes, “You had the cutest little sneeze.”
“I hate sneezing,” Odessa frowns. “It’s torture.”
“That’s why Hordak and I made sure you’re well this time! It should last the duration of our stay.”
Odessa nods, still tentative about breathing. Etheria is beautiful, but she could do without the pollen.
Sunlight streams down from the heavens, the sky melting with brilliant colors. Imp’s shadow skirts across their forms as he mimics various sounds, with Emily rolling in front of them.
Birdsong is foreign to her ears, no matter how often they visit; too used to the whirs and clanking of a laboratory and makeshift garage. Fauna and flora tread through their environment, teeming with powerful magic. As they proceed through the woods, she collects a sample of glowing energy, handing it to her mother for future study, to see how well Etheria continues to fare.
She has come here only a few times in her life, at the behest that she visits her parents’ friends and acquaint herself with her Etherian half. She doesn’t mind, but when you’ve traveled beyond stars and suns, Etheria is welcoming as much as she supposes it can.
She does find Bright Moon pretty, at least. Though it could be grungier.
She takes her time as her parents and siblings continue on, being warmly received by the king and queen of Bright Moon. She stares out at the Whispering Woods, crossing the bridge in silence.
“Imp has gotten big!” Bow says, patting the top of his head. Smiling at the happy sound of purring, he addresses Hordak, “We didn’t think he could age.”
Hordak shrugs, “Neither did we, but we’ve been checking his growth spurts for the last year or so.”
Coming into view, Glimmer greets Odessa, “Hey! How have you been?”
She smiles lightly, “I have been well, thank you.”
Bow pats her shoulder, “You’ve gotten tall, too! Last I saw you, you were at my waist.” He grins slyly. “Have your parents been feeding you experimental science food?”
“The occasional amniotic fluid is dropped atop my meals, but I did get this new port inserted into my back,” she replies, grinning wide while turning around to show them.
“Oh my!” Glimmer says, glancing at her parents, then back at her. Clearly perturbed. “Did it hurt?”
“No, my parents are very accurate with surgical tools. Except for that one time…”
Glimmer and Bow exchange worried glances.
Odessa smiles, palms up, “I’m kidding.”
Glimmer and Bow laugh, albeit oddly.
“You don’t think I would endanger my child, do you?” Hordak asks, smirking.
“No, no!” they say together, waving their hands.
Entrapta wraps her arms around their shoulders, shoving them into each other, “It’s actually a very simple procedure! Would you two be interested?”
With an appropriate amount of vehemence, they decline the offer. The group chats about the latest changes in Etherian politics, culture, festivities, and other miscellaneous details. Odessa listens partially, more interested in Imp scaling the walls, letting her thoughts wander.
The halls have been painted differently, and the rest has been decorated with various plants and statues. It’s not as sparse as she saw it before. It lends to a softer appearance, though she doesn’t mind it being empty.
“How has your education been going, Odessa?” Glimmer asks.
“Excellent,” Odessa answers.
Entering a spare room, furnished with soft pastel cushions, a lounge chair, also adorned with pillows, and a futon for laying out, Odessa sits herself on the closest seat by the door. Imp settles beside her, with Emily taking the spot behind and spinning in place.
“What else has been going on with you?” Bow asks. He gestures to the table, where a spread of food and drink has been displayed. “Did you pick up anything new?”
“I have increased my focus on herpetology for the moment,” she says, taking a cup of tea. Sipping it, she bites down distaste, and dumps six sugar cubes in it.
Curious, his eyes light up, “Ohh, what’s that?”
“The study of snakes,” Odessa says. Not caring about the droop in his features, she continues. “And I’ve been increasing my wet specimen collection.”
Glimmer raises a brow, “Is that the hobby you have where you put… things in jars?”
“Yes!” Odessa replies, excited. “I managed to get a good one on the last planet we visited. It’s hard to find a decent fetus.”
“Her collection is fascinating,” Entrapta agrees. “There are so many creatures she has managed to acquire. There’s this giant spider she has in a jar with mandibles the size of your forearm!”
“That is your largest at the moment,” Hordak says to Odessa, propping an arm on his knee.
“I’m hoping to get a bigger specimen soon,” Odessa says. She turns to Glimmer and Bow, grin coming back. “There’s a planet in the nearest sector that has some of the most venomous species you can find. I hope to find one there.”
“Well, I hope you succeed,” Glimmer giggles, nodding despite her stomach churning.
Bow smiles through the pain, but he adds, “My dads have expanded their library to include other subjects aside from First Ones artifacts. You can go there if you want to ask them anything at all.”
“Really? Thanks!” Odessa says. Maybe this trip will be fruitful. She turns to her parents, “Oh, while I’m here, I was wondering when I could—”
“Mama, Papa, are you in here?”
Odessa turns, finding the princess at the door.
“Aurora! There you are. Our guests arrived,” Glimmer says, waving a hand in their direction.
“Oh, hello!” she replies, bowing her head.
Odessa and her family rise in respect, returning the bow.
“I’m glad to see you again,” Aurora says, giving a genteel smile. “Was your trip well?”
“Yes,” Odessa answers.
Entrapta nods vigorously, “We had a great trip!”
“That’s good to hear,” Aurora says. She looks at her parents, “Mama, I was going to ask you if it was all right for me to go out.”
Glimmer grins at her, “You don’t have to ask me to go places!”
She smiles, hands folded in front of her, “I thought I would anyway.”
Bow nods, “Of course you can go out. Are you going to visit people?”
“Yes.”
“Why don’t you take Odessa with you? I’m sure she’d like to see everyone.”
Aurora’s brow gives the barest twitch.
Odessa keeps her face neutral, turning to her own folks, “Would that be fine with you?”
“Sure!” Entrapta says. “Bring back anything interesting!”
Hordak nods his approval, smiling at her.
With that, the two girls exit the room together, going left, where they had all arrived from.
Neither of them speak, minding their own business. Aurora and she are both sixteen, though Odessa is older by almost four months. Their strides even, they walk in silence.
Aurora brushes her hair away. Glancing at the other royal, she asks, “How long will you be here for?”
“No longer than six weeks.”
Satisfied with the answer, they part in opposite directions.
Odessa heads out of the palace, coming to the bridge. Bringing out her tracker pad, the map coming to the screen, she sends a message out to two people. Then she continues out into the woods.
                                                               -
Plumeria is as pollen-ridden as ever. Giving a small sniff, Odessa pushes back large leaves. Coming to the center of it, the Heart-Blossom thrums with magic. It’s risen higher, standing above the rest of the kingdom. Walking through the trees, she is greeted by a few villagers.
Heading further out, she notes the additions of homes with sturdier foundations. Approaching a door she’s knocked on before, she grins when it opens, “Hi!”
Hydrangea shouts, “Odessa!” Wrapping her arms around her friend, squeezing tight, she kisses her cheeks in delight. “Oh my gosh, you’re here sooner than I thought!”
“Helps to have a hyperdrive.”
“Mom! Mom, Odessa’s here!”
There’s a loud crash, followed by apologetic mumblings. Scorpia comes from behind the wall, a wide grin spreading her face, the pink of her gums revealed, “Oooh, Odessa! There you are!”
“Hi, Scorpia,” she says, fully awaiting the crushing blow of her hugs, closing her eyes. She opens an eyelid, “What are you doing?”
Scorpia’s claws touch each other, looking unsure, “Do you want a hug? You’re older now, I’ve heard teenagers hate it.”
“I didn’t travel across the universe to not get a Scorpia Hug,” Odessa says, opening her arms wide. “Bring it in, dang it!”
Obliging, Scorpia crushes her daughter and her friend’s child in her arms. Shaking them to and fro, Scorpia says, “Okay good! Apparently, only you and Gea are into hugs at this stage.”
“I don’t let just anyone hug me,” Odessa explains. “You’re an exception.”
Cooing, tears in her eyes, Scorpia hugs Odessa tighter. Setting her down, she holds her hands in her pincers, “It’s so good to see you again! How have you been?”
“I’ve been alright,” Odessa replies, knowing she’s going to have to answer that several more times during her visit. Small talk is about as entertaining as a needle in your spine. She should know—not a single person she’s done it to liked it. Though, those same people would likely prefer casual conversation to a lumbar puncture. Entering the small home, a hearth holds a fire in its maw, the scent of stew wafting in her nostrils, much more pleasant. Nearby, a table contains herbal teas, a pestle and mortar resting beside dried flowers, fruits and seeds. She catches the smell of sugar, eager, “Are those what I think they are?”
Hydrangea smiles, “You bet! They’re about done. Come here, sit down, get comfy.”
Taking a chair, Odessa leans over the table, making mental records of the items on the table. She looks up at Scorpia, “Were you two busy?”
“Nope! We were tidying up a little so you wouldn’t find a mess when you got here, but you beat us to it.”
“It’s not messy.”
“Oh, good.” Relieved, Scorpia heads into the kitchen, hearing the ding of the oven. “I’ll be back.”
Hydrangea locks her fingers together, scales dappled by light outside. Chin resting on them, she asks, “Have you been here long?”
“No more than an hour or two.”
“I’m glad you’re back. I missed you!”
“I missed you too,” Odessa says, smiling.
Scorpia and her daughter, Hydrangea, are a handful of individuals that she is always thrilled to see. She converses with them through the complex network of telecommunication systems that her parents had installed before they had gone out to explore the universe.
Hydrangea’s bubbly demeanor makes her easy to be around, similar to her mothers. They were different in nearly every aspect of personality and interest, but they were together all the time when she would visit. Scorpia had been ecstatic to see them getting along, and Entrapta had said that the likelihood of their babies being fond of each other was high from the start.
Whether it was true or not, Odessa enjoyed having Hydrangea’s company regardless.
Scorpia returns, holding a plate, “Here you go! Be careful, they’re hot.”
Eyes alight, Odessa takes a peach muffin in her hands. Without a second thought, she takes a large bite. The heat and flavor coat her tongue, sending happy tingles down her back.
“Doesn’t it burn?” Hydrangea asks.
“It’s a good burn,” she says, licking the sugar dust from her fingers.
Scorpia sits across from her, “I’m glad you still like them! Did you not eat?”
“I had tea at Bright Moon,” Odessa replies, polishing off the wrapper of the first. Reaching for another, she says, “But I wanted to come over here. I knew you two would feed me.”
Hydrangea gives her a playful shove, “Des, you’re incorrigible.”
“No, I’m hungry,” she says. Looking around, she raises a brow, “Where’s Perfuma?”
“She had a meeting to go to, but she should be back in the evening.”
“Is she avoiding me?” Odessa smirks, suspicions confirmed.
“What?! No!” Scorpia waves her claws. “She wouldn’t avoid a person.”
Hydrangea places a forefinger to her chin, “Well, maybe a little. You did start a fire last time you were here.”
“I said sorry for that. I repaired the damage,” Odessa says. “How was I supposed to know that the drone was going to blow up? By all accounts, it shouldn’t have.”
“Fair, but you know how Plumerians are. We’re not exaaaactly known for being open to new inventions.”
Odessa keeps from rolling her eyes, “I’ll apologize to her again, if she likes. I brought a peace offering too. And, really, she’s acting like I burned the whole forest when it was just a small fire that erupted from the machine.”
Scorpia shakes her head, patting Odessa on the hand, “I know, little beetle. I think it just bothered her how it happened.”
“I promise I’m not going to do anything this time. I really thought the drone would deposit seeds more efficiently.”
Scorpia and Hydrangea nod, knowing she had good intentions. It was strange, but Perfuma held onto this grudge for a while longer than normal. It wouldn’t come up in conversation, and she appeared to have moved on, but when it was announced that Entrapta’s family would be visiting, Perfuma had been a little cold to the idea. And she left just shortly before Odessa had arrived.
Finishing up, Scorpia gathers the plates, “She is running around doing errands for right now. You can give her your gift when you come back tonight. I’m excited to see your parents!”
“That sounds like a good idea,” Agreeing, belly full, Odessa stands up, looking at Hydrangea. “Ready?”
“Yes! See you later, Mom!” Hydrangea tells Scorpia.
“Bye, girls!”
With that, she and Hydrangea go out of the hut. Trekking through the vast underbrush, the two come to a small portal, meant for planetary travel and nothing else. Rushing over, Odessa types in their coordinates. Hydrangea quietly squeals, palms put together.
They walk into a whirling mass of energy and heat. Stepping out, they inhale briny gusts, seagulls cawing overhead. In front of them stands a young man with arms folded, a cool look on his face.
“Tristan,” Odessa greets, expression equally frigid.
“Odessa,” he replies.
They stare for a moment. Then burst into laughter. He rushes over, grabbing her head in a tight lock, “You’re getting slow!”
“And you still never think!” Odessa yells, reaching around to pinch the nerve at the back of his knee. Flipping him over, she stands over him, giving a toothy grin. “See?”
Laughing, he takes her offered hand, “It’s good to see you! I’ve been so bored.”
“Aw, do you and Gea not hang out?” she asks.
“Of course we do,” Hydrangea says, rising on her toes to give him a friendly kiss on the cheek. “It’s just been a while since the three of us have been together. This is so wonderful!”
“Yeah, let’s go!” Tristan says, breaking into a light jog. “I got my boat ready!”
The trio run toward the docked vessel. Jumping onto the deck, Hydrangea looks at Tristan, “Where to, Captain?”
“Ocean bound for now,” he says, untying it from its post. “That sound good?”
“Yeah!” is the cry from his mates, and the boat is loosened from its position, anchor sliding up from the water. The sails unfurl, and Tristan stands at the helm. The winds pick up, as he predicted, and with his call upon the seas, the ship begins to dart across the water, droplets of seawater splashing them.
Pumping her fist into the air, Odessa whoops, hair whipping past her. Looking over her shoulder at him, she shouts, “Can it go faster?”
Tristan’s mouth spreads into a wide, devilish grin. One hand on the wheel, he reaches forward, lifting up a small, inconspicuous lid near him. He reaches in, pressing something.
In a moment, their surroundings become nothing but ocean and sky. The scent of the sea rushes through her nostrils, her friends cheering along with her. Wild giggles burst from Hydrangea, as Tristan hollers at the top of his lungs.
Odessa’s smile widens, noticing the rocks jutting out from blue waters. Hydrangea and she exchange glances before turning to Tristan. His composure doesn’t falter, narrowing his eyes, daring unforgiving elements to destroy them.
Calling out instructions, the sail is lifted. Readying themselves, Hydrangea climbs to the top of the mainsail, yelling out caution for rocks he cannot see, gripping onto the solid rail. Odessa keeps the rope tight in her hands, in case he needs more wind. Tristan steers through the rocks, seafoam crashing against stone and metal.
The sound of air in her ears drowns out all sound, the vessel cutting through water. Veering sharp turns, sea spray hits them. Rocks pass by in narrow pathways, so close Odessa could reach out to touch them. Then as quickly as they arrived, they propel through into the clear open sea.
Hydrangea comes down from her perch, laughing with Odessa. Tristan wears a contented grin, easing the speed to a more leisurely pace.
Sunlight dazzles upon the water, its light dancing on their forms. Odessa brushes away loose hairs, locking both of them in her arms, happy to see them again.
                                                                 -
“That’s cool you went to Pilan,” Tristan says, taking a sip of his drink. “You’d been wanting to be there for a few years.”
Odessa waves at the waiter through the crowd. Her own beverage now refilled, she takes a large bite out of her food. Swallowing, she nods, “I know. I didn’t think we’d be able to get there before coming back to Etheria.”
Hydrangea leans back against the seat. Not bothering with her fork, she picks up a strawberry slice from her salad, “It wasn’t too far from your last stop.”
“Yes, but my father likes to keep a tight schedule, if he can. Mom’s more lenient but you know him.”
Joking, she asks, “Is he still a grumpy cactus?”
“He wouldn’t be my father if he wasn’t,” Odessa replies, affection in her tone.
Tristan pats his chest, releasing a light burp. Relaxing back, he adds, “That’s true. Apples don’t fall far from the tree—I saw you when someone woke you up too early.”
Odessa mimics his motion, giving a belch of her own, “And you never bothered me in the morning again.”
“You two are gross,” Hydrangea tells them, wiping her mouth with a napkin.
“You love us,” Tristan says, waggling his eyebrows.
“Do I?” She shakes her head at them, despite smiling. “It’s hard to tell sometimes.”
“If you didn’t, you’d have left,” Odessa chimes in. Then, looking at Tristan, she raises a brow, leering at him. “Although, she must tolerate you more than I do, because there is no way I would have allowed you to grow that on your face if I was home.”
Crossing his arms, Tristan flushes, “I can do what I want.”
“It looks like a fuzzy caterpillar is above your lip,” Odessa teases. She turns in her spot, grabbing his face to inspect it better. “Seriously, who said it was a good idea to let you grow a moustache.”
“I’ll have you know,” Tristan pushes Odessa away, touching the small hairs with his finger. “That everyone on my dad’s side can grow decent moustaches. Mine’s just taking a little bit…”
“I’ll say. You won’t have one like Seahawk’s until you’re 80.”
Huffing, Tristan sticks his tongue out at her.
Hydrangea waves her left hand, “I’m sure you’ll eventually get it! Although, it has been three months…”
Odessa snorts, cackling, “What? Three months and that’s it?”
Tristan glares at her, “I’m a late bloomer with this!”
“Riiiiiight. And I’m growing one out too, can’t you tell?”
Sinking into his seat, Tristan looks away, annoyed.
Hydrangea tilts her head to try and meet his gaze, “We don’t think it’s stupid.”
“I do,” Odessa says.
At Hydrangea’s disapproving stare, Odessa shrugs.
“You can grow it out if you want to. There’s nothing wrong with growing it out,” Hydrangea assures him.
“If you’re fine looking like that,” Odessa adds. Then she winces, a sharp kick delivered to her leg. Glaring at her friend, who gives an icy stare in turn, she relents, “B-But I more mean, well, I don’t think it suits you, is all.”
Tristan pouts further, bottom lip sticking out.
“Come on, Tris, I’m sorry,” Odessa says, hand to her chest. “I promise it’s not bad.”
He glances at her, “Really?”
“Yeah! It’s just been a while since I’ve been home. It’ll grow in. I couldn’t help teasing you.”
Sitting back up, Tristan keeps his arms folded, “Okay… Are you sure it’s fine?”
“Yep,” Odessa lies.
Pleased with the encouragement, Tristan resumes eating. Odessa almost exhales in relief. She forgets he can be pretty sensitive about his appearances. At his slowly improving mood, Odessa glances at Hydrangea, who takes a sip of her tea with demurely closed lashes. When she looks up, Odessa narrows her eyes.
She’s ignored. Hydrangea changes the topic of conversation, and the feeling of the trio goes back to lighter, informal chit chat. Odessa sighs internally. She knows she can be difficult with her inability to tell even the smallest fib, but damn, she didn’t have to kick that hard.
Meal finished, Tristan goes to pay while Odessa and Hydrangea leave the establishment.
Hydrangea raises a brow, “When are you going to learn to not say rude things?”
“Never,” replies Odessa. She shoves her, a little more roughly than usual. “And you didn’t have to kick.”
“You weren’t getting the hint. I would rather Tristan not break down in tears in public.”
“Ugh, he wouldn’t cry in public. He keeps that bottled in.”
“Until you go too far,” Hydrangea elbows her in the ribs. “Can’t you be supportive?”
“Gea, you know I have a hard time lying! You may as well tell me to hold my breath forever—it can’t be done.”
Sighing, she admits, “I know, I know, you’re not good with lying. But think of it as… omitting information, for right now.”
“Fine, I won’t be mean to him. In public,” she adds.
“Odessa…”
“Fine. I won’t be mean to him about his stupid moustache. Although, I will blame you for letting it happen.”
Hydrangea gives a smile, “Okay, that’s fair. He just looked so excited, I couldn’t talk him out of it.”
“That's why I’m here to convince him otherwise.”
“Ah-bup-bup-bup!” Hydrangea wags her finger. “No. He will learn, on his own time, it’s not a good look.”
Heaving a long, exasperated sigh, Odessa watches Tristan walk over to them. Deciding it’s time to go home, they sail back to Salineas. Once there, they dock the ship, though Tristan doesn’t start heading down the pier.
“What’s up? It’s getting late,” Odessa says.
“I haven’t seen you in forever, I’m not leaving yet. Besides, it’s boring at home,” Tristan tells her.
The three head to the portal. Putting in their destination, they are greeted by Odessa’s family in front of its arch.
Entrapta waves at them enthusiastically, “Hey! There you are.”
“Hi, Mom. Were you waiting?”
“No, we are on the way to Scorpia’s! Hydrangea, Tristan, hi!”
Returning the greeting, Hydrangea is pulled forward by Entrapta’s hair, her recorder in hand, “Tell me, since we’re here, how is the portal functioning?”
“Oh! It’s still in top-notch shape,” she answers, stepping awkwardly forward as she keeps up with the tech princess.
“Hey, Hordak,” Tristan says, coming up to him.
“Hello, Tristan. I trust you have been in good health.”
“Yeah, I have. The additions to my boat have been awesome!”
Hordak smiles, “Good. Is the speed to your liking?”
“Absolutely,” Tristan says. “Odessa can confirm.”
She nods, “It was a really impressive ride. You two made that heap of junk into a new machine.”
Tristan turns back to Hordak, chatting away with him about increasing the boat’s capabilities, while Hydrangea continues to converse with Entrapta.
It makes her think of when they were little. Her friends, she knew, were viewed as an extension of herself, and thus, they were treated accordingly by her parents. But she also was aware of the mutual esteem they had for her friends. Entrapta and Hordak were encouraging in her decisions to expand her social circle, but they also were the sort to be intolerant toward bad friendships. And by ‘they’ she means her father, who is far from willing to watch her be taken advantage of.
Scorpia is waiting in front of the hut, waving a large claw at them. Entrapta and Hordak are squeezed tightly against her chest once they’re in range, “Hi, lovebirds!”
“Hey, Scorpia! What’s new with you?” Entrapta asks, being set down.
“Oh, we’ve been busy! There are lots of new homes here, we’re expanding a little further south.”
Odessa goes to the nearest corner with Hordak, the two settling down on the couch. Tristan and Hydrangea discuss their own plans and time with each other, as Entrapta catches up with Scorpia.
Odessa glances at her father, “How’d it go with the king and queen?”
“Glimmer and Bow were welcoming, as normal. We discussed their latest plans for Etheria, and your mother and I said we would offer our services for anything technology-based.”
She nods, reaching toward the platter of cookies left on the table.
“How long were you with Aurora?”
“No longer than five minutes. Then I went to see Tris and Gea,” she replies. She glances at him, “You don’t mind?”
“Of course not. You are free to befriend who you want,” Hordak says, patting her shoulder.
Smiling at him, she turns in her seat, “Dad, by the way, I had some ideas while we’re here. I wanted to go to the Crimson Waste and get some specimens to dissect.”
“Does it include Etherian corpses?”
“Not corpses, per se. And I’m not grave-robbing. I wanted to find some old bodies to study.”
Hordak nods, “You’ll have more luck in the southern region. Will your friends be accompanying you?”
“I’ll ask them later, but for now, I’m going to assume no.”
“Would you want your mother and I to come?”
“That’d be cool!” she says, eyes bright.
He smiles at her, “We’d be delighted to ‘not grave-rob’ with you.”
Perfuma had sent a message saying she’ll be busy tonight. Despite that, the evening passed without any other event, and they all enjoyed each other’s company.
                                                              -
Odessa turns over a large boulder, “I thought for sure I’d find a body somewhere by now.”
“Your father said that it’s possible it’s changed again since we’ve last been here.”
Odessa knows this is correct. Sometime ago, during another expedition, they had learned that several oases had cropped up within the Crimson Waste. This makes searching for corpses, be it animal or Etherian, harder to acquire; in spite of its still severe temperature and environment, the organisms that called this territory home have been thriving since She-Ra and her parents aided them to harness magic in the sandy dunes.
“I suppose I should call it a day,” Odessa says, touching her chin. She glances at her mother, “But perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to explore for another hour or three.”
Entrapta grins, “Yeah, let’s keep looking!”
Splitting off into opposite directions, Odessa walks further along rocky terrain. She pauses when she finds Hordak gazing down at the dirt. Approaching him, Odessa looks at the Horde helmet beneath his feet, uncovered from years of being buried in sand; timeless and haunting.
Kneeling, Hordak lifts it up to inspect. He sighs.
“Dad, you know you can’t ruminate over it,” Odessa says, touching his shoulder.
“I do,” Hordak replies, wiping the surface, though there’s no sheen left to it. “I have tried to make peace with it, and for the most part, I have managed to move on from my mistakes.”
Odessa’s brow knit together. She’s never liked when he thinks too deeply about his past in the Horde, and the ramifications of it. Staring at the helmet, sharp wings barely visible, she asks, “What was our species like?”
“Pardon?” Hordak asks, turning to her.
“Our species.”
Hordak’s eyes narrow, placing the helmet back down, “We were Horde Prime’s loyal servants and soldiers.”
“But is that it?”
“There’s nothing more that can be explained.”
“Everyone comes from somewhere, however,” Odessa explains, rising to full height as he does. “Do you know anything of our species before Horde Prime decided to conquer other planets?”
Hordak’s expression falters. A scowl lining his features. “No.”
Odessa notes the tension in his shoulders. She asks, quietly, “Was that never a subject that was discussed?”
“Never,” Hordak answers, reaching down. He yanks up a bird corpse, still fairly preserved. Holding it out to her, he awaits her decision.
Satisfied, Odessa places it in a plastic bin. Never…? It’s hard to believe. She looks at him, “I know that Horde Prime could control you through possession via hivemind. But I find it interesting he never gave inkling to times before that. Were you always a colonizing species?”
Hordak stares at his child, “Truthfully, I don’t know.”
“Why?”
He sighs, discomfort settling in his chest. “Information about our kind is not an aspect of ourselves we own. When I was created, I hadn’t been alive as long as the others. For me, there was Horde Prime. And only him. However, there are clones who are on Etheria, or have left to travel the universe, that might have knowledge on the subject.”
Carrying her bin, Odessa and Hordak meet up with her mother, who had found other bodies to dissect, including an Etherian corpse of someone who had similarities to Double Trouble’s structure. A good haul. It may not be the most ethical activity, but she can’t very well open up living people.
Walking beside Entrapta, Odessa turns to her, “Mom, I have a question.”
“Ask away!”
“What do you know of Dad’s species?”
Entrapta’s brow furrows as well, confusion on her features. She sits back on her hair, scuttling along the dirt, “Nothing, aside from what we know involving Horde Prime.”
“Dad said the same thing. But there has to be knowledge from before that.”
“We never uncovered anything about Horde Prime that way. His species competed with the First Ones in expanding their respective sides throughout the universe. But there was never anything to suggest what life was like for your father’s species prior to the Horde. He was always there, as your father puts it.”
“Don’t you ever wonder why though?”
“Sure! All the time!” Entrapta replies.
Odessa smiles at her, “Then wouldn’t it be prudent to figure out what we can? Even a little research is important.”
“Ooh, we could collect fascinating data that way!” Entrapta says. Then she stares at Hordak’s retreating form. “What did your father say to you, when you asked?”
“Same things as you. Except he doesn’t sound as enthusiastic.”
Entrapta frowns a little, unsure.
“If it makes you feel better,” Odessa adds. “He did tell me some of his brothers might know, and to try there first.”
“That sounds like a good start!” Entrapta agrees, not feeling as bad now. She is the sort to pursue new, untapped discoveries, but Hordak’s found his past shameful and a source of great regret, one he still has never recovered from completely. If he gave Odessa the suggestion, then it’s likely he doesn’t mind her asking. She has always wanted to know. But not at his expense.
Grinning at Odessa, she says, “We’ll see who can help us!”
Odessa looks ahead, a cloud passing above them.
                                                             -
“Hey, are you okay?” Hydrangea asks.
Odessa stares out the window, chin resting on the back of her hand. She glances at her, “I’m thinking.”
“You’re always thinking,” Tristan adds. “What’s on your mind?”
“I’ve been thinking about my family. Not the Etherian one. My father’s side.”
“Are your uncles doing alright?” Hydrangea asks. “Do they need help with anything?”
“No, they’re all doing splendid. I mean that I’m curious about them, beyond what I already know.”
Tristan and Hydrangea glance at each other. He steps forward, “What do you want to know?”
“I want to know where we come from. Why we did what we did,” Odessa spins on the ball of her foot, a sharp grin on her features. “And I want you two to help me find out what that is.”

They Meet Your Family (on Thanksgiving)
Hi everyone! Long time no see! Work is very busy, so I’m trying to get around that however I can! (≧▽≦)
I hung out with my family yesterday and one of my cousins brought her new boyfriend--then this!
🍷 Victor 🍷
Is both ready and not ready to meet your family. On the one hand, it’s autopilot business mode--keep conversation going, on the other hand, IT’S YOUR FAMILY
Is afraid he’ll come off too blunt or intimidating because he knows he has hardcore RBF (resting bitch face)
Mentally prepares himself for all the ass-kissing and gushing. Probably makes some funny jokes and bets about how many people are going to do it
If you want to join in on that bet and do something fun, say he has to pledge a dollar or whatever amount towards the next couple’s night just so you can destress from all that!
If you’re serious about putting that pledge money somewhere, he’ll flip a coin or will get someone to randomly pick a charity
Second-most likely to get into an argument with THAT family member (or members)
If he’s tasked to cook a side dish, expect him to cook it multiple times because EVEN THOUGH THIS MAN IS A BANGING CHEF, HE’S CONVINCED IT’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH!
iT cOuLd bE bEtTeR
You finally tell him if he makes it again, and you have to eat more of it, you won’t eat any come the gathering. Suddenly the last batch is enough
Would also DEFINITELY come through and offer to get something special ordered or catered if lots of people are coming or the ovens will be tied up (or no one wants to cook)
Is actually super uncomfortable because he knows everyone’s going to kiss his ass and ask all the nosy questions for at least an hour or two
He’s the one people catch playing with kids or cats and they’re surprised at how nice and carefree he looks
If he can’t talk down or make it pointedly clear that someone’s conversation is making other people uncomfortable (or they’re just toeing the line of being an ass), there WILL be words
Or he will make it known just by leaving. That sends a pretty clear message
Wants to help set dishes or the table but ends up feeling like a bumbling idiot in someone else’s home and is shooed away for being a guest. Victor feels like a freeloader and doesn’t like it
The one who knows everyone’s name and their taboo subjects because he studied this shit (also, he’s really good with names/faces anyways
📢 Gavin 📢
Also has a milder version of RBF
He speaks abruptly but not to the point of being intimidating. Gavins just not one for a lot of words. Too complicated
Blushes really easy during those beginning awkward conversations? Look at his ears and neck!
Stumbles through the first few conversations and DEFINITELY has to ask people to repeat their names
Relaxes after about an hour or if he finds someone he can connect with--someone into sports or who likes a show he watches, or likes to drink.
Is way more active than Victor so he’s the perfect kid-chaser and playtime buddy. He’ll never get tired!
Tolerates kids pretty well but is in the mindset of lecturing them and/or explaining why they shouldn’t do something if he sees ‘bad behavior’ happening
Probably co-conspired with another family member to do a fake arrest or spin some story for a really misbehaving kid :o
He thought it was funny but the kid was scared to death. You’re not amused
Is proud of his cooking when it comes to you two, doesn’t want to share it with your family. Either bought something from the store to look helpful (”S/O brought ‘x’, I brought more drinks. I hope everyone likes them.”) or just left the prep to you. He bought the ingredients and carried it in though.
The one that’s ready to help set up outside chairs and tables
He’s the one that makes cooks happy because he goes back for second (and thirds)
Isn’t the best at taking pictures because his eyes end up closed or his wind blew his hair the wrong way, but they eventually get a good shot of him. Boy’s photogenic, just awkward.
🔬 Lucien 🔬
Considers it an event in people watching
It’s also a treasure hunt for your personality--where did you pick up your traits and quirks?
He’ll mentally track any strong genetics. Things like that fascinate him.
Is 100% mentally prepared for a lot of his work to go over people’s heads. He’s used to phrasing his research different ways
He’s an extremely adaptable conversationalist; he’s got a wide range of topics and knowledge at the ready! Lucien just has to want to talk about it
Very self-conscious about talking too much, and ends up doing the exact opposite
Can BS his way into looking calm, but is actually extremely shy and careful with his words. If not for his smile and kind, watchful gaze people would think he’s being stiff and short with them
Would MUCH rather chase any animals around the house or play with toddlers.
Will answer all the ‘BUT WHY?’ questions little kids have
The one who’s hungry but doesn’t want to make his plate. You sense this and make him one. Lucien is legitimately hungry but also relishes the excuse of having his face full so he can’t talk
Probably ends up getting roped into giving a few diagnosis even though he’s not that type of doctor. Would be honest and tell them he’s guessing, and that he’ll ask around his network of people for more info
Once his introvert/people battery is burnt out he’d very much like to leave (please help him leave)
Probably dozed off after all the food; I can see him sleeping with his head on your shoulder or off in a comfy chair in another room
If your family has a nice backyard or lots of trees and things, he’ll want to go on a post-meal walk to see the flora and fauna
Will help the kids try to catch bugs or teach them about animals he saw on his walk (with pictures, of course)
Overall, he made a nice impression. He’d end up being that weird but cool uncle that’s a nice hermit kind of guy.
🎤 Kiro 🎤
He knows there’s no easy or good way to include himself in your family.
Everyone’s going to freak out and gush about him, given who he is
The two of you tried to ease into things and drop hints but that ended up amping everyone up for a big reveal they DID NOT expect
He’s not super worried, given his Evol, but he will DEFINITELY come to your defense if someone accuses you of trying to be with him for money
He’s also especially sensitive and disgusted with people trying to hook up with him (they’re your family? You’re dating?! You think he’d CHEAT?!) and will call them out on the spot. No shame.
Kiro loves you--you’re his moon and sun!--and he won’t tolerate that FOR A SECOND!
Is low-key exhausted when people ask him all the standard nosy reporter questions
Kind of hates that they ask him about all his travels and other celebrities. He gets that it’s the allure of a ‘celebrity’ but he wanted to learn about THEM. They can search his name and get ALL this info!
If this goes on for too long and he starts to feel like a spectacle, you’ll get him out of there quick and just have a private Thanksgiving
Is super nice and helpful with any kids. Keeps them all distracted and from underfoot while cooking happens
Prefers the joy and company of kids way more because they’re more honest and less...back-stabby? Snake-ish? than adults who think they’re smart and clever
Records nice little messages and videos for the kids or their friends, but won’t live message anyone.
Teaches them some easy choreography in another room or open space like a backyard
Is the unexpected CHAMP of eating--can put almost everyone under the table
Goes HARD on desserts because his agent isn’t here to stop him. Also, it’s rude not to at least TRY the food he’s offered!
The type to complain about how much he ate while trying to reach for one more bite. Stop this man. He has no self control.
If the kids have a craft room (to keep them from being under foot) and they make anything for him--especially if it has his name, like a bead necklace or bracelet--THAT’S NOT COMING OFF! It’ll probably show up in some interviews.
Survives the social onslaught but definitely enjoys getting back to the quiet of the road
If it’s a really long way back or you two flew out to attend, he’s excited to get back to the hotel and relax with you.
Hope you liked it! Happy late Thanksgiving to those who celebrated it!

I Was Told What “Blue Blood” Really Means
if being "Blue Blood" has to do with inbreeding inside the family of Royalty,
then I'm glad that I'm a Purple Blood.
yeah after thinking about it, I wouldn't really be considered a "Blue Blood"
even though I would still technically be a "Princess",
but not the kind that would have the official title or live in some fancy castle.
at least some Royalty had some sense to marry outside the family nowadays,
and even if it is to a non-royal, the offspring would still be royalty.
so I wouldn't be a "Blue Blood", I would be a "Purple Blood"
I didn’t even know I was descended from royalty at first, it was a few years ago when I was told about it, can’t remember if it was during 2012 or 2013, but I know it was a few years ago, that much I know.
then I find out about the other “Royal heritages” I’m a descendant of.
one of the newer ones I found out about was being a descendant of King Solomon through his son Rehoboam.
and there is that whole “Plantagenet” too,  and some King of France who was named Philip II Augustus.
well since Grandpa Philip isn’t around anymore he is technically not the King anymore.
and I think there is a simple misunderstanding about the whole “blue veins” on your arm showing on pale skin, making ya royalty.
“blue veins” have nothing to do with that, I mean any human who is a bit pale can have that and they don’t need to be royal, they can be of royal blood or not, it doesn’t matter, I refuse to believe it has to do with the “royal blood”
that is just silly.
and some stay inside, because some have sensitive eyes to very bright sunlight....even if it might make them a bit  pale to stay inside, and if it shows the blue veins, I don’t believe it has to do with the whole being royal thing.
though at the moment some need to stay inside for a whole different reason.
and I really REALLY hope everyone is keeping safe and keeping inside
as well as making sure to wash their hands
and just keep clean by taking baths too.
but anyway, even though it would appear the whole “blue blood” for royalty back in many decades and centuries ago, meaning keeping the royal bloodline pure by intermarriage inside the family.
at least some of those royals back then had married outside the family.
both to other royals and non-royals, created the “Purple Bloodline”
by the way, even if two royals were to marry and they happen to be cousins
the marriage could only work if the two are VERY VERY super distant related
and having different bloodlines and families, that make their blood and DNA of genes differ from each other.
if this does not happen, and the said royal cousins are very closely related even by their parents being siblings or like grandparents being siblings or whatever, then there are chances that a offspring will be born with certain side effects.
someone close to me when I was little, had some health like problems because of their parents who happen to be related....why no one stop them, I don’t know.
no lick of sense there if you ask me, at least their children had a lick of sense to marry outside the family.
you know whats great about being a “Demi-Royal”
not having to go through a arranged marriage.
I’m not even sure if some prince would accept that I refer to myself as “Gyno-Agender”, I mean yeah I still go by she/her, and it would be the same for a guy who still goes by he/him and identifies as “Andro-Agender”......
a person can be both Binary & Non-Binary.
even though the whole referring to the whole humanity as “Mankind” still irks me, as it is just so annoying after realizing that is only half right.
as Mankind refers to the “MALE” part of humanity
whilst the Womankind refers to the “WOMAN” part of humanity.
but together the neutral way to refer to both together, would be “Humankind”
and when you count flora, fauna and other forms of life with humanity
it might be right to use “Terrankind” or “Terrakind” or maybe “Earthkind”
(it needs work I guess...)
when speaking about humanity, flora, fauna and the other life forms of Earth.
even if it can still be okay to use words “oh man” and “oh boy” in some sense.
the whole humanity being Mankind, is still annoying because it really is just the Male Binary, and at least the Humankind is more of a neutral based to refer to both binary and non-binary of humanity.
but I know some will not accept this, and I’m not gonna make them.
they will have to accept it willingly and figure out that Mankind doesn’t include the female binary into it, but is still linked to the whole Humanity same as the Mankind part is.
being “Mankind” has nothing to do with the whole of humanity, only a small bit of it.
Mankind and Womankind are but two halves that make up Humankind.
separate they are just Mankind and Womankind, but together they are Humankind.
even though some might of thought Mankind just means every person that is human, it is only half true....like I said, it is only half of Humankind.
plus I prefer to just be called “Humankind” anyway, but even though some might not accept this truth, that is something that really cannot be helped.
but I think that some have realized this, but they shouldn’t force others to see it who still think Mankind refers to all humans when really it doesn’t.
Humankind refers to all humans of humanity, and if people refuse to see the truth that Mankind doesn’t mean all humans and it just refers to the male binary part of it, then it can’t really be helped.
best not force it.
and it is best not to, try to get someone to try to listen to you when you make a mistake when saying something of theirs reminds of you of other characters from another show....even though you weren’t being mean or sarcastic when talking about it, and you really loved how their work reminded you of them...
they still might take it the wrong way....
I doubt they even saw the other comments that showed how much I enjoyed their work....I even wrote a apology, but I’m not sure they have saw it yet.
even if they misunderstood, I really hope to work things out.
it is best to not try too hard to get someone who misunderstood your words, otherwise it can put you in a very dark place to which it is hard to get out.
even if things seem all sunshine and smiles at first, but if you think about it too much and let it get to you, your going to get too much bad feelings which will take sometime to go away fully.
I want to try to make sure what I say isn’t misinterpreted or mistaken as being mean when it isn’t.
and try to not let my hurt feelings take full control, when someone does something that crosses a line of their “view” which comes from a misinterpretation.
I know someone did that to me before, and it didn’t help they refuse to tell me what the source of the problem was and even made those threats that if I didn’t stop asking, they would block me once again...
like I explained before, before it first happen I remember being really upset and crying and I was going to take a look at their art, but with how I was feeling I was in no condition, so I went to bed. then when I woke up, I had found out they blocked me.
sure we had made up, but it was only by their demands....
even if it might of been the cause of a misunderstanding, and I have some thoughts of what caused it but I wont say it right now on here.
but there was other stuff that made me worried and upset during that time.
so what happen between us, was kind of the breaking point.
I don’t like fights not being solved the right way, or not telling the other party who had got over depression before, what they had done.
even if I did seem okay and was for a while after that stupid fight and making up, I still let what happen get to me too much.
I want to try to make sure something like that doesn’t happen again...
and because of another stupid misunderstanding, I am keeping some comments more short and not bring up how something makes me happy on how it reminds me of some characters from another show....
yeah my feelings were deeply hurt when my words were taken the wrong way, but I want to hope they will listen and accept my apology and it wont be like with that other person who wouldn’t even tell me what the source of the fight was.
and making me give into demands that only made them happy.
even if I was happy for some time, I did figure out what happen wasn’t right.
I want to try to make sure not to fall into that trap again, and yeah I have blocked that person who had me agree before about not asking them what the cause of them blocking me was or else they will block me again...
I want to try my best to not let that mess get to me too much, it does make me mad now.
I might consider talking to them again one day, but only if they give up that whole “not gonna tell ya and you should figure it out yourself” thing.
it isn’t just me, but I believe you shouldn’t do that to someone who had went through and got over depression because it could cause a worse one to form in it’s place.
even if that stupid fight never happen, I think I would of got better from all the other stuff that was making me upset and worried.
at least I think I figured out what the misunderstanding was this time with a whole different person.
but yeah I get misinterpreted a lot, and it does end up hurting my feelings pretty badly and when I do try to defend myself my hurt feelings of writing down my words tend to get really upset and I suppose it doesn’t reach a understanding at times.
the first apology I wrote that regarded a certain subject, I had to delete because it showed how badly it made me upset and I had let my hurt feelings of sadness take too much control.
so I had to write a new one, that I hope gets read sometime.
they don’t need to reply right away and I don’t mind giving them time to want to talk it out.
I made a mistake of trying to talk it out and trying to get to the source of a problem before, I’m not making that same mistake.
and I’m sure not going to make any demands of them, if I just give them time to realize the misunderstanding maybe things will be okay.
and I’m not gonna say what it is or who they are, some things are better left not fully said even on here.
I want to try my best to get people to stop misinterpreting my words.
even if some don’t do that and actually get what I’m trying to say.
there are still people who still misread what I try to say and take it the wrong way.
and it would appear when I talk about how something that I love about a person’s work reminds me of another show I love, it can be misinterpreted as being “mean” when really it isn’t.
I want to try to get people to stop misinterpreting what I say.
I know it wont be easy, and it might never stop, but I can only hope to say something that wont come off as what they think it is when it isn’t.
and even if some misinterpretations can be resolved and aren’t so bad,
it’s the really bad ones that get to me the most and I am sensitive to.
even though it isn’t very noticeable, I am a bit closed off.
well I do still talk to others, but I know have become a little closed off
but it might be a good thing it isn’t very noticeable, I still socialize but still kind of keep to myself.
even if some might not think that isn’t being closed off, I wont force them to see differently.
but I see myself as being a little closed off, which is a good thing in a way.
and well it doesn’t need to be seen as a bad thing, at times it be good to have some alone time to just give yourself time to just relax.
anyway back to that whole “Blue Blood” thing...
even though I knew about that whole back in the old days royal families would just marry inside the family, and I didn’t knew until now that the whole being Blue Blood involved it.
you don’t keep the royal bloodline pure by just marrying close relatives...
that isn’t keeping it pure...
but at least it isn’t like that now, at least I hope it isn’t.
I think I rather be a “Purple Blood” rather than a “Blue Blood” any day...
because after being told what Blue Blood really means,
it makes me thankful to be a Purple Blood...even if the blood wouldn’t really be purple, I hope some can understand what I mean by it.

Winner’s Curse Ch. 3
Note: There is an Aladdin series character people may or may not know named Sadira. Since I didn’t really explain her backstory or past in this chapter, here is a little wiki so people have an idea https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Sadira. Anyway, hope everyone enjoys.
Lonnie had decided to opt out of their  plan to spy on the meeting in order to stick with her training regime. But she made them promise to tell her about it later if they didn’t get caught. Technically, she asked Jay to promise to tell her later. Jordan was so sure they were an item.
But Lonnie and Jay’s potential coupledom wasn’t the issue now. Now was time to sneak into the air ducts and find their way above FG’s office.
It was sort of funny really.
The Sultan was a former petty thief, their kingdom was still rife with street rats and deliquets even though Sultana Jasmine had been enacting lots of new legislature to fix the issues, and here, the three most lucky (and in Aziz’s case, one of the richest) Agrabahians were wriggling into the air ducts of Auradon Prep like common criminals.
Jay and Aziz army crawled through th steel-ducts with ease despite their broad shoulders crushing them from both sides while Jordan crawled slowly in front, wishing that she had changed into pants before she had gotten in. Everytime she stopped to listen for adult voices in conversation Aziz’s face would crash against her butt.
At least it was better Aziz than Jay. It was enough that the sort of former thief spent time ogling her mother, he wasn’t going to get the pleasure of gazing at her ass this whole time too.
The air ducts were surprisingly very clean for a place that supposedly no one went into. The steel was as polished as Chad Charming’s spit-shined shoes and there wasn’t any evidence of rodent’s existence. Even though rodents were totally allowed on school grounds due to the future queens and princesses hoping to charm them with their beautiful voices or be used to help sew dresses.
The air ducts were also very loud in the sense that they could hear every pipe rushing with water or jiggling and the sounds of muffled voices through the walls.
It felt like an hour already with her knees cramping and she was sure that someone was going to come out of this looking like hunchback. But according to Jay’s sundial watch which she had some suspicion that he stole from Phil when the old stayr had visited to guest coach the tourney team, they had only been roaming the ducts for nine minutes.
“Are you sure we’re even going in the right direction, man?” Jay asked Aziz who swore he knew the air ducts like the back of his hand after he spending all his study halls up in the ducts instead of studying chemistry.
“Yes.” Aziz said tersely, “We just go straight then right at the sound of rushing water then take another left and straight. We should be hearing them very soon. It’s impossible to get lost.”
“If you say so” Jay sing-songed and Jordan could hear Aziz mutter swears under his breath. Even though Aziz and Jay hit it off better than the other Aks had with the spawn of their parent’s enemies, Aziz did have his issues with Jay.
Like his arrogance, his aggressiveness, his kleptomania, the way he took every angry comment as a compliment for him... Okay maybe those were the things she disliked about him.
But she did know that Aziz disliked Jay’s arrogance. It was less about Jay, himself but more about Aziz’s own jealousy. Even though the Agrabhaian prince seemed easygoing and confident, Jordan knew that he overanalyzed everything in his head and then texted her about it. Almost every study period. Since Jay came sauntering in the halls with his leather jacket, Aziz had been asking her that when they were together did Jay look tougher than him? Did he look weak and nervous?
Then there was the thief factor. Yes, Auradon was all about the goodness  and stealing and other sorts of crimes were frowned upon and harshly punished, Aziz still aspired to be a good “sleight of hand.”
Aladdin had taught all his children his old tricks from his street rat days even though he warned them that they were never allowed to use it for their personal gain or in public.
Then Jay came along and it was hard to ignore how Jafar’s son was so very similar to Aladdin. Charming, a thief, could talk his way out of almost anything.
No one had said it Aziz’s face that Jay seemed more like Aladdin’s son than he but one can easily surmise that. While Aziz was forced to obey the royal protacle set out for him and not cause any political disasters, Jay was free to do what he wanted, looking like a mini-Aladdin more and more.
And now Jay was implying that Aziz didn’t know how to go through air ducts without getting lost which she knew Aziz was going to take as a dig that Aziz didn’t inherit Aladdin’s skill.
It seemed like they all had their daddy issues here.
Jordan was so consumed with her thoughts that she crawled right into the air duct vent, smashing her nose and getting her caught in all the tiny slits. It took all her discipline not to cry out from the unexpected pain.
“We’re here.” Jordan softly announced through gritted teeth as she tried to untangle her hair without making the vent noisily shake, she took the chance to observe the crowd of people crushed into FG’s tiny office.
FG’s office was a pristine sky blue color with a large oak desk situated near the clear-glass window that had gave view to the picturesque garden that she cared for outside her office. Usually it was warm and homey since FG added small touches like floral bouquets tied to the corners and eves, but now it was stocked with more people than the office could hold and it looked chaotic and disorganized.
Plastic chairs had been brought in, ruining the classy vibe the office usually emitted and the none of the people there looked very happy.
Aurora’s three fairy-godmothers were sitting uncomfortably in the plastic chairs on either side of FG’s desk, arguing among themselves with FG in the middle trying to get their attention. Even though the four women were about the same age there was a drastic difference between FG’s younger look and Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather’s choice to appear in the same plump human forms they had used when they were taking care of baby Aurora.
The great Camelot wizard, Merlin was by the doorway holding a fishbowl in his hand and seemed to be talking animatedly with the fish inside until Mama Odie accidentally hit him in the head with her walking stick when she angrily waved her arms about.
The Blue Fairy and a human-sized, Queen Clarion stood in the middle of the room taking in the sights and sounds around them, looking regal as always though both no longer had their unearthly fairy glow, making them look a bit more sad than Jordan assumed that they were.
Jordan easily spotted her parents, the only two in the room who looked halfway amused by the situation as they casually lounged on FG’s couch that was usually pulled out when a student needed a personal therapist.
Her dad was in his human form, not much different from his genie one. He had on harem pants, a silk blue vest and and curled shoes, looking that he should be in the hot deserts of Agrabah instead of in button-up Auradon. She wondered if FG had another one of her freak-outs when she saw her dad walk in again without a shirt.
At least Sadira was dressed appropriately for the Auradon weather in a green sundress, looking absolutely confused as to what was going on and distracted whenever Genie tried to include her into the conversation.
Jordan tried to listen to the conversation but it was pretty hard with all the overlapping voices and FG’s repeated shouts for “Everyone, please use your inside voices. Please, the students are in class. We have to talk about this civilly.”
Jordan heard a few key phrase like King Beast and the barrier but not much else when she felt a irate poke on her butt.
“Uh glad to know we got here. But we can’t see or hear anything.” Aziz grumbled.
“Oh yeah.” Jordan winced, realizing how boring it must be for the guys to have nothing to look out but each other’s backsides.
She glanced out the vent again to make sure no one was looking up at that moment to see puffs of pink smoke as she used her magic to widen the ducts so the three of them could look out the vent slits shoulder to shoulder.
“You couldn’t have done this before when we were crawling through?” Jay whispered as he pressed his face against the slits.
“I. . . didn’t think of that at the time.” Jordan admitted. It was an issue, living with all these mortals made her forget that she could use her powers to fix inconveniences like this.
“ENOUGH!!” FG shouted, startling everyone in the room and the three teens that they almost hit their heads against the air duct ceiling. They never heard FG sound like she was reaching the end of her rope before.
“Let’s review the situation, calmly, civilly.” FG said through clenched teeth through Jordan could see a bead of sweat drop trail from her forehead as she made eye contact with each figure in the room.
“King-I mean Prince- I mean. Well Adam doesn’t want us to bother King Ben about the Isle’s Coven. He feels like his son would be too overwhelmed by the situation.” FG said.
“WHAT?! Not tell the king? The villains could take over again if this Coven manages to break down the barrier. And we’re supposed to not stress him about this sort of danger?” Merlin cried, holding his fishbowl like it was a sword, he jabbed the air to make his point and caused water to spill all over Queen Clarion’s dress.
“I know. But he still a boy.We have to report to Adam instead and he said it will be tricky to find a way to fix this.He said that it is a slippery slope. IF he allows us to use magic to fix the barrier and keep the villains at bay, then he would have to make concessions and then everyone would be using magic again and the whole point of the Magic Ban would be moot.” FG sighed.
“That is brilliant. I say we do that idea.” Genie clapped and the sound of bodiless applause filled the room while others like Mama Odie, Flora, Fauna and Merryweather nodded in agreement.
FG aimed a withering glare to them, “I know you have made no effort to obey the Magic Ban, but if you would look around you, it has been very helpful. People are putting their work and effort into things instead of using magic as a shortcut. It keeps law and order. We have seen what happens when magic is used wrongly. Need I remind you of Jafar? The Magic Ban is right. The Magic Ban is-”
“But the villains aren’t going to follow our Magic Ban so it makes no point.” Merryweather cut in, “We are all good people. We all use our magic responsibly and to help others. The Magic Ban is only hurting us. It is making us deny who we are.”
“All for some royal brats who think we would beat them in some competition that doesn’t exist. But Fairy Godmother, you cannot say you enjoy this sort of life. You were able to help so many with your magic. You can’t say you would have made Cinderella’s dreams come true with some sewing supplies.” Mama Odie added.
FG stuttered something incomprehensible, clearly flustered with how this conversation was veering into her personal feelings which now that Jordan thought about it, she didn’t know much about FG’s feelings towards the Magic Ban. Sure, FG always seemed to follow King Beast’s lead and espouse how wonderful the Magic Ban was for the kingdom but it seemed like she had her doubts about it too.
“Let’s focus on the Coven. How are we going to stop them?” FG abruptly said. “FG, you do know that we are going to have break the rules if we are to stop the Coven.” Fauna placed a comforting hand on FG’s shoulder.
“I- But.” FG stammered, “We have to follow the laws. That is the right thing to do. I told Adam I would find a lawful solution.”
Sadira ignored FG’s words as she launched into her own solution, “I was thinking we could join together and remake the barrier again. It would take some time since we are all pretty out of practice. I know my strength isn’t what it used to be at least, but if we do it over the next couple of months. Maybe we can get the barrier back to its full strength.”
“But what about the villains inside?” The Blue Fairy questioned, “They are probably are using their powers as we speak to break it from inside. We don’t have a couple of months, we need a solution now.”
“Well who is in this Coven? How competent are they with magic? Because if it is Mad Madam Mim again, we can just sicken her with measles.” Merlin suggested.
“No, no Madam Mim.” FG managed to speak. “According to the goblins that gave us this have been taking trash back and forth from the Isle. It’s the Coven of Thirteen as they call themselves. And it’s ranks include, Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Queen Nerissa, Ursula, Mother Gothel, Jafar, Nasira, Mozonroth, Yzma, Morgaine Le Fey, Dr. Facilier, Circe, and Queen La.”
The room went silent at the list of intimidating villains.
Jordan side-eyed the two guys next to her and saw that their faces were similar to her own. Jaws dropped and eyes wide. Those thirteen had their powers back?
“And the Blue Fairy is right. Cassandra of Delphi unfortunately couldn’t come today but her vision implied we didn’t have much time.” FG said solemnly.
None of the adults in the room moved, they all seemed frozen in place by the new revelation.
“I suppose we should reconvene next week about this . . . situation.” FG said and all the adults slowly ushered themselves out, whispering among themselves.
Once the door closed, FG sat at her desk and put her head in her hands, looking small and exhausted. When she had suggested that they eavesdrop on this meeting she never thought it would be about something so serious. Her stomach clenched as her mind turned over FG’s words, “We don’t have much time.”

Endless Summer, Chapter 3/44 - Small talk is for small minds
That night, I was haunted by that dream again.
“Stay down! It’s coming this way!” warned Sean.
“Taylor! Give me your hand!” said Jake.
“You don’t understand yet… do you?” taunted Everett Rourke. “Of course not. But you will… in time.”
But this time, there was something else. At the end of the dream, I was being stalked by a predator. I turned around, but before I could see who, or what, was following me, I woke up, sweating.
Feeling hungry, and it being eight o’clock already, I made my way to the restaurant to have breakfast.
When I entered the restaurant, I saw that Grace, Aleister and Zahra were sat together at one table, Sean and Craig at another, and Michelle and Quinn at another. Jake and Raj sat at the bar, close to the other students. All of them were talking to each other.
Estela sat on her own, a fair distance away from everyone else, but still watching (and listening to) them. Lila and Diego hadn’t arrived yet.
They were all having breakfast, in the form of a buffet cooked by Raj, which included bacon, scrambled eggs, toast and a mixture he called the ‘Raj Hangover Special 9000’.
The conversations died out as soon as everyone noticed I was there. They turned to face me.
“Hey!” said Jake, smiling. “If it isn’t the boy scout who cried monster.”
“Yeah, Taylor, you shot down the party faster than the cops back home.” Raj complained.
“That’s what you care about?” Estela asked him, furiously. “Don’t you realise that if there were a predator, Taylor could’ve gotten hurt? Or killed?”
I was about to apologise to everyone for lowering the mood last night, when I realised something... Estela was right! My life was far more important than their party. And I was going to defend myself.
“Estela’s right. If you want an apology for last night, that’s not gonna happen.” I told everyone, Jake and Raj especially. “I’m not going to pretend everything’s okay. Regardless of whether I saw something last night or not, there is something going on in this island, and we need to find out exactly what that is.”
“I was only tryna lighten the mood...” said Raj, despondently. Everyone gave me annoyed looks, but Estela looked at me, impressed... with admiration.
I grabbed some breakfast, and sat at the table with Grace, Aleister and Zahra. I would’ve sat with Diego, however, had he been here.
“I found something really interesting at the beach this morning.” Grace told us.
“Already, nerdette, you have 60 seconds ‘till I die of boredom. What did you find?” Zahra asked her.
“Well, I was walking on the beach this morning, and found some sea shells that I’ve never seen before.” she explained. “I even went back to my room to look them up in my marine biology textbook, but... nothing. I couldn’t find anything close to them-”
“Hold up.” Zahra interupted her. “You brought your textbooks on holiday?”
“Um, yes?”
“Congrats.” said Zahra, sarcastically. “You’re officially the dorkiest person I’ve ever met.”
Aleister exhaled deeply.
“What a sad world we live in.” he lemented. “Seeking to be informed is deemed ‘dorky’ by today’s youth. I, for one, find Grace bringing her textbooks commendable.”
“You do?” Grace smiled at him, which caused Aleister to blush.
“Well, I... I do. O-of course.” replied Aleister, flustered.
“I agree. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with bringing your textbooks on holiday.” I spoke to reduce the resulting awkwardness for Aleister.
It was then that Lila and Diego entered the restaurant, looking somewhat triumphant. Diego sat down next to me, and Lila stood at the front to address us.
“Good morning, everyone!” Lila greeted us. “I hope you’re enjoying breakfast in our 5-star restaurant! Diego and I were searching the reception area, and we think we’ve figured out what happened to the hotel guests!”
She paused for a few seconds, and looked at us expectandly, as if expecting us to answer, or clap... or maybe she was just creating tension.
“Spit it out then, dimples.” said Jake, impatiently.
“Well, on the evening the day before yesterday, someone triggered the emergency evacuation procedure!” she told us. “It’s a custom feature in Rourke International Hotels to protect our guests from natural disasters!”
I looked out the restaurant window and saw a volcano at the far end of the island.
“When you say natural disaster, do you mean a volcanic eruption?” I asked Lila, which sparked an outburst of energy from her.
“Yes! Precisely!” she beamed. “If Mount Atropo were to erupt, all our hotel guests would be burnt to ashes!”
“Why do you sound happy about that?” asked a stunned Zahra. I found it slightly funny that Lila’s over-cheeriness was having the same effect on Zahra as Zahra’s gloominess had on Lila.
“Look, I know nothing about geology, or science in general.” Jake confessed. “But I’m pretty sure there wasn’t an eruption two days ago.”
"We have a designated shelter on the island, for our hotel guests, in case something like that happens.” Lila explained.
“Then the hotel guests may still be there.” Estela uncharacteristically spoke up. “This shelter... where is it, Lila?”
“I don’t know.” Lila confessed. “But the signs on the trail say we’ll find it if we hike east for five kilometres!”
“I’m going to find it.” Jake decided. “There’s a good chance Carlos will be at the shelter, and while you lot may be having fun playing Home Alone 2: Island Boogaloo, I’m losing money every day I’m stuck here. Are you joining me, boy scout?”
I hesitated, weighing up my curiosity versus my experience last night with the predator. Realising my uncertainty, Jake spoke up.
“You don’t have to come, if you’re still shaken. Stay here and-”
“I’m coming.” I interrupted him, quickly, before he could say something that would change my mind.
“Really? Why?” Diego asked me.
“I want to find out what’s going on.” I replied. “I mean, aren’t you a little curious as to why the hotel guests went to the shelter, when the volcano clearly didn’t erupt?”
“Well, yes, I’m curious.” Diego admitted. “But I’ve also, you know, seen a horror movie.”
He tried to put on a sarcastic voice, but it didn’t work nearly as well on him as it did on Jake or Zahra.
“Hey, guys! Let’s go to this creepy shelter on an abandoned island! What could possibly go wrong?”
“But I’m going with you, Taylor. So if anything goes wrong, I can say that I told you so.”
“I’m going too.” Aleister announced. “I’d like to get the lay of the land around here.”
“Me too!” Quinn joined in. “There are waterfalls on the island, which sound perfect to me right about now.”
Twenty minutes later, after finishing breakfast, Lila, Jake, Diego, Aleister, Quinn and I were hiking to the shelter. We passed some odd flowers, ones that glowed, probably what Grace was referring to when she said that the island had rare flora.
Lila, who saw me observing the flowers, couldn’t help but fall into one of her tour guide speeches.
“Due to its geographical isolation, La Huerta has one of the most unique ecoystems in the world, with flora and fauna not found anywhere else in the whole world!”
Jake couldn’t help but smile. “Sure thing, Minnie Mouse. Recite Rourke International propaganda all you want. I ain’t buying any of it.”
“What do you mean by that?” asked Aleister.
“I mean that all the leaflets for La Huerta advertise it as a Disney Paradise.” Jake replied. “But if you drink in the right bars in Costa Rica, you’ll hear all sorts of rumours about what really goes on here. Employees going missing, illegal experiements, etc.”
“That is preposterous.” snapped Aleister.
“I’m not going to let some conspiracy theories stop me from enjoying the beauty of nature.” said Quinn, plucking a particularly radiant purple flower and holding it to her nose, inhaling deeply.
I, however, inexplicably found myself beliving Jake. I stepped away from the flowers.
“I’m not sure what to believe, but better safe than sorry.” I told the others. “Unique ecosystem or not, flowers should not glow like that.”
“I knew I could count on you, boy scout.” said Jake, before turning to face Quinn. “As for you, Pippi Longstocking... don’t blame me when you grow two noses.”
We walked on, and I found myself walking next to Aleister. Despite his antisocial and offputting personality, I decided to try and make small talk with him.
“Hey, Aleister, have you seen any good TV shows recently?” I asked him.
“Does it look like I’ve been accepted for a Master’s degree in law because I spend my days watching reality TV about overly-tanned simpletons?” he snapped back.
“I’m just trying to make small talk.” I told him.
“Small talk is for small minds, Taylor. And I don’t associate myself with either of them.” Aleister told me.
I turned away, thinking that was the end of the conversation, but Aleister went on.
“My father never believed I had what it takes to get a PhD.” Aleister continued. “Despite my flashes of academic brilliance, including, but not limited to, Level 6s in my SATs, 10 A*s at GCSE and 3 A*s at A Levels. So that’s why I only tolerate intelligence, Taylor - because after my Master’s, I’m going to get my PhD, and prove that bastard wrong.”
“You’re an intelligent young man, Aleister.” I complimented him. “If anyone can get a PhD, it’s you.”
Aleister just blinked. “I know.”
We reached the shelter about an hour later. Lila pushed open the doors, revealing it to be as abandoned as The Celestial.
The left wall had mostly crumbled away, revealing a large hole. I cautiously approached it... and involuntarily screamed when something jumped out of it!
That something was a blue fox, who, panicked, ran to the far corner of the shelter. Frost formed on the wall behind him.
“He-hello?” I asked the fox, stunned and not sure what to say or do.
“Can we agree that’s not a real animal?” asked Jake.
“What... is it?” asked a confused Aleister.
“Um, literally the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.” replied Quinn, beaming.
“But what is he scared of?” asked Diego.
I didn’t have much time to make sense of the situation, because when I looked back into the hole, some eyes had suddenly appeared - the same predator that I saw last night!
The predator, which turned out to be a tiger, leaped out and started to approach the fox!
“That!” replied Aleister. “It’s scared of that!”
“You think?” Lila asked him, sarcastically.
“Maverick, what do we do?” I asked Jake, figuring that he was the one here most able to deal with the situation.
But for the first time, I saw him scared.
“Don’t... move.” he managed.

Sanjay Van - Tourist or Haunted Place? Read it here📷
https://www.livingwithabhi.com/post/design-a-stunning-blog
The ends of the week are for city backwoods. This weekend I visited Sanjay Van which is 443 sections of land of woods close to Vasant Kunj and Mehrauli in Delhi and the city's green lungs. Loaded up with thick timberlands it's a beautiful spot to travel! The forest also has its medicinal forest part. Children and tourists visit especially there to appreciate its beauty and learn about flora. Delhi is a populated city and with less greenery around.
I truly can't get over how nature can flourish in the midst of such a lot of contamination yet I suppose that is who she is a power who can flourish anyplace we offer her the chance to.
This is the reason it's so significant for us to greenify any space we can get our hands on, be it an overhang, a window sill, or even a local area park.
Maintenance by DDA: The flora and fauna in Sanjay Van were depleting fast, which raised the concern for its restoration. Due to this reason, the forest is currently going under restoration through a collaborative effort of a citizen’s group called Working with Nature and Delhi Development Authority (DDA). Since 2010, DDA has been working to bring the forest to its original form.
Sanjay Van Lakes Or Ponds
Lake/Ponds: There is a lake built in Sanjay Van. The lake is around mid-route into the backwoods. It is a fake lake made only a couple of years back. There was polluted water before the making of the lake. Afterward, the water was redirected and the lake was made. There are even ducks at the spot now so it appears to be engaging.
The Sanjay Van in Delhi covers a region of 443 sections of land. It is fanned out in an enormous territory wealthy in different sorts of vegetation.
The Sanjay Van in Delhi has five lakes in it. The main lake gets water from Neela Hauz Lake and treated sewage from Vasant Kunj Sewage Treatment Plant. The water from lake one at that point moves through lake two, three, and four lastly arrives at lake five. The water from lake five travels through channel lines to Hauz Khas Lake where it is utilized for sporting purposes.
Doors in Sanjay Van
There are in all-out five entryways to Sanjay Van.
The primary Sanjay Van passage door is in the southwest region close to Jawaharlal Nehru University.
The subsequent door is close to Gorakhnath sanctuary and one needs to go for 1.370km.
The third door is close to Rockland clinic and travel from that point is around 1.70km.
The movement from the fourth entryway is around 3.170km.
The fifth entryway is close to TB medical clinic.
Spots To Visit In Sanjay Van
Lookout: There is a watching tower in the woodland to appreciate the grand magnificence from the top view. It is useful for bird watching and getting a charge out of the excellence around. Likewise, guests can appreciate bird watching from that point.
Lakes/Ponds: There are wonderful lakes and Ponds around the woodland which are wealthy in common excellence. One can visit there and appreciate the place with friends and family.
Mayur Pahari: There is a spot in Sanjay Van around 200 to 300 meters from entryway number 3 called Mayur Pahari. Guests typically go there and live it up. They click photographs there and have picnics. They can even appreciate rock moving there as there are a few rocks at this spot. A few groups particularly visit there for a photo shoot too. In any event, wedding photography happens at that particular site.
Mehrauli Medical woodland: The timberland has an assorted assortment of therapeutic plants. Accordingly, an exceptional arrangement has been set to mindful guests about them. This spot is close by door number 4 that is close to Qutub Minar. The Mehrauli Medical backwoods guide leads toward two different ways: the one is towards the middle intersection of the timberland and the subsequent one prompts the primary traffic circle of the TB clinic.
Activities In Sanjay Van
Here, we have enrolled a portion of the exercises that one can appreciate in Sanjay Van:
Cycling: One can do cycling inside the woodland while getting a charge out of the magnificence of nature.
Birds watching: Sanjay Van is a perfect spot for bird sweethearts. There are assortments of birds that can be found in the woods. Some uncommon cases can likewise be seen there.
Rock climbing: Visitors can likewise appreciate rock moving at Mayur Pahari. There are a few rocks at the spot and one can appreciate it there.
City View: Another pleasant thing about Sanjay Van is one can appreciate the city from the lookout. The delightful nature around and city is itself a decent mix.
How Might One Reach Sanjay Van?
There are two different ways to arrive at Sanjay Van for example by street or metro.
By street: The backwoods is arranged on the Delhi-Nainital street. One can take either a transport or taxi to reach there. Another choice is to pass by your own vehicle. One can leave the vehicle before entryway number three that is close to Rockland medical clinic.
By Metro: There are three closest metro stations to Sanjay Van Delhi, inside the scope of two kilometers.
Qutub Minar Metro station
RK Puram Metro station
Saket Metro station
In the event that one is passing by his own vehicle, he can leave it before door number three close to Rockland emergency clinic.
Timing: Sanjay Van passage timing is opening up at 6:00 am. There are watches on the entryways around evening time so nobody can enter.
Open days: The Sanjay Van is open for the entire week that is including Sunday.
Is Sanjay Van A Haunted Place?
The Sanjay Van is viewed as one of the spooky spots in Delhi. There is a tale about Sanjay Van in Delhi. It is accepted that there are graves of Sufi holy people in the woods and furthermore broken bulwarks of Qila Rai Pithora. Nearby individuals say that they have felt the presence of something around them. Some additionally guarantee that they have listened to giggling and cries out of nowhere when they are separated from everyone else in the woods. A few groups even say that they have seen a woman in a white saree who vanishes noticeably all around out of nowhere.
The Sanjay Van Delhi frequented story is that there is a street going through the timberland. Individuals have seen a woman dressed in white around it who looks for help. She possibly shows up around evening time and the insane part is on the off chance that somebody stops, she disappears noticeably all around. She is seen strolling through the backwoods or sitting along the street requesting a lift. A few groups even say that they have seen her pursuing their vehicles in the event that they don't stop for lift. The spookiest of everything is that a few groups say that they have seen her sitting on the tree above and taking a gander at them with her dead and cold eyes. However, there is no strong confirmation of the presence of apparitions there. It very well may be a fantasy also.
Conclusion
It is hard to go through the entire backwoods in one single day. Be that as it may, one ought to clearly set aside effort to value the magnificence of nature. Now and then, between the traffic and blockage, it's difficult to take a full breath and notice the indigenous habitat of Delhi, to perceive what's changed as the city has developed or what's undermined by that change.
Truth be told, the Delhi district is one of mind-blowing regular excellence, and biodiversity, on the off chance that you pause and set aside the effort to look, and Sanjay Van, is the excellent yet ignored green space in the core of the city.
There is such a lot of variety in Delhi, and the more we know, the more we can do to ensure the fragile equilibrium that keeps the climate spotless and sound. So take a stab at going for an early morning stroll to Sanjay Van, and see it for yourself!

It’s been an extraordinary ride since we lost our beautiful forest home on 3 December 2019 to the beast that was the Currowan fire that took 312 homes and consumed 500,000 hectares. It has taken time to reach this point of writing. I scribbled here and there but only in the last month have found a place from which I can write. We are moving slowly but intently towards recovery - which feels like the right sentiment to bring to this blog. Not my anger as ferocious as a bushfire about governments and organisations that contribute to bushfires through negligence or inaction. Aerial firefighting equipment could have been a game changer on 26 November when the Currowan fire ignited by lightning in drought ravaged forest. The fire was all but inaccessible to fire trucks that were almost futile in the absence of water to replenish them. But the federal government now famously didn’t listen to fire chiefs in May or November. Additional aerial support was approved on December 5, too little too late for us. The State Forestry Corporation will shortly receive a letter from me asking why a forest can be logged then the uncommercial debris (approximately 2/3 of the tree) be left to cure in the sun for 2 years to become the perfect bushfire conductor towards and through our block. But ahem, I’m not writing from this angry place, or I would write about the delays and disorganisation of governments, agencies and organisations as they grapple with a disaster of geographical and time magnitude they had never prepared for. I am not writing from the sludge of post adrenaline exhaustion caused by two evacuations and 6 weeks of fire threat, compounded by the mental energy required to manage my grief as well as my children’s, and sealed by the physical demands of renovating our investment property that needed to be fast tracked for habitation. After a Melbourne Christmas escape we also endured 8 days of stress returning via a circuitous journey of bush fire avoidance in order to finally return to our new residence. During the journey there were anxious days when we couldn’t contact our dog’s kennel, which is located in a particularly badly impacted bushfire area. Eventually we made contact and learned the kennel and our dog narrowly survived. That return journey brought additional tiredness but critically more instability to children’s minds, something we are struggling to manage still. Nor will I write this blog about the deep sadness I feel at the loss of trees, animals and habitat. I, who like many people on the south coat, choose to live here to be connected to nature and experience its beauty, initially found the flora and fauna loss completely overwhelming. My daily commute through at least 50km of which was burnt out forest and villages, initially was too much for me to bear, my workplace supported me to work locally. Quite apart from our forest including the favourite 300+ year old ‘grandmother’ spotted gum, the extent of the impact on the south cost forests and wildlife is immense and while epicormic regrowth is already occurring, wildlife and habitat recovery looks precarious. It’s brutal but I can’t write from this place. And I won’t write dwelling on loss of things miniature and enormous, trivial and significant, useful or valuable. Each item is a stitch in the tapestry of our former life. We still periodically feel a stab of remembrance when another thing is realised as lost. A wedding dress, a mother’s gold, favourite snowboard gear, treasures from world travels, Santa’s homemade toy cupboard, a hard earned black belt, a bifold door, our own milled timber, a barely used split system, children’s birthday books, our solar power array & batteries. Many things are easy to relinquish but some tug at the heart or mind. The night my sister in law returned my husband’s beads which she unwittingly had in safe keeping, or when I found I had indeed packed my husband’s wedding ring were insanely emotional moments. But at the end of the day things are things. While I am disappointed I don’t have my wedding dress, I’m really glad I didn’t pay to dry clean it, and practically it’s less important than a saucepan or a vegetable peeler. The more painful loss is our home, painstaking and lovingly made beautiful and comfortable by my amazing husband. Even he sighs at the prospect of beginning again. But we endure beyond property and things so I won’t write about this. So if I’m not writing in anger, exhaustion, sadness or grief, why have I included all of the above? Because, you can’t appreciate recovery until you understand loss. And this is the perspective I am writing from - recovery. My family’s recovery is predominantly due to the generosity of others. This generosity, which is still coming, and still brings me to tears, has enabled us to be living in a house, importantly in our own space, and starting the process of creating a new normal. The support has been wide ranging from the immediate shelter provided by amazing friends during evacuation, through to tradies and friends helping us get into our house in those first few weeks, then astoundingly generous physical and monetary gifts and presents from family, extended family, friends and their families, my workplace and our phenomenal community. There were three angels who started a gofundme page for us – the angels didn’t ask me, they thought I would say no, so they asked my husband and then told me it was for my kids so had me cornered. The page generated staggering donations from people near and far, known and unknown. Family and that page gave us the financial means to finish renovating the rental property which has now become our new home. Some of you reading may be one of our generous donors – thank you from the bottom of my heart. Key also for recovery, we both had jobs and incomes to go back to. Many in our region are not so fortunate. Many were vulnerable before the fires, they are even more vulnerable now. Recovery centres are still open along the south coast and the need is great. Slowly the help is coming and councils and agencies do recognise the road is long and are working on support for the long haul. We have been back to our block only twice. Mainly this was due to practical reasons – initially it wasn’t safe and then we didn’t have time as we were too busy renovating. The first visit was hard, intense and overwhelming. We went to witness destruction and loss. As my 6 year old marvelled, it’s all gone down to nothing. The second visit was purposeful, we wanted to explore the rest of our block and see if the rainforest gully had survived. Two months had elapsed since our first visit. We were a bit nervous about how it might impact our mental health being back, but staying away wasn’t ideal either. We promised the boys we wouldn’t be near the house for long and that we would explore the block. Thankfully it turned into a healing visit. While still confronting, the burnt out home didn’t bring the same horror as the first visit. Wonderfully we discovered tomatoes and strawberries growing in our veggie patch! We brought them back to Mollymook to be the first plants in a new veggie garden. The rainforest gully had sadly been completely burnt out, but I cried with relief to see fern fronds emerging from black stumps. Due to the absence of vegetation we could actually explore the gully like we had never been able to before. And best of all, with the significant rain we had in February, the creek was running through the gully - it was clear, rocky and beautiful. The rest of the block had been burnt, but many trees were fluffy with newly sprouting shiny green leaves. So what’s next for us? People ask, will we go back? Will we rebuild? Will our house build be different? Answers: Yes. Yes. And yes. It’s one step at a time. We’re still in the queue for the clean-up with everyone else. But in the meantime we will probably get a shed up and we’ve been given an onsite cabin so we will work towards an interim but movable habitable space. We can’t afford financially or mentally to lose everything again. But we want to get back onto our land and it would be very handy to get some holiday rental income from the Molly house. When things are settled and the world is back to normal we will sell our investment property and commence the subdivision and house build. It’s definitely a marathon not a sprint. We think we will have the means and the energy to achieve it. Plenty of blog opportunities ahead! Right now we are living in the right now. We are missing the treechange but we are still living the seachange intent of our move from the city. Mollymook isn’t our first choice, but it’s still a lovely place to live - after school beach visits are easy and the boys are loving that. We are exceedingly fortunate to have this house – it was without a doubt the best decision we made last year. It is an adjustment to come from 72 acres and only one house in sight on the hill above us, to a goldfish bowl backyard with houses all around. Gradually the feeling of being on display is subsiding, feeling hemmed in is not. Fortunately it’s a quiet road so we’re not too disturbed by traffic. Gradually we are getting used to the streetlight across the road. We have an especially lovely neighbour and her youngest son is a regular and welcome visitor. The boys still go to their same school and in fact I drive them past school and out of town to catch the bus from their old bus stop as it’s on the way to work and is 20 minutes closer to the office. I have sadly gained an extra 40mins per day commute time. Some bush habits haven’t changed, in the shower I still start washing my feet in the cold water before it runs hot – preserving rain water will be a hard habit to lose. Being back on the power grid is a novelty, sometimes I put the dishwasher and the washing machine on at the same time, and at night! Few readers powered by the grid will have understood the significance of that sentence – night time appliance use - got it? OK never mind. It is recovery, but it’s fragile. We are up skilling on child psychology and parenting big time. I probably started writing this blog a month ago, when a new virus wasn’t worrying that many people. Right now everyone’s worrying and for our community it feels like a body blow. We’ve experienced disaster, we know the feeling of the world being upside down because nowhere feels safe. We’re exhausted, we need to connect, but that is being denied us. How will we all cope with this? Hopefully the same way we coped with the bushfires, with the help of friends, family, community. To those of you reading who helped us in this recovery, thank you. It means everything to us. In the midst of the fires I used to end conversations with, “Keep safe”. Now I say to you, “Keep healthy”.

ABDULLAH A. AMAIKURUT II
Food Review
The Peri Peri chicken is one of the newest chicken house here in Iligan. This one in the picture is one of their branch at Robinsons Place, Iligan City. As far as I am concerned, I had a good dining experience with them. They told me that the chicken would be serve in 15 minutes and just like they said in less than 15 minutes my order had been served.
However I have noticed things and wished that this restaurant will do or implement in order to improve more. First of all is that they should have brought service water during the time their customers wait for their orders in order to make sure that their customers would not get tired of waiting since they have something that can quench their thirst. Second is that I hope the price for their drinks will decreased since 35 pesos alone is pretty much expensive along with 100 pesos of chicken especially for students. I hope they would have combo meals that would be much cheaper. Lastly, as a maranao and Filipino, I hope that there would be chilis in the table since we would love to mix them with the sauce and in order to add more flavor. Overall, I had a quite nice experience and hopefully they would implement some of the listed things above soon.
Movie Review
For me the movie “COCO” is one of the most underrated movie this year I think it is because of the trailer which is not quite as good as the movie itself. Honestly, it thought that it would be a movie with a cliché story plots just like other Disney animated films. However, it was not what I expected the story was full plot twists, it shows how death could really affect a family especially if they have committed a mistake in the past. The movie also emphasizes the love of each family member for one another an example is the story of Hector and his family where they thought Hector had abandoned them where in fact he was murdered by his best friend Mr. Dela Cruz. One of the best scenes that emphasizes the love of Hector for his daughter is when he wrote a song for her which was sung by Miguel to his great grand mother(Coco). It was a heart melting scene for me since all the time Coco would not speak due to old age and because of the song of his father she was able to recall everything especially the love of his father. As for Miguel I loved how he pursue his love and passion for music even though many people tried to stop him which is also his family members but still he chose to fight in what he believe which is a hard thing to do in the very first place, Overall, I love everything from this movie from the graphics and especially the ost which is very good. For me it shows that a person may lose a loved one but not his/her love for that person.
(Book Review) The Magician’s Nephew
Author:
By C.S Lewis
 Summary of the plot
The novel is all about how the land of Narnia was and created and how evil takes over the land. The book includes plenty magical series and it depicts the battle between good and evil.
The story begins when Digory and Polly meet and become friends one cold, wet summer in London. While the children attempted to get into an empty house which happens to be the house of Digory’s Uncle, Uncle Andrew Ketterly, the children happen to see yellow and green rings on a table in the house. Uncle Andrew decided to offer a ring to Polly. At the moment she touches it, she suddenly disappeared. Digory was then told that the rings happen to be special and that they were made from magic dust. He was told that the yellow rings allow a person to be transported to other world while the green rings has the ability to bring a person back to the present time. Due to the fact that Polly does not have the green ring, Digory must use one of the yellow rings for him to be able to bring back Polly.
Eventually Digory was able to find Polly in a place called Wood between Worlds. The pair then decided to explore the space which allows them to explore different kinds of worlds. They found themselves standing in a place known as the Charn. Charn is a place in where no life can be found. However, the two still decided to explore and ended up at the Hall of Images. They have found out that there is a bell with a warning at the hall. Despite the warning, Digory still rang the bell which causes the awakening of the Queen as soon as she was awake the building started to fall down and ended up being destroyed.
Digory and Polly learned that it was the Queen’s fault in why the Charn’s been ruined and because of her greediness and thirst of power she killed her sister and everyone in the Charn. The children are frightened and tried to go back to London but the Queen had managed to grab a hold of them and was transported to London as well. The Queen had cause chaos and destruction in the entire London. She told Uncle Andrew about her plans of taking over the whole world and later on steals the jewelry as well as the horse and the carriage. Due to how complicated the situation is, Digory and Polly uses the ring to transport the Queen which was also called the witch but the problem was that all of them was touching the ring and they all ended up at a strange and dark place. Later on, they heard a voice singing which comes from a large lion. Horrified, the witch managed to escape and runs away. As the song is continuously sung flora and fauna had also appeared from the earth.
The lion who was called Aslan, instructs some of the animals to protect Narnia. Digory followed Aslan to know if the witch has already entered Narnia. He was then commanded to bring Cabby’s wife to tell the couple that they will be the rulers of the land.  Digory was then given a mission to go and help protect Narnia. He was ordered to go to a hilltop garden to get an apple from a tree. As soon as He and Polly arrived, they noticed that the witch was already there eating an apple. She tried to catch him and tried to convince him to transport the apple to London in order to save her mother. Even with the temptation of the witch, Digory was still able take the apple back to Aslan. Digory was told by Aslant to bring the apple with him. Aslan then returned them back to London. Digory’s mother was able to get better. The children then decided to bury the rings along with the core of the apple. After sometime, a tree grows out from the rings and apple. However, a storm had destroyed the tree and causes it to be knocked down. Some time later, Digory made a wardrobe out of the tree in where a new adventure will soon begin.
Opinions
The book was actually interesting and was well written. It had the fantasy that I want and it was just simply amazing. I was just surprised to learn that the there is a sequel that can already be read. The author has done a great job in capturing his audience’s attention and has actually greatly entertained me. Overall, the book deserves to be recognized and be acknowleged by other readers.
Recommendations
I would recommend  the book to readers who are greatly fond of fantasies. I would also be happy to share it with my family and friends knowing that the book has already been transformed into a movie.  I also would whole heartedly share it to those new readers.

Life, what makes it worth remembering?
It is mostly the small things which we never noticed,
Or which we often take for granted
 What makes it memorable?
It is the efforts of other people that made you smile and
Have brighten up your day no matter how down you are
 What makes it worth living?
It is often the moments of your loved ones
Which you have learned to cherish and treasure

Do you remember those days?
When we are allowed to roam around with nothing to fear
Hoping we can reminisce those days
Laughing without thinking of the incoming days
Children playing near the streets without fear
Do you remember those days?
Enjoying the view of the bay
Visiting your loved ones with nothing to fear
Hoping we can reminisce those days
Wishing and looking at sky of blue and grey
Listening to deafening music with your peers
Do you remember those days?
Hoping everyone would find the right way
Without anyone sacrificing their blood and tears
Do you remember those days?
Hoping we can reminisce those days

Her eyes, dark as the mysterious night sky
Her skin is as white as the winter snow
Her smile is my sunshine after the rainy skies
Her long hair is like a river that flows
She is the first one whom I want to see
And the last one whom I want to be with
She always know what is the best for me
And often treats me like a childish kid
I may not be as perfect as it seems, But,
I will give her the sweetest chocolates
And the fragrant roses that she have sought
I shall give her my love and not my hate
In the end, she is someone dear to me
She is the someone that no one could be

Child of Light, i
Summary: You’ve been led to believe your Papa is magical, but you quickly learn that magic comes with a price. You appear to be lucky that Captain Udonta is tired of his job.
A/N: So I had a vague plot in my head one day after finishing Cross the Stars and I kind of ran with it. So here’s a shorter fic than Cross the Stars, where you - the reader - are a Child of Ego. I’m apparently obsessed with dissecting Yondu pre-GOTG so take that as you will.
Words: 2,533
----
When you were young, your Mama told you that you were made of stars. Your Papa was powerful, magical, and beautiful - and you were every part him - except for your fuchsia skin and grey eyes. Those were all Mama, all traits shared by many Krylorians.
You grew up thinking Papa was a hero. Mama spoke often of his vision, his passion, and the world he wanted to create.
“It will be like magic,” Mama said. “Your Papa has the power of the universe at his fingertips. He wants something bigger than what we have - better. For you. With you.” She hugged you then, every time she told the story, no matter how many times she told it. And you loved her like that - soft, caring, entranced by the memory of your long-gone Papa. “He had to leave,” she’d say. “He has a purpose. You’ll learn one day what it is.”
One day came sooner than you would’ve liked. After it happened, you’d wished it had never come at all.
A small metal ship landed on Krylor one day, and out stepped its young captain. He was blue, which wasn’t so rare on your side of the galaxy, but such a Centaurian shade of blue as that made anyone who looked at him stop and gasp. You couldn’t remember seeing a Centaurian any time before that, so immediately, you were intrigued.
You liked the look of him. He was confident and walked with swagger. His lips seemed to be stuck in an eternal smirk, and occasionally he flashed sharp teeth at women around him. A red fin protruded from his skull and shone in the sunlight. He wore mostly leather, though he had nothing under his fur-lined coat. You wondered why he was so heavily clad, given how warm it was on Krylor that day. Still, you couldn’t tear your eyes away from him. It seemed to you that even his scars - of which there were plenty - had character.
He stepped into the center of the crowd that had formed around his ship. When he opened his mouth to speak, he let out a series of whistles and clicks. Everyone, including you, looked on in confusion. He nodded, touched his ear, and then went on with, “Right. Fergot to turn on my translator,” with a heavy accent, though you couldn’t quite place where it was from. “I’m lookin’ fer someone named (Y/N).”
You felt your body shut off for a second. Those around you turned their attention to you. Mama put her hand on her shoulder.
“Your Papa must be looking for you!” she whispered to you, her breath warm on your neck.
You stayed as still as your heart. You were suddenly nervous, both at the sight of this beautiful stranger and at the thought of meeting your powerful Papa. Your mother pushed out forward when you didn’t move yourself.
The Centaurian rose an eyebrow at you. “(Y/N)?” he asked.
You watched him closely as you nodded. His smirk widened.
He kept his eyes on you, but seemed to address everyone in the vicinity. “(Y/N), Ego is lookin’ for ya,” he said. “Good news is, ya gotta Celestial for a daddy.”
Your eyes went wide, and you turned to Mama. She smiled with pride and nodded in confirmation of the Centaurian’s words.
“I been sent ta collect’ya,” he said, commanding your attention. “Name’s Captain Yondu Udonta.” He held out a hand for you, though you momentarily forgot what the gesture meant. He stared, his smirk falling as the seconds ticked on. You watched as he shoved his outstretched hand closer to you without a word.
You shook your head and uttered a small apology, then shook his hand with wonder in your eyes. All of this was happening fast, and most of it was hard to believe. You’d only heard stories of your Papa, and now he’d sent a pirate to bring you to him. You wondered why. Why so secretive? Why so distant and unreachable? And why reach out now?
But this Captain Udonta didn’t give you too much time to ponder. “So...what’s it gonna be?” he asked. “Ya comin’ er not?”
You looked back at Mama again, who nodded in approval. She wanted you to go. Captain Udonta apparently wanted you to go. You wondered why you didn’t want to go - or maybe it was the lack of feeling like you wanted to go that confused you. Still, you felt as if meeting your Papa was expected of you, now that everyone was watching and Mama looked so proud and eager to see you off.
“I am,” you said, surprising yourself. “Just one moment, please.”
“Just one,” Captain Udonta said, letting go of your hand.
You went to Mama, clasped her hands between your own as tight as you could, and said a few breathy goodbyes. You prayed to yourself that you would see her again, though you couldn’t say for sure you would. She gave you a tender kiss before releasing you, and then you followed Captain Udonta onto his small ship.
“I don’t get to bring anything with me?” you asked after the door to the ship had closed.
Yondu Udonta shook his head. “Yer daddy’s got plenty for ya,” he said. “I gotta change a clothes for ya if ya need it.”
You watched as he went to the captain’s seat, only looking away when the ship departed from Krylor. You wondered if you would ever see the planet again, or if you even wanted to. Mama was your reason for staying - maybe that was why it was so easy for you to agree to go.
“Ya may wanna take a seat,” Captain Udonta said, gesturing to the metal chair beside him.
It was then that you noticed no one else was on board, and you realized that no one had come off the ship with him before. You went to the chair and sat before asking, “Do you usually travel alone?”
He gave you a side glance as the ship pulled out of Krylor’s atmosphere. You watched as he pushed buttons and flipped switches, obviously concentrating on keeping the two of you alive as you headed out into space.
“No,” he said, once the ship had stopped rocking. “I normally run a much larger ship, but I travel alone fer Ego.”
He said your Papa’s name with some kind of vitriol on his tongue, making you wonder, yet again, why. Why did this Captain work for your Papa - why didn’t your Papa collect you himself? Why did Captain Udonta seem not to like your Papa very much, if he was employed by him?
“What’s he like?” you asked before thinking.
Captain Udonta waited until he went through a jump to answer. “Kinda a jackass,” he said almost too quietly.
Your brows furrowed. “Then why are you taking me to him?” you asked. You didn’t like the way Captain Udonta was speaking about your Papa - but you also didn’t know your Papa, and you didn’t know if he was worth your loyalty. Mama would say he was, you knew. Mama loved him, so he had to be at least a little good, right?
“Ego pays me. Well. Couldn’ afford a ship like this without’em.”
You wondered if that was the whole story, but knew this Captain wouldn’t say anything more. He wouldn’t look at you, no matter how long you stared at him. Eventually, you resigned yourself to a quiet trip across the universe until you came upon a planet in the final stages of forming.
“Is this Ego?” you asked.
Captain Udonta nodded. “Sure is, Darlin’.”
You stopped yourself from scowling at the name. That wasn’t important in that moment. Importance sprouted from the surface of Ego in bubbles, flora, fauna, and light. From the moment the ship landed, you could feel the light surging through you - hot, fast, and loud, despite it not giving off noise. You had trouble breathing as you stepped off the ship, but hid it as well as you could.
“Where is he?” you asked.
Captain Udonta shrugged. “On his way, probably. He’s ‘xpectin’ us.”
You looked around, slowly, at the planet. It felt alive beneath your feet, and after a few minutes, you did, too. Your breathing evened, the noise in your head eased, and the heat of the light subsided into a gentle warmness. It was pleasant, now that you’d acclimated to it.
When you turned back to Captain Udonta, you saw, off on the horizon, a white orb moving toward you. The two of you looked on as it approached, descended, and off stepped a tall man - Terran or Xandarian in appearance - with a huge smile on his face. As he neared, you could see the resemblance to yourself in his face. His eyes crinkled the same way yours did, and his hair held the same volume yours did. His skin was light and peachy, while yours was Krylorian pink, but the shape of his nose was familiar, as was his manner of walking.
He stepped to you, blatantly ignoring your escort. “You must be (Y/N),” he said, reaching for your hands.
You let him take them and felt a jolt - the same hot jolt you’d felt when you’d touched the planet, only this time, it was a brief, fleeting feeling. You nodded and couldn’t help but smile.
Finally, your Papa glanced at your escort. “You did good, Captain,” he said, beaming as if he was made of pure light.
Captain Udonta nodded and grunted, then held his hand out.
“Of course,” Papa said. He reached into his cloak and pulled out a chip - a transaction of units - and handed it to the Captain. “Thank you, Captain. We’ll be in touch.”
“Sure,” Captain Udonta said. He gave you one final look, though you had trouble reading its intention, before boarding his ship once more.
You didn’t notice that Captain Udonta didn’t take off for a while. You went off with Papa and saw Ego - the person, the Celestial, the planet. He told you about the light, its power. He told you that he loved your mother, though he did admit he had to leave her to work on his mission.
“You didn’t come back when I was born, though,” you said at one point.
Papa nodded and sighed. “I know, and I’m sorry, (Y/N),” he said. “My mission - my purpose, it takes a lot of work. I sometimes don’t leave this planet for years without even realizing it.”
You nodded and listened as he continued telling you about the planet, your heritage, and his ideas for your relationship. You liked him enough, as far as you could tell. But then the sun fell from the surface of Ego, and you were left alone in an unfamiliar room. The planet looked as if it was sleeping - the light faded, the plants sagged, and all life seemed on pause.
Except for you.
You roamed the estate, found your way outside, and used the light from your communication device to scour the dark terrain. That’s when you came upon the caverns. You didn’t want to go in - they were dark, large, and terrifying without the sun to light the way. They were also quite cold now. Still, you wanted to know everything about your Papa. You wanted to know what could be in a cavern he built himself - why he’d built it in the first place - so you went in.
After five minutes of walking, you started to hear screaming. It came on so suddenly, you almost fell to your knees. Your heart raced as it got louder. Every fiber in your body told you to turn around and leave the cavern, but the voices begged for your help. You went further into the darkness until you came to a sharp ledge - and then a bright light shone from behind you.
You turned on your heel and saw the outline of Captain Udonta’s red crest behind the rays of light. “What’re you still doing here?” you asked.
“Savin’ ya,” he answered, approaching you.
“From what?” you asked.
He came to stand beside you, shining his light beyond the ledge. “Take a look.”
You furrowed your brow before doing as you were told - and there, in the cavern now lit by Captain Udonta, were corpses. It seemed like there were thousands of them. You wanted to scream, but nothing came out. You were short of breath and shaking all of the sudden. All you could manage to get out was a meek question: “What is that?”
“I think they’re yer siblings, Darlin’,” he said.
“That’s impossible,” you said.
“It ain’t,” he said. “Ego’s been payin’ me to bring his kids here for months now. Ya ain’t the first.”
“What is he doing to them? To us?” you asked, tearing your eyes away from the bodies.
“That I don’t know,” Captain Udonta said. “Whatever it is, it’s killin’ ya.”
“Why did you let him take me?” you asked. “Why bring me here in the first place, just to let me find this? Why save me when you don’t even know me?” It felt good to finally ask some of the questions rolling around in your head.
“Would’ya’ve believed me if I’d told ya?” he asked. “None’a ya do. Y’all want a daddy so damn bad, ya’d never believe a Ravager like me.”
“You’re a Ravager?” you asked. “My papa hired a Ravager to bring me to my death?”
“Darlin’, me bein’ a Ravager really shouldn’ be yer biggest concern. Yer daddy’s the Jackass in this sit’iation.”
You stared at him in silence for a few moments, but then the screams filled your head again. “Why are you still here, then?” you asked, maybe a bit too loudly.
“Tired’a watchin’ yer kin die. Tired’a the blood on my hands,” he said. “We’re gettin’ outta here.” With that, he grabbed you by the arm and ran, and you had to do your best to keep up without tripping.
Eventually, the screams subsided, and then you found his ship across the plains of Ego. You managed to get away...too easily, it felt. Ego never came after you. He never searched for you, never even seemed to care that you’d gotten away. You tried not to take it too personally - your Papa was a Jackass, as the Captain had said. You doubted he’d ever cared for you particularly, given how many bodies had already piled up in that cavern.
“I could take ya home,” Captain Udonta offered as you headed out into space.
Immediately, you nodded. Home sounded nice. Krylor was safe, and Mama was there. The world felt dark, and not just because you were out in space. Your Papa was a liar, a murderer. You didn’t even know what he wanted with you, but you were glad Captain Udonta had gotten you off the planet before you could find out.
“Thank you,” you whispered to him as he put in coordinates for Krylor.
He nodded, and again you traveled in silence.

Nature Coast Thanks-giving
It is good to sit down and write about what makes life so worth living regularly. This time of year, I tend to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of gifts, meals, relatives, and pets. This year, I just moved into a new home and am spending a lot of time figuring out what goes where and how to best manage the new environment. In Florida’s Nature Coast, I find a daily sense of thanks for the slower pace of life and general consideration of a door opened for me, a small shop or restaurant owner greeting me when I visit, a cart shared at the grocery store, a smile from another motorist at the stop sign, and the beauty of nature that surrounds us. I will never forget moving to Brooksville in 2005 and shopping at the local Publix store with my husband one Sunday. We had moved up from the St. Petersburg area the week before. Everything seemed to be on 2/3 time. We felt like everyone should move a little faster, but then we looked at each other and said, “Guess we better get used to Brooksville time,” and we have never looked back.
Tumblr media
The Nature Coast is full of people and organizations who help each other. The Opportunity to Help a Neighbor The area encompassing Florida’s Nature Coast includes Pasco, Hernando, Citrus, and several Florida Counties north along the Gulf of Mexico until about Tallahassee. The Nature Coast that we cover includes several small towns or cities – each with a real sense of community. Events held in this area nearly always benefit a local nonprofit. We have Arts Councils, Heritage/History Councils, as well as agencies that provide help for the mentally disabled, the physically disabled and the youth and the seniors. If someone’s house burns down, the neighbors step up and hold fundraisers and businesses donate also.

After Papa Joe's Restaurant caught fire and was destroyed in 2014, a huge community effort for employee relief was undertaken. Image courtesy of Papa Joe's Employee Relief. I remember when Papa Joe’s restaurant in Spring Lake burned down. Joe Giarratana, the owner of the business, contacted local restaurants to get positions for his employees until they could rebuild. Fundraisers were held to help the employees and their families. It was over a year before the new restaurant was back in business, even with insurance funds to reconstruct. Many of the former employees were able to return in due time. At the time of the stock market crash, Raymond and Margaret Robins gave their fortune to back the Bank of Brooksville, preventing a horrible economic crash for the area's families and businesses. They owned Chinsegut Hill at the time. The Opportunity to Be Helped

Rachel, our little white dog who decided to go on an adventure, and was returned home. Last week, my little white dog decided to stand out on the road in front of our new house. We were having some work done by heavy equipment and I can only surmise that she didn’t like the ruckus. A good Samaritan came along and picked her up, thinking she was lost. After I realized she wasn’t home, I began searching and could not find her anywhere. I resorted to posting on all the Facebook Lost Pet/Found Pet groups I could find – until about 1 am when I collapsed.
Tumblr media
About 4 am I woke up and looked at my posts. Someone had posted a Found Dog in a different group and it was my little white dog! I immediately messaged them, eventually showing up at their gate around 8 am, hoping to see my fur baby and carrying a note. I called her name and up she ran, jumped in the truck and came home with me. I cannot thank the many people who were involved in taking care of my pet and helping me get her back safely enough. It is, however, part of the culture of Florida’s Nature Coast and I am so grateful to live here.

Sports are strong and varied in our region also. Everything from a wakeboarding park and one of the most pristine kayaking rivers in the State to a huge ice arena, tennis and golf academy, and an international soccer school. And let us not forget our middle and high school baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, and football teams. These institutions provide good direction and opportunities to strive to be the best in the world.

With both water and forest nature throughout our area, one can enjoy the serenity of rivers, lakes, the Gulf Monday, and hike to find caves the next day. Some have beautiful shorelines, some have heavy tree canopies, one is a wonderful animal park, one is home to mermaids and mermen. Just being able to drive roads with trees on both sides and a deer crossing or bear crossing sign is something I am grateful for. Mostly, I am grateful for you, my fellow NatureCoasters. Please post your favorite things about this area in the comments below. Perhaps we can arrange a future field trip to meet up and enjoy. Read the full article

It was Friday evening and as I sat in my recliner browsing FaceBook, I ran across an announcement for a canoeing/kayaking trip down the Middle Fork of the Vermilion River. The trip was being organized and lead by Mike & Anja Metz through the Champaign Ski and Adventure Club. I met Mike many years ago when he used to lead joint trips with the Mackinaw Canoe Club. Mike has been doing this for a long time and always has some good trips. I immediately decided this was a trip I should do. It was a decision I would not regret.
The next morning I was up bright and early, packing gear, gathering snacks and food for lunch, and loading my kayak onto my little white Mitsubishi Mirage. Our instructions were to meet at Ogden, IL by 9 am, so I was on the road by 7 am. It’s a 90 minute drive, but I needed to stop for gas. I arrived at the appointed meeting spot with 5 minutes to spare.
There are a couple different “Vermilion Rivers” in Illinois. It can be confusing. I live along the Vermilion River of the Illinois River watershed. The Middle Fork of the Vermilion River is one of three rivers ( Salt Fork, Middle Fork, North Fork ) which form the Vermilion River system of the Wabash River watershed. Both of these “Vermilion Rivers” start in the same general region of Central Illinois which used to be a large marsh, but they flow in opposite directions. One explanation for the two river systems having the same name is that the native Americans considered these rivers to be part of the same system, since they both started in the same marsh, and called them both by the same name.
The Middle Fork of the Vermilion River is the  only river in Illinois that has received “Wild and Scenic” designation. It is indeed a very beautiful and scenic place which deserves to be protected for future generations.
I think there were 14 boats and 15 participants in our group. A good turnout. The water level was just right, but I would not want to paddle at a lower level. The current was obvious and adequate most of the time. I only scraped bottom in a few places and never had to exit my kayak for lack of water. 1.76 feet on the Oakwood gage.

Once we dropped a couple of cars at the take-out at Kickapoo State Park, we made our way upstream to the Put-in. The parking lot at the put-in is very nice, but the turn-around on the boat ramp access was way too muddy for my little car. Next time I will know to park in the lot and use my kayak cart to get my boat to the water. I ended up using my cart for the short trip to the water any way and if I had simply started at the parking lot I could have avoided unnecessary crowding the boat access
Everyone waited patiently as one by one we all got into our boats and on the river, but once we were all afloat, the group quickly disbursed. Mike went first, since he has a lot of experience on this river and wanted to watch for any possible hazards ahead of us. I hung towards the back of the group, figuring that if anyone did have a problem I would come across them sooner or later. I wasn’t in any big hurry any way. I wanted to spend more time on the water than on the road that day. Our trip would be approximately 13 river miles.
Tumblr media
One of the many riffles we went through during our trip. The water level was just right.
Our group was an eclectic mix of mostly older folks, some of whom have a lot of paddling experience and some with very little. I think there was only one tandem canoe in the group. Everyone else paddled solo. We were pretty evenly divided between canoes and kayaks.
At first there were four of us guys paddling together at the back of the group. One of the guys is named Brooks Hauser. Brooks recently graduated from the University of Illinois. He was by far the youngest member of our entire group. Before we had gone very far, Brooks paddled over to a deadfall on the river bank. I wasn’t sure why. Then I looked back to see what he was doing and he had a snake in his hand. Well THAT was interesting. I paddled over to get a better look. Brooks said the it was a common Northern Water Snake. It was squirming furiously and biting at Brooks’ hand at every opportunity. Brooks maintained that he could hardly even feel the bites, but the snake did manage to draw a tiny bit of blood in a few spots.
Obviously, Brooks knows a lot about snakes. In fact, Brooks knows a lot about wildlife in general. At last count, I believe Brooks located and caught 11 snakes during our trip. They including a black rat snake, northern water snakes, and a queen snake. Brooks also located and caught at least two baby turtles, which were the smallest that I had ever seen in the wild before. And just for good measure, Brooks also caught a small crayfish ( crawdad ).
We also saw an adult American bald eagle, its nest, and several eaglets in the nest. I didn’t notice the Eagle, perched high in a tree on the river’s edge, as we approached. It was spooked by our presence and flew downstream for several hundred yards. We saw it as it took flight and I was disappointed, thinking this was the last that we would see of this majestic bird. To my surprise and delight the eagle turned around and flew back to it’s perch in the same tree it had just left. As we paused to take in this sight, we could hear eaglets calling for their parents. Brooks spotted the huge nest in a nearby tree and we could see little heads bobbing up and down in the nest. For most of my life I never thought I would have the opportunity to see a wild bald eagle in Central Illinois. Even though bald eagle sightings are much more common now, I am always excited to see a bald eagle in the wild, especially here in Illinois.
I believe this was a black rat snake. Yikes! Thanks Brooks Hauser for sharing your amazing photos.
The sky was a bit overcast most of the day, but the temperatures were very pleasant. It wasn’t too hot and the water was cool, but not too cold. It did sprinkle a very light rain for a little while during the early part of the trip, but there was not thunder or lightning. It was actually quite nice. I didn’t hear anyone complain.
We caught up to the rest of the group at a wonderful little lunch spot, complete with a nearby pit toilet and benches overlooking the river. That’s luxury when you’re on the river. Even though I have done this stretch of the river many times before, I had never stopped here in the past. Mike knows all the good spots and interesting places along the river. Thanks Mike! I’ll try to remember this little oasis for the next time I’m here.
After lunch, we all made our way back to the river and quickly fell into the same rhythm. Brooks and I found ourselves bringing up the rear of the group once again. I don’t think either of us minded it a bit. I know I didn’t. Brooks is such an interesting young man and I was having fun getting to know him a little bit. We continued to watch for snakes or whatever there was to see and enjoy.
Brooks enthusiasm and love of nature was obvious and contagious. I have paddled with people who were experts in the areas of plants, insects, geology, geography, history, wildlife, fishing, photography, canoeing, kayaking, and a host of other subjects, but this was the first time I spent the day with someone who knew so much about snakes and was so comfortable handling them. Thanks for putting up with me all day Brooks! This is a trip I will never forget.
Further on downstream, Brooks took a break to answer natures call. I warned him not to take too long or I would have to come looking for him. Not fifty yards downstream and around a bend in the river, there stood Mike in the middle of the stream. He warned me that there was a deadfall in the stream just ahead that had caused a capsize. He was worried when he didn’t see Brooks. I told him that he had just stopped and would be along shortly, which he was. We knew that there were more paddlers just behind us, so we stopped to make sure they got through safely.  We helped several people avoid the log jam and helped on person recover after a capsize. I even recovered a set of car keys, on a Chicago Cubs lanyard, that someone lost in this tricky spot. I later turned them in to the canoe rental office at Kickapoo State Park.
“It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.” That’s one of my favorite quotes from Henry David Thoreau. I got a little better understanding of that quote today as Brooks reminded me how to be a bit more observant and aware of my surroundings. Slow down. Pay attention. Once you know what to look for and where to look, it becomes a lot easier. There’s a lot more going on out there on the river than most of us realize. We pass right by and never take much notice of the flora and fauna. I sure have been guilty of that. Once I slowed down a bit and started paying attention to the likely places a snake would sun themselves I actually spotted a couple of snakes laying in dead falls along the river bank. Snakes are not my thing. I will leave the catching and handling of the snakes to Brooks, but it was fun to spot them all along the river.
Tumblr media
This photo shows the scarred up roots of a sycamore tree. Ugly, and beautiful at the same time.
There is so much beauty along this river. Near the end of our trip we saw the leaching from the coal ash ponds. We saw the attempts to shore up the riverbank in that area. I can only describe it as ugly and disgusting. This river is truly beautiful, but it has been scarred. It’s sad! I am reminded just how beautiful nature can be when we leave it alone. This is a precious place that we need to protect. Too much human impact has happened here already.
Tumblr media
The red line shows our path down the river. I measured the distance on the river as 13.0 miles.
You can view This Map on Google Maps.
I want to thank Mike & Anja Metz, and everyone from the Champaign Ski and Adventure Club, for a great trip. It was wonderfully organized. Everyone was so nice. Thanks to Paul for shuttling me back to my car after the trip, and thanks again to Mike and Anja for waiting with my kayak and equipment while Paul drover me to the Put-In and I drove back. You have the patience of Saints! I also want to thanks Brooks for generously sharing his photos with me for this blog. Those photos are amazing!
I’m still trying to get some video while I’m on the river, but it’s definitely a work in progress. I used an app on my phone to piece together some highlights from the trip. “Slithering down the Middle Fork.“

Water Shortage Reason
What is Water Shortage?
Tumblr media
To emphasize the severity of water shortages both locally and on a global scale, it is necessary to inform the public of this startling statistic. Every continent around the world is affected, not just those regions that are traditionally dry. At least two billion people are affected for at least one month of the year. And more than 1 billion people have no access to clean drinking or potable water. Here is an extension of what water shortages entail and what it means to be without it.
There is a lack of necessary resources to meet current needs Water shortages are also known as – water scarcity, water stress, water crisis Apart from the lack of resources, there is difficulty in obtaining access to fresh water Due to the lack of resources and access to water, further deterioration of existing resources occurs Due to dry weather conditions, further depletion occurs Pertinently, water shortages refers to regions’ existing unpolluted water treatment in pakistan being far less than its demand A distinction needs to be made between what is in demand and what is reasonably needed Clean water has become like a luxury for the people in places like sub-Saharan Africa. Most of the people spend entire day searching for it which limit their ability to try to their hand in some other things. By the year 2025, the situation may become worse when two-thirds of the world’s population may face water shortages.
“Water scarcity is the lack of sufficient available water resources to meet water needs within a region. It affects every continent and around 2.8 billion people around the world at least one month out of every year. More than 1.2 billion people lack access to clean drinking water. Water scarcity involves water osmosis stress, water shortage or deficits, and water crisis.”
We all know that about 70% of the Earth is covered with water. Only 2.5-3% of this water is fresh. Rest of the water is salty and ocean-based. Of that 3% freshwater, two-thirds of that is trapped in glaciers and snowfields and is not available for our use. The rest one-thirds of that freshwater is available for human consumption and to feed the entire population on this planet. As a result, freshwater – the water that we drink, take bath is rare and makes up a very small fraction of all water on the planet.
The global problem of water shortages needs to be highlighted and re-emphasized over and over again until such time that everyone is fully aware of this and does their part to responsibly save water, even in areas where it is perceived that there are already sufficient supplies of water. To further the cause of this awareness, this short but extensive article provides readers with an informative but easy to understand explanation of what water shortage entails.
It begins by describing what is meant by water shortage. It then moves on to highlight the critical causes of this. Following that, to highlight the need to move towards conserving water, it features some of the effects and severe consequences of water shortages. Ending the article on a positive note, solutions to addressing these shortfalls are highlighted. The structure of this note is more informational than anything else. Motivations for curbing excessive water use occur on a daily basis. Helping to raise awareness also means educating the public by dispensing important information.
Some of the Main Causes of Water Shortage Environmentalists and small-scale activists these days have field days naming global warming and climate change as the root cause for the world’s water shortages. But this analogy is not entirely correct. What also needs to be examined is what is causing global warming and the current climate crisis today. This next list highlights the main causes of water shortages around the globe.
Excess and unnecessary demands outstrip available and scarce resources Increased pollution due to excessive and unsustainable human consumption There is overuse of water across the board and in all forms of industrial processes Non-sustainable domestic practices such as leaving taps running when water is not needed and needs to be stopped Economic scarcity caused by poor or lack of management of existing water resources Uneven distribution of water resources – regions that have excess supplies do not divert resources to areas where it is needed more Aquifers over-pumped and not re-charging quickly enough Pollution remains one of the biggest problems in which governments don’t do nearly enough to penalize industrial use companies that illegally dump chemicals and oils into stressed water systems Fair access to land presents challenges of conflict where many people are restricted or denied access to land, whether privately or government owned, and on which precious water resources may be found The challenge of distance remains acute in some parts of the world where regions have historically experienced dry climates and have had to rely on neighboring countries to supply them. Effects and Severe Consequences of Water Shortages To emphasize the severity of water cleaning companies shortages it is incumbent to highlight some of the many effects and consequences of this. This list is as broad-based as it can be right now, from chronicling how it impacts domestic life to the global picture referred to as a tipping point when seen in relation to rising temperatures.
Water restrictions imposed across the board Poorer communities and informal settlements still lack access to potable water systems Negative impact on greening and domestic gardening initiatives due to water restrictions Increased fire hazards Polluted river beds and lakes harm ecosystems, including flora and fauna Water tariffs and/or prices increased across the board Particularly in drought-stricken areas, farmers unable to produce vital crops Due to extensive over-pollution, ice glaciers melting and contributing towards rising sea levels and/or temperatures Global increase in temperatures further exacerbates water shortages Mainly due to both lack of access and poverty, disease is the sum consequence. Clean water is needed to revive and sustain the human body while polluted river beds near informal settlements are the breeding ground for malevolent diseases Added to this severe lack of water resources comes the problem of basic sanitation needs being exacerbated A lack of education and access to all other areas of life has also been added as severe consequences to not having access to water

Proxy Cosmos
(An alternate reality where Alec Ryder lived, and both twins were awake during the events of Andromeda.)
Chapter Four:
"If you're trying to hide, I don't think you're doing a great job."
Scott looked up at the Turian, regarding her with a soft smile. He remembered meeting Vetra, but had little time to get to her know her in the whirl of events since boarding the Tempest. Most of the drama had been utterly the fault of his family. Scott wished that he was more surprised.
"Yeah, I'm trying the broody act," Scott felt a smile curl a corner of his lip, "but I gave up halfway there."
"I don't know, seems pretty broody to me."
He chuckled. But now came the silence, he didn't want it, but it permeated the space between them. It wasn't for any particular kind of company, and certainly not for the physical kind of attention. He just craved the basic kind of affection from another being that was not a part of his family. Or someone not involved in that craziness. He wasn't open like Elsee, or gruff enough to prefer his own company like his Dad.
Vetra's mandibles vibrated, and as if sensing his need she sat down beside him. Long arms hanging over her knees. For several minutes they sat silently, breathing syncing together slowly.
"Isn't family a pain in the ass, sometimes?" Vetra spoke softly.
"Literally," Scott smirked, leaning his head against the metal wall, "do you have any family of your own?"
"Yeah, a little sister...Sid. Brought her with me."
"She a pain in the ass?"
"Major pain in the ass," Vetra smirked.
"I always wished I could be the older sibling; you get so much crap being the youngest. I watched you pick your nose; I watched you shake a turd out of your pants camping one year."
Vetra chuckled, "the whining is not worth it. I'm hungry; I had an accident. I'm bored. And oh, the crying. All the crying."
Scott's laughter fell a little short, his attention returning to the darkened window of the med clinic. Dad was fine; he would recover with sufficient meds and rest, but that didn't make it any easier. Or perhaps it was everything, this entire shitty mess, starting to collapse on him. Now that the fires had stopped popping up, the calm allowed him to think rather than to simply react. It weighed on him, weighed on everyone on the Pathfinder's team heavily.
"How did you hear of the Andromeda Initiative?" simple questions might keep her there longer.
"Short answer? Kesh," the turian's rumbling voice recalled the memory with pride, "She was looking for some experimental ship mods, and I knew how to track them down. I thought it was a one time deal, but she came back. Once, twice... eventually I figured out something was going on. Something big, with creds behind it," Vetra paused, looking out into the hallway like it had been just moments ago, "I asked, and she told me about the initiative. New galaxy, new home- couldn't pass that up."
"Wow, that's some laser will."
"Yeah? Was it too much? Some people get intimidated," Vetra purred.
"We need that sort of drive," Scott kept it cool, "I just hope I can keep up."
"You'll keep up. And I promise I won't tell if you don't," the Turian got up from the floor.
"If you didn't just big sister me," Scott teased.
She huffed, offering out her claw, "Come on, 'little' Scott. I know something that might cheer you up."
======
Kallo pushed against Suvi, who in turn tried not to crowd Cora who waited in the doorway of the crew quarters. Gil, Liam, Vetra and Scott waited in the corridor, just out of reach of the sensor that would open the kitchen door. Lexi pretended not to be involved in the scene quietly happening outside her door, but she was just as interested. Even Alec's attention turned to the gathering groups.
"It smells sooo good," Suvi whined with a growl of her stomach.
"I want to eat it, even if it would kill me," Vetra agreed.
"You will not eat the human food, Vetra!" Lexi warned.
Gil smirked, "I'm going to savor it slowly for you Vetra."
"Who brought spices with them to Andromeda?" Cora asked, pretending to be focused on anything other than the smell of food.
"That would be Elsee," Scott snickered.
"The things I could get from that collection," Vetra murmured.
"Vetra, you can't. This smell, I cannot forget it," Kallo added in an appalled tone, "ever."
"Hopefully it's as good as it-"
"Ooof!" Elsee squeaked, suddenly running into the crowds gathering just outside the galley. She had shooed away a curious hand or two, but not the entire crew.
They grinned, each with differing amounts of guilt. Cora stumbled forward as one of the two behind her pushed. Elsee twirled, keeping the covered pot safely from crashing.
"Well," Elsee started slowly, gaining a smile, "we can all eat upstairs together. If, if you guys would like to."
"I'm up for it!" Gil volunteered first. The rest agreed with him.
Elsee beamed, "Good, Cora if you would grab the large silver pan in the oven. Watch it; it's hot. Vetra if you wouldn't mind the small silver pan also in the oven. Suvi, if you'd grab the white one, also in the oven." Her first commands came sheepishly, but her confidence grew as each member agreed to their task, "Kallo, if you would be a dear and get the plates at the top of the cupboard. Gil and Scott, can you manage silverware? Including two spatulas, and two serving spoons. Liam, something to drink? Oh, Lexi, if you would grab the pan still on the element."
Scott and Gil battled over how many pieces were needed, and who would carry what. Much to nobody's surprise it ended in a duel of cutlery to the upper meeting room. Kallo remarked about how useful his height was, and the females took to their task with little shenanigans between them. Vetra seemed to be off put but wasn't going to ruin the fun.
Elsee barely made it out ahead of Liam who was juggling the drinks.
The team had arranged the meal around the different displays on the central round table. They waited patiently for Elsee to set down the bulky container before they dared to think about approaching the food.
"Alright, guys," Elsee cleared her throat, "the menu for tonight is Chicken flavored with my special, secret seasoning," which sounded horribly dirty, "a buttered pea and lettuce bake, and garlic mashed potatoes. Vetra, dextro-friendly food is in the smaller pans, turian-chicken, and appropriate vegetables."
Vetra pepped up immediately.
"And on behalf of the good doctor, I must remind you all to eat a healthy portion of veggies, without just focusing on the potatoes. And also for the rest of us to avoid Vetra's portions," Elsee's glibness earning a smile from the doctor.
Cora started the line, muscling her way passed the rest of the rowdy crowd- Suvi who stayed on her coat tails was next. Gil, Liam, Lexi, then Scott made it up front next. Kallo urged Elsee to go before him, and Vetra unworried about getting enough food was fine with filling in last. After each got a plate they sat on the couch, with some taking the floor so that they did not need to be far from the rest of the group.
Elsee parked herself in the middle of the floor, waiting for everyone else's reactions.
"What is in your super secret seasoning?" The engineer asked with a raised eyebrow, double entrada fully intended.
Elsee made a face at Gil, "None of your beeswax."
"Not even a hint?" Suvi prodded.
"Fine, basil and rosemary are two ingredients of the blend," she answered with a smirk.
"Where did you learn to cook, and flavor dextro foods?" Vetra commandeered the conversation after a few moments of silence.
"We had a few Quarians on pilgrimage at one of our dig sites, and a Turian from time to time. I even bought food neutralizers so I could test the recipes out myself."
"Nerd," her brother accused.
"Careful, Scott, tormenting the cook still trumps annoying the doctor," threatened the asari with a point of her fork.
"Where does the pilot fit in that list?"
"Oh come one, how about the engineer?"
"You'd all having nothing without the requestion officer!"
Any debate in the room ended as the boss entered the meeting lounge, all attention immediately turned to him. Waiting to see if he disapproved of an unauthorized use of the meeting area. Alec's eyes wandered the room, his jaw clenching. The Ryder twins jumped to their feet, Elsee taking the lead. But before her mouth opened his hand waved to dispel the words, taking up the last plate. The twins returned to their seat, but the conversation did not.
Alec leaned against the consoles, brown eyes focusing on his daughter, "So what happened on Eos?"
"N-nothing that I didn't report," Elsee stammered.
"I mean," the man sighed, "how was it? How was activating the vault?"
"It was great, scary, but great," she was fumbling, grasping at something to discuss, "I just wonder why they would program a death cloud to chase the person trying to fix the planet."
"That is curious if they had meant to inhabit the world I wonder why they would secure it in a way that required running away from the vault on activation."
"Unless they were that worried about having someone to protect if from, perhaps someone... or something had tried to use their technology against them?" More answers at this point would be helpful, but it all came with more questions.
"That is a good point, the Milky Way can't be the only place where the locals like to fight each other," Alec's smile crept across his face, relaxing the rest of the crew into eating.
"I'm just surprised we haven't found anyone else, other than the machines after all Eos was at least survivable with the right protection from radiation," she mused, "the flora and fauna still seemed to be active enough."
"Or perhaps we came after an extinction event."
"You think the Nexus will let us borrow a drill?"
"Leave that to the colonists," Alec countered with a full smile. Enjoying his first taste of food. His daughter had learned well from her mother; it was just painful to mention. The familiar dish leaving him feeling less empty than he thought. Had that been the last time they had all enjoyed a meal together? "Just for now, we can be curious once we are completely established."
"To escaping a death bubble!" Vetra began.
"To not dying," Liam added.
"To excellent food," cheered Lexi.
The rest agreed with the doctor, with one notable person simply raising a glass.
"I think Elsee here should be designated cook," Gil looked over the empty pans, "this puts my best dish to shame."
"I'm sure I can find more contraband spices," Vetra hummed.
"I have some nice Salarian dishes I think the crew would enjoy."
"Not if it involves bug, Kallo," Cora teased, "I don't think she could even make that taste good."
"That's very r-"
Suvi cut off the Salarian, "say you can bake too?"
"I think it needs less baking soda," Scott's words drew an eye roll from his sister and a bemused smirk from Alec.
"Har, har, Scott," Her eyes wandered to Liam, who still said nothing. She glanced away, pretending not to make awkward eye contact with the Turian that sat next to him.
The crew returned to conversation in various groups between themselves. Alec mostly questioned Elsee who was at ease answering his questions and sharing theories with him. Scott urged himself to look away, and focus on his plate. Still not finding his place in this group. He didn't want to end the rare bonding between Father and Daughter as they discussed the potential of their discoveries on the Heleus cluster. They would never see it, but they shared a fair amount in common. When they weren't busy egging each other on about something asinine.
Vetra leaned into Liam, "Say something nice, stupid."
"Just like mum's cooking," Liam blurted into a crowd that had long since changed subjects, Vetra pinched him for good measure, "thank you for the meal, El."
The crew regarded him curiously, and Elsee colored. Scott glanced between the two, and Alec glared fiercely at the man.
"I'll, uh, I'll gather plates and start cleaning up then," Liam bound from his seat, yanking the empty plate away from Vetra.
