I picked up a copy of "The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire" by Dr. Chris Kempshall and was delightfully surprised. Kempshall is a World War I historian and a respected one at that, known for his modern media analyses and research on how contemporary art reflects and discusses war. This is precisely my shit, as most of you know, and after seeing who it was written by I did a little excited jig and thought, oh god I cannot wait for this analyses of Star Wars through the scope of the rise of fascism and the World Wars.

So imagine my delight when I start reading the historian's introduction only to realize this acclaimed academic has written a Galactic Empire history book from the perspective and lens from a historian within the Star Wars universe. It truly has been such a delight and for anyone in the historical field it's phenomenal to see the recreation of historical methodology and historiography from the in universe perspective of a fictional world. 10/10

Jazz can admit she's not much of an advent literature reader.

In genuine honesty, she's not much of a reader reader either but she does try to consume some kinda book every once in a while.

Books, that weren't badly written sci-fi plots or some sort of paranormal mystery (Danny recs), weren't usually her cup of tea. And hey she has to read other things beyond her Psychology textbooks, ok? Don't judge her choices.

So yes, Jazz can admit that she sucks at just sitting down and physically reading a book and it isn't until Danny suggests audiobooks that she actually starts to enjoy books.

Jazz skimmed at first through her usual books that she had started and never finished before eventually crossing this threshold into the literature books, that usually bored the hell out of her, on accident.

From there on she is a pretty hooked onto the genre in general and it's only because of the voice actor they have reading over 75% of the genre. The genuine passion and excitement in the mans voice had her hooked onto every story he was telling.

It was like an unbreakable spell had been cast over her and suddenly she just enjoyed books (and if it was because she was slightly crushing on a faceless guys voice? Who cares! What are you, the GIW?).

Point is, Jazz gets hooked on this dudes voice and the books he reads. And when she runs out of them she immediately starts searching for the dude to see if he's VA'd in anything else, only to stumble on the guys tiktok and podcast where he gives out recommendations.

What sells her to subscribe to Jason Todd was his rants on badly written books and the hours long book reading he did each week just for fun on his podcast.

And honestly, if Jazz hadn't been crushing on the guy already, she was sure she wouldve been after looking him up. She becomes a genuine casual fan after that moment, tunning in but not fully all in, to whatever he posts.

She almost spits her tea out when she sees him in broad daylight on the Gotham streets a week later, walking into her favorite book cafe that she did her studying at.

On the subject of songs, this is probably beating a dead horse but, will wood and the tapeworms for bill. I could go on for hours ranting and raving about the parallels, but ima just throw a few specifics out there and hope something sticks lol

Dr. Sunshine is Dead- the lyrics are almost self explanatory in how it relates but I wanna explain it anyways lol. The conflict of not having an identity without purpose, without insight into who you are, the gradual build of insanity, the moment of clarity, and then the break, choosing to be your own sunshine, your own darkness, violently taking the reigns of your life- oh and the last line, god it’s perfect

Hand Me My Shovel- this one feels almost more billford, more specifically bill possessing ford- hear me out here- there’s a sort of disjointed desperation, that comes from both ends, bill rushing and straining and breaking ford in the effort to accomplish his goals, and ford reaping the consequences and conflicted with helping bill and being destroyed by him.

More loose recs cause this is getting wordy and I fear I sound insane

Thank You @potatoe-potato for bringing Dr. Sunshine is Dead to my attention. It perfectly captures a scene that’s still a little way off in Act 3, but the emotion in this song is the same one I’m trying to evoke with my writing. I’ll be adding this to my playlist for later writing 😉. I also think the themes in this perfectly coincide with Bill’s trauma surrounding losing his vision and his subsequent fear of not being able to see.

And that last line? Damn, you were right about that. I got chills listening to it. 😌

Hand Me My Shovel, I’m Going In! Is half deranged and desperate. It sounds to me exactly like Bill doggedly pursuing his new world and not caring at all who he has to crush along the way to attain that goal, even at the expense of people he cares about. The “this is not enough” towards the end sound more like Ford being exhausted and overworked but fully willing to force himself to keep going solely because he needs Bill’s approval that badly and because he can’t be satisfied with the research he’s done. He NEEDS the portal, he NEEDS to be lauded for his accomplishments the world over to finally convince himself he’s as special and smart as he tells himself. I love the way that Bill and Ford enable each other sometimes, even while I want to scream and shake sense into them 😂😂.

Mr. Capgras Encounters a Secondhand Vanity would be Bill’s self-loathing rearing its head in the midst of some kind of bender where he gets dangerously destructive. Thematically, it reminds me a lot of the second half of One of My Turns by Pink Floyd. An almost manic sort of mood that seems happy on the surface, but is concealing a major crash out underneath.

Laplace’s Angel (Hurt People? Hurt people.) sounds like Bill’s nihilism on the whole, but reminds me of Bill trying to force his beliefs onto Mabel and nearly succeeding a few chapters ago in my fanfic. I love the line “neatly fold your skeletons but still can’t shut the closet door/ the only ones in need of love are the ones who don’t receive enough” it sounds like a very Bill Cipher-coded line. 😂

Chemical Overreaction/Compound Fracture is definitely Bill wrecking havoc on the Nightmare Realm and rising to power. Just wild chaos and dark undertones.

I actually haven’t heard much Will Wood before this so thanks for introducing me to a new band! 😁. I don’t mind a rant at all, sometimes it just takes a bit for me to sit down and listen and write a thoughtful answer. ☺️
