Premise: MC and ML, two members of a less-than-popular idol group who are less-than-friendly with each other, unexpectedly find themselves being shipped by fans, and receive instructions from management to capitalize on this shipping to boost their popularity. In the course of all of this, they get to know each other better and let go of misconceptions that they had of one another. How much philosophy, mathematics, and sudoku can we put in an idol book?

To be honest, I was not expecting to like this as much as I did. I started reading this only as part of a reading challenge, so I started this with low expectations after seeing some less-positive reviews and due to not really being interested in the genre.

So I was pleasantly surprised by how sold I was on Fang Juexia x Pei Tingsong. Soooooold.

Possibly my favorite slowburn. I did not expect my favorite slowburn to be in an idol book, but here we are. It goes into painstaking detail on how MC and ML fall in love.

I think what really sells me on them is that the book did a great job in convincing me from the get-go that the minimum baseline of their relationship is that they have each other's backs. From the beginning when they didn't even like each other, they'd stick up for each other consistently. Pei Tingsong with that phonecall and that stage performance. Fang Juexia and that photoshoot. They're loyal to each other as teammates. And then from there it made sense that they go "huh, he's not as bad as I thought, maybe" and take interest in knowing more about each other as they spend time in each other's company. And then of course that understanding develops into friendship. And then of course it develops further from there.

At no point did I ever think, "where did those feelings come from??" because IMO the progression made sense.

In this particular aspect, this book kind of retroactively lowers my rating for WFMAS a bit lmao ahaha sorry WFMAS

The way they try their best to understand each other. :)

Also, I was not expecting to google math terms as part of reading idol romance, but here we are. 😅

OTOH I found MC's angst about his birthmark being a hindrance to his dancing dreams kinda silly because concealers? Are a thing? Waterproof makeup exists? Am I missing something here??

The time-skip ending is an optimistic one. Some might find it too optimistic, but I'd like to think that it could be like that someday. :)

Those who prefer fast-paced plot-focused books might not enjoy this as much as I did, though.

Overall, I'm very happy that I tried this book :D

¿Qué puedo decir de esta novela? Realmente es una de las que más tenía ganas hace tiempo (la llevaba poniendo como opción ya 5 veces cada vez que preguntaba qué leer a continuación), y aunque inicialmente fue complejo encontrar una traducción, ¡no me rendí! Y fue la mejor decisión que pude tomar.

Demoré bastante en leerlo, pero porque no tuve mucho tiempo, aún así, se convirtió en una de mis favoritas e incluso leí los extras enseguida. Cuando en realidad, pocas veces leo los extras. Tiene pocos capítulos pero son extensos y aún así, ¡no es una lectura pesada! Al contrario, este autor tiene la capacidad de llevarte dentro de la historia y describir las escenas de una forma tan exquicita y detallada que es algo que realmente le aplaudo.

Pocas historias me hacen sumergir tanto en una lectura como esta novela, puedes ver con lujo detalle cada escena y tienen una cantidad de frases que te hacen suspirar. Aquí encontré mi confesión favorita de las lecturas que llevo del año y muchas más.

"¿Cómo se podría sumar, restar, multiplicar y dividir el amor?"

"Ron, saliva dulce, burbujas de coca-cola, pliegues internos de la boca, frambuesa y baileys, papilas gustativas en la punta de la lengua, leche y dientes lisos"

"Eran solo dos animales heridos, y cuando sangraban, sus temperaturas bajaban, por lo que no les quedó más remedio que abrazarse y sobrevivir aprovechando el calor del otro"

Aquí te presentan a un grupo de idols llamado Kaleido, poco conocido, que se esfuerzan en conseguir sus objetivos. Te muestra no solo una historia romántica, sino que además una realidad en el mundo del entretenimiento, rodeados de dificultades que poco a poco irán enfrentando. Los protagonistas inicialmente se ven obligados a crear una fan CP (fan couple, es decir, como crear realidad tu "shipp", llamado TingJue CP) debido a la popularidad que ganaron gracias a una escena entre ellos, quién diría que esto daría inicio a una pareja tan hermosa y que te haría gritar ¡esto es amor verdadero!

Parte como un rivals, avanzando hacia friends y terminando en lovers, todo el desarrollo que tienen a lo largo de la historia es precioso y leer el primer capítulo con el último, te das cuenta de cómo ambos influyeron en la vida del otro. Una relación bonita donde ambos se esfuerzan por acompañarse y aceptarse. Aparte de traerse una tensión tremenda, las escenas +18 de ellos es otro nivel de erotismo. Ver cómo Pei Tingsong y Fang Juexia se influyen y complementan para crecer y enfrentar sus miedos es algo emocionante.

Los personajes secundarios no se quedan atrás, pese a que igual me habría gustado una mayor interacción entre todos como grupo también entiendo el porqué no era tan así inicialmente pese a los años que llevaban juntos como Kaleido. Todos tienen esa chispa y encanto, incluso aquellos que aparecen apenas 5 capítulos, quedan en tu corazón. Cada uno destacando a su modo y las interacciones entre todos te sacan más de una carcajada.

Esta historia me hizo reír, llorar y chillar, la recomiendo enormemente si deseas leer algo no tan denso, entretenido y con una historia que te hará estremecer el corazón. ♡

Repito la capacidad de Zhichu de describir y detallar las escenas y sentimientos de los personajes porque te hacen sumergir en la lectura por completo. Estoy entusiasmado por leer otras de sus novelas.
