sorry hi last reblog has me thinking about how i havent played in awhile. i haven't been a fan of the recent updates they're far too 'content production'-y for me. but i just want to express i think many of the best moments in gw2 story have been when the writing is utter camp slop that the writers were clearly extremely emotionally invested in, completely regardless of their production timeframes or budget. my opinion basically is guild wars 2 is better when it's worse
#my stuff#technically id say pof had really high production value but it was also such an anomaly right#hot off the heels of HoT with both nothing and everything to lose#i admire their tactic of being like what can we do to redeem our objectively sort of mid mmo after our first xpac just bombed?#we know. kill the player character. [american psycho william dafoe forehead slap gif]#no but really i do think its a problem its trying to be more 'professional' now#its choking itself trying to do the same things that major riot and blizz releases do#where theyre really high budget polished formulaic. like a marvel movie#except gw2 doesnt even have that budget now still so what theyre effectively accomplishing is choking the soul out of it#while also making it less unique compared to every other comparable product out there#i dont think people really like mmos because theyre 'good' they like them because theyre fun and generally let you do whatever you want#i think ones that do a better job financially seem to be ones that focus foremost on how fun combat is#and secondly how much they can indulge the player in various silly whimsies. which involve money#this is often why the stories are great. and camp. because they are often shafted and therefore bad#and therefore some random gay writer can shoehorn in whatever weird eccentric horseslop they want#random stealth trans writer whos cubicle has dune figurines in it: yeah this chapter will mostly focus on the main characters emotional --#conflicts and bodily autonomy juxtaposed with the lore of our magic universe's growing entropy#execs: ok. well can that be gamified? is it toyetic?#writer: yeah sure#execs: right sounds fine we'll just ship whatever it is then#but then they start firing everyone and bringing in third parties who write based off 'market research' and not vibes or art#and thats when it gets actual bad bad

I don't understand tax withholding
#largely because phd stipend doesn't have it#but like. for my summer job i get one pay chunk that's officially around 5200 but it deposits at 3900#whereas for my church job last year i got paid in chunks of 2000 that deposited at 1800#like that's a much bigger discrepancy than paying taxes in 2 states for the summer job accounts for right?#sorry to be talking money but to be fair the bear is talking money A Lot#and i'm supposed to get a quote for movers to compare with pods and just. money is such a thing#oh yeah and i have to get car repairs (expected and not bad but still)#objectively i'm in a wonderful financial situation for a person in my position and i'm very grateful!#but it's not to the point of changing my position. you know?#still a renter still thrifting still no retirement fund (that's next on the list)#(if i play my cards right this summer i will end up with the equivalent in savings of my remaining student loan#which feels like a great thing!)

While I'm shilling my little heart out, I made a Bluesky account this week! I don't think Tumblr is going anywhere, so this is more of a networking move than an "I'm leaving forever in a blind panic" move. I like it here! It's so quiet, and you can run so much custom code to throttle the dashboard into not looking like Twitter! I don't know why every site wants to look like Twitter!
Anyways, I'm picking two pieces a day from my archive and throwing them on Bluesky, M-F. You can enjoy whatever oldie art I'm not too embarrassed to post from the last five years.

If you aren't paying rent and you and your gf both have full time jobs then what exactly are you spending your money on? You make it sound like it's a struggle but you literally don't have rent?
for one i’m working on saving
i have a car payment, insurance, student loan payment, gas and groceries. i spend a little under or over 2/3 of what i make right now in a month if i dont buy anything else, or travel to see my gf at all
the point is that i don’t really have a struggle right now but i literally cannot afford to move out. i feel guilty about feeling bad about having it objectively good? if that makes sense.
like, i’d honestly rather be paying rent if i could afford it, but at our current jobs, if me and my gf moved in together, we’d be in the red by a little which is bad no matter how much you save ahead of time because it’s savings not last forever money and that should be for emergencies. i just wiped a bunch of my savings for the down payment on a car because my old one was a piece of shit that broke down all the time.
i’m lucky my family doesn’t charge me rent but it’s exhausting feeling like i have no prospects. i have a pretty useless ass degree and the job market sucks. i’m lucky to have the job i do but i could only advance there so far without the right degree and that’s looking at more school when i already have debt. i feel stupid for chasing my dreams and wasting money.

It's really sad seeing so many artists I follow announce that they won't be doing art fight this year because they feel like they dissapoint so many people by not attacking back. The purpose of art fight is to have fun drawing other people's oc! It's not supposed to be a month-long art trade!!!
#obvs i dont blame the artists at all!#i just wish there was less pressure on bigger artists to revenge as many people as possible#of course its cool to recieve artwork of your character from an artist you admire!#and the best way you can do that is by supporting them financially!!#not. drawing something for them and then expecting them to do the same for you#especially during a month-long event where the main objective is to Draw as Much as You Can as Fast as You Can#even tho its fun its also incredibly draining lol#i usually take a few weeks off from drawing afterwards#and i dont even get that many attacks#idk idk. i love artists and i want them all to frolic in a field of enjoying making art

Thinking about it Nickloon probably would be legally married for financial reasons but not consider each other their spouse. Calling the other their husband just feels...wrong, to them. But I genuinely think Nickel makes good financial decisions, he's a strategist after all. And they're nesting partners so they probably just signed the paper work and then forgot about it

#literally just currently thinking about Daud and The Flooded District and metaphor and the concept of The Narrative and roles#and being Serkonan and not really being Part of this but also you're indelibly part of it and being removed from it all#and how everything in this district does not matter and how everything here matters more than anything#Daud as gleefully engaging in the metaphor on purpose until he is being driven mad that nobody else sees the tandem of the narrative themes#The Flooded District as both the heart (haha) of the symbolism but also so distant from the meat of the narrative and what Corvo cares abou#being so genre aware it becomes like eldritch horror to you. being so far from what matters that suddenly your actions are more meaningful#this gang of butchers in a figurative butcher's market (the former Financial District) laying on top of a former literal butcher's place#this height of metaphor that is also so removed from the narrative that anything you do here doesn't “matter” per se#against a villain who is cracking under feeling he is the only one truly WITNESSING it all and is trying to exit the narrative#and that is the one place where you can choose actual mercy—BECAUSE of these things#the first real mission in the game where your only objective is to get out. where revenge is truly optional. where mercy is real and true.#among these assassins called whalers. in a flooded financial district overrun with plague where they butchered the first leviathans.#“And yet you choose... mercy.
