This is probably a question I could ask on a search engine, but I’m not really sure how to summarize it effectively. I’m a trans man with breasts that are, by most health suggestions, a little too big to bind safely (and I have chest-constriction issues anyway). But I’m trying to get into wearing suits, and men always seem to be wearing a tank top of some sort underneath? I don’t know what it’s called, but I figure it would help preserve my shirts and affect my silhouette

I know you’ve been dressing like this for a long time and stuff, so websites may have changed and so on, but do you have any suggestions for what those tank tops are called (are they just normal ones?) and what brand or cut might be best for such a suit while having boobs? I already bought two sets I like and I don’t want to ruin them with sweat or some such.

You’re always so well dressed and while I don’t think I want to dress quite so formally/historically all the time, I think it’ll help me overall. Thanks!

You are just looking for an undershirt - it can be a tank top or short sleeved. The extra layer keeps sweat, oil, and deodorant off your good clothing, making your dress shirts last longer. I also think it's attractive paired with a camp shirt for a casual look.

Counter-intuitively, you actually want an undershirt in warm weather - it will soak up the sweat nicer than a woven shirt.

The style is pretty much up to you. I generally like thin, short-sleeved t-shirts (no pocket!) or henleys (these are t-shirts with 2-3 buttons at the collar) with long-sleeved button-downs, and tank tops for short sleeved shirts.

If you sweat a lot, start with short sleeved undershirts.

A t-shirt tends to have the highest neckline, a tank top lower, and an henley, somewhere in-between. It's up to you how much undershirt you want to show when you unbutton your dress shirt collar. (Vintage looks, the neckline is quite low and requires a few buttons undone to see.)

Color-wise, I have whites and creams, and a few greys and blacks.

Opt for cotton instead of a poly blend. Because it is underwear, it'll also fit closer to your body than a typical t-shirt, so err on the side of form fitting. It won't really do much for binding - again, this is all to keep your good shirts clean (and it also kind of obscures your nips, for those of us who don't bind or wear a bra).

If you don't know what to start with, grab a Kohl's coupon (assuming you're in the US) and get a multi-pack of undershirts to see what you like.

If you're looking for vintage looks (necklines tend to be lower across all 3 styles of shirt), I suggest:

Once you find styles and sizes you like, get about 8 or so for starters, then rotate them out as they get gross.

Held off on this because it's becoming disheartening to see a lot of the BoB Tumblr research reposted or remastered with dubious credit, but at the end of the day I really want people to know about Norma Jean Darland Grant, Chuck Grant's wife.

Norma, I don't even know where to start with you. As I dive into the records to find people and make their stories known, nobody has had so much tragedy and absolutely bizarre circumstances revolving around their lives as you. I've never wanted to reach back in time and give someone a hug so badly as I do with this lady. I hope Chuck was your sunshine, I hope you found happiness, I wish you were not the victim of circumstances beyond your control.

Norma was born in Mahaska. Co, Iowa on February 11, 1923. Her father George was a farmer. Her mother Mable Moody Darland , was the daughter of a farmer. She had an older brother Donald. In 1925 they moved to Newton, Iowa, then ended up in Detroit.

Full stop, because George Darland...holy shit did this guy get into everything. And I do mean unbelievable non-stop news. In 1920 George was tearing down a cow barn with his father in law, barn collapses, father in law gets scalped. They have to take William Moody to town on a stretcher, George has a broken shoulder and helps carry him, Moody ends up with 21 stitches and no broken bones. In 1921 George , recently recovered from pneumonia, pulls some Oregon Trail shit and tries to get to his corn farming island in the river when the ferry rope broke, wagon fell off the barge, his team drowns and he almost drowns under one of them. Even the paper is like "damn, this is the unluckiest guy in Iowa." Oh...it's only 1921. Just wait.

He also got into a fight with some guy in town and got busted up earlier that summer, something about a cheese knife and billiard cue and- no- the article does not explain that. Oh, and don't forget the spreading viper he decided to catch in September. Throw in a modest sprained ankle in 1922. There are a few years without news, and I am sure it's just because it's not available to us a 100 years later, yet.

Mable Moody Darland dies in Detroit in 1929, of diffuse peritonitis, after what appears to have been a two year stint in the city to work at Braggs Mfg. After Mable dies, George goes home and the kids are at his parents in Barnes City while he heads to Des Moines to work for his brother. In 1930 Norma Jean writes to Santa and breaks my heart.

However, earlier that year in 1930 George gets involved in the B.O. Darland Grocery Store bullshit and gets shot. Here's the story.: There is a cop, William J. Aiken, who lives a few houses down from George's brother Bert and his family. George's brother Bert has a grocery store on the corner. George is working for him even though the census says he's a mechanic. Mrs. Aiken might be getting more than groceries from Darland's Grocery store. Husband goes to drag her out of the store, punches Bert, draws a gun, gun goes off and George is shot in the leg, then Aiken kicks the shit out of his wife all while Aiken's partner sits in the car and doesn't watch. Trial ensues, Aiken says he used the gun as a club to defend himself and doesn't know who's finger pulled the trigger. Front page Des Moines news, complete with maps! The Judge dismissed the case against Aiken, but Aiken loses his job as detective, and is also later arrested for bootlegging. Wild Norma has not one, but two, men in her life who get shot for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This poor girl.

It seems George rebounded and found a new Mabel to marry, Mabel Kerr in 1931. Mabel #2's husband Jack, a coal miner who had been working the mines since he was orphaned at 9, was arrested for bootlegging. That left her and their 6 children out of luck as Jack was sentenced to 3 months in jail and a fine of $300. Well, along came the unluckiest guy in Iowa and they were married at her sister's house in Raritan, Illinois in 1931. (If you think Raritan sounds familiar it's because Raritan, NJ was home of Basilone. The Raritan River was where the Nixon Nitration Works was located on. People from this area in NJ left in the 1850s to go start a town with NJ names in Illinois just to fuck with me.)

In 1932 in Tracey, Iowa the schoolhouse George and family are living in, burns down. How much family? Unclear.

1933 rolls around. In Des Moines, Darland's Grocery-- Bert specifically--gets robbed at gunpoint March 16, for $15, milk, sugar, butter and eggs. The same day Jack Kerr visits his family in Albia. George dies March 30, 1933 in Oskaloosa?(maybe?) and I have no idea how. Mabel #2 moves on an remarries in 1938, and her Kerr kids go with her and the Darland kids eventually go west with the Darland family to LA. Norma lives with her aunt Mrytle Darland Morrow and goes to school in Santa Monica. Bert Darland moves west too, restarts the grocery business out there and sells it a few times. He avoids being shot, but a poodle did bite him at one point and couldn't be found so Bert probably got a lot of painful Rabies shots.

George is buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery where Mable #1 is, along with loads of Mable #2 family. There is a death notice in the paper, no obit. 'What Killed George Darland' haunts me because this man survived so much and there is no news about what finally got him.

Back to Norma . She goes to Santa Monica High School. Joins the World Friendship Club and Riding Club. In 1938 is at a party celebrating the engagement of her cousin Thelma. She joins the marines in 1943 and by war's end is a corporal. She is stationed at Miramar in San Diego, muster roll says she is with the aviation women's reserve squadron. In 1945 is maid of honor for a fellow marine friend. On her marriage certificate in Nov 1946 she lists her residence as Santa Monica.

How does she meet Chuck Grant who at this point has been out of the hospital a year and is dealing with paralysis and speech issues? Another burning question. However in November 1946 they go to Vegas with Chuck's friend Keith Morgan and his wife and get married. They move to San Diego where she becomes a cashier at the Naval Training Station. 40 hours a week as a payroll clerk. Chuck is used as an example of Navy efforts to assist wounded veterans in a newspaper article, possibly because Norma is working there. They have their first son Dan in 1947 and Charles Jr in 1951.

Then in September 8, 1954, Norma ODs. 7am Chuck goes to the bedroom and finds her, takes the kids to a friends house in Clairemont, and returns to call the cops at 9:15 am and answer questions. He told the detective he wanted to spare the kids the details of their mother's death and didn't want them present from the inquiry. It is ultimately ruled a suicide by the coroner, overdose by barbiturates.

Norma Jean Darland Grant was cremated and is buried in Rosecrans military cemetery in San Diego under her maiden name. I don't know if Chuck just signed off on paperwork and didn't correct it or what. The burial form stipulates there are interment rights in her grave but he ends up buried in Forest Lawn in LA instead.

Norma was 31 years old. From what we can tell, Chuck never remarried.

For every fact we unearth, we still gain no insight into Chuck's personality. But we've earned those Oregon Trail T-Shirts for learning about George. Thank you for listening to my screaming in the inbox because every. damned. person in Chuck Grant's orbit has some truly messed up shit in their lives. This post is a summary of months of research that has been interesting for sure.

What do you like about elejah? I never thought about klonnie and elejah happening in tandem but hmmm

Elijah is one of those characters who has interesting pairings. I find myself enjoying most of them anyway. I like the differences in their personalities. Elijah claims he acts in nobility but he constantly has an inner agenda that may only benefit himself/or his family. At the end of the day he is this violent person. Elena she cared so much about other people and wanted to fight for them. She was hurt after she made her first kill. I think Elena reminded Elijah of what he wished his family was like.

Anyway. Elena as a human boldly negotiated with him and you can see how she thrived when she has some leverage over others. Elena ruined her friends plans with Esther because she believed Elijah deserved to live. It’s just kinda interesting how theirs plenty of back and forth between the MFG/Mikaelsons but Elena still thought to trust him. Elijah mourned her loss of humanity. I can’t help but be intrigued.

In a Klonnie sense I could see Klaus forcing Elena to help him win Bonnie. Elena has known Bonnie all her life and will support ALL of Bonnie’s wrongs 😭 alahsjs. I giggle at Bonnie talking about seeing Shane and Elena was just smiling “I’m not judging…” when Shane/Bonnie very well thread on the student x teacher romance in media. Elijah would scold Klaus on this and probably warn him to leave Bonnie alone. Klaus could retaliate by mentioning Elena for him. Tit for tat.

I know Elijah typically praised for “loving older women” but lol Nina played both Katherine and Elena. I hardly ever seen anyone bring that discussion up for them. I like them too. Hayley to me isn’t that much different than Katherine. We just got to see her with her child over another. Elijah loves being a savior to women but Elena never wanted to be saved.

This is just a random tidbit idk when it became bad to ship characters of the same franchise when I used to use Reddit/other platforms (here too tbh) people would act so… high mighty. “TO is mature! You can’t place… with” okay, you enjoy your canon think-pieces and fics. I’m having fun. None of this franchise was written well for you to be acting so.. prideful?!

I know people LOVE the maturity arguments but if TVD characters (Salvatore’s etc) are immature then the Mikaelson’s should be considered in the same standard, worst maybe because theirs a baby-teen on there. (A Follow-Up To This Post, "Eurobeat On Its Own Terms")

In the previous post, my opening paragraph included this:

The path forward for eurobeat as a genre will not be built on re-establishing its connection with Initial D/MF Ghost, nor will it be through associations with dance games or fandoms such as My Little Pony or Touhou. The path forward for eurobeat will be built on eurobeat’s ability to exist and be loved on its own rights and merits.

I'm realizing that without clarification on some of this, I run the risk of seeming hypocritical— I do intend to release Vtuber remixes in the near future, and possibly more MLP:FiM material. As well, I firmly believe that eurobeat appearing in Initial D and MF Ghost is a good thing. How can this be consistent with the previous statements?

It's as simple as this: Eurobeat's problem is an external implication that the associations are somehow MANDATORY, not that the associations exist. Eurobeat about drifting cars or ponies or vtubers or rhythm games has every right to exist and flourish, and is still a net positive for the genre's existence (if not also a wonderful opportunity to potentially reach new audiences in those spheres). The problem arises when people believe that Eurobeat MUST be about those things, or that the genre's purpose is to serve as an accessory to those things.

Yes, I see a problem with an assumption that eurobeat MUST be about cars and drifting. It's a direct and measurable problem (at the very least, count comments on various eurobeat songs on YouTube on the matter, or even in a short I made about exploring the bridge between Eurobeat and Vtubers). But that doesn't mean that eurobeat about about cars and drifting needs to stop being made or enjoyed-- the subject matter lends itself well to Eurobeat's fast pace, there's no sense in denying the genre a creative muse.

Instead of delving into the possible funnels and flows new fans experience in the genre, I think I'd like to explain how I'd LIKE for it to go, and how I'm hoping to position my own efforts.

Fan finds Eurobeat that relates to their interest (Initial D/MFG, MLP:FiM, Vtubers, etc). Fan enjoys this song.

Fan finds OTHER Eurobeat works, maybe ALSO about those things. Fan enjoys these tracks too.

Fan is pointed to original works from those same producers. As simple as "if you liked [Eurobeat song about y], you may like [x]" curated from that producer.

Fan is (hopefully) pleased at this entry in the genre, checks out more Eurobeat that isn't just about [y].

Obviously, it's not so simple. It can be extremely hard to pivot from fan-work or songs about one subject, to original/thematically unrelated works and carry those new fans with you— fans of your song about [y] may be more of a fan of [y] than they are of your song. Eurobeat is not immune to this.

But this is how people DO decide that the genre is for them. Plenty of fans of the genre-- of Eurobeat, for itself-- found their way through remixes by DJ Command, DJ Bouche, Turbo, A-One Records, Vikas, Anthony McBazooka, whatever the case may be. It is BECAUSE those works exist, that fans found their way here. And, yes, it'd be preferable if people fell in love with the genre through completely original means (that is, through hearing a eurobeat song that isn't directly connected to something else), but at this time the genre doesn't have much of that luxury.

These are necessary bridges, even if they should not bear the full weight of the genre.

So-- I intend to create original works, AND inspired works/remixes/etc of other things. These not only coexist, but support each other. After a big enough body of work, it IS possible to point fans of an "associated" song to an original work. Sure, you don't get everyone on board, but it's worth it for those who do give it a shot.

...I had more steam for this post earlier, but I think I'm too tired to keep writing. I hope I've made my point: "Associated" works should still exist, even if Eurobeat could benefit from an increased focus on promoting and celebrating original works just as much as these associated works tend to be.

Remember, Eurobeat is a genre of "and", not "or". If I haven't written about that philosophy yet, that'll be for another day.

I see you've watched TVD and I really like your takes on the show, especially with the whole Klaroline bs. I wanted to ask, what do you think about Enzo? As a character, the role he played in the show, his dynamic with Damon and Bonnie, and especially the way he was killed off. I think Julie sucks for taking away Bonnie's happiness for no reason but what's new...

Enzo would have been an interesting character to explore from the beginning, alongside Damon's PTSD and Elena's guilt for her father's actions.

They should have showed the flashbacks of Damon's past in the Augustine society in the beginning of the season and then he finds out Enzo is alive, tells Elena and Stefan what happened to him and they free Enzo. All of this before episode ten. And then the organisation (that would be pretty big) goes after them and as always the MFG has to solve it.

None of the traveller shit, just humans doing awful things. A whole organisation and that's what they have to deal with that season. Bonnie and Enzo's romance should have started at the beginning, love triangle with Jeremy, as she deserves, but ultimately she decides and chooses Enzo.

That's my take on this.

Klaus: I hate that Bennett witch always getting in my way. Wolf: Mate her. Take her. Claim her as your own. Klaus: how does she keep besting me! Wolf: sniff her! Bite her! Mate! Mate! Mate! Klaus: she's a threat to my power. Wolf: breed her, you fool!

You know, it is kinda funny how Klaus never seeks revenge on Bonnie. She is constantly getting in the way of his plans and he doesn't seem to care. When he finds out Elena is still alive, Bonnie takes full responsibility in hope that he'll direct all his anger at her. He doesn't though. It's almost like something in side of him is preventing him from lashing out at her. Maybe his wolf has a crush on her.

This could be a fun Jekyll and Hyde situation. The vampire half of Klaus is attracted to Bonnie's power but knows what a danger she is. The vampire half prioritizes survival knows it's safer to place distance between himself and Bonnie. The wolf half does not care. The wolf half sees Bonnie as an equal. She's the perfect mate. Determined, compassionate, strong and fierce. She would be a natural mother to their wolf pups. Bonnie would be very confused when Klaus shifts from distant and arrogant to charming and seductive at any random moment.

Excluding trying to kill hope/Hayley, what are your thoughts on the whole Klaus and Tyler situation?

I told myself I wasn't going to answer any more asks today but I loved this one too much.

Tyler Lockwood is one of the most over-hated and underrated characters in TVD.

Just focusing on what Klaus did to him and not even his trauma from his parents and friends, Tyler's pain is so overlooked. I think the best way to discuss Tyler and Klaus is just to lay it all out.

Tyler and Klaus' first interaction is when Tyler is forced back to Mystic Falls because Klaus has someone attack his mother. This is their first interaction, Klaus harming Tyler's mother to manipulate him. Klaus could have chosen a different werewolf but targeted Tyler for whatever reason. Klaus then traps him with Caroline on a full moon and he nearly kills Caroline.

Their next interaction is Klaus killing Tyler. He does so with little remorse or concern about whether Tyler will survive the transformation as no one had before. He survives and becomes sired to Klaus, who abuses it and essentially enslaves his hybrids. Everyone likes to get mad at sired Tyler, but he has limited bodily autonomy. This is a major violation that the show glosses over. Klaus uses this to make Tyler harm the people he loves. The MFG seems to have a lot less sympathy for Tyler than anyone else who suffered from sire bonds or even villainous charm. Elena also did bad things under Damon's sire bond, but everyone blamed Damon. Tyler gets the full blame and anger from his friends instead of understanding or helping. Everyone likes to credit Klaus for saving Caroline's life on her birthday, but Klaus ruined her birthday by forcing her boyfriend to nearly kill her. Tyler, who hates Klaus, has to go to him and beg him to save the girl he loves.

Because of the sire bond to Klaus who forced him to harm his friends, specifically Caroline, Tyler recruits Bill Forbes, someone known for torturing supernaturals, to help break his sire bond. He then leaves to break the bond. He subjects himself to hours of torture and pain so that he won't ever have to hurt his family again. He comes back from this pain to find Klaus flirting with his girlfriend. Klaus then possesses Tyler's body without his consent for a matter of time.

Tyler then works with Hayley and the other wolves to free them of Klaus' enslavement. Klaus kills their friend, thanks to the help of the MFG. Not only does Klaus kill his friend, Caroline agrees to go on a date with Klaus in exchange for killing his friend.

Klaus then proceeds to murder all of Tyler's hybrid friends and then his mother, the last family member Tyler had. Klaus once again tries to kill Caroline to control Tyler and makes Tyler beg him to save her life. Klaus forces Tyler to run once again, forcing him from his friends and family. Before he leaves though, he leaves his home to Matt so Caroline will have a safe place to hide from Klaus. Even when Tyler tries to sneak back into town to have one dance with his girlfriend at prom, Klaus shows up to chase him out again.

Tyler then seeks revenge against Klaus.

Given everything, Tyler is completely justified in going after Klaus. Is it a bad plan? Sure. He can't kill Klaus and even if he could, he would die with him. But that's not the point. The point was Klaus cost Tyler everything. He tortured Tyler for months, attempting to steal his girlfriend while doing it. He murdered his mother in cold blood all because Tyler helped free the enslaved hybrids and himself. Klaus was a monster.

We see many characters seek revenge for things much less serious and are supported. Klaus is celebrated for murdering people for no reason. Tyler didn't even only act for himself but for all of the wolves Klaus planned to enslave. Tyler was completely in the right and the show/characters spent too much time trying to make Tyler seem like the bad guy.

I only wish Tyler had lived long enough to know Klaus died. Tyler deserved so much better than the hell Klaus put him through. He didn't get a break for years all because of Klaus' petty jealousies and insecurities.

Tyler was a better man than Klaus any day of the week. Yes, he's done some bad things but the fact that so many terrible men are celebrated and Tyler is constantly attacked is so questionable to me.

That line about katherine being a myth and a legend sounded ooc coming from kai katherine already is a overrated villain and we are supposed to believe he would have this respect for her over bonnie who killed the devil when all katherine did was use her whims to manipulate cade they had kai there why not just make him the villain over katherine

No clue why they decided to juggle Kai and Katherine at the same time as villains 😭 .They were a weird mashup imo

Though I think maybe they paired Kai and Katherine up on purpose to try and divert attention away from Kai x Bonnie, sort of like a "hey everyone look what about these two instead" -and certain people definitely ate that pairing up.

Kai and Katherine have pretty big personalities, Katherine's kind of a narcissist and Kai's...well, Kai. Even though they're both antagonists who are at odds with the MFG, doesn't mean they would get along and be this perfect pair, though it seemed that maybe that's what the writers wanted us to think about those two.

In fact, I think Kai's dynamic with Katherine would be a bit like his dynamic with Damon (not when they made Damon and Kai buddy buddy for no reason but like their initial dynamic through season 6) -like on paper Damon and Kai kinda seem similar in that they have a "devil may care" attitude, they can be tricky and they've got murderous tendencies. But they did not get along/ like each other.

Damon and Kai both like the sound of their own voice too much, they both like to be the one to be in control of a situation, -so it makes much more sense they'd likely be annoyed by eachother /dislike each other -so their season 6 dynamic made much more sense than when the writers switched it up to make them besties.

(In season 6 Kai and Damon seemed to best case scenario- only tolerate eachother or be sort of indifferent to eachother, there were also times they were outright annoyed/ hostile to eachother, also seemed like Kai said certain things on purpose in order to provoke a reaction from Damon and get him riled up- and it always seemed to work too lmaooo, I think Kai definitely knew how to push Damons buttons, it was light work for him lol -tho let's be honest Damon isn't know for his restraint)

no one asked but here's what I would do if I could rewrite the Parkers arc on TVD:

starting out Kai would leave after taking Jo's magic. I don't even care where he goes or if his final line in season six is "have a good life, sissy" but my boy would disappear and go run free for a while and leave mystic falls behind. So no second stent in a prison world or being a blood-bag for a bunch of heretics (like y'all wonder why he came back to the wedding swinging).

so yes, Jo would somehow make it through the wedding unscathed, leaving Caroline out of the horrible gemini baby incubator plot line.

Liv and Tyler get back together post wedding gate, and in season 7 they're hopefully enjoying college and making plans for the future. She's still broken up about Luke, obviously, but she's finding ways to heal. He's helping her, she's helping him, they're healthy and adorable and 100% on track for marriage.

In season 7 we'd see Jo and Ric adjusting to pregnancy/parenthood, with the mystic falls gang rallying around them to help.

We'd get an occasional check in on Kai: i want him off being ridiculous on islands and in europe and just vibing being a menace wherever he'd like; maybe the MFG call him for magical advice since he's wicked smart where the witch histories are involved or maybe hes still hung up on bonnie and calling every few months to see if she misses him yet (she'll never admit she does).

In Season 8, the saltzman girls start to get their powers. The gang hasn't heard from Kai in a while, maybe we haven't even seen him in town since he left in season 6. But he shows up unannounced one afternoon on Jo and Ric's porch (they've upped to a family house) asking if he's missed dinner. It's a holiday: my boys got an awful sweater on, a baked good in one hand and a sack of presents for the girls in the other. I'd also like a santa hat with a little bell if it's christmas.

The loophole about Jo saying she'd kill him if he ever came back is that now she's a mom, and the girls are confirmed witches (which makes them official members of the coven) so if he dies they die, and he doesn't think Jo will kill her own kids.

Obviously he's right, so a super weird and uncomfortable "family" dinner ensues. The girls have no idea who he is at first, but they're thrilled to meet a new Uncle. They have questions about their mom growing up, and questions about Kai now and where he lives, and Josie, especially, has questions about what's wrong with them.

Lizzy is nervous around new people, but Josie isn't even the tiniest bit afraid of him. She peppers him with question after question, hardly letting him catch his breath:

If he's a siphon like her, how come he has magic of his own now? Can she ever have that, too? Does letting her magic drain out ever stop hurting? Will she ever be as good a witch as Lizzy? Why were they born like this?

And Kai can't help but fall for her. No one answered his questions when he was a kid, so he takes his time telling her the truth now. He still doesn't know why the spirits did this to them and not their sisters - but there's nothing stopping Josie from being as powerful as she wants to be.

(Except him, of course, but she doesn't need to know that.)

At dinner, Jo and Ric sit at either end of the table, and Kai sits in the middle across from the girls. Lizzy's warmed up to him now and keeps asking him for special tricks. They haven't seen a real witch except for Aunt Bonnie, and having one so close for the evening - let alone someone they're actually related to, is a novelty they can't pass up.

Suddenly Kai flicks his wrist, and the girls freeze in their seats. "They're cuter than I thought they'd be," he admits.

"What did you do to them?" Ric growls, starting to stand. But Kai keeps him in his seat with another wave of his hand, smiling at both of them.

"We need to have a little chat," he tells them, "grown ups only."

"So send them to their rooms," Jo snaps, "we don't use magic on our children-,"

"Oh nice," Kai nods, "good on you for breaking the family traditions. But this will only take a moment, sissy, and they won't remember a thing. Pinky promise."

"Fine," Jo says, "what is it?"

"Simple question," Kai sighs. "I know which one of them is my favorite, but how about you two?"

Jo and Ric can only stare at him.

"You probably like Lizzy best, right?" Kai asks, rolling his eyes at Jo. "But what about you, Ric? Does Josie being a little freak bother you? Or does it not really matter, since you've never been a witch anyway?"

"Kai-," Jo tries to stop him, but he brushes her off.

"Don't pretend you don't have a secret favorite," he says. "You and I both know every parent does. Now tell me which one it is, and I'll unfreeze them."

"Why would I ever do that?" Jo asks. "I don't HAVE a favorite, I love them both."

"Well," Kai hums. "I suppose I could kill them both, if it's what you want. But between us it only really needs to be one of them. I thought you'd at least want to pick which one you got to keep."

He flicks his wrist, and the girls go back to peppering him with questions. Jo and Ric exchange panicked, horrified glances.

"Why are you two looking at me like that?" Kai asks, making sparks dance on his fingers for the girls. "I'm being nice, or did you miss the part where I said you could keep one of them?"

Later, after Ric and Jo have had a heated debate on what they should or shouldn't do, Jo takes the girls into the living room where Kai's waiting.

"Oof, bit harsh, sissy," he says, standing, "making one of them watch?"

Jo doesn't say anything, she just stops before him, the girls standing between them.

"Who's it going to be?" He asks, cracking his knuckles.

"I don't know," Jo says, "because I can't decide, and I'm not going to."

Kai tips his head back, groaning. "Come on, that wasn't the deal-,"

"I didn't agree to any deal," she reminds him, keeping a tight grip on each of her daughters. "I love them both, Kai, equally. If you want me to pick Lizzy because she's the easier option, I'm not going to do it. Josie is just as much a witch as any of us, and I'm not going to give up on her just because we might have hard days. I'm their mother, I can't make this choice."

Kai glares at her, knowing where she's headed.

"So if this is really what you want to do, then you look at your nieces right now," she orders, "and pick."

Kai rolls his eyes. This is her big plan?

Fine, easy.

He drops down to his knees before the girls, looking at each of them. Josie shuffles a bit closer, tugging the edge of his sleeve.

He stares at them, and they stare right back at him. It should be easy - but it isn't. Josie has his eyes, his hair, his curse. And Lizzy can't shut up to save her life, she's twitching now with the need to ask him something else.

"You're both so - small," he says, one hand on each of their cheeks. "You're kids," his eyes flick up to where Jo still stands above them, "they're just kids."

"I know," Jo agrees, "so were we."

Putting aside poor planning/writing (being a TVD fan is painful lol), do you have a canonical explanation why Kai might've completely reverted to his pre-merge self?

I love seeing that man struggle with the influx of emotions he has shut off for so long. The scene where he's trying to kill Liv, but Luke is so obviously the one holding him back, or when he realises that touching Bonnie's hands would be traumatic after all he's done to her. It's so delicious and angsty.

The whole personality-merge is genuinely an interesting direction for his story, but a part of me does like that they didn't soften him too much. I'm not sold on the idea that he would've had a complete personality change; it's tragic, but his emotional and behavioural responses caused by his abusive upbringing wouldn't suddenly disappear imo. I just wish they hadn't turned him into an over-the-top comical villain in the end. It cheapens all he's been through, idk.

Basically, I need to see Kai struggle with empathy, while still maintaining that unhinged part of himself, yk?

Anyway, back to my point: Do you think it could be that Kai is constantly battling against Luke's influence, but choosing to ignore it?

i totally agree, kai is 100% at his best when he's trying to find that balance, i think it makes him vastly more interesting than whatever they had going on in s8. i also love his moments like: 'hey why don't i reanimate your dead parents for a tea party while i'm at it? sorry - insensitive' because it's so fascinating/funny watching him try to navigate the changes he's suddenly going through.

I talked about it in my gemini coven vid but i don't think kai stops being sociopathic post-merge. i always write in some PTSD for him as well, because as you said his upbringing doesn't just vanish from his memory. those things shaped him and as bonnie says 'the old you is still inside of you'. he is different, but his past is always going to haunt him.

if anything i think luke just mends the gaps and it leaves kai with this weird mix of his original instincts and new urges to do things differently that he doesn't fully understand. sociopaths know right from wrong, so pre-merge kai knows he's being horrible there's just nothing in him that cares fully one way or another. post-merge he's confronted with the fact that he'll feel guilt now, so he has to rationalize if his actions are worth it or not.

at the end of the day even with luke's influence he's still himself, and i've always felt like his post-merge, pre-1903 personality is the closest we get to seeing who he actually is. i think his humor, arrogance and snark get worse with his sociopathy, but those are also just baseline traits he already had pre-trauma. we see them reflected in jo, too, considering she's also kind of mean even on her good days. like remember when she told ric his name was so stupid he couldn't be trusted to name other humans? the twins aren't exactly nice, imo, but they're funny enough for things to be brushed off as jokes most of the time (at least where jo's concerned).

in all honesty, the red wedding itself isn't a total stretch if you're looking strictly at kai pre-merge. i mean he straight up told us he wanted to kill them, that can't be denied. but the problem is that then they have all this time go by where he never attacks anyone and he's clearly changing, so it all falls apart if you look at it linearly.

for me personally, i have to imagine that his time in 1903 with the heretics convinced him that the coven couldn't be changed. he was confronted with proof, for presumably the first time, that he wasn't the first/only siphon, and the abuse he faced as a child was the most recent in a long line of systematic cruelty. when you add in that he was abandoned by bonnie/the mfg (after apologizing and helping save her life - because he doesn't know she doesn't know that he did that on her birthday) and then jo not coming to help him (after he apologized and agreed/stood by leaving her alone) AND the coven itself throwing him away even though he's literally earned the title of leader - it's easy to see why he would snap again.

still, i think we should have seen a little more hesitation or something to show us luke was against it. we know he fought back trying to save liv once, so i can't imagine him being like 'eh, you know what? you're right big brother, burn it all down' especially in the middle of jo's wedding. that's always going to feel like an impossibility to me, but the only way to view it in canon is that kai pushed him away and just did what he wanted to do regardless of how luke was reacting. kai goes back to having a super deadened expression several times in the red wedding scenes, and i know chris talked about us 'watching his eyes' at one point to explain the ending and show us that kai was 100% bad evil scary cannot be redeemed ever again - but then at the same time he looks at jo when he says 'when your family decides' and then dies beside her like ??? bro, come on.

i really love exploring his post-merge connection with luke in fanon because the ambiguity is annoying and i think just further shows the fact that it's riddled with plot holes. it shouldn't work the way it does in canon, because up until the red wedding we were told/shown repeatedly that it didn't.

in my fic Hits Different luke is like a voice of reason for kai but also just himself in the back of kai's mind; they have mini conversations and it's implied luke talked him out of blowing up fully while they were locked up with the heretics in 1903. at the same time, luke DID NOT want him to turn jo at the wedding, but kai did it anyway because he felt like it was the best way to 'keep them together forever' since he was going to transition and luke insisted he needed jo's help; so luke can't fully control him (and as the writer i know that he doesn't want to - it's more important for kai to actually be changing instead of luke puppeteering him).

in Heavy in Your Arm's kai is actively pushing luke away and avoiding interacting/acknowledging him at all. this is messy already and i'm only in chapter 4; it's leaving kai with headaches and will lead to some freak outs/lost time because he's only hurting himself by hurting luke

but yeah, anon, i think ultimately the red wedding unfolds because kai is able to ignore the parts of luke begging him not to. it sucks, and for me it's pretty OOC considering what we saw back in jan/feb, but you can argue that it was also exactly what he originally wanted and therefore makes perfect sense.
