“I’ve been coaching longer than I’ve been married...” Rhemann began, walking behind his desk and digging through the “in” basket, all the mail he had yet to deal with.

“...And you’ve been married a long time,” Lisinski finished the quote. Rhemann awaited the ‘old man’ joke she usually tacked onto his proverbs, but Lisinski stood silent, twisting the back of her earring in thought. Rhemann knew Lisinski trusted his judgement, a long time ago she was the one he had been taking a chance on, but her discomfort was palpable.

“I’m not trying to overstep here, but have you been reading the news?”

Search unsuccessful, Rhemann moved to his “out” basket and shuffled through sealed envelopes until he found the misplaced receipt. He showed it to her.

“What is this?”

“A tracking slip for Moreau’s medical records.”

“This is from a month--two months ago?”

“Lost in the mail, they said."

Lisinski’s eyes narrowed and Rhemann knew he chose right in telling her first. She never shied away from calling bullshit.
