Damian only shows his art to those he trusts for years.

His art is so deeply personal that he can't bear for it to be perceived, much less gifted to others.

Dick gets his first painting during his time as Damians Batman.

Steph gets hers after the bounce house.

Alfred commissions him so he has new art for the house. His favourite is a family portrait he keeps in his bedroom.

Duke gets gifted sketches of Signal and Gotham in the sunrise

Cass gets given beautiful moments of ballet dancers.

Bruce is given portraits of his parents.

Damian paints Tim's photographs.

Jason gets artfully designed bookmarks.

Barbara has lovely landscapes and shots of the city she protects from behind her desk.

Other get given bits and piece Damians thinks they might enjoy.

But Jon Kent has an almost constant supply and access to Damians doodles.

He is Damians' creativity buddy and sounding board. Damian draws manga and comics while Jon write stories for them.

There's only one sketchbook he doesn't get to see, the one Damian keeps locked in his desk.

Jon has asked before, but Damian always shuts him down, saying it's private, and Jon respects that even if he is curious. If the magical girl ocs were fine, what is in that particular book?

Until one day Damian is kidnapped, and he has to go through his room for clues to who took him, and even if he feels weird about it, he opens the forbidden sketchbook.

He is expecting secrets, trauma, and the parts of himself that Damian hates.

What he finds is hundreds of sketches of Jon himself.

Each one is so full of detail and so lovingly drawn that feels like he is being burned.

Every freckle is correct, Damian drew close ups of his dimples, and his scars.

Seeing himself through Damians eyes is so intimate it feels like holding his very heart.

So Jon puts the book back where he found it without the other bats noticing.

When they find and rescue Damian, Jon knows he has to tell him but how?

Jon thinks of the sketches he wasn't supposed to see, and something in him melts even while he drowns in guilt.

So one night he confronts Damian when he best friend asks him about colour palettes.

"I saw your secret sketchbook, and I am so sorry!" Jon shouts and braces himself for Damians' anger. It doesn't come.

"What?" Damian sounds scared, and that is so much worse.

"When you were missing your Dad and brothers made me go through your room! Day I'm so sorry!"

"Did they see it too?" Damian shrinks in on himself, and Jon wants to hug him so badly.

"No! I put it back straight after I realised what it was, I swear!"

Damian huffs and looks away.

"So you know?"

Jon gulps, "know what?"

"That I'm in love you." Damian looks for Jons reaction and seeing his face starts to get up to leave. "I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable Jonathan. I shall depart."

Jon grabs his arm. "No! Day don't leave! I'm sorry! I just need a second. Please."

Damian stops but doesn't turn around. "I do not want your pity."

"It's not pity! Damian, I love you! I have for years and I'm just sorry I saw before you were ready to show me!" Jon is getting desperate now. He can't lose Damian. He doesn't think he will survive it.

"Really? You're not just saying that to spare me?"

Jon is horrified and spins Damian to be able to see his face. "Damian, what the hell! Why would I lie about this?!"

Damian has tears in his eyes when he finally meets Jon gaze. "I don't know, it just feels impossible for you to love someone like me."

"It's impossible not to love you! Believe me, I tried! I was terrified it would destroy our friendship, and I wanted to have some of you even if it wasn't in the way I wanted."

Damian sighs and slowly kisses him. When he pulls back, he laughs a little.

"We are both idiots."

Jon grins and wipes the tear that manages to escape. "Yeah, we are, but at least we figured it out eventually. I love you, Damian. Truly and completely."

"I love you too." Then Damian kisses him again.

Jon has the sketch Damian draws of Jon asleep beside him the next morning framed.

ch.1 close quarters - female yn x slimecicle

my first fic please be kind and i'll try my best to update since I have some free time rn <3

this may be a slowburn (sorry). right now no smut (but it's not out of the question ;). )

You ran your fingers through your hair and turned the page, but looked up as you heard something hit the ground by your blanket on the grass. You were at the park reading-a rarity for you- since you rarely had time to unplug from all the noise; so today was yours to simply wind down, and get outside. Because your schedule was usually so rigid, you decided that maybe making an effort to be more spontaneous would be good for you. 

“Finn! Get back here! NO! Don’t get that!” yelped a man running up to you, trieing to retrive his dog from getting the ball -which was what landed by you. The dog seemed to be a golden doodle puppy, and came up to you after seeing you by his ball, and greeted you by licking your face. By the time the man got to you, the puppy had already jumped up on you.

“I’m so sorry about this.” he said through gulps of air. The man was bent over, panting, from running all the way across the park, his light brown hair hung over his face, “Finegean! Stop that!” he exclaimed as the dog was now licking your face, “Here let me get him off you.” He moved to try and grab the dogs collar and pull him off of you. You laugh from under the dog and set your book to the side so the pages would’nt get creased. “Ha, don’t worry about it! He’s lucky he’s a cutie,” you wink playfully mostly at the dog who was still thouroughly enjoying your company, “How old is he?” By now the man was crouched down next to the dog and was petting him with you.

“He’s only 6 months old. I’m pet sitting for one of my friends, so he’s excited with all the new faces. It’s a nice day today, so I thought that this guy might enjoy getting out his zoomies.” He looked up at you and smiled after ruffling the top of the dogs head, “My name’s Charlie by the way. Nice to meet you. Again sorry for the intrusion.” He smiled apologetically. You shook your head smiling back warmly.

“Nice to meet you too. My name is Y/N. It’s no problem really, I was just trying to unplug, so this will be a highlight in my day! You live around here?” you tilted your head to the side. “Yeah, I live in the apartment complex two blocks from here, what about you?” “Oh, I also live in that apartment building! What floor do you live on?”

“I live on the 6th floor…” He said it slowly as if he was piecing together a puzzle. “I also live on the 6th floor! Do you hear that guy that’s like, randomly really loud like multiple times a week!? What is he even doing in there? I’m pretty sure it’s just him too! It’s so strange! I share a wall with him!” He quickly looked away with a nervous smile and rubbed the back of his neck,

“Sorry about that…..” he looked sorry to be a bother.

“Oh my gosh! That’s you!? I’m so sorry! Ummm…” blushing profusely you paused trying to revive the conversation after you accidentely insulted him, “So what are you doing all of those times? If you don’t mind me asking, that is.” You were trying not to offend him because he seemed like a nice guy. He brushed the wavy brown hair out his eyes and spoke guiltily. “Oh…I um…talk with my friends a lot and it gets… heated…sorry.”

“No, it’s alright! I just thought it was strange…So umm, what do you like doing around here? There’s not much to do in the literal most rural state in the country.” You laugh lightly trying to break the awkwardness. Seeming to relax more, he sat down from his crouch on the grass next to your blanket and seemed to lighten up.

“Oh, I really like hiking and being outdoors. There’s some good trails around here! Other than that I like gaming with my friends, but I promise I’m not a weirdo who doesn’t have a job.” You laugh because that was definitely a thought going through your head after finding out that he was the mysterious loud man.

“Alright, Alright, I believe you.” He laughed.

“What do you like doing around here?”

“Oh, I also like being outdoors and stuff. Swimming, hiking, biking. Other than that I do alot of either grandma activities and 15 year old boy hobbies.” You smile as if your embarrased,  “You know, reading and crocheting, but also guitar, and gaming admittedly.”

“What games do you like playing?” he smiled and seemed intrigued. “Oh, I play on the Switch, so you know Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, Fall Guys, Untitled Goose Game and also uh…Minecraft.”

“I’m among good company." he smiles warmly, "Those are all good games. Yeah I play on PC so I play a variety of games, Minecraft included." he grins softly sharing a glance in between petting Finn trying to calm him, "What do you do for work?”

“Oh well… I make videos on Youtube…,” you look away to hide your slight embarrassment.

“Really?! So do I! Usually I don’t tell people that because it doesn’t help the I’m not a deadbeat image I try to keep up, but yeah! That’s also why I’m so loud… I stream on Twitch.” “Oh my gosh that’s so cool! There aren’t a lot of content creators around here so it’s a breath of fresh air. I’m trying to get started on Twitch but honestly I keep procrastinating.”

“I agree! You should totally come over sometime!-” He was interupted by the dog barking at him and panting. “Gosh. I should probablly get this guy home.... but it was really nice talking to you! Hey, if you want, we can walk back together? It is getting pretty hot out here anyways.”

“Yeah for sure!” You get up and roll up you blanket and get your book, putting it in your tote bag. “Let’s go!” he says waving for you to follow him.

“Alrighty!” As you walk towards him and continue to walk with him back to your guys’ building, you feel a sense of peace, that you had finally found even a potential friend.

i've said it before and i will say it again, i genuinely believe that one of the best ways to practice drawing is by doodling on some cheap paper with a cheap pen. nothing to be precious about, you can't undo what you've drawn, if you drew it wrong the first time draw it fifteen times until you get it right. a lot of people are scared of their art looking bad but art looking bad is an unavoidable part of the process. you don't have to show anyone but yourself and you can try again as many times as you want!
