i was serious when i said that anon got me motivated to finally work on my izaya site again... i finally am making my merch page look pretty and cute...

it used to be just within an iframe before this but i was mulling over the layout because the iframe i use on the main page is too small to just have all my merch contained in it so i thought i should retire the obsession with iframes and just make a separate page... i made this site when i was 17 and just found out about iframes so i was trying to use them as much as possible...

the smosh babies challenge

the challenge where you need to watch every episode of smosh babies within 24 hours

**you may**

- watch with friends who are also taking the smosh babies challenge. this may only be done over the phone or a voice call so you dont accidentally divert your attention from smosh babies during the challenge. while there is no limit on how many friends you can take the challenge with, managing your group and ensuring that nobody cheats makes the challenge significantly more difficult and is not recommended. the ideal group is 2-4 people

- take up to 3 breaks of any desired length

- eat while watching

-play with cards during breaks

- be creative during breaks (drawing, writing, singing, etc.)

**you may not**

- call anyone NOT doing the smosh babies challenge with you. the only voices you will hear during the challenge are the voices of those participating, and the voice cast of smosh babies. texting during breaks is still allowed.

- go on post-based social media until every episode has been completed. no tumblr. no twitter. nothing like that. this extends to public discord servers too. the only use case for social media is instant messaging apps to text people directly and stay in contact with the person youre executing the challenge with. if someone sends you a video, youre not allowed to watch it. you also cannot conspire to get your social media fix by asking people to send you screenshots. being in cahoots and trying to outsmart the system is considered cheating.

- be "desynced" with your friend taking the challenge. you must both be watching the same episodes at the same time. preferably using a screen sharing system or watch together app

- consume any sort of media during breaks or during the 24 hours the challenge is in session

- have other tabs or music open. no texting friends while smosh babies is in progress. you are allowed to text people during breaks. the only exception to the music rule is that you are permitted to listen to music during a 1 of your 3 breaks. it is highly recommended that you use your music break when you go to sleep. if you need to leave to go to the store or do something during a break and music is playing, that is ok. however, you are not to have any influence or control over said music. no loopholes

- draw or entertain yourself otherwise while smosh babies is on in the background. **you must pay attention to each and every episode of smosh babies. do not look for any sort of loopholes**

- skip the credits. drawing during the credits IS allowed, but ONLY if youre drawing the smosh babies. they must recognizably be smosh babies. no complicated abstractions or jumps in artistic logic to avoid drawing smosh babies. once the credits are over, you must" stop drawing. i personally recommend you use this time to draw as fast as you possibly can

- watch the episodes out of order

- watch the episodes at a faster speed

every episode must be watched to completion within the 24 hour timeframe

the challenge is officially over once every episode has been watched. your reward is a sinking feeling

and if you cheated, i hope you feel genuinely awful. the smosh babies challenge is a commitment. if you could only win by cheating, i need you to know that it was all worth nothing. im disappointed in you

If you have ever used another art software, Aseprite will be familiar to you but all the keybinds will be messed up. You can go to edit > keyboard shortcuts, search what you're missing and rebind it to whatever you're used to.

Most important keybinds (to me):

Brush: B

Eraser: E

Undo: control + Z

Redo: control + Y

Quick colour picker: hold alt and click

New layer: shift + N

New frame: alt + N

Lasso select: Q

Quick outline: shift + O

These are a couple keybinds that are actually really useful for pros but a pain in the butt if you hit them while you're learning

First, FAQ: answering with the state of things as of time of posting (June 6, 2024)

You can't change the banner, description or icon of your community (yet!). If you really must, you can always send a support ticket to staff to get it fixed. The ability to edit things is among the planned future updates to Communities as a whole.

You can't invite sideblogs yet. Invites will only go through to main blogs. You can also invite people by sending them the link to your Community (they are not searchable / free to join -again, yet.)

They're in open beta, so of course bugs will happen. The most common ones seem to be having the log in screen show up when you try to check communities, the notification count not going away unless you close the app, getting 'stuck' on your sideblog and not being able to post from your main. So far the workaround I've found most effective (on the mobile app) is to forcefully shut down the app and then try again. Clearing the cache also helps.

The workaround for getting 'stuck' on your sideblog is posting something to your main blog outside of Communities, and after that going back to your community to post from your main again.

About reblogging to a Community: a quick & easy guide (already shared it in the Community Admin place, but I'm making it rebloggable by posting it here!)

Reblogging to your community, as of right now (June 6), only works using your desktop's browser and/or your phone's browser set to desktop mode. It does not work on the app (yet). It also does not work using the quick reblog option. You have to reblog "the old way", aka opening the post as if you're about to add commentary to it.

There, you have to click the top part where your blog url is, here:

Which in turn should open this drop-down menu:

Here you just click on the tab that says "Communities", which in turn will take you to all the communities you're part of and will let you choose which one you want to reblog a post to:

Once that's done, you can add commentary to the post and tags if you want (you don't have to if you don't), and then click on the 'reblog' button.

Now, if you don't have the option to reblog to your community while using your browser, that's a bug and you need to report it.

my laptop is open and blasting music at full volume as i fold my clothes, cursing myself for letting it pile up this much. as i empty the basket of clothes, i hear my phone ping.

i smile down at my phone and quickly text back, letting him know i’d definitely be watching.

matt and i have been dating for almost 6 months, but no one really knows. the only people that know are his brothers (obviously) and a few of our close friends. he likes to keep his personal life private and i don’t mind. of course, if he asked me to scream it from the rooftops i would do it without hesitation.

i quickly put my folded clothes away and put the basket back in the laundry room before rushing over to my laptop to log onto twitch.

i plop down on my bed, laying on my stomach and resting my chin in my hands.

“chattt!” chris’s scream blares through, causing me to wince a bit. “we’re back and we’re ready to have a fucking blast with you guys!” nick swats his hand towards his chest, hitting him lightly.

“stop fucking screaming, my god. not even a minute into this and we’re gonna get a noise complaint.” nick says, rolling his eyes.

my eyes fall to matt who is focused on the screen that sits right beside the camera, nibbling on his bottom lip. his attention is finally shifted as music starts to play and he readjusts his headphones.

“okay, what are we doing?” matt asks, looking over to his brothers who simply shrug in response.

“fortnite?” chris suggests and nick groans. “alright, what about fall guys?” he asks. they go back and forth for a minute, both of them getting increasingly annoyed.

my eyes stay fixed on matt who is reading chat, shouting out all the gifts, and pretty much just ignoring his brothers. i can’t help but laugh a bit when he looks up at the camera and rolls his eyes at chris and nick.

“fucking pick something! c’mon.” matt exclaims, throwing his hands up dramatically. chris and nick give each other a look before chris starts chuckling, mimicking matt’s previous dramatics.

“i don’t hear any suggestions coming from you, tough guy.” nick snaps back. “let’s just play dress to impress.”

after getting roblox pulled up, the boys switch seats leaving nick front and center to play first, chris right next to him, and matt sitting at the foot of his bed behind them. i shift around in my bed, leaning on my side and pulling my phone out of my pocket to mindlessly scroll through instagram.

about 15 minutes go by of the typical chaos that the boys create when i hear a familiar song start to play. i look back to the screen and see that it’s matt’s turn. i notice a small smile on his face as the song continues.

it’s a song i showed him the other day, even when i’m not with you by pierce the veil. we like some of the same music, but this side is usually something we don’t share an interest in. knowing that he liked it enough to add to his playlist makes my heart swell.

“matt, this outfit is making me nauseous.” nick grimaces at the screen and chris laughs, nodding his head to agree with nick.

“shut up. this is perfect.” matt mumbles. the time runs out and it goes to the judging. matt’s eyes scan chat and i can see a swarm of people freaking out over the song choice.

matt chuckles to himself and reads a chat out loud that was asking for the name of the song. “this is the song, chat.” he says as he drags the spotify tab into frame.

“yeah, matt’s been on that emo shit.” chris jokes. matt simply rolls his eyes and keeps reading the chat.

“as always, don’t listen to chris guys. a - um - a really good friend of mine showed me this song.” he fumbles on his words a bit and i can’t hold back the grin that creeps up. “yeah, i really like it so shout to them. love you-“ he abruptly stops and i feel my heart drop to my stomach. his eyes widen slightly, but enough for me to notice.

i know matt cares for me and i know he likes me, but we’ve never said that before. and now he’s just said it in front of thousands of people. obviously, they don’t understand the relevance of the moment, but i do. matt does. even his brothers.

they sit in silence for a couple seconds before matt quickly reaches forward and mutes his mic.

matt’s pov

“oh, my god.” i turn away from the monitors and look at chris who is now sporting a smug grin.

“what are you doing, idiot?” nick asks, pulling his hand up to cover his mouth, eyebrows furrowed together. chris falls back on to the bed, hiding his face in his hands as he laughs.

“what a romantic story!” chris exclaims between his laughter. “‘i told my girlfriend i love her for the first time over stream.’” he mocks.

nick stands up from his seat, shuffling out of the view of the camera as he doubles over in laughter.

“it’s not fucking funny, guys!” i argue, keeping my back turned to the camera. “she’s watching the stream, she definitely heard that!” chris takes a deep breath and finally sits up, shaking his head.

“maybe not. maybe she left the room or something.” he shrugs. i roll my eyes and let out a soft groan.

of course i love her. i really do, but this definitely isn’t the way i wanted to tell her that. i didn’t necessarily have a plan for telling her, but this… this way isn’t ideal.

“matt, you’re fine. we can just finish the stream then you can stress about you professing your love for your girlfriend to the internet.” nick says calmly, reaching over the desk and turning the mic back on. i let out a soft sigh and turn back to the screen, hesitantly looking over at the chat.

thankfully, no one caught on to what i had said and were only freaking out because we were muted. nick and i switch spots and i pull out my phone, contemplating if i should send some sort of explanation text.

what if i freaked her out? what if she thinks it's too early? i might've have just scared her away-

Interesting video my dad sent me, since we both have NVIDIA cards

The thing is though I had no idea about this because despite regularly updating my drivers I haven't experienced any problems at all lol

Apparently all of the NVIDIA drivers released after December 2024 are unstable in some way, resulting in game crashes, black screens, driver errors/crashes, etc.

And there's notable situations where they happen, like having multiple monitors, alt-tabbing out of a game, and waking the computer from sleep mode

These guys recommend temporary fixes of turning off DLSS/frame gen/G-Sync, switch around the ports you plug in your multiple monitors, or go back to a previous driver version

But like I said I had no idea about any of this. I have an NVIDIA card with recent drivers, I alt-tab out of games & wake my PC from sleep, etc. and have not seen any issues whatsoever. Although I am using Windows 10, which I can only guess interacts slightly differently with my video card than Windows 11 would. I've never used those NVIDIA specific settings like DLSS4 or G-Sync either. I just don't see the point tbh like if the game was capable of looking good it'd have Good settings in the game...? lol

19. what are some books or authors that influenced your style the most?

Oh, babe, I have no fucking clue. I have not... like done... a study??? of others' writing??? I'm not a good enough writer to say my style is inspired by anyone- *gets shot for self-loathing* I have no clue. I've not sat down with a physical book in a while, so like, shoot me again for being a dirty fanfic-only reader. I've of course read plenty of good writing that inspired me, you and See-Arcane come to mind, but I've never actively put effort into replicating someone else's writing style because that sounds like too much work. It would definitely make my writing better to study some published authors who of course have better writing than me... but I don't do this for a job, soooo... Someone who is better at reading could probably clock where my style comes from. I'm not paying that much attention to the development of my writing.

25. what's your revision or rewriting process like?

Oooo, like fixing my own shit? A loooooot of cut and paste. Too Much, Much Too Fast is a good example of this because I wrote the most recent chapter eons ago and it was bleh. So much needed to be fixed, but I'm also a little sentimental fool, so instead of deleting large swaths of text that need to be rewritten, I cut it out and put it somewhere else before restarting. I don't ALWAYS have to revise something this intensely, but it's one of the best examples. There's also all that rewriting that I had to do of chapters of Orice to be made into alt POV chapters for Three-Legged. THAT consisted of copying the original text in and then highlighting all the text that needs to be replaced (mostly narration but some dialogue gets ousted for summary). It's much easier than like having a million tabs open and trying to remember if Renfield smirks or scowls at a particular point iojpegri.

31. tell us about one of your characters who's an absolute joy to write?

Ohhhhh you know Renfield. Really nearly all the characters in Dracula (I'm on my Dracula kick again, as you can see)... but Renfield's old sexy bitterness is very fun. Even when he's not the POV, he's slumping over sitting on his bed and smugly staring down whoever's talking to him... or he's screaming - his moral scrupulosity showing its colours. It's fun to write his perspective in even when I'm writing from another perspective? Like for example: Seward dumb, so his interpretation vs. Renfield's actual intent is a biiiig gap.

47. what story are you most proud of?

DON'T ASK ME THAT IN FRONT OF THE CHILDREN!! I can't say Orice because it's not finished... but I can say another fic in the series: Façade. I'm very proud of Façade and I like to come back to it often. Writing from such an awful perspective was an exercise in grossing myself out, and I just think the quality of the writing there is so good, if I do say so myself.

Rainmeter is where I get nifty desktop widgets (skins). There are a ton of skins online and you can spend hours just getting caught up in customizing. There are clocks, disk information, music visualizers, weather widgets*, and more.

I get most of my skins from the links I posted, but they are by no means the only resources for Rainmeter skins. r/Rainmeter and Deviantart have some awesome inspiration.

This is what my desktop looks like right now:

Windows: Useful Things for Workflow

Flow Launcher - this is basically a search bar, app launcher, and even easy-access terminal all in one. The default hotkey is Alt+Space. I use this almost primarily to do quick calculations. There are a ton of plugins and I've barely scratched the surface with how I use it.

ShareX - This is my screenshot tool and I love it. Admittedly, I find it difficult to configure, but once I had it set up, I didn't really have to adjust it. You can create custom hotkeys to screenshot your entire screen, or to select your screen, or even use OCR. This has saved me a ton of time copying over text in images and making it searchable.

Bonus - Get Rid of Windows Web Search in the Start Menu: If you're comfortable with editing your registry, and you want to get rid of the pesky web results in Windows search, this fix is what I used to get rid of it.

Android: Nova Launcher

This is my main Android launcher that I've been using for almost as long as I've owned a smartphone, and it's super customizable. The best part is that it's free with no ads, and you can purchase premium at a one-time cost.

The main things I use it for are app drawer tabs, renaming apps, hiding apps, and changing the icons.

I've had premium for so long that I've forgotten what the features were, but looking at the website, the one feature I use is app folders.

Further things to enhance your customization experience to look into include:

Flashing a custom Android ROM (e.g. LineageOS)

Give up on Windows & install Linux instead (Ubuntu is a good one to start with)

Android app modification: ReVanced apps (includes Tumblr), Distraction Free Instagram

Install Rainmeter skins and programs I recommend at your own risk. Before altering Windows, such as editing the registry, make sure you have everything backed up.

The Windows web search fix works on my Windows 11 machine. I don't know if it works for Windows 10, but I do know I was able to disable it in Windows 10 at some point, so your mileage may vary.

Install non-Play Store apps at your own risk. (Although in my opinion, open source APKs are less sketchy than some apps on the Play Store...) Always check where you're downloading APKs form!

Summary:  After working as an engineer for Wilford & Gilliam Trust for several years you find evidence of seedy dealings and burned books. After turning in the evidence you find yourself in danger and seek help. You're taken into the protection of a mob family where you run into your high school best friend, Mace.

Part 2

Series Masterlist

Mace was enjoying his time at the bar. It wasn't often he and all the other guys got to go out together. Well, all except Curtis. Him and Teach were still in their Exciting New Relationship phase. He couldn't fault them, especially since he was able to prod Curtis on how he'd been right all those weeks ago.

He was enjoying watching Hal trying to teach Jake some pickup artist stuff when he got a text: Prep the guest suite. Mace put his phone away and paid his tab before letting the guys know what was happening.

The Guest Suite was the name given to one of the nicer apartments the family kept as safe houses. Mace was generally in charge of their upkeep, seeing as how he was handy with just about everything they needed. Furnaces, fuses, water heaters, even plumbing, he was really good at fixing and maintaining the apartments. It’s why he was officially in charge of the maintenance for the low-income housing that the Family funded. 

Several apartments were kept empty for specific reasons. The only one Mace didn’t touch was the Basement Studio, where Barnes and Fowler did their more intense interrogations. Curtis took responsibility for that one and Mace was happy to let him. Most of the others were Singles, kept open for victims of abuse or runaways in need of a safe space. There were a couple of Lofts for when Family members needed to lay low for a while. But the Guest Suite was something special, reserved solely for potential witnesses that the police were unable to keep safe. Its upkeep was focused on making it feel warm and welcoming and catered to witnesses, making them feel more inclined to testify, if only because they felt safe to do so. 

Part of prepping the Guest Suite was stocking the place with food. It was an off hour but Mace managed to gather up enough to last someone a couple of days, making a note to pick up more at a better time. He got to the apartment and set to work making the place ready. He stored the food, got the heater going and kept an ear out for any off noises while he did the rest of his work. He made sure the bed was made and even checked that the dishes and cooking supplies didn’t have a layer of dust.

While he was checking things he got another text, We’re here. Mace kept working and listened for the door to open. He made sure to keep himself where the guest would be able to see him immediately. It wouldn’t do to startle the guest. He was just double checking the security bars on the windows when he heard the door opening.

“Now this is where you’ll be staying,” he hears Huffman say. “Mace here has got the whole place secured and full of food. And if you need anything else, we can get it for you.”

“Mace?”

He turns around and sees you. It takes his brain a second to recognize you, “DC?”

You run up to Mace and hug him, “AC! God it’s been so long!”

“What kind of trouble are you in that brought you here, DC?”

“Umm…well..” you stutter.

“She’s got dirt on Wilford & Gilliam,” Huffman interrupts. “You two know each other?”

Mace looks at Huffman, “we went to high school together. We were really good friends, bonding over a shared interest in engineering.”

You giggle, “we were such nerds we even nicknamed each other after the AC and DC electrical currents. I was DC, Direct Current, because I had my life all planned out and was a straight shooter.”

Mace smiles shyly, rubbing his hand on the back of his head, “and I was AC, Alternating Current, because my plans were all over the place and my interests kept varying from month to month.” He turns to you, “you’re in trouble with Willford & Gilliam?”

“I…I was working for them and found some…irregularities in the finances. And the blueprints. And a few other things.” You start shaking at the memories of the past week and Mace pulls you in for a hug to steady you.

“They sent goons to kill her,” Huffman continued. “They’ve managed to find her at three different safe houses under my department's jurisdiction. I’m pretty sure I’ve got a mole or something. Barnes approved getting her set up here.”

Mace nods, “who do you have set for guard duty?”

Huffman gives Mace a once-over, “I’m thinking it should be you.” 

“Woah,” Mace argues, “I’m not guard duty material. I’m just maintenance and information!”

“Mace,” you whimper, “please? I’d really like to be protected by a friend, not a stranger.”

He looks into your eyes and sees how tired and stressed out you are. He knows you’d be safer with someone else but he can tell you need something familiar and safe or you’re going to be a nervous wreck.

“Okay,” he concedes. He turns to Huffman, “I’m still gonna want some back up or something.” Huffman nods in agreement. “And someone’s going to have to tell Curtis I’ve been commandeered for a little while.”

“I’ll make sure he agrees to the plan.”

“So you’re gonna talk to Teach?”

“Well, I do value my life, Mace.” Huffman heads out, leaving you and Mace alone together.
