A mirror on fire

what do you do when someone writes like a mirror of fire? casting galaxies between breaths, and folds strange creatures in the hollows of your ribs long after silence settles?

You dare not name it— you whisper “curiosity,” murmur “friendly,” laugh nervously as you circle back to the same broken sentence, twelve times or more, because maybe, just maybe, a little flicker of hope.

You try to speak their language — tuning the static of thunder, searching for a melody buried beneath the storm. Sometimes a signal breaks through, sometimes only white noise. But still, you listen.

Do they know? Do they feel it? Not the flutter, not the pulse, but the echo. The hollow hush when they vanish.

lighting up the dark with @heliosxmi !!

usually, yeji finds peace in the dark. under the night sky, she is just as tiny as the stars from such a distance; so insignificant, so free to do what she wants and needs to without worrying about the consequences. she’ll face the repercussions as and when they come— if they come. everything is quiet at night, in the dark, but right now, all she can hear is pained screams and the ringing in her ears. suffering echoes off what’s left of the walls and bounces around in her head, her neck clicking as she looks in every direction to see what she can do to help. her ankle is swollen but she’s so full of adrenaline that she barely realises until she loses her footing on the rubble, then forgets again until the next time. it hardly matters when there’s people still inside with worse injuries, worse circumstances. if she’s able to, she should help — just like anyone else here with a conscience. 

she finds him inside, and at first, assumes he’s unable to walk. there’s little other reason she can think of in the heat of the moment to stay inside a crumbling building, so when she reaches out to help him up, it’s with a hesitant hand and a soft call of, “excuse me, are you okay?” her heart’s pounding, partly because she doesn’t know how bad his situation is and partly, in turn, because she doesn’t know if she’ll even be able to help, but she’ll try. she’ll always try. “you need to get out; it’s super dangerous staying in here, especially alone! let me help you!”

——— since his newest neighbor had moved in to the apartment on the same floor as his own, theodore was hardly at home anymore, but he couldn’t be blamed because Finley was a looker on the eyes, and he was also a dear friend to teddy. more often than not, theodore would spend the night across the hall from his own apartment to be with his neighbor. the pair were more like best friends, instead of neighbors because they would do anything and everything together. that saturday night, theodore had gathered his essentials to spend the night once again across the hall. with his pillow tucked under his arm as he locked his own apartment door, he walked to tap on Finley’s door with a soft smile. he mumbled, “fin, let me in. you knew i was coming.” he groaned about having to wait on the other. he wasn’t sure why they hadn’t exchanged keys already.
