10am and back on my bullshit in light of Recent News.

So I'm gonna bitch about Sniper's camper a little (such as things it realistically would and would not have), and explain some things!

...While using Tilly of course. Camper anatomy course!

For comparison, this is Sniper's camper.

Now, for my issues and corrections with this...

The biggest thing that I notice in canon camper is the extreme lack of windows. Sniper's camper, given the timeline, would be a 60s-era model. Most 60s-era campers did not have air conditioning as their roofing wasn't strong enough to support the weight of an aircon. As you can see by looking at the roof of the camper, his does not have aircon. To make up for the lack of this, you need AIRFLOW or the camper becomes a dangerously high-heat oven. This means his camper would have multiple windows with flywire, not vents, to allow for airflow, and also a greater number of windows than is on the canon model. I will note that the venting front nook window is pretty cool though, and I've never seen one.

Sniper's camper would probably not have a shower, as there's not enough room for one. See how little it hangs off the tailgate? It has a toilet though. ALL campers that hang off the tailgate like that have a toilet. Also, despite Sniper's camper defo having a bathroom, it lacks a bathroom vent for some reason.

Sniper's camper lacks jacks?? I assume this is an oversight due to modelling reasons for SFM, and not that he took the jacks off. The jacks are necessary for maintenance purposes.

The tops of campers are always flat and I don't know why his Does That. I'm deciding it's stylistic reasons cuz otherwise he wouldn't be able to get in bed.

On that note—Sniper has a queen-size bed. I know it doesn't look like one, but trust me, that's a queen-size bed. No I don't care about the internal model that they never planned for anyone to see. It might be a bit cramped in the length department because he's a tall cunt, and it might be a bit cramped in the height department (there's not even a metre of headspace off the bed), but it's not cramped in the "If I roll in any one direction I will fall out" department, I assure you.

I'm not gonna fuss about the water fill hole or the heater or nothing, or the lack of LPG signage. I assume the lack of them is the same reason as the lack of jacks.

Ok, now for some general notes for people who don't know much about campers...

Campers from this era are entirely powered off the vehicle they're attached to. There's something called a pigtail, basically a long bundle of wire, that connects the truck to the camper and provides power, lights, etc. Some modern campers have space, usually under the sink, for a car battery to attach so you can power the camper off a separate battery without the use of a vehicle, but all campers from this era are powered by car battery through the pigtail only. THIS MEANS THAT IF YOU RUN YOUR BATTERY TOO OFTEN YOU WILL BE STRANDED AS YOUR CAR WILL NOT START. Ever leave your headlights on? A lot of people would get around this by using deep-cycle batteries (which are rechargeable), and they usually kept a spare. Or two. Some vehicles, like the Ford Camper Special line, allowed room for two car batteries in the engine bay to specifically get around this. Ideally one battery would be your starter, and the other would be a deep-cycle that everything ran off of. This would prevent you from draining your car's battery, and as deep cycle batteries recharge while you're driving, this works great. Other people (like me) use deep-cycles ONLY, and recharge the batteries by cycling them out as needed.

To use your stove you have to go outside, open the LPG panel, turn the valve on your propane tanks until it's loose, then go back inside, wait a few minutes, turn on the propane ON THE STOVE, and then light your pilot light (if you have a pilot light, most campers from this era do not) or light your burners individually. When you're done cooking or wharever, you have to go back outside and turn off your propane. If you do not do this your propane will leak while you drive.

You have to turn on the water by turning on the water pump, this requires electricity. Most campers have an overhead panel somewhere near the kitchen to do this. Others have it under the sink.

Most campers can be powered without battery as long as you have an electrical source!! See the "camper city power" panel—this allows you to plug in an electrical cord directly into the camper to power it off that instead of off your truck. Downside—this requires an electrical outlet. It's really only used when a camper is home and someone is living out of it, or when someone is camped at a powered campground (like an RV park), which are extremely rare because most RV parks do not allow jack-on campers. I've only ever used this plug at home. 😅

Campers run on fuses. Given the era, Sniper's camper would probably run on old SFE glass fuses, likely 20As (mine runs on SFE-20As across the board).

Breakthrough in Fly Brain Research Paves Way for Understanding Human Cognition

Scientists have achieved a monumental breakthrough by mapping the fly brain, revealing the position, shape, and connections of all its 130,000 cells and 50 million intricate connections. This research represents the most detailed analysis of an adult animal's brain to date and is being hailed as a "huge leap" in understanding human cognition.

The fly's brain, though tiny, supports a range of complex behaviors, including walking, hovering, and even producing mating songs. Dr. Gregory Jefferis, a leader in the research from the Medical Research Council's Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, emphasizes that this mapping could illuminate the mechanisms behind thought processes in humans. He noted the lack of understanding about how brain cell networks facilitate our interactions with the world.

Despite humans having a million times more neurons than the fruit fly, the new wiring diagram, or connectome, will aid scientists in deciphering cognitive functions. Published in the journal Nature, the imagery showcases a stunningly complex structure that reveals how a small organ can perform powerful computational tasks.

Dr. Mala Murthy, co-leader of the project from Princeton University, stated that this connectome will be transformative for neuroscientists, allowing for a better understanding of healthy brain function and the potential to compare it with malfunctioning brains.

Dr. Lucia Prieto Godino from the Francis Crick Institute supports this view, highlighting that while simpler organisms like worms and maggots have had their connectomes mapped, the fly’s intricate wiring is a significant achievement. This success paves the way for mapping larger brains, potentially leading to a human connectome in the future.

The research team has successfully identified separate circuits for various functions, illustrating how movement-related circuits are positioned at the base of the brain, while those responsible for vision are located on the sides. The study not only identifies these circuits but also explains their connections, enhancing our understanding of neural processing.

Interestingly, researchers are already applying these circuit diagrams to understand why flies are so hard to catch. The wiring related to vision quickly processes incoming threats, sending signals to the fly's legs to jump away faster than conscious thought.

To create the wiring diagram, researchers used a technique involving slicing the fly brain into 7,000 incredibly thin pieces, photographing each slice, and digitally reconstructing the whole. They employed artificial intelligence to analyze neuron shapes and connections, correcting over three million errors manually.

Dr. Philipp Schlegel from the Medical Research Council highlights that this data serves as a comprehensive map of brain connectivity, akin to a detailed Google Maps for the neural networks. This combined information will facilitate countless discoveries in neuroscience in the coming years.

While a human connectome remains elusive due to the complexity of the human brain, researchers believe that advancements in technology may allow for such mapping in about three decades. The fly brain research marks a significant step toward unlocking the mysteries of human cognition and understanding our own minds better.

One night.

Through and out the window, past the hydrangea leaves that splayed like hands or prying faces against the flywire.

The thing had him by the foot, though he was disembodied. Weightless.  Massless.  

He was pulled inexorably out the window into the night. 

He left the warm light of his mostly safe ‘cept-from-the monster-under-his-bed bedroom.   Left the soft glow of his bedside lamp, his books, his comics, his toys and was dragged beneath the cold white light of the moon.

Over the lawn like he was nothing.  Across the garden.  Through the roses, the silver birch and the liquid amber trees.  Down the orange gravel track with the patchy line of grass running down the centre. 

The sky covered all like a blanket.  The stars stung his not-eyes.  The line of juvenile blue gums on both sides of the track whipped powder-coated leaves at him, branches tossing and shaking.

Down the track, floating just above the ground.  Through the front gate that was never closed.  Past the clumps of agapanthus.  The letterbox .

He tried to look back.  Couldn’t.  Could only see forward.  He was snapped suddenly like a rubber band, jerked hard to his right, an iron grip on his whole self.  He didn’t know what was happening.  He didn’t know why it was happening.

Along the track to the front of the cowshed.

The sloping corrugated tin roof and wooden support struts were lit by the moonlight starkly.  A structure more cavern, more cave than a place for Mum and Dad to milk their cows.  The pellet silo was a squat crouching rocket, metal ladder on the side leading up and up.   He tried to yell, make a noise, but nothing came.  Just hopeless fear and the irresistible pull towards something dreadful. 

Past the silo and over to the well.

He’d never been so close before, had always been warned to keep his distance.  Yelled at if he got too near.  It was dangerous. There was no fence to stop anything or anyone falling in.

The well was left over from Poppa’s milking days.  A corrugated iron water tank sunk in the ground with concrete rendered chickenwire inside.  But it had no bottom, the boy was sure of that. It was deep as the sea.

Dad used it to dump empty oil cans from the engine room (he’s stab them a few times with a nail first so they’d sink) or hessian feed-bags. In the day the surface was green slime, tonight slick black tar. 

In the daytime there were frogs.  They sat on bits of floating rubbish swelling their throats in and out and talking to each other in froggy croaks.  If he threw a rock in they’d launch into the water and, after the plop, colourful swirly petrol patterns would appear.  Then the green slime would slowly reclaim the settling surface and the frogs would jump back onto the rubbish.  It was fun. 

Tonight the well was silent and grim. There was only death and cold and a bleak reflected moon.  If he were pulled under the water he’d be gone forever and that would be that.  He would see nothing then be nothing, not even a reflection.

Past the well.  Floating. 

Black trees and white gravel.  Stinging stars.  Everything like an old film, like the ones Grandma and Poppa watched sometimes.  All colour stripped, raw lines and shapes and sharp edges and grey.

He could hear the swamp.  Eerie, alien noises even on regular nights in his room, alone but safe ‘cept-from-the monster-under-his-bed.

Insects screeching from the bog.

warp, wallow, wallop, gonk.

Frogs. 

eeeeeeeeeaaaaaargh!  eeeeeeeeeaaaaaargh!

He didn’t want to know.

The swamp was a thing alive.  It farted smelly gas and burbled mud.  It was blighted water.  It was snakes, centipedes, spiders, eels, lizards, leeches, worms.  It was nightbird calls like laughter or screams or screams of laughter.   It was rushes and needle tussocks sticking up spears, quicksand that would suck him down, down to horrors below. 

The moon didn’t care.  The thing carrying him didn’t care.  It kept pulling.

The swamp moved past on his left but didn’t get any closer thank God.  He’d be a good boy and believe in Jesus and everything.  He promised, promised, promised.

Faint droning.  Buzzing like a saw.

Humming like bees in the wattle.  Or a nuclear bomber on a mission to kill everyone.  Or a big truck coming at him on the highway.  Or something else, something worse.

Louder.  The humming, droning, roaring was enormous.  Old Leo’s house was getting closer and closer.

Old Leo was dead and his place had gone to shit as Dad said.  Old Leo had been dead for a while now.

He was at the row of cypress’ they called the hedge at the front of Old Leo’s place.  It looked like a massive black furry spider in the dark.  Something from a bad dream.  Dry grey branches like bones inside.  A dense barrier between Old Leo’s property and the road.

He was snapped round roughly again by the invisible rubber band, pulled by his not-arms, pushed in his not-back.

Off the road and over the glittering moonlit gutter sludge. 

The sparkles stung and the noise was all-consuming.  He went through the hedge as easily as through his window.  Carried over the weedy lawn, so different to Poppa’s well-kept patch. Sticks like bones all over. Empty bottles. Actual bones.

Old Leo’s house squatted at the end of a ruined concrete path, the veranda slumped and detaching.  The windows empty square eyes on each side of the hungry mouth front door.  Worn brass knob stuck in its white plank teeth like a filling. 

Crushed, bent, helplessly thrust forward.

He couldn’t turn away, couldn’t not see, couldn’t not feel the terror.

The thing that was going to eat him was in there. The thing that was going to swallow his soul before Jesus could get to it.  The thing even worse than the monster under his bed.

Sometimes it lurked in the swamp, sometimes the well, sometimes the cowshed, but tonight it was at home.

I believe that a great design is a measure of our progress - therefore I feel that it is my responsibility to embrace sustainability as important direction of inspiration. I am a believer of Nike legacy and I am convinced that they have the ability to make an impact on world of sustainability. Therefore I want to dedicate this ambitious concept to Nike.

The current technology and 3D-software possibilities are truly changing the way how we interact, design and manufacture products. My purpose for this project has one simple goal - to explore the possibilities of 3D-softwares that leads my design process and results into much smaller footprint on the planet. Because of my background experience in fashion and the industries global waste problem, I started to question every step behind the manufacturing processes. How can it be more efficient and environmental friendly? The solution is simple : The starting point is the recycling of plastic. After, all the plastics are turned into textiles and assets for 3D-printers. In a combination with the 3D-softwares, these assets are used for further product development and design prototyping.
