Interior Design Ideas: Classic Coastal Home Design

Hello, everyone! How are you doing today? We have been busy with our kids… my eldest son is graduating and we couldn’t be any prouder! This is a happy month!

Talking about that, I am honestly very happy to be featuring this classic coastal home designed by AGK Design Studio (recently featured here, here & here) on the blog today. I first saw this home a few years ago and it has stayed in my mind since then. I usually only feature homes that are recently finished but I had to open an exception for this home because of its classic details and many inspiring interior design ideas.

STATES WITH HIGN SWINE FLU RATE RECORD MOST COVID-19 CASES

Five States —

Maharashtra,

Gujarat,

Rajasthan,

Delhi,

Tamil Nadu

account for about 70% of India’s confirmed COVID-19 cases, that on Monday stood at 46, 416.

However, data from the Health Ministry’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), show that these are also States that consistently accounted for the bulk of swine flu cases, or seasonal influenza (H1N1) since 2015.

Last year, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Delhi and Maharashtra accounted for 15,580 cases of confirmed H1N1 — or 54 % of the confirmed infections. In 2018 again, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Gujarat, made up 65% of H1N1 cases.

In 2015, which saw 42,592 cases, the largest spike in cases since the swine flu pandemic of 2009-10, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Delhi polled 63% of the cases .

Excluding 2016, Maharashtra and Gujarat have either led or been among the top three in India’s swine flu count.

KARNATAKA FRAMES STRINGEST RULES TO DISCIPLINE GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES

The State government has come out with draft rules for the Karnataka Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) (Amendment) Rules 2020, aimed at disciplining government employees by imposing stringent penalties, including removal from service and compulsory retirement.

The draft rules notified on May 2 by the Deputy Secretary, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (Service rules-II), has come out with over two dozen stringent penalties for government staff if they indulge in misconduct or misbehaviour, sexual harassment, and unauthorised absence.

Objections Invited:

The government invited objections for proposed changes in the draft rules and rules would be taken up for consideration after 15 days from the date of their publication in the official gazette.

Withholding Increments:

Under the draft rules, the government can withhold three annual increments in case of unauthorised absence for a period exceeding one month and less than four months, and employees would be sacked form service for unauthorised absence for a period exceeding four months.

Employees would be removed if he or she found giving or taking or abetting giving or taking of dowry.

Misappropriation of Funds:

Five annual increments would be withheld in case of temporary misappropriation of government money less than ₹10,000, and there would be reduction of pay to a lower stage in the time-scale of pay of the post in the case of temporary misappropriation of government funds exceeding ₹10,000, according to the draft rules.

Compulsory Retirement:

The employee would be sent on compulsory retirement in the case of misappropriation/misuse of government money. In the case of procedural lapses, draft rules said it would lead to censure on the first occasion and reduction to a lower stage in the time-scale of pay on second and subsequent occasions.

In the case of unreasonable/unjustified delay beyond the time limits prescribed in manuals of office procedure etc., the employee would be ‘censured’ on the first occasion and withholding of at least one annual increment on the second and subsequent occasions.

Employees would be reduced to a lower post if found involved in sexual harassment cases. Two annual increments would be withheld in the case of refusal to obey written instructions of superior officers.

In the case of using official position or influence to get employment for members of the family in any company/institution, then employee’s pay would be reduced to a lower stage in the time-scale of pay.

The employee would be sent on compulsory retirement from service in the case of taking part in politics or elections in violation of the Karnataka Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1966, and in case of giving contract to a family member engaged in trade or business.

PLEA CHALLENGING APPOINTMENT OF ADDITIONL JUDGE REJECTED

The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a petition filed by a district judge challenging the appointment of a ‘junior’ judicial officer as an additional judge of the Karnataka High Court on the ground that it breaches the seniority rule.

The court dismissed the plea just half an hour before the swearing-in of Padmaraj N Desai.

A Bench of Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Aniruddha Bose said it generally does not interfere with the President’s order on appointment of judges at the 11th hour.

In his plea, Shivamogga Principal District Judge RKGMM Mahaswamiji said:

It is a case of superseding/passing over of a senior District judge (who was appointed on February 25, 2008, under reserve category ie., Scheduled Caste) by junior district judge and recommendation of Respondent No. 11 (P N Desai) by the collegium of Karnataka High Court is unlawful, arbitrary and in clear violation of statutory rules / administrative instructions contained in the official memorandum dated October 9, 1985, and involved bias of malafide and it clearly violated the functional rights guaranteed to the petitioner under Articles 14 and 16 of the Indian Constitution.”

INDIA FLAYS NOD FOR GLIGIT BALTISTAN POLLS

The External Affairs Ministry issued a “strong protest” over an order by the Pakistan Supreme Court allowing the Imran Khan government to hold elections in the region of Gilgit-Baltistan of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

India said it had issued a demarche to protest what it called Pakistan’s attempt to make “material changes” to the disputed area, by bringing federal authority to Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), which has functioned as a “provincial autonomous region” since 2009.

Centre Issues Demarche:

On April 30, a seven-judge Bench of the Supreme Court in Islamabad, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed, had allowed the government to organise general elections in G-B, and to set up a caretaker government there before that.

As a result of the coronavirus lockdown, the demarche was issued via email to the Minister (Political) in Pakistan’s High Commission in Delhi.

The Government of Pakistan or its judiciary has no locus standi on territories illegally and forcibly occupied by it.

India completely rejects such actions and continued attempts to bring material changes in Pakistan-occupied areas of the Indian territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Instead, Pakistan should immediately vacate all areas under its illegal occupation.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) responded to the demarche by referring to the government’s decision in August last year to amend Article 370 as “illegal and in clear violation of UNSC resolutions”.

India’s reaction is consistent with its previous objections against elections in G-B and in other parts of PoK, which it refers to as “Azad Jammu Kashmir”.

CIVIL SERVICES PRELIMINARY EXAM PUT OFF

The preliminary examination of the Civil Services has been deferred from May 30, the Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Ministry said in a press statement on Monday.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) held a special meeting on Monday to review the situation after extension of lockdown till May 17.

Taking notice of the extension of restrictions, the Commission decided that it will not be possible to resume examinations and interviews for the present. The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2020, scheduled to be held on May 31, 2020 therefore stands deferred.

The statement said that when new dates were decided, “it will be ensured that candidates are given a notice of at least 30 days”.

“Since this examination also serves as the screening test for the Indian Forest Service examination, the schedule for the Indian Forest Service examination is also deferred.

The situation will be reviewed again on May 20, 2020 and fresh dates for these examinations shall be notified on the UPSC website in due course.

The Commission has already deferred the following: personality test for remaining candidates for the Civil Services Examination, 2019, and notifications for the Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination, Combined Medical Services Examination,the Central Armed Police Forces Examination, and the NDA & Naval Academy Examination.

DRDO DEVELOPS A DISINFECTION TOWER

DRDO:

The Defence Research and Development Organisation(DRDO) is an agency of the Government of India, charged with the military’s research and development, headquartered in Delhi, India.

It was formed in 1958 by the merger of the Technical Development Establishment and the Directorate of Technical Development and Production of the Indian Ordnance Factories with the Defence Science Organisation.

It is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

With a network of 52 laboratories, which are engaged in developing defence technologies covering various fields, like aeronautics, armaments, electronics, land combat engineering, life sciences, materials, missiles, and naval systems, DRDO is India’s largest and most diverse research organisation.

The organisation includes around 5,000 scientists belonging to the Defence Research & Development Service (DRDS) and about 25,000 other scientific, technical and supporting personnel.

Why in News?

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed an ultraviolet (UV) disinfection tower for rapid and chemical-free disinfection of high infection-prone areas.

The equipment named UV Blaster is “useful for high-tech surfaces like electronic equipment, computers and other gadgets in laboratories and offices that are not suitable for disinfection with chemical methods.

The product is also effective for areas with a large flow of people such as airports, shopping malls, metros, hotels, factories and offices.

It was designed and developed by Laser Science & Technology Centre (LASTEC) based in Delhi with the help of New Age Instruments and Materials Private Limited, Gurugram.

For a room of about 12 ft x12 ft dimension, the disinfection time is about 10 minutes.

A demarche has come to refer either to a line of action; move; countermove; maneuver, especially in diplomatic relations, or formal diplomatic representation of the official position, views, or wishes on a given subject from one government to another government or intergovernmental organization.

These are slightly wider and measure at 66”W x 80” L. Olympic queen is perfect for taller individuals, but you don’t want to upgrade all the way to King, but you could use some more width.

King Bed Dimensions

A standard King size mattress is 76” in width and 80” in length. It’s recommended that you do not opt for this option unless your room is at least 12×12. This is a perfect option for couples who sleep with their kids or pets and want more sleeping room for themselves.
