Thank you for your ask. Unfortunately, I don't really care for the crows. I never grew any affinity towards any of them, so don't really care about the characters or the ships.

Grishaverse head cannon. We know that as a kid Alina suppressed her powers when the Grisha testers came but from the way the testing was described it seems though the response isn't something you can control. We also know that Sun summoning and shadow summoning are slightly different than other Etherealki because even the most powerful of them, (Zoya) can't dig and replicate the powers like they can with other Grisha abilities. This leads me to believe two things. One Shadow summoners and sun summoners should not be considered Etherealki because there abilities don't exactly fit within that category and two both sun and shadow summoners are not as uncommon as they might seem but light/darkness based powers are just harder to access and control. I wonder if its possible that there were other sun/shadow summoners who never accessed their abilities or were never powerful enough for them to show.

i am so pro sincerity like yes feel for these characters and genuinely love and hate them. make jokes, have fun but don't villainize genuine emotions and discussions no matter how silly the book was but like. that's not what some people are doing. they have legit forgotten that these are Characters and not real people.

Van Eck and Colm Fahey both being fathers who's trying to do what they think is the best.

The only difference is that Van Eck is doing what he believes is best for his legacy and Colm Fahey is doing what he believes is the best for his son.

And its a big difference, actually.

Really, really need people to understand how important it is that Matthias kept his faith while unlearning the toxic beliefs that people had instilled in him. That’s really important to his character actually.

The light faded. She had almost felt at ease after a minute. At least now she knew where the mysterious burns on her clothes and furniture would come from. The Darkling's expression, however, oddly resembled Vitaly's when he'd come to plough her bit of land. Perhaps that was the default expression people got when they'd realize they were stuck with an old person. She couldn't blame him, especially in his position.

"What's your name?" he asked at last.

"Nadezhda Pavlovna Smirnova".

She realized the irony her name would carry if she indeed was the only sun summoner in this saints-forsaken land. Was it too late to ask to just be called Nadya? The General of the Second army didn't look very hopeful, or at peace. She couldn't say she felt either of those things either.

"Moy sovereignyi", Ivan stated tensely. It took her a moment to realize she was being instructed to repeat it and address the Darkling so. She muttered it under her breath and bowed her head. It would hurt too much to bow with her back, after being thrown aside on the skiff. The idiot healer had only fussed over her hand, apparently. She wished she had been conscious during the time.

Alternate Shadow and Bone idea: The sun summoner turns out to be an old lady from a quiet village, who sensing she didn't have long left to live, hired a skiff and decided to brave the journey through the Fold in hopes of seeing her estranged extended family on the other side. When the volcra attacked, her fear set her power free, which until then she was ignorant of because it only came out as burning things when she got frustrated with cooking. Because of lack of education in commoners, she too considered Grisha abnormal witches until she was taken to the palace by the extremely disappointed Darkling. She sees the Grisha children, orphaned, hunted and abused for existing anywhere else, the Darkling running around to keep the country from collapsing while the King sits on his ass and decides to do something worthy since she has practically waned away her whole life anyway.

Her training progresses slowly because of her age and not because "wahh, I can't live without Mal for a month". Also because she and Baghra have the biggest old lady beef and bicker all the time. She's a better mother figure to Aleksander than Baghra. Kills the stag with zero hesitation because she had to butcher animals and store the meat for long winters. Has beef with the Apparat as well and tells the brainwashed children that he gathered in a cult to wise up and go get a life. Doesn't blame Genya for doing what she had to to survive and doesn't guilt trip her to take her side. She understands because her parents married her off when she was young, fortunately her bastard of a husband died soon after. Becomes friends with Ivan because paranoid Darkling assigned him to keep her heartbeat and blood pressure in check, so the old sun summoner won't randomly die. Is not impressed with Nikolai when he comes back to Ravka at all. In her opinion, everybody has done more for Ravka than him and he doesn't get to swoop in, decide he wants to be King and take all the credit.

Ending: Either gives her powers up because she's old and tired of life or leaves after things settle down, continues living for centuries as a healthy old woman because of her powers and becomes a local legend like Baba Yaga. She and Aleksander keep in touch, he comes over for tea, пирог (pie) and advice.

Almost got 5000 words of the angsty as shit helnik story I’ve been writing on and off but I’m also in a fun stage of ‘do I hate it or am I just tired’ and also ‘is this ooc or have I just put the character in a situation they didn’t experience in canon and therefore need to figure out how they would respond to these completely different circumstances whilst undergoing the emotional turmoil of the other circumstances’ oops
