In other news !! This was my first time playing Rain Burst and Flore Unfurl and.... I'm afraid they've altered my brain chemistry in a way no other game has ever done and I'll never be the same person I was before

It was SO GOOD ?? I WAS SO HOOKED ?!?!? Couldn't stop playing because the story was so captivating, and of course the characters being so so well-written and interesting was an important factor... I loved both events so freaking much I don't even know how to express it with words 😭😭😭

It wasn't supposed to end up like this....with you feeling butterflies with even the slightest touch of Shalom. No, it wasn't. It was supposed to be an agreement with no strings attached; or atleast that's what you both agreed upon. Alas, Shalom was able to keep up her side of the agreement. It's not like she could even break it if she tried... the poor latter couldn't feel even the slightest hint of raw emotions. It was all stripped away from her- she was dehumanised. But you didn't care did you? She is beautiful, elegant, refined and have such a charm to her that made you want to give her the world and more but you couldn't tell her that. You couldn't tell her anything like that. After all, you're just friends with benefits.

Shalom. Shalom. Shalom

That's all you could think of. Night after night, you toss and turn, fantasising about her maroon hair cascading down her shoulders, her lewd expression as you fuck her with no form of love. Oh how you wish it was just more than a simple fuck. How you wish it could be you making love to your girlfriend-or if possible, wife. Those nights that was spent in your room, the unspoken words lingering in the air, it left a wound deep in your heart, knowing Shalom would never accept your feelings or even if she did, she wouldn't be able to return them. She didn't know love. She didn't know what love is or how it feels. She didn't know. But you wanted to show her, to teach her all the wonders of being in love but alas that day would never come. One can only dream.

"A penny for your thoughts, y/n?" Her velvety voice resounded in your ears. Your gaze landed on her, her naked body wrapped with the sheets.

"I was thinking."

"I'd like to know what you were thinking. It seemed to have drawn your attention away from me for a moment," she let out a soft chuckle, a few strands of hair falling over her face. A look of fondness washed over your features, to see her laugh was truly a blessing.

"It's nothing to worry about, Shalom." You smiled, reached out to brush the few strands of hair away from her face.

"Ah? Don't go all soft of on me now. Remember our agreement."

You frowned. Of course she'd remind you of it. She always have, only because she knew you'd fall. It wasn't like she didn't know how you feel, it was pretty obvious but she knew to herself she wouldn't keep you happy.

"I know our arrangement. Don't need to remind me every time..."

She didn't reply, she only smiled. A smile which you'd kill for. Silence fell among both until you broke it by saying, "I don't think I can do this anymore.... it's hard.."

A frown etched unto her face. With a tilt of her head and a slight pouty expression, she has fireworks setting off in your stomach. "Can't do what? Our little agreement? I knew this day would come." She sighed.

This time it was your turn to frown. "You did?"

"It was pretty obvious y/n. But... you and I both know this is where it ends right? We can't keep it up if you have feelings for me. I wouldn't return it."

Atleast she was considerate. But it didn't matter. You didn't want to stop this. "W-wait we don't have to stop I-"

"We have too. Your fragile little heart will only be broken as time goes by. Besides, I'm getting a little tired of this as well. It was nice while it lasted."

An ache in your heart made you let out a somewhat broken whimper. "Don't leave... please.."

Her eyes remained glued to your face, searching for any sign of unseriousness but there wasn't any. Only signs of heartbreak, sadness. "Oh y/n.."

Your name rolled off her tongue like the sweet taste of honey. Your head hung low in sadness, knowing that her answer will always remain the same. "You know I'm incapable of loving you back. There's no use for you to keep being to attached to me." She lets out a resigned sigh before cupping your face. "I'll do you one good. I'll walk out of your life so that you won't have to face this anymore. Sounds good?"

No. No it doesn't sound good. If anything, it's far from sounding good. Before you could reply, she added, "Besides, there's plenty of persons out there deserves your love y/n. You're a kind soul, an angel to be exact. I'd hate to be the one to break you," she whispered, rubbing her thumbs across your cheeks. She admired the way your eyes close in content. Shalom knew how you were; you were a kind person, always willing to help anyone anytime any place. A tug of her heart always happen whenever she sees you helping someone. She can't put her finger on it, it's not like she would be able to figure it out either way.

"Open your eyes and let me see you." Her words were firm yet they held a gentle tone to it. Slowly you opened your tear filled eyes, gazing into her own. She felt a strong sense of unpleasantness wash over her heart. Was it guilt? Or was it something else? Alas, the poor woman couldn't know. "You'll be free. Don't ever look back from now on. Move forward with your life."

She took the chance to admire your features before slowly rasing off the bed and grabbing her clothes. With one last look, she walked out of the room, leaving you alone with your thoughts and the dead silence of the room.

You thought that with her leaving, it'd be better but no- it got worse. You craved her touch, you longed to hear her moans and the pleasant cries of pleasure she lets out but nothing can be done anymore. You haven't seen her in weeks, nor have you heard from her. You blamed yourself for falling for her in the first place. If it didn't happen, you'd have her in your life right now. But... the person who felt the most guilt was none other than Shalom, for not trying to figure out the feelings she had around you. She was inlove with you, but couldn't comprehend what it was but after all, it didn't matter to her. Those feelings are just minor inconveniences to her mission, her life and job as a tool.

Shalom and Chief's Chemistry- I'm surely overthinking this.

Every action this woman takes is subject to dual interpretations. Trust her, and you're awash in sweetness; doubt her, and you plummet into an endless abyss of suspicion, fraught with unease over her vagueness. Strangely, this makes you yearn for the fleeting moments when you allowed yourself to be vulnerable around her.

You look into her eyes, and she looks back at you. Those eyes remain enigmatic, a misty veil you can't quite see through-but that's not what matters anymore.

With a soft thud, the sound of fabric meets the ground. She removes her black gloves, and her slightly cool palms touch you again. Her slender fingers lightly grasp your wrist, gently caressing your skin as they slide upwards to intertwine with your fingers.

Before you can even question it, Shalom is suddenly next to you, so close you can almost feel her breathing. As you take it all in, her hand softly lands on your shoulder, her body leaning in, her whisper almost touching your ear.

You'd feel awkward if we weren't alone, wouldn't you?

With just a gentle push, you find yourself falling back onto the lounge's bed.

Her force is minimal; you could've easily resisted, but you can't. You're immobilized, your body feels like lead, and your thoughts blur into confusion.

It's as if something intangible has bound you-something that's neither her nor anything physical. A dim light seems to ascend your body slowly, almost hauntingly.

...Let go! What are you doing to me?!

The other person grins, eyes locking onto yours as she looks down.

Shalom: Why so tensed up? You've come a long way; yet so naive still?

Shalom: Shh... stay still... I won't hurt you, don't worry; I won't go further. Just relax, it won't hurt.

Shalom: If you keep resisting, it's hard on me too-you'll end up hurting both of us...

Shalom: You wish to delve into my true thoughts, to have me lay bare my entire being before you. Then use the shackles; I'll show you the depths of my soul.

You feel increasingly frustrated as you struggle with all your might. One hand does manage to break free and reaches for her collarbone, attempting to push her away. However, your movements are arrested by the vivid white light that holds you in place. Almost immediately, a hand that looks all too human gently rests on the back of your own.

She smiles and, holding your hand, slowly glides it across her skin. Ultimately, she places it against her neck, exposing her vulnerability as if inviting you into a psychological hunt.

Shalom: One of the conditions for activation is skin-to-skin contact, right?

Shalom: If not having shackles on me is unsettling you, then go ahead. It's all good. I completely understand. I'll meet your needs.

Isn't this what you've been yearning to do? You've gone through so much; you've earned this.

Something is infiltrating your awareness. You yearn to resist, but you find yourself drained of strength. You can't help but watch her as she leans over, her face drawing closer to yours with deliberate slowness, her voice increasingly elusive as it drifts into your ears.

Nighttime Routines

Shalom

Shalom is honestly just. So so so soft for this. I think she absolutely lives for nighttime routines, and doing them with her lover??? Ten million times better than doing them alone.

She likes to bathe in the evenings to wash away all of the sweat and dirt from the day and get all nice and clean before bed. On her own, she often just showers, but with you she would prefer to run a nice bath, soaking in the warm water together and washing each other.

Once you're out of the bath and all dried off, she does her nighttime skincare routine. I feel like she'd take really good care of her skin, especially on her face - she uses a special face wash because her skin is sensitive, then follows it up with a nice moisturizer. She probably also uses a gentle face scrub every week or so. Once that's done, she applies a nice buttery lotion to her body, asking you to help her with the harder-to-reach spots.

She'd be more than happy to help you with your routine as well, if you'd like, or she'd use her products on you if you want her to. Unrelated to nighttime routines, but a spa day with Shalom??? So nice. She'd pamper you so well. Maybe I should write that next.

Anyway, after she's bathed and put on her robe, her go-to nighttime activity is usually reading. She likes to settle in a comfy chair in her bedroom and read until she gets sleepy. Depending on your tastes, she'll adjust a bit once you start dating - she's happy to talk for a bit while you both wind down, or read your own books together, or even snuggle up and take turns reading together. She'd also happily read to you, if that's more your thing.

She also enjoys having a nice cup of tea and occasionally some light bedtime snacks while she reads and relaxes for the evening, so she'll definitely make those for you two and deliver them on a delicate silver tray. It's like a little sleepytime tea party!!

Once she's actually ready for bed, she's definitely a snuggler. She wants you close, she wants to hold you and feel safe and loved in your arms. She also smells so incredibly good - she always does, but especially after using all of the delightfully scented products after her shower. It's such a calming, soothing scent, and it suits her very well.

Langley

Langley doesn't have a super complicated nighttime routine, mostly because she doesn't have the time for something like that. However, she does implement a few things, mostly just to help her unwind and shift her mindset out of work mode.

She starts by drinking a cup of calming tea, as opposed to the energizing blends of tea or coffee she drinks throughout the day to keep her focused. The taste alone is enough to begin the mental transition, and she often seems to zone out a bit while sipping her tea as her mind slowly begins to shut down after another long day.

If you're still awake to join her for her nighttime tea, you often talk about how the day went. She tells you a few of the more interesting non-confidential things that happened throughout the day, and you quietly decompress together.

She often takes a quick shower before bed to get all clean and help clear her head. Sometimes she'll skip it and shower in the morning instead if it's extremely late or she's too tired. You'd be more than welcome to join her, of course, even though it easily triples the amount of time she'd normally take. She's gotta take care of you, after all~

She usually just washes her face with water, but she does apply a nice moisturizer afterwards. It smells really nice, and it helps relax her. If you'd like, you can use it, too. She'll even apply it for you if you want her to.

After her little routine, she usually goes straight to bed. She's such a busy person that she doesn't have time for a lengthy nighttime routine, and she's gotta get plenty of sleep to wake up early in the morning, after all. Her favorite way to fall asleep is with you in her arms, preferably with your head on her chest. She plays with your hair until she inevitably drifts off.

Zoya

Zoya doesn't really have a nighttime routine before she comes to the MBCC. She's never seen much use for one, and trying to find the time and resources in Syndicate was... not very easy.

If you were to ask her about her nighttime routine, she'd look confused, and hesitantly answer, "...I go to sleep? What kinda question is that?"

The first thing that becomes part of her routine is taking a quick (or not-so-quick, if you're involved) shower before bed to wash off all the sweat and grime from the day. She's always busy working out, training, and going on missions, so it's nice and relaxing to get clean after all that.

There is one thing that has been part of her nighttime routine for years, though. She needs to get off before she sleeps. It started because night was the only time she could really take the time to take care of her own needs, but it's also the best way she's found to shut her brain off and relax her enough to go to sleep quickly and easily. Of course, if you're in the mood as well, this often leads to both of you finishing multiple times before you pass out together.

She wants to sleep holding you. It's part of her instinct to be on guard and protect you during your sleep, even if it's no longer necessary. You're either tangled together with her arms securely around your waist, or she's spooning you from behind. Either way, she needs you close so she knows you're safe and sound. Sometimes you have to struggle to get away from her if you have to get up in the middle of the night, but she's a pretty light sleeper, so once she wakes up and realizes where you're going, she'll reluctantly release you. You'd better hurry, though, because she's not going back to sleep until you're back in her arms, and if you take too long, you'll have a grumpy, sleepy Zoya showing up to toss you over her shoulder and carry you back to bed.

Er, for future reference, I would like to know how she works?

I just started the game last night, so I'm unsure how the combat mechanics are and the descriptions are... confusing?

I'm sure I'll get used to them eventually, but it usually takes me around a week to get used to the UI and equate everything in the newest-played gacha game to something in my frame of reference.

Any help would be appreciated! Sorry this isn't an ask or a thirst or anything, when I get into the story and understand the characters, I'll see if I can send you something :>

DAMN aisno should be paying me and angey promo fees LMAO anyway, glad you've gotten into the game !! the gameplay takes some getting used to but if you can power through it the story is absolutely worth it, as i'm sure you've heard. i'll try and give a quick rundown of shalom's mechanics: -> her normal atk bounces around between enemies making her good for clearing a lot of enemies at once (known in the meta as waveclear. another character good at waveclear is NOX, but her waveclear is limited to her ult. still an overall excellent character, though.) -> her ult breaks 2 cores (the little diamonds on enemies). -> her ECB (exclusive crimebrand) allows her to put down a special diamond that allows her normal atk to bounce a few more times. useful in single target fights against bosses. however, her ECB is only unlocked when you reach past lvl70, so you don't really have to worry about it right now.

some tips for general mechanics: -> crimebrands are ptn's version of genshin's artifacts. crimebrands can be S, A or B. crimebrand main stats and substats are fixed. the gacha element comes from actually getting the crimebrand you want (usually, tuning zero). -> exclusive crimebrands are kind of like ascension talents from genshin. for some characters it adds some changes to their playstyles, like enfer getting corebreak, but for others it may just be a huge dmg buff. -> cores are the diamond symbols that appear on enemies. breaking cores puts the enemy in a state where they take increased damage, but it's only temporary. after a few seconds the boss will recover and you'll have to wait for them to regain their cores. some bosses spawn in with cores, others you have to wait for a while before they gain cores. -> characters who can corebreak have red in their icon in the character menu. -> tendencies are like honkai star rail's paths system. fury is equivalent to destruction (high dmg, high health); endura is equivalent to preservation (shielding, dmg mitigation, blocking more than 1 enemy); umbra is equivalent to hunt (high dmg, high mobility, low hp); catalyst is equivalent to harmony + abundance + nihility (buffs allied units, heals, debuffs enemies). the remaining tendencies don't really have an equivalent i can think of, but arcane characters deal magic dmg exclusively and have high ult dmg but low hp, while reticle characters deal continuous dmg over long range, but also have low hp. ideally you'd want to put arcane and reticle characters in your backline where they're safer. -> if i'm not mistaken, there's only 2 dmg types in ptn, either physical or magic. this has some importance in endgame content depending on boss resistances, but i think you'd be very familiar with the game by then to figure it out.

off the top of my head this is mainly what confused me when i started out, so i hope this will be helpful. for more help you can head to s1n.gg, which has way more information structure in a way more understandable format lmao. anyway, good luck !!

I haven't stopped reading these posts about the character you call "Shalom" and I'm curious, is it from a game? Is it an RPG too?

oh my god… where to begin. Shalom is from hit game Path to Nowhere and yes it’s a strategic RPG, it’s a tower of defense game. the writing in this game, the art through the character designs and creative CGs and original UI for each event— it’s so high quality. it’s genuinely my favorite game because all of their characters are nuanced and never either “good” or “bad”, and the world building is done in such a way that it’s impossible to not sympathize with these characters knowing the kind of unstable, discriminating world that they live in. and the themes explored (social disparity, discrimination, gang violence, corruption, deteriorating mental health, etc) are also very diverse, they’re not afraid to take a darker route and in my opinion they really do them justice. i don’t want to reveal too much about Shalom unless you want that because i think she’s best experienced yourself. her character is a wild and mysterious journey that is so beautifully tied together at the end, the feeling is wonderful. but i will tell you about her a little bit since you asked—

Shalom works for an organization whose main goal is to fight against the corruption called “mania”, you can sort of see it as a tangible and deathly sickness that happens to give certain people special abilities (said people are called Sinners and are wildly ostracized by normal/non-corrupted humans, who are the majority). Shalom’s essentially a weapon used against mania and bearers of mania. it’s kind of complicated to explain for someone who doesnt know anything about the game but basically she’s a being of complete rationality and logic and her organization uses her calculations to fight back against mania at any cost, so she’s seen as a reliable tool and nothing more. she’s under constant surveillance by her superiors, is fundamentally disconnected from any emotion and can never step out of line at the risk of being replaced. there’s so, so much depth to her character that’s best experienced by playing through her two events and interrogation (a feature where most characters get the conclusion to their arcs, it’s a literal interrogation) like i cannot stress this enough— her writing continues to blow me away. it’s fucking peak. the point, as you play, is that you understand that she’s a being of reason but you can see cracks in her behavior and words, and it makes her so intriguing because she’s not supposed to be imperfect (in this case, have feelings). i couldn’t possibly synthesize her entire character in one post without it being 7 pages long, but if you’re curious about the game you can always ask further questions. this game is so creative and unique, it would blow your mind. they have over 100 characters out right now and none of them are even close in terms of sharing a backstory/design/special ability like it’s truly a wonder. the voice acting is phenomenal (Shalom’s events are my favorite voice acting performances in the game, personally). please give it a try if you can, but yeah. this is Shalom 👇🏾
