Chainmail rules for medieval miniatures by Gary Gygax and Jeff Perren, 3rd ed printing by TSR, 1975 (first published by Don Lowry's Guidon Games in 1971), with Lowry's illustrations plus photos of early sand table games which originally used 40mm scale Elastolin and Starlux toy soldiers.

Combat in Dungeons & Dragons was developed around the d6 Chainmail rules, but the first 1974 D&D set also included an optional d20 system that became the more popular choice.

I’m sorry I had you waiting almost half a year for this drawing, life has been a lot. I did hours of research into this guy cause the last time I drove through Indiana was when I was 7 years old. Don’t worry I know that he is more than just corn (he’s got soybeans in his side pockets)!!

Fun bit if you can catch it: His bangs are in the shape of the southern half of the state!!

"The Hierarchy of the Planes of Hell," naming many of the Dukes of Hell and their patrons, roles, and lesser minions, from Gary Gygax's Monster Manual II for AD&D, 1983. This further describes the role of the dragon queen Tiamat ruling over devils in Hell, through her 3 Dukes Amduscias, Malphas, and Goap who command companies of lower ranking devils. Dispater's messenger Titivilus is given the specific title of Nuncio, implying high status as an ambassador. Some of these individual Dukes are detailed in the MMII, while others are left to the DM's imagination. Those marked by asterisks like Goap are meant to be pit fiends, though that clarification is missing from the text (they are identified as such in Gygax's preview of the new devils in Dragon 75, July 1983).

Adam and Robin:

🌑 (Sleep) -

Simple. They have their own sides of the bed, they cuddle in the middle. They have their bedtime routines. They wake up at 5 AM sharp no matter what time they go to bed.

🎼(Music) -

Both Adam and Robin prefer classical, but listen to anything up until the twentieth century.

Play something from the last twenty years or so, and they are confused as FUCK and hate it.

Quena and Gary:

🌑 (Sleep) -

They’re both light sleepers. Quena can only sleep in a normal position in a bed, but the moment she’s on the couch or in a chair? Starfish.

Gary can sleep anywhere in any position, due to his military training.

They do cuddle :)

🧵(Hobbies) -

Quena does anything to do with her hands; mathematics and engineering, especially. She loves to build little robotic toys for the Mini’s (her siblings) to play with.

Gary sketches. Just simple pencil sketches. He likes sketching sceneries and people.

They like to work out together, and blare music in the garage. Dance around like all young couples :)

🗣️ (Social) -

Neither of them are super social. Quena does seem like she’d be social— laidback, carefree, go with the flow type of vibes, but she doesn’t trust people easily. She’s also kind of mean to people she doesn’t know, insulting-ish nicknames are her love language.

Gary is more quiet. He loves people, he’s super friendly but he’s mute and not many people know sign language. He also anxious about with communicating with strangers, especially since many of them ask questions about why he doesn’t speak, and some of them get really rude about it.

They’re the definition of the ‘Excuse me, he asked for no pickles’ meme.

The Archivist, known as ‘A’, had a cat. A black cat named Lucky. They’ve had Lucky longer than they’ve been the Archivist, but they don’t remember what they were before… Lucky acts as A’s reconnaissance and messenger.

Michael:

Michael has a younger sister! Her name is Susannah, known as Susie. Her husband, George, is Michael’s brother-in-law. Michael has a niece and a nephew, Audrey and Jackson.

His and Susie’s parents were older. Their mum, Agnes Armstrong, is in her 80s, and their dad, Oliver ‘Old Ollie’ Armstrong, passed away due to a heart attack in his 60s.

when did you start shipping ef and gary in FFS? like was there a particular scene that you wrote that made you go ".... actually...." or did the idea just enter your brain and refuse to let go?

It was chapter two, actually!

My beta and I hardcore shipped them, and then I had to aggressively sideline it so I could focus on keeping their relationship professional, and also so that I could focus on Arden as the love interest!

But yeah, I think my interest actually started earlier, but I have it in writing with Silvia in a chat in chapter 2, because we were both going feral about it, lmao. A combination of 'omg but what if' followed by 'stop stop stop I can't', both of us together in a delightful circle :D

After that it was like, we knew it was there for a later story. When I knew I was solid in the ending of Falling Falling Stars I started letting myself think about it again (though not in that story, but for Underline). I actually think FFS Gary would be terribly incompatible with FFS Efnisien lmao.
