🎃Wheel of Halloween🎃

There's a post of a tweet saying that every 31st of the month should be a Halloween, and you know what? I'm a Halloween Witch. I'm an Idolater. I'm an urban techno witch who lives an air conditioned life, can't stand nature bigger than a park or local landscaping, and hates leaving the city except to drive to another damn city.

I have been struggling to connect to the Wheel of the Year or the Solstices/Equinoxes for freaking years.

But a cycle of Halloweens?

That.

That I can fucking do.

So, without further ado, I present the shit I will be actually celebrating. Ya don't have to join me, but I will be posting about it for those that wanna follow along, with options and cutouts for those who don't want to or can't do the more party elements.

With luck, I'll pick up on August 31st and go from there, if not, I'll start with actual Halloween.

Halloween

October 31st

It's muthafucking Halloween. I have ideas and will post about them more as we get closer, but you know what this one is.

New Year's Eve

December 31st

This one actually also exists, but I have plans for tying it to the January 31st one to bookend the year. The primary purpose of this Eve is gratitude and sharing the good things from the year before, casting off the trappings of the old year, and to bring the new one in with luck and prosperity.

Candle's Eve

January 31st

One month from the casting out of the old year, it's time to set things for the new. Cleansing and cleaning, setting intentions (not resolutions) for the year to come, making the Mask of the Year to call on who I aspire to be, burning the intentions set last year with last years candle, and blessing a candle to burn this years intentions next year are all features. Food and drink suggestions available when I actually post this up.

Hallow Ides

March 31st

Couple of these have fun names, and this is one of them. It's a party holiday, involving a picnic and a special cake/cupcakes/muffins.

The costume element is that I'll swap clothes or looks with someone I'm celebrating with (or dress up as someone else if celebrating solo).

There's a drinking element (non-alcoholic is fine) that results in a stack o' good luck charms.

And for my trick, I can and will sing the filthiest songs, tell the dirtiest jokes, read a romance novel or erotica, just go ham on the bawdy shit.

Alternatives for ace and non-sexing folk will be forthcoming in the relevant post, but it's my damn Wheel and I'm doing bawdy shit for myself.

Blessed Eve

May 31st

Not a bonfire person, but I'm definitely gonna have a cookout and grill up some burgers! Also a neat drink and cookies that both double as offerings!

Flower masks and crowns are involved to hide from the spring spirits that might fux me upa.

There's a Blessing Bouquet that goes up early, is used to exorcise and re-bless my property/house, and then is ceremonially burned.

An ash blessing to seal the prosperity into my house ties the whole thing off.

Fortune's Eve

July 31st

This one pretty heavily revolves around a ritual game of betting and chance that I came up with based on a cool concept tied into the holiday I'm aiming at. Game generates lucky candy and a good luck charm.

Hella apples involved including a ceremonial apple and cider. Veils worn for the blindness of luck, and a strong theme of having a game day.

Neewollah

August 31st

I'm actually pretty stoked for this one, and will do a more expansive post on it later this week. I really hope I can pull this together in time this year.

Idea is a bit Opposite Day, a bit of LiarWeen vibe.

Trick the cosmos into taking away the bad shit and giving me good shit through a ritual lying ceremony, wearing a mask of duality to further confuse the issue. Ritual ash anointing to lock things down and ensure I get the stuff I want and ward off the shit I got rid of.

Candy (obvs) but I (and anyone celebrating with me) has to ask, and the person giving it has to make a point of saying no...while forking over.

And of course, games like Never Have I Ever or Two Truths & A Lie, drinking optional. (I will...probably...drink. Just saying.)

So yes, some of those are closer to recognizable Sabbats. Some of them are so far off that they're not in the same neighborhood. Spoiler: the ones you don't recognize are based (very, very loosely) on Roman festivals that occur in the corresponding month.

Why Roman?

Cause they had a religious festival for everything, there's records I can squint at, and they had a strong mystery tradition that plays well with my schtick.

I am not a dedicated Rome fanby, to be clear, the empire is just very much gone, very well attested, and I can most likely swipe the shape of their shit without worrying about stepping on anyone.

And even then, I'm mixing time periods, even up to hijacking Medieval Xtian shit where and when I see fit. Cause I was baptized Catholic, and that shit is my culture to use.

Brazil's Supreme Court reaches majority to convict Congresswoman Zambelli

Brazil's Federal Supreme Court (STF) has a majority vote to sentence Congresswoman Carla Zambelli to 10 years in prison for hacking the National Council of Justice's (CNJ) electronic system in 2023. Case rapporteur Alexandre De Moraes, along with Justices Flávio Dino and Cristiano Zanin, have voted in favor of conviction, while Luiz Fux and Cármen Lúcia -completing the Court's First Panel- have yet to cast their opinions.

Dino and Zanin have also concurred with De Moraes on stripping Zambelli of her congressional mandate after the end of all possible appeals.

According to the Attorney General's Office (PGR), Zambelli was the mastermind behind the hack to issue a false arrest warrant against Minister Alexandre de Moraes. Investigators found that the hacking was carried out by Walter Delgatti, who is a confessed defendant, who has been handed down a prison sentence of 8 years and 3 months in prison in addition to making him pay R$ 2 million (around US$ 347.328 at the current exchange rate) for collective moral damages. That amount includes money to be paid by Zambelli, Agencia Brasil explained.

Landscape & Astro Photographer Angel Fux, Composite panorama of the Swiss Alps.

Angel Fux describes how she captured this image: “This is a panorama from a place in the Alps I have been looking to capture for over 3 years now. I decided to drive there twice within the same week to give me an idea of the environment and the conditions. However, between my two visits there so much snow accumulated at the summit I hiked up to. This not only made the trail more difficult to follow, but I admit, also more dangerous to do solo. I wanted to capture a landscape [of the Swiss Alps] that looked as close as possible to the conditions in May when I shot the night sky during the first Aurora superstorm hit; snowy peaks and visible lakes. And I wanted to capture a landscape that was facing northward for the auroras to be placed right where they appeared in reality. The Milky Way [in these images] is also placed exactly where it was on the night I shot it last October. The landscape panorama combines three moments at which it was captured: at sunset, at night, and at sunrise blue hour. All three layers were then carefully assembled to match the general night tone. As for the sky, it is a superposition of two panoramas, one for the stars and the Milky Way, and one for the auroras. I am very happy about the final result, as it was a rather complex composite to assemble.”

Baptista Júnior presta depoimento como testemunha na ação penal sobre o golpe de Estado fracassado que teria sido tentado durante o governo Bolsonaro, conforme denúncia apresentada pela Procuradoria-Geral da República (PGR). Questionado pelo procurador-geral da República, Paulo Gonet, o ex-chefe da Aeronáutica disse saber da repercussão do depoimento do próprio Freire Gomes, que negou ter dado voz de prisão a Bolsonaro. Baptista Júnior, ainda assim, disse confirmar o alerta feito pelo colega, conforme já havia sido relatado à Polícia Federal (PF). "Confirmo, sim senhor. Acompanhei anteontem a repercussão . Estava chegando de viagem. Freire Gomes é uma pessoa polida, educada, não falou com agressividade, ele não faria isso. Mas é isso que ele falou. Com muita tranquilidade, calma, mas colocou exatamente isso. ‘Se fizer isso, vou ter que te prender’", afirmou Baptista Júnior. Em seu depoimento, na segunda (19), o ex-comandante do Exército disse que não teria mencionado a palavra prisão, mas somente alertado que o então presidente poderia ser “enquadrado juridicamente” caso levasse adiante alguma medida ilegal. >> Siga o canal da Agência Brasil no WhatsApp Baptista Júnior acrescentou não ver contradição entre o seu relato e o de Freire Gomes, alegando que ambos confirmam o alerta feito a Bolsonaro, ainda que não tenha havido uma “voz de prisão” propriamente dita. Ao ser indagado novamente sobre o ponto, pelo advogado Demóstenes Torres, defensor do ex-comandante da Marinha, almirante Almir Garnier, Baptista Júnior afirmou mais uma vez que mantém o que disse no depoimento à PF. “Ele , com toda educação, disse ao presidente que poderia ser preso sim, mantenho isso”, reforçou. A fala de Freire Gomes teria se dado em uma reunião realizada em novembro, após o segundo turno da eleição de 2022, no Palácio da Alvorada, quando os comandantes das Forças Armadas e o então presidente discutiam “análise de conjuntura” sobre o país.

Minuta golpista e prisão de Moraes

O ex-chefe da FAB também confirmou em seu depoimento reunião com o então ministro da Defesa, general Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, no ministério, em 14 de novembro de 2022, em que lhe foi apresentada uma minuta de ato presidencial com a previsão de que o presidente eleito, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, não tomasse posse em 1º de janeiro de 2023. Assim como em seu depoimento à PF, Baptista Júnior relatou ter chegado por último ao encontro, quando Garnier e Freire Gomes já estavam na sala de Paulo Sérgio e havia um documento dentro um plástico sobre a mesa. Baptista Júnior contou ter questionado o ministro se aquele texto previa que o presidente eleito, Lula, não tomasse posse, e que diante do silêncio de Paulo Sérgio entendeu que sim. “Falei ‘não admito sequer receber este documento nem ficarei aqui'", disse. Segundo relatou, ao ser questionado pela defesa do almirante Garnier, ele teria ficado apenas um breve momento na sala, durante o qual o ex-chefe da Marinha não falou nada. O general Freire Gomes também condenou a minuta, acrescentou o antigo comandante da FAB. Em outro momento, contudo, Baptista Júnior confirmou o que disse à PF, que Garnier, em dado momento, teria colocado as tropas da Marinha “à disposição” de Bolsonaro. Questionado pelo ministro Luiz Fux por que, em sua visão, o plano golpista não teve sucesso, o ex-comandante da Aeronáutica afirmou que foi “a não participação unânime das Forças Armadas”. Outro ponto confirmado por Baptista Júnior foi que em tais reuniões ele presenciou a discussão sobre a prisão de autoridades. “Foi sim senhor”, afirmou, em resposta a uma pergunta de Gonet. “Isso era um brainstorm das reuniões, isso aconteceu”, assegurou. Indagado, disse se lembrar com mais convicção do nome do ministro Alexandre de Moraes, visto como um dos principais alvos dos planos golpistas.

Anderson Torres

O ex-comandante da Aeronáutica pediu para modificar somente um ponto em relação ao que havia dito anteriormente à PF, na fase de inquérito sobre o caso. Ele disse não ter mais a convicção de que o ex-ministro da Justiça Anderson Torres participou de alguma das reuniões em que esteve com Bolsonaro. “Gostaria de fazer essa retificação, acho que em tempo. Eu falei de boa-fé, mas não tenho a certeza da participação de Anderson Torres em alguma reunião”, disser Baptista Júnior.

Baptista Júnior foi arrolado como testemunha de acusação e por algumas das defesas na Ação Penal 2.668, aberta depois que a Primeira Turma do Supremo aceitou a parte da denúncia da PGR relativa ao chamado núcleo “crucial” do golpe, composto pelas lideranças do complô. Entre os réus dessa ação penal está o ex-presidente Jair Bolsonaro, apontado pela PGR como líder e principal beneficiário da trama golpista, e outros sete ex-ministros de seu governo e assessores próximos. As 82 testemunhas do caso começaram a ser ouvidas na segunda (19), por meio de videoconferência. Apenas o brigadeiro Baptista Júnior foi ouvido nesta quarta. As oitavas devem ser retomadas na sexta (23), com os relatos do senador Hamilton Mourão (Republicanos-RS), ex-vice de Bolsonaro, e do atual comandante da Marinha, almirante Marcos Sampaio Olsen. I've decided to check in and post on this account more often, cuz I thought it might be better for my mental health (Never thought I'd say that about Tumblr, but compared to Twitter and IG, this seems actually normal.) Especially fandom stuff and HCs without constant rudeness and fights.

If you don't remember, you probably followed me YEARS ago when I was either Prittiepink or Merlot-Madness. (Now Melleberry on my art blog)

I was in on this site every day until my mid/late 20s when Tumblr first started to decline, to which I followed the big switch to Twitter and then tiktok years later. Now into my 30s, between therapy, internal struggles, soul searching, people who have left, cutting contact, losing jobs; one of the weirdest things about looking back at my blogs is how much of a people pleaser I used to be. I hid A LOT of my interests and opinions because I was afraid of being judged or even just unfollowed/blocked, whatever.

Now, with a fully developed brain, expanded horizons, coping mechanisms, and zero fux to give, I found myself missing just having a place to look at fun stuff without being reminded of the broken system I'm forced to live in. I thought about creating a new account and starting fresh, and I still might change my mind about that. There are probably posts and reblogs buried here that I'd prefer to leave behind. But honestly, I'd rather have my growth in one place than just pretend I'm not who I was or am.

Anyway, this is still my reblog account with new hyperfixations over the years, and I have a lot fun memories attached to it, and maybe I'll start posting my writing and fan stuff (OMG, NO 200 CHARACTER LIMIT I FORGOT)

my drag race hyperfixation is reaching a point where I am now watching the international seasons and i have something to say about the translation quality drop on Drag Race Sverige (sweden) on episode 6

note: not swedish, don't know a lick of it, but I'm talking about all this more in terms of translation praxis

literally the first 5 episodes were so well translated and definitely very liberal with their approach to translation, it was so obvious how much care and time were being put into these and then 6 just kinda dropped the ball and went for this kinda stilted and awkward literal translation of everything, with way more being subbed than usual in everything which makes me thing (example, a lot more of the background noise was picked up and it says like [Bouncy music playing] or them catching the title card being sung in the opening, which wasnt done in the first 5 episodes) they might be ai generated but im not pointing fingers at that...

- Sweden's equivalent of "charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent" (that being Mod, Ambition, Riv and Artisteri (MARA, being a derogatory (although archaic?) term for women in Sweden) was translated as "charisma, uniqueness, etc." In the first 5 eps as such to relate the same idea to an international audience even if the words weren't *exactly* meaning ru's iconic phrase, it was clear it was supposed to be their equivalent. thats good! thats good praxis when you stick with it and are making these eng subs! ep. 6 gives up and translates it literally (iirc its "Courage, ambition, rivet, artistry" and its just like. yeah okay I guess. but that wasn't how it was translated for the first 5 episodes, so already we're lacking consistency. Bad. But now you're also losing the relevance that the phrase had through the subtitles. The subs act as a barrier in this way and not a gateway which kinda sucks!

- my second big issue is they fucked up the cute shit they were doing with Fux introducing the challenges with his gay little poems. To my ear, I'm pretty sure all of the introductions were simple poems that rhymed perfectly fine in Swedish. And eps 1-5 translated those really well, going line by line and making sure that they got across the same ideas that Fux is getting across, *and* making sure the translated poem rhymed as well, keeping this really adorable structure and I squeed seeing that! like they did that! They made poems for these silly little intros! Ep 6 completely dropped that and just translated it literally!!! BORING! HAVE FUN WITH IT YOU'RE TRANSLATING A DRAG COMPETITION WITH A GREAT HOST DOING A SILLY LITTLE POEM!!!! WHY WOULDN'T YOU TRY AND HAVE FUN WITH THAT

- My other big issue was fucking. Eps 1-5 the "she done already done had herses" equivalent was translated perfectly fine, every episode, and it's clear Fux is saying something in Swedish in a funny voice. It's translated as "Oh, darling, the glam of it all!" What does ep 6 translate it as?

Nothing. Gives up and says [gibberish]

That was my big tip off that this episode (I haven't watched 7 and 8 yet to confirm if this habit keeps going) may have been translated by AI or somebody who didn't have a translation sheet shared to keep notes on what was translated as what

I'm just so confused why literally 2 episodes from the finale you'd drop whoever/whatever group was translating this and from my perspective translating it very well and just

Have them give up!!! That's frustrating as someone who is trying to get into media translation and subtitling and stuff like that!

In conclusion: go watch drag race sverige, it's 1 season and 8 episodes and it's so fuckin good

Brazil's Justice Fux votes to hold big techs accountable for user content

Luiz Fux advocates for content removal upon company notification regardless of a court order

Justice Luiz Fux of Brazil’s top court voted on Wednesday to hold platforms accountable for user-generated content. He believes content should be removed when companies are notified, regardless of a court order. Justice Fux is the rapporteur for one of the cases being jointly judged with another case on the same topic, overseen by Justice Dias Toffoli.

The two cases discuss content moderation and platform responsibility for third-party publications. The distinction lies in Justice Toffoli’s case, which questions the constitutionality of Article 19 of the Brazilian Civil Rights Framework for the Internet, stating that big tech companies are only liable if they fail to comply with a court order for content removal. Meanwhile, Justice Fux’s case also deals with content moderation but refers to events before the enactment of the Civil Rights Framework for the Internet in 2014.

Before Justice Fux concluded his vote, Chief Justice Luís Roberto Barroso requested to review the case further, postponing the continuation of the trial to December 18. The trial had begun on November 27. At the end of Wednesday’s session (11), Justice Toffoli mentioned that the judgment might not conclude in 2024, as the Court’s recess begins on December 20.

Both rapporteurs have supported each other’s votes, resulting in two votes for holding platforms accountable for third-party content and overturning Article 19 of the Civil Rights Framework for the Internet. However, the extent of this responsibility remains undetermined as Justice Toffoli’s vote introduced several obligations for big tech companies, whereas Justice Fux’s vote had a more limited scope.

Alma Chapter 43, Part 2. "Espionage."

Happiness is being squandered so the Zoramites, apostates who practice religion but not humanity can have their way. They expand their empire, forcing the Nephites, the Wisdoms, to engage in combat. We leave the wilderness and live together in communities for the sake of survival and prosperity, not to create a place where bigots can wage war against people they don't like for whatever reason.
