"So, handling your archnemesis," Danny starts. The room falls quiet, heads slowly turning to look at the man as he writes the words on the chalkboard. When finished, the characters somehow both messy and neat at once, Danny places the chalk back down and claps his hands.
"I typically call them fruitloops. Often they're in a better position than you are- older, richer, more powerful. They may have some sort of status that protects them when facing the public."
Tim wondered where Dick was right now, and if he was laughing. His brain was lagging like a computer as he tried to process what Danny was saying, and how seriously a few of his fellow teen vigilantes were taking this.
"Some of their more common tactics are-" the chalk was picked back up, and Danny writes as he speaks.
"Manipulation, isolation, conditioning, and empathy."
MICE.
Tim stares at the board, and quietly slips put his phone.
-What have I done to deserve this.
Enjoy your lessons Tim-
His head thumps against the desk. Conner leans over, gives him a pat on the shoulder but returns to taking notes as Danny goes on to explain the conditioning tactic.

i don’t mind suspending my disbelief for leverage’s person-sized ventilation shafts bc that’s pretty standard for the genre, but that doesn’t mean i won’t laugh a bit at some of the egregiously large vents. particularly in the crowning acheivement job (lev: red s2 finale) because - well just look at this lol! harry and parker, two adults, can kneel side by side in those vents. parker can sit upright.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
that museum was made for vent crawling purposes. that’s just an extra room in the museum they forgot to decorate. the leverageverse has a thief union that successfully lobbied for a better working environment. these vents double as a playground for museum-goers’ children. i was crying with laughter thinking about this and harry’s vent crisis was NOT helping me remember that there was a serious heist thing going on lol, i love this show.

one 100 word email written with ai costs roughly one bottle of water to produce. the discussion of whether or not using ai for work is lazy becomes a non issue when you understand there is no ethical way to use it regardless of your intentions or your personal capabilities for the task at hand
with all due respect, this isnt true. *training* generative ai takes a ton of power, but actually using it takes about as much energy as a google search (with image generation being slightly more expensive). we can talk about resource costs when averaged over the amount of work that any model does, but its unhelpful to put a smokescreen over that fact. when you approach it like an issue of scale (i.e. "training ai is bad for the environment, we should think better about where we deploy it/boycott it/otherwise organize abt this) it has power as a movement. but otherwise it becomes a personal choice, moralizing "you personally are harming the environment by using chatgpt" which is not really effective messaging. and that in turn drives the sort of "you are stupid/evil for using ai" rhetoric that i hate. my point is not whether or not using ai is immoral (i mean, i dont think it is, but beyond that). its that the most common arguments against it from ostensible progressives end up just being reactionary
Tumblr media
i like this quote a little more- its perfectly fine to have reservations about the current state of gen ai, but its not just going to go away.

There's a post going around bsky about how to "somewhat AI proof your work" that tells authors to create a custom work skin that disables the ability for text in their fic to be selected, meaning it can't be copy-pasted, which means it can't be scraped.
This is only true in the weakest sense, and I'm putting this out before I see it hit over here because it will not work, and in fact it will kill accessibility to your fic.
See, in your preferences dashboard, you can literally disable custom work skins with a single tickybox:
Tumblr media
So all anyone has to do is select that option and they can continue to copy your fics into shatGPT to their heart's content.
You know what doing this does do, though? It makes it impossible for screenreaders to scan your fic for vision-impaired readers. I hope that most of them already have this option selected, but for those that don't, they may not even be aware it exists, and you've cut them off in exchange for "AI protection" on-par with a wet paper towel.
I hate genAI as much as anyone, but don't fucking do this.

it's kinda funny how English speakers will piss and shit and cry when they learn some japanese series doesn't have an English translation, and then genuinely get shocked when literally anything has (say) a spanish translation. like..... it's because people speak spanish and want to read it? you're not the only people on the planet?
it's so weird. like English is THE language that basically everything in the world gets translated to outside of very specific contexts, and with that comes an expectation that everything has to get translated into English and if it's not then life is so hard. and then at the same time it's genuinely amusing and a joke to people that people who speak other languages also want to read stuff. it's so self centred

When i feel shit and bad and depressed with my art, sometimes it helps to swing to a completely different medium! For example, you could scour Pinterest (or any neat app with pictures, really) and make collages for your characters, or paint, or do origami or other paper crafts! I personally got really into crochet (tiny crochet Vaschete, anyone? 👀)
(If you do end up picking crochet and you've never done it before, don't count your stitches. It's a good brain workout, but freehanding things like plushies is waaaay more fun for me and makes it more relaxing and less like a chore)
I'm not saying abandon sketching your wonderful pups, but trying out new things sort of helps lessen the "i am shit at this :((" feels because; well, yeah, you've never done it before, it's allowed! Plus, having a new skill is always good.
Something else could be doing bad art on purpose. For example, an artist i love started mimicking the way a child would hypothetically draw to help them with an art funk! (If you like to watch things in english, may i reccomend GinjaNinjaOwO's channel? Some of their more recent sketchbook videos really helped me out)
Draw a sketchy goofy intentionally badly proportioned Vasco or something, just for fun. That way when your brain goes "uhhhhh that's bad you're shit", you can reply "yeah duh i made it bad on purpose. Checkmate."
Most of all though, rest and be kind to yourself. This kind of thing doesn't last forever, and none of us mind waiting for you to get better. Brains suck but you do not suck <3

do you ever think about how we have phannies in every field? like we have doctors and baristas and mental health therapists and geologists and audiologists and engineers and neuroscientists and authors and social media consultants and activists and child care workers and museum managers and teachers and biologists and emts and linguists and accessibility coaches and sign language interpreters and artists and musicians and editors and actors and chefs and fucking EVERYTHING. not to mention the specific knowledge bases and hobbies we have outside of our professions—coding, linguistic and cultural diversity, artistic creativity, political/social awareness, passion for justice, research, make up and hair and fashion design, media literacy, philosophy, all of our special interests/hyperfixations, etc. we could run a successful commune no problem at all. we’re so smart and talented and resourceful and powerful.
the phandom is rooted in a past of being infamously shitty, and i do see yall slipping back into old habits sometimes (mostly on twitter but sometimes here and you know it <3) but it’s pretty fucking cool how capable this community is and our ability to unify. anyway phanmune when.
(if you want, leave your knowledge base/skills in the tags or replies. can be profession, hobby, major/program of study, what you study in your free time, what you want to learn about, what you’re interested, all of the above, anything)

“It didn’t take him long to find Earth 138’s Stone and Robotnik; their severe loathing of each other had prompted Stone to become a supervillain in his own right. He and Robotnik 138 were locked in an epic battle that was razing most of New York City in its wake. Drone fought drone; robot battled robot; civilians fled for their lives; and, in the middle of the destruction, Stone and Robotnik traded blows and scathing, silver-tongued insults.
Stone mockingly spat the phrase ‘ My Ivo ’ through bloodied teeth. Robotnik didn’t wait to see who won.”
