Redmond is a whole other can of worms, he is VERY vocal about what's on his mind which feeds into headcanon stuff a lot easier.

Had different takes on his backstory but have settled on Red growing up on a rabbit farm with his mother. He was always by her side and teased about being a mamas boy by his peers.

As he got older, Red developed a skill in lock picking (see the game over screen) and would regularly get out of his cage and hop the fence. He grew this fascination with the farmer who raised them and would sneak out to the farm house to observe. Often the farmer would be reclining in his chair watching tv and Red would watch with him through the window, which is where a lot of his pop culture trivia comes from. This, however, began the wedge in his mother's relationship where he wanted to explore and his mom would try to stop him.

Then tragedy struck. He snuck out one night and this time, his mother followed. But she didn't make it back. Redmond went looking for her in the morning.

I like to think that shortly after the death of his mother, he and a handful of other rabbits were purchased by Genron. Now he was confined in a new form of prison with no escape this time and left alone to process his feelings. Though he never really could.

I bring all this up because it is painfully apparent in the game that Redmond is a mamas boy. He's always crying out to her and always blaming her death on Spanx out of passive aggressiveness. But we never really know what happened to her.

It started out as "Don't you think I'm taking this rather well? Did you know a weasel ate my mother?" implying that he knows Spanx didn't do it, to suddenly taking her loss out on him. He never did see who killed her so he's using Spanx as a way to cope. Trying to put a face to his trauma so he can vent cause he couldn't bear the guilt that maybe it was his fault. It won't be until after the two escape that he can finally mourn for her death properly and let the reality of it sync in.

Part of an animatic I never finished where Red thinks about her mid-game. Eventually instead of using Spanx as an emotional punching bag, Spanx will give him that closure he desperately needed and a much needed friend to talk to after being locked up for years at Genron. Being pushy towards his mother just before her death and now living with that regret has also made him particularly clingy.

But y'know, that's just me over analyzing some funny voice lines in a b rated platformer.

I am so very glad you asked. That is Spanx the Weasel, the player character of controversial yet forgotten PS2 game Whiplash (2003).

The objective of the game is to escape from Genron, the animal testing facility that you're trapped in, and destroy as much company property as possible as you do so (the weapon of course being Redmond the rabbit, who Spanx was chained to in preparation for an unethical experiment which they narrowly escape from).

It received extremely average reviews all around and pretty much fell out of memory but it's a lot of fun!! Sorry for the long answer but whiplash is my favorite game and I love Spanx :) Thanks for stopping by!!

Desde que era estudiante he sido aficionado a la obra del crítico y filósofo Azuma Hiroki-san. La lista es interminable.

Cuando era estudiante en la universidad de Waseda, Azuma-san estaba dando clases ahí por lo que pude haber tenido la oportunidad de escucharlo directamente, sin embargo, por alguna razón no la tuve. It really was never even representative of all of the community, honestly. Akiko Mizoguchi has been doing queer feminist research into how common lesbianism is among fujoshi since the early 2000s, and her account of "becoming" a lesbian through BL is often cited in similar research, including James Welker's 2006 publication about the androgyny and barely veiled inherent lesbian-ness of early BL. Shihomi Sakakibara published an essay (Yaoi Genron) advocating for acknowledgement of transmasc persons in yaoi fandoms all the way back in 1998 as well. Many prominent gay male authors in Japan also chose to publish their explicitly gay work in women's magazines rather than other types of literary journals, as they were better received there at the time, indicating that perhaps a reason for perceived lack of representation in the fan derivative sphere has carried on as direct consequence of audience targeting early in conception of gay source materials, at least in eastern Asia.

Many of the notes on this argue that the reason for less femslash ships is because female characters just aren't as interesting or often well written, which could seem harsh at first but also is perhaps a synthesized creation of male dominance and control over media, especially historically-- premodern queer history heavily features extensive male gay sex of all sorts, but rarely large collections of female/female sexuality. The literary canon has been skewed to favor men and male sexuality since the beginning of time and continues to be so in many cases where men write and direct shows and books based on their own experiences, and the upheaval of that is a relatively new thing with precious little time to develop thus far, but the fruits of it are worth waiting for.

Update now that it's not 1 am: i also see in the notes that the original asker specifically cited seeing destiel/hannigram fandoms on their feed, which does sort of bring into question the idea of dash curation dictating your Tumblr experience. I personally do not like live action content, much less that which is white-dominated, but I've heard much criticism on how extraordinarily awful female / minority characters are written in these (I heard supernatural is Bad bad in this regard haha), which leads to back to the idea that there's just not that much fodder for f/f or nonwhite shipping within those fandoms. There's only so much fix-it you can do before it becomes another property entirely, I guess. There's also the issue of where this data is coming from: Tumblr is hugely Americanized, as is AO3 (especially with its censorship in China), so the results of who writes the most English language fanfiction on American-hosted fandom sites will naturally skew towards those demographics. My analysis is of course lacking in this regard as I'm somewhat unfamiliar with white American fandom culture outside of funny discourse, but from what I can surmise from the top ships it seems to be less genderbend-y than the origins of eastern Asian slash shipping? So that could play a role too

The one downside of this glorious tournament is that now I'm having to explain to my friends who are new to fandom that 90% of all fanfic is written by straight girls fetishizing gay men and there was never any chance of a femslash ship making it into the Top 4 😅

While M/M is definitely overrepresented in the AO3 stats, I don't think this is wholly representative of fandom. Even just looking at this bracket, out of the 5 femslash ships we started with, 4 of them have made it to this round, typically with wide margins and little competition. The userbase here is very attached to the few lesbian couples we got, and I think many are trying to get these pairings as far as they can.

This doesn't mean that there isn't an issue with fandom pushing white M/M pairings - this is in fact something which the creator of the data we used has written about! However, the common "straight girls fetishizing gay men" narrative is no longer very representative of the community. This is actually one of the reasons why we're planning to run our own demographics poll after the bracket ends, we want to see who our voter base is.

So I wonder about the post game au when it comes to Spanx and redmond having to handle the food situation. Weasels are obligate carnivores after all so he can't just split food with the rabbit.

That's a good point. In the beginning of their journey, I often imagine them breaking into gas stations, stealing from vending machines and scaring off the unsuspected victim who thought it was a good idea to eat McDonalds at a rest stop. Particularly because Genron has spoiled them on hyper snacks, Redmond in particular who eats them to level up and the game eludes they may or may not contain traces of crack or some kind of addicted drug.

But eventually, they try to break away from that to live off the land and Red is finding it surprisingly a lot harder to adjust compared to Spanx who has never even seen the outside world.

Redmond in the game brought up wanting to start a carrot farm and that's sort of his big step in making sure they have a sustainable source of food. Otherwise when trying to adapt, they forage for berries.

Spanx though . . . If he does get the taste for meat, I can see him taking the One Stormy Night approach with Gabu and eat field mice to sustain himself. He is a mystery to me cause of his backstory and not being an actual weasel. Would he have the same tendencies as regular weasels despite being artificial? I have no idea.

Splat-lash Au Lore : Kamabo and it's role

Within the crossover au Kamabo and Genron are combined to create a version of Kamabo that while looking same as usual on the surface hides an underbelly of terrifying experiments on those unfortunate enough to end up in the deep sea metro in Commander Tartar's pursuit to create a perfect lifeform to replace the evolved sea creatures. In the au Spanx and Redmond find themselves wandering into the various laboratory departments in between the tests to escape in order to shut down the more dark aspects of Kamabo Co for good. The sanitized have more roles in this au besides obstacles in tests such as the scrapped scientist/nurse octolings from the artbook returning as the ones conducting the experiments as well as the stronger sanitized subjects being used as security in case of any rogue test subjects. Like Genron does in whiplash, the kamabo in this au utilizes a device called the Genetic Recombinator in order to mix together the genes of test subjects that have been deemed no longer usable, resulting in a menagerie of mish-mashed subjects being hidden in some of the more obscure labs hiding within the metro, and if they can't escape Spanx(8) and Redmond(3) will suffer the same fate.
