Today is the day. And while this is only my third Easter as a believer, I wanna say something.

The thing is, at least in my country, that we focus so heavily (and maybe only) on Jesus as the sacrifice, the blood, the God crucified. That's it. We're looking up at the cross and seeing what comes after it, what it was for, what an immense pain and sacrifice was undertaken by God. The Glory and Mercy of our Heavenly Father and the death of His Son.

What I feel we're ignoring is THIS: while all of that IS the Truth, we have forgotten Jesus was human. He died Human way. He bled. He died like a slave. There was nothing supernatural in order to “defeat him and kill him” as God because he was also 100% human.

Jesus was human. He was born. Had to be taught how to walk and talk. He laughed. He wept. His hair had to be cut. He sweat. His legs hurt. The sun warmed his face. Probably had favorite food. Was once a teenager. Was just 30 when he started teaching. He led whole life, as a human being, before that.

Then 3 years happen and while he rises/reveals the other 100%, the Human 100% can't be ignored.

This year I am thinking more about that aspect. Because yes on Sunday we shall celebrate the resurrection. But Good Friday isn't just a stepping stone to it. And it's not just about celebrating/remembering the death of God.

I think of it all and it just breaks my heart. Judas was already dead. The 10 disciples fled. What meant the resurrection to Mary seeing her son suffer? What was it to John and Mary of Magdala, seeing their teacher and closest friend dying a long death. The dripping of blood into the soil. The groaning. The wind. The tears.

Jesus Christ died as a human. Was buried as one. And lived 33 years as one. Erasing that, looking away from that, and seeing him just as The Son, The Perfect Lamb, The Messiah, etc. (while again all above is Truth) doesn't sit right with me.

Because even atheists would be able to look at Jesus and cry for him, seeing the human part. While we, christians, only see the God part.

For many, Good Friday is celebrating a defeat of death and thanking them for the sacrifice that will be resurrected in three days and then risen into heaven.

For me, Good Friday is mourning for the man who died on the cross a horrible death and mourning for his loved ones.

I do not celebrate, or sing a ballad. Or offer or ask for blessing. I ache. For Jesus that was just Mary’s boy.

Hmm.

So, normally when I draw, I put something to play on my one computer screen while I have my references up on the other, as a form of background noise. I find music too distracting and I rarely watch anything with real humans in it, so it's usually an animated series I'm very familiar with -- FMA:B, Inuyasha, certain arcs of Bleach or Naruto, Uchuu Senkan Yamato, Death Note, Winx, W.I.T.C.H., etc. -- so that it's entertainment but not to the point of distraction.

I decided to go with FMA:B while working on this recent batch of commissions, as it has the additional perks of, one, being pretty much the only dub that has my approval (thus being extra less distracting by virtue of my not having to glance at subtitles now and then), and two, I've been toying with finally cosplaying from it this coming year and wanted a quick refresher. I'm not the best at math, true, but the possibility that my hyperfixation would abruptly jump tracks from one fandom to another didn't even occur to me because, come on, it's FMA:B, I've watched it a million times.

You tried to move- again, Only to no avail, not even budging an inch as Satoru's scarily firm grip kept you in one place.

"Satoru, I haven't even showered yet," You sighed. "And I look like shit." It was true really, you were fresh out of bed after a night of getting your world rocked by the man on his knees in front of you. Your hair was a mess, you were covered in bruises and hickeys with a mix of various fluids sticking to your skin.

Satoru promised to clean you up after round whatever-the-fuck but you were pretty sure that the man had collapsed on top of you after making you see the pearly gates for 15 seconds, kissed your forehead and said goodnight.

"Satoruuuuu-" You shoved his face away from your stomach, earning you a pout from him.

"Oh c'mon, let me love you!!" He complained, whining loudly as he nuzzled your stomach. Satoru couldn't help himself when it came to you really, you just looked so adorable walking around his kitchen, in his shirt, as his lover. The cuteness aggression he got from you was surreal.

"You've loved me a lot last night already, give it a rest!!" You tried to wiggle your way out of his death grip, which only led to him tightening his hold around your legs.

"A lot is not enough!"

"At least let me shower first-"

"Only if I can join you"

"Oh my god, fine." You relented, letting your arms go limp at your sides as Satoru beamed from below you. "Really?"

"Yes, really." In a second, you were raised up into the air as Satoru cheered in victory. He held you by the waist- And thank god for the high ceilings because you felt way too high up in the air.

You huffed in defeat as you were carried back to your shared bedroom, hopefully straight to the bath without any detours.

hope its alright to reblog with some tangential references i noticed, the second one may not be all that tied to dess but i found them interesting! (also apologies for my shitty screenshot quality, youtube hates me)

first off, in the knight fight, the dialogue that displays after susie or ralsei are defeated directly quotes mother 1 and 2. (i didnt notice this myself, i found out abt it thru andrew cunningham’s second chapter 4 stream, however he does falsely attribute both to being from earthbound, when only one is)

susie’s is from mother 1, being the dialogue for when your party members are defeated. pretty straight forward.

ralsei’s is from earthbound/mother 2, and its most notably the dialogue for when the teddy bear items are killed. teddy bears are an item exclusive to this game that will tank damage for your party when in your inventory. this one i actually caught on my playthrough as sounding incredibly familair, but i didnt quite connect the dots myself then. it is interesting the parallel placed on ralsei to just being an item, given his whole nature as a darkner, and i imagine thats part of the motivation behind the reference

this next thing is from the egg room in chapter 3. my immediate reaction upon seeing this for the first time was to completely lose my shit because Oh My God Thats Mother 1 .

for some context the forgotten man is a required npc in magicant, a realm created by the subconscious of maria (ninten’s great grandmother). he blocks the exit you need to pass through to progress the game, and will not disappear without agreeing to ignore him.

honest to god i could not tell you what to make of this reference, i barely have a read on anything going on in these recent chapters egg rooms, but its definitely an interesting connection to make. its one of mother 1’s more standout interactions imo.

(also, some context to the ninten’s mom being named carol thing for anyone unfamilar with the mother series; she is never named in game. same goes for ninten’s dad, and both of ness’s parents. the source cited on wikibound for her name was from earthbound central, which is now inaccesible afaik, however you can find a starmen.net forum post discussing this fact pretty easily, which ill link here if you wanna read it yourself. tldr is shes mentioned by name as carol in the manual for the original famicom release.)
