GUEST BOOKS WRONG ROOM AND WANTS OTHER GUEST TO SWITCH WITH HIM... (How Would You Handle It?)

This is what recently happened and how it was handled.

I have a guest (guest 1) who's been in one of my shared housing Bnb's for nearly a month. His work assignment was extended another month and he needed to extend. So he booked another room in the home for the month of December and didn't realize it was not the same room.

When he got his new checkout instructions for his current room and the check-in instructions for the new room he was very disappointed because he wanted to stay in the same room for convenience purposes.

When he contacted me to explain the dilemma, I had to notify him that another guest is booked and scheduled to arrive in 2 days. So he called Airbnb to cancel the booking however, they explained that because it was booked over a week ago and the room he booked was available he would not receive a refund.

So he asked me if he could contact the incoming guest (guest 2) and request that he'd switch with him. I explained that I couldn't allow him to do that but I would reach out and explain the situation to see if he would be OK with switching with him. He said that he'd also pay him $100 for the inconvenience.

When I reached out to guest 2 and explained the situation and guest1's offer, he asked if there was any major difference in the two rooms. I explained that the one he was coming into was off the kitchen and living room so it may be less quiet but other than that not much difference.

As a traveling nurse, good quiet sleep time is very important so he (guest 2) told me to let guest1 know that he would switch to the other room and to keep his $100.

When I called guest1back he was very happy and relieved because he really liked the place.

I then reached out to Airbnb, explained what happened so they could make the change in the system. They contacted each guest to confirm that they were in agreement and viola... All done, everyone happy.

I think that turned out to be another win for communication... What do you think? How would you handle that differently?
