So I'll answer them all together!

The process is different for the PCs vs NPCs, but all in all I work through coordinators and art directors. I rarely get the chance to 1 on 1 with talent. We work with a wonderful app called Airtable, which makes everything nice and organized and easy to deal with when you're drawing a bajillion characters. PCs I get mood boards and written descriptions, and we go through several rounds of ideation before landing on finals. They take the longest by far!

NPC-wise, I'm given a write up of the character and the timestamp for when they're introduced in the season. If they have a battle mini, I get reference pics of that, too. Yep, minis are made WAY before character art! I listen/watch the "stringouts" aka uncut/unedited footage of the sessions to get the vibe of the character, as well as any secret things that are important later i.e. someone in disguise, like The Skulker vs Johnny Manhattan in NSBU, or if there's some kind of historical importance to a character/secret hidden on their person that is important to visualize. These get done in batches :)

I wouldn't be able to get this done without the awesome dropout team - especially Eve, Skye Loremaster, and Alison ♥

As for Projection Illustrations - that's done before filming! We work closely with the battlemap team (love you Rick, Alison, and KC) and the projection engineers (GOATS Derek and Ruby) to make the beautiful sets the players and viewers get to enjoy. We actually work on the sets DURING film schedule - and CH has a LOT of art yall will get to see. There were times we finished the art the day before the episode was filmed!! But, the art has to be done before the cameras roll, as they're projected live behind the actors.

they try like ten more times, each with the same outcome. the little worm is good at what it does, scary good, and programmer is grateful that they went the extra mile with the sandbox layer of protection from it.

at a safe distance, the TCOs are brilliant sparring partners.

*(basically a mini computer running inside of (but held separately from) another computer) (used to test new features without risking a whole system)

on the twelfth go, they've learned enough of its tricks to have more of a chance. both of them take a moment after a long scuffle to catch their breaths. the stick figure gasps on the floor - it's amazing! so lifelike! and programmer is celebrating this little victory for the field of recreational AI right up until

it looks at them.

TCO #12 turns its hollow face out through the screen, looking at them.

programmer is unsettled.

can it see them?

their webcam is off.

surely it's impossible?

right?

and yet, it seems to see them regardless, because not only does it react to their reaction (little twitches eerily realistic, how did their program know to do those things), it capitalizes on their shock. it springs to its feet while they're still open-mouthed and reaches the walls of the sandbox window (which programmer had been herding them away from at all costs), crashing against the side, rebounding, and hitting them again and again.

programmer flails to reconnect to their Cursor (you know when you forget where it is and have to wave it around before you can use it again? like that, but with even more panic, confusion, and imminent peril).

there are cracks in a multitude of funny colors forming at the edge of the sandbox instance. pieces of the window dent out of its normal bounding box. The Chosen One adapts instantly, focusing its hits toward the weak points.

WTF! this has gone way too far.

programmer's Cursor swoops around from out of nowhere and catches the TCO by the base of its head. it tries to breathe fire and only manages strangled puffs of smoke. its legs kick the air. where once it was so elegant and poised it twists and writhes-

programmer drops it.

they feel cold.

their Cursor retreats outside the walls of the sandbox PC, clicking into the main system's File Explorer. already open is the folder with this sandbox, its partition of storage, and setup files inside.

they click it. press Delete on their keyboard.

the TCO tries to stand. it pushes through a dizzy spell, one hand holding the spot under its head that must be its neck, and sprints toward the breach it was working on.

a confirmation pane appears, from the process responsible for running the sandbox.

its arms are strong, but the more TCO_12 struggles the more it's clear that this wall would need way more firepower and concerted effort... and time... to break. it's out of time. it realizes this.

are you sure you want to end this process? ALL data will be lost.

programmer sees when it loses hope, because it abandons the wall. it abandons the whole game: the pride and dignity it fought with, the play-pretend that it held any real power here. it turns outward again, toward the screen. small hands slam against the barrier between them, knock-knocking faster, faster, please please please, its legs shake and give out but it keeps knocking, on its knees, please please please please PLEASE

the sandbox is deleted.

the window that displayed it freezes, lighting up too-bright and desaturated.

begging for what? it was never meant to know anything. to want anything. how did it know there was anything outside its reality to want?

Windows catches up, and sweeps the frozen program away.

programmer021 is left alone with the spot where TCO_12 used to be.

their friends want to play with their latest stick figures. they were supposed to update today.

programmer numbly uploads the most recent release build they have. killer and BEAST were fun to work on. they'll warn everyone not to touch TCO until.... until programmer works out how to... until ever, and if one of them does, it'll be their own fault.

Qualche notizia.

Lo so, è un bel pò che non scrivo e vi dirò di più è anche tanto che non passo di qua, perché al pc mi ci sono seduto poco in questo periodo, bando alle ciance. Ho trovato casa. Domani vado a firmare il contratto e farmi dare le chiavi, avendo anche il fine settimana libero farò tutto in 3 giorni, ho tante cose ma non tantissime, alcune le lascierò qua, come per esempio la batteria che non potrò suonare in condominio e che comunque ingombra, eh si, passo da una casa con giardino e fantasticherie varie a un mini appartamento da 39mq, però (è c'è sempre un però) in quella casa ha vissuto Picci, la piccoletta amica mia, quella che fa la Coroner, infatti mi ha passato il numero e wualà.

Se c'è qualche esperto di cabala o che si diverte a trovare significati assurdi ai numeri o alle combinazioni di numeri, vi do un input. A Ottobre compio 52 anni, auguri a me, ma sono anche 26 anni che sono partito da Catania, e avevo 26 anni; all'epoca ero partito per quella che definivo 'un'avventura', la meta finale doveva essere Londra, adesso sembra che quel tema stia ritornando in auge, con una piccola variante (oltre all'età) che non vado da nessuna parte, per ora, e che dovrò comunque passare un periodo di decompressione da questo finale rocambolesco e doloroso, non vi dico altro perché mi sono promesso di non pensarla neanche, anche se per ora dorme al di la di quella porta (che voi non vedete che però è a un paio di metri da me).

Questa versione dei tre capitoli di Harry Potter per la PS2 sono letteralmente la vita 😍

Da quando ho scoperto l'arte dell'emulazione dei vecchi game per la play 1 o la play 2, non mi sono più fermata

Vi spiego....

Io sono amante e fan della saga di Harry Potter sin da bambina, quindi avevo 6 / 7 anni quando vidi il primo film e successivamente gli altri, per poi continuare a far crescere la mia passione per la saga leggendo i libri e poi giocare ai videogiochi

Di fatti, quando a quella fragile età ho scoperto la versione per PC dei 3 videogiochi che all'epoca andavano molto (sì sono cresciuta già con la versione per PC, perché i miei non si potevano permettere di comprarci una console) non riuscivo a smettere di giocare ler quanto ero belli e ti intrattenevano come si deve per quelle 4/5 ore dopo finito i compiti

Pian pianino però la mia passione sì affievoliva sempre di più, fino a quando - nel lontano 2023, più precisamente a Natale, mio fratello mi fece conoscere Harry Potter e la pietra filosofale per XBOX, e da lì ne rimasi meravigliata per quanto fosse stato ben fatto e curato nei mini dettagli che da lì ne volevo sapere di più, come per esempio se anche gli altri 2 (HP2 e HP3) fosse per la console...

E di fatti ho scoperto che la stessa versione dell'XBOX 360 dei 3 game è la stessa sia per la play 2 che per GameCube, due console che si potevano facilmente emulare su PC Windows, a differenza dell'XBOX che non così facile farlo visto che non hanno creato un emulatore stabile per poter giocare ai game per XBOX sul PC.

Quindi ho ripreso in mano il primo capitolo della saga, l'ho giocato e così con gli altri 2 game scopre che sono state le versioni migliori rispetto alla versione per PC da cui hanno tolto la parte di Diagon Alley e molte altre cose

Insomma sono 3 giochi ma completamente differenti

Day 55

Giorno 55 - ieri.

Totale caffè bevuti: 2 (rifiutato terzo caffè dopo cena).

A pranzo: sapendo di dover restare fuori a cena, ho cercato di restare leggero... senza riuscirci. Fritturina mini di calamari e verdure, contorno di patate al forno.

A cena: bruschetteria. Bruschette di 120cm divise per otto e multigusto. Per fortuna c'erano anche dei pezzi con verdure (radicchio, erbette, etc) e frittini di contorno. Birra, Cheesecake (maledetta, ci sto ancora male oggi) al caramello e amaro a fine serata (Sibilla con ghiaccio, molto buono).

Rientrato a casa, scopro che c'è un guasto sul LOS della borchia fibra, e questo significa guai: primo, perché non è un guasto generalizzato (benedetto downdetector) ma fisico, sul cavo di fibra, e secondo perché è impossibile che il tecnico esca nel weekend, specie se non è stato chiamato quando ancora era possibile, cioè venerdì mattina. Mia moglie ha preferito aspettare che rientrassi io a tarda sera ed eccoci. Stamattina ha chiamato il supporto e pare che il tecnico esca lunedì, a meno di miracoli. Per fortuna nessuno dei due è dipendente dalla rete di casa e abbiamo comunque una buona offerta per la connessione mobile... ma per oggi sicuramente non si fa streaming sulla tv. Già è tanto che io sia riuscito a collegare i miei pc all'hotspot del telefono.

Una nota positiva: non volendo impattare troppo sulla connessione, invece di tenere Spotify attaccato sto usando la mia vecchia cartella di musica in MP3, e mentre scrivo questo post sto riascoltando "A Moon Shaped Pool", dei Radiohead, caso unico di disco che ho acquistato in digitale.

Vedrò di godermi questa giornata parzialmente unplugged.

La mia prima settimana con una PSP 3000...

È da un po’ che mi frullava in testa l’idea di prendere in mano una PSP, e alla fine l’ho fatto. Dopo anni passati a guardarla solo da lontano nei mercatini o nei video YouTube delle "tech revival", ho deciso di iniziare questa mini avventura con una bella PSP 3000. Esteticamente? Spacca. Compatta, leggera, super ergonomica… e quel vibe retro-futuristico che ti fa sentire in un episodio di Black Mirror ambientato nel 2008.

Ho passato l’ultima settimana in sua compagnia, e devo dire che è stato un bel tuffo nel passato, ma con il gusto e la testa di oggi. Un mix strano e soddisfacente.

I giochi che mi hanno accompagnato (finora)

Appena accesa, ho installato ARK-4 come custom firmware – facilissimo, tra l’altro, specie con l’adattatore Memory Stick to SD che ti apre un mondo. Attacchi al PC, metti giochi, plugin, temi… insomma, un parco giochi tascabile. Ho subito cambiato sfondo con uno a tema JDM (perché le auto giapponesi hanno sempre il loro perché), poi via col download dei primi titoli:

Silent Hill: Origins – Iniziare con questo è stato quasi terapeutico. Un po’ di horror psicologico per rimettere in riga la mente. Atmosfera cupa, controlli sorprendentemente buoni per la console, e l’audio in cuffia è qualcosa di assurdo.

Manhunt 2 – Ecco, qui si va proprio sul disturbante. Ma dai, ogni tanto ci sta.

Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition – Corri, sgomma, nitro. Super arcade, super divertente. Le gare cittadine con le IEM nelle orecchie sono un’esperienza mistica.

Dante’s Inferno – Il gioco che ho macinato di più in assoluto. Un God of War wannabe? Forse. Ma lo stile visivo, le ambientazioni e il ritmo lo rendono un titolo perfetto per la PSP. E poi dai, stai letteralmente picchiando demoni nell’Inferno. Come si fa a non amarlo?

Il feeling: tutta un’altra cosa

La cosa che mi ha colpito più di tutto è il feeling. Non c’è la corsa al ray tracing o al frame rate. C’è la voglia di sedersi, giocare, e basta. E questo approccio più rilassato – ma allo stesso tempo super immersivo – mi ha fatto riscoprire il piacere puro del gaming.

L’audio, poi, è stato il tocco finale: IEM nelle orecchie, volume a palla, e via che si parte. Altro che Steam Deck o Switch OLED. Ok, esagero, ma... non troppo.

Batteria, grafica e nostalgia pura

La batteria dura tra le 5 e le 7 ore, dipende dal titolo e da quanto sei immerso. Non male per una console portatile con più di dieci anni sulle spalle. La grafica ovviamente non è 4K – ma chi se ne frega? Quel look da “metà anni 2000” ha il suo fascino. Un po’ come riscoprire una vecchia felpa che adoravi: magari non è alla moda, ma è comoda da morire.

E adesso?

Sicuramente continuerò a usarla. Sto già facendo una lista di altri titoli da provare (spoiler: ci sarà roba JRPG, qualche platform, e forse anche un paio di giochi brutti ma iconici, giusto per il meme). Voglio vedere fino a dove posso spingere questa piccoletta.

La PSP è una di quelle console che, se la prendi nel momento giusto, ti regala esattamente quello di cui hai bisogno: leggerezza, immersione, e una sana dose di nostalgia.

E se mentre giochi a Dante’s Inferno senti di nuovo quella magia che avevi da ragazzino, allora sai che hai fatto la scelta giusta.

(In mezzo metterò qualche foto: della console, del setup con le cuffie, qualche schermata dei giochi… quelle belle foto "lo-fi tech" che danno il mood giusto.)

Il NiPoGi E2 è un mini PC che si inserisce in un piccolo case da 10 x 10 x 4 cm e promette comunque potenza sufficiente per le attività quotidiane. Ho testato se il computer ultra-compatto offre davvero buone prestazioni in home office, multimedia e come mini server domestico. Prima impressione Questo mini pc si presenta con un design che pone l'accento sulla ultra-compattezza. Le sue dimensioni di 10 x 10 x 4 cm lo collocano tra i dispositivi più discreti sul mercato, offrendo una notevole flessibilità di posizionamento in diversi contesti, dall'ufficio domestico al soggiorno. La scocca è realizzata interamente in plastica. Sebbene l'aspetto iniziale possa suggerire una maggiore qualità, grazie a una finitura color rame che simula materiali premium, un'analisi più attenta rivela la natura plastica del case. Questo aspetto rappresenta un punto di differenziazione rispetto a concorrenti come GEEKOM, che spesso optano per case in alluminio, notevolmente più robusti e capaci di offrire una migliore dissipazione del calore. Ieri ho aspettato il gatto fino alle 3 di notte perché lasciarlo fuori con zero gradi mi sembrava una punizione troppo pesante, era uscito almeno un'ora e mezza prima, ma nonostante l'abbia chiamato per un'ora non è venuto, sicuramente è andato a farsi un giro chissà dove, strunz. Quindi oggi mi sono alzato parecchio tardi con lui che mi guardava sonnecchiante ai miei piedi, sto strunz, ma cosa puoi dirgli? Lui non comprende le necessità umane come noi comprendiamo le sue, anche se spesso sono più rotture di coglioni come questa appunto, ma non è il solo. Appena sveglio vado in cucina e guardo fuori nevica come se non l'avesse mai fatto e sapete che mi finirà a spalare una volta finita sta tormenta, ma non è finita qua, la mia compagna mi avverte che per la fine dell'anno la festa si fa da noi, addio tranquillità e momenti di silenzio, senza contare che dovrò smontare tutto su questo tavolo, lo so non sapete, ma il tavolo nel soggiorno dove c'è il pc da dove scrivo e faccio le varie cose è una sorta di mini laboratorio, c'è la stampante normale (che stampa anche la parte bianca dei CD, presa esclusivamente per questo), c'è la stampante 3D con i vari filamenti, c'è lo spazio centrale dove creo le mie cose, anche se ultimamente sempre meno. Ogni volta quindi che c'è qualche festa o riunione familiare devo smontare tutto per poi rimontarlo finito tutto, si per me è un casino, ci sono una quantità di cavi non indifferente, ma questo è il minimo, a me non va di passare ore a sentire gente ubriaca parlare in una lingua che ne capisco il 10%, non è astio verso i suoi parenti, più una sorta di rigetto non verso loro direttamente ma verso sto popolo poco incline alla comprensione che esistono altri modi di vivere nel mondo, in poche parole non mi va per niente, anzi diciamo che mi sono abbastanza innervosito per questa cosa. Conoscendo la sua testardaggine e visto che mi ha detto che gli altri anni si sono ritrovati a casa degli altri non posso neanche replicare e cercare di mediare per evitarmi questo strazio, sono fottuto. Senza contare che dovrò anche cucinare per diverse ore visto che sti qua mangiano più dei calabresi, ma la cosa che mi rompe di più è che sicuramente porteranno dei fuochi d'artificio che è una delle cose più inutili che l'umanità abbia inventato. Poi c'è l'annosa questione di festeggiare dei numeri, cosa cambia? Il 2023 è stato una merda e non penso che il 2024 sarà migliore e bisogna anche festeggiarlo?

Stamane mi sono trovato, cambio di discorso, gli auguri di natale su FB di un tizio che è simpatico per carità ma che non sa la regola principale, cioè che se mi fai gli auguri ti banno, non l'ho scritto quest'anno perché pensavo che tutti si ricordassero di sta cosa, ma si vede che a lui è sfuggito, gli ho fatto notare che l'avrei dovuto eliminare, ma visto che forse non lo sa o non lo ricorda per sta volta la passa liscia, ha replicato che il padre era ateo ma che si facevano gli auguri per tradizione, a parte che non sono tuo padre e quindi fotte sega delle tradizioni (non gli ho scritto questo non sono così irriverente), gli ho solo scritto che per me non è solo una questione religiosa, finita li.

Ho 28 anni. Ho un lavoro, dove guadagno abbastanza bene. Ho un mac. Ricordo che quando ero all'università ne avrei voluto uno. I miei genitori per natale, mi avevano comprato l'ipad mini. Era stupendo. Ma il Mac era un sogno nel cassetto. Non potevo dicerto permettermelo con il lavoro da baby sitter o con le poche ripetizioni che davo. Poi ho iniziato a lavorare come segretaria in un centro fiscale, mentre frequentavo l'uni. quell'iPad per prendere appunti non mi serviva molto. Non li prendevo, mi facevo mandare gli appunti da i mei compagni, o compravo direttamente le dispense. E quell'iPad li non potevo usarlo per fare molto, non era compatibile con i pennini. Ad una certa mi sono presa bene con il disegno digitale. Un Giorno pensando di avere un talento represso per il disegno ho comprato una lavagnetta da collegare con il pc. Ma ovviamente ero scomoda. Puntavo all'iPad con il pennino per poter disegnare. E alla fine è arrivato. Ad un compleanno. Avevo fatto una testa enorme al mio ex. Così con tutti i suoi amici (suoi perchè chi li vede esente più) e con l'aggiunta di qualcosa di mio l'ho preso. Non ho nessuna dote nel disegno. Avrò anche tecnica ecc, ma non ho fantasia. Non so che cazzo fare quando ho un foglio bianco davanti a me. Anche se lo coloro, non cambia.. Ho dentro solo il vuoto. Nessuna ispirazione. Nada. Quindi è li a marcire. Dopo 6 mesi ho cambiato lavoro. Ho subito pensato di usarlo. Ma ovviamente per lavorare su excel o controllare tutti i mille programmi, mi ero stretto. così dopo aver assistito alla mia prima riunione, dove tutti (TUTTIII) avevano un mac, sono andata a comprarlo. Ora ho un mac. E fondamentalmente non mi serve ad un cazzo.! l'unica cosa di bello che ha? non ci sono antivirus da istallare. E' stato faticoso anche imparare a usarlo. Se scorrevo troppo in fretta tornavo indietro. sbagliavo a premere tasti e cancellavo tutto. un disastro. Ho anche chiesto al mio ex Area manager (che ha deciso di ignorarmi per la millesima volta senza di nuovo un motivo) di darmi lezioni. Non lo ha mai fatto. Ho una casa di proprietà, con una cucina.. ha l'isola, un piano cottura ad induzione, la lavastoviglie. Non ancora usata, non so manco come si accende. Ho un bagno che porca miseria mi è costato 10 mila euro ristrutturarlo. Ho un balcone con tanto di set da giardino. Ho una macchina. Mia. Che porca miseria le multe che prendo in giro mi uccidono. Ho esattamente alcune cose che avrei voluto avere. Le ho. E non mi bastano. Non mi servono. Non mi rendono felice. Mi manca sempre qualcosa. Sempre. Arrivo in un punto e quando arrivo non me lo godo. Non ne gioisco. Non mi Accontento. E cerco altro. Come se dovessi continuamente dimostrare a qualcuno qualcosa che non so. Come se tutto quello che faccio non fosse abbastanza. Come se avessi bisogno di muovermi sempre perchè se mi fermo sono finita. Dove finisco se mi fermo? Penso? e Pensare non va bene?. Perchè? Lo so perch��.. e fa male.. Sono così miserabile che penso di aver bisogno di qualcuno per essere felice. Come se avessi bisogno di qualcuno che voglia me e solo me e nessuno al mondo. Ma non esiste nulla di tutto ciò. Nessuno mi salverà. Devo salvarmi da sola. Perchè ho usato questo termine "salvere"? perchè penso che io abbia bisogno di essere salvata..? da cosa? dalla solitudine? della paura? ....
