Il film originale "Uomini che odiano le donne" (Män som hatar kvinnor) è una produzione svedese/danese/tedesca del 2009, diretto da Niels Arden Oplev. È il primo adattamento cinematografico della celebre trilogia "Millennium" dello scrittore svedese Stieg Larsson.

Il film segue le vicende di Mikael Blomkvist (interpretato da Michael Nyqvist), un giornalista d'inchiesta che, dopo essere stato condannato per diffamazione, accetta l'incarico di un ricco industriale, Henrik Vanger (Sven-Bertil Taube), per indagare sulla scomparsa di sua nipote Harriet, avvenuta quarant'anni prima.

Per aiutarlo nelle sue ricerche, viene affiancato da Lisbeth Salander (Noomi Rapace), una giovane e geniale hacker con un passato travagliato e un carattere introverso e ribelle. Insieme, Mikael e Lisbeth scopriranno una complessa e oscura rete di segreti familiari, violenze e omicidi legati al passato della famiglia Vanger, portando alla luce verità sconvolgenti.

Il film originale svedese ha ricevuto ampi consensi dalla critica internazionale, contribuendo a lanciare la carriera di Noomi Rapace e a far conoscere la trilogia di Larsson a un pubblico ancora più vasto.
