aro & ace books: robots, cyborgs, etc
This Golden Flame - one MC is an aroace girl, the other is an automaton (no sexuality)
Hamlet, Prince of Robots - various ai/robot characters, Hamlet is ace mlm and Ophelia is aroace
The Cybernetic Tea Shop - romance between an asexual woman and robot woman
The Murderbot Diaries - murderbot has no sexuality or gender, but also, not feeling sexual/romantic attraction / being repulsed by it is essentially aroace coding. also if I left this out everyone would comment about it !
Heart of Iron - word-of-god ace MC, her love interest is an android
The First Sister (trilogy) - one MC is lightly ace coded, Synthetics (ai/robot people) are a significant element later in the series
Yours Celestially - one of the two MCs is a nonbinary AI, who very lightly references not feeling sexual attraction at the end

June 21st Weekly Update
Hello guys! Again I really appreciate all of the stats sent in — they've been extremely helpful in terms of balance so I can keep writing my variations the way I have and don't need to make any huge changes! ☺️
Game updates:
Introduced Fancy!! 🎉Here's an unedited peek at the choice of what animal/monster Fancy is:
Tumblr media
Yeah, the spider has cute lil claws on the end of each foot. I love them.
Otherwise, I'm still pushing the plot forward to get MC to Sentari! Getting close, now!!
This coming week might be a bit on the slow side just because of overscheduling my time and I'm trying to finish Silver Elite by Dani Francis for my book club — wish me luck, though, because I am straight up having a bad time with it. 🥹😂 I swear, if Hamlet, Prince of Robots doesn't win the voting poll for July I will ugly cry.
Have a wonderful rest of your weekend!

Hamlet of Oberon - January 31st, 1997.
"What's in a name? Since 1919, the International Astronomical Union has been charged with the task of establishing "conventional" nomenclature for planets, satellites, and surface features. For the remote Uranian system of moons, namesakes from Shakespearean works have been chosen. Thus Oberon, king of the mid-summer night fairies, is also Uranus' most distant and second largest moon, and Hamlet is a tragically large and princely crater on its surface. The above image represents known surface features of Oberon and was constructed by the U.S Geological Survey (USGS) based on data from NASA's robot explorer, Voyager 2. Hamlet is the large dark crater to the right of the center. In 1986, Voyager 2 flew through the Uranian system - so far it has been the only spacecraft to do so."

Hi! You said you read several Hamlet retellings - are there any you particularly enjoyed and would recommend? :)
Hey! Oh for sure!
My personal favorite was the King of Infinite Space by Lyndsay Faye. It’s a queer modern retelling and I thought it did a really good job with keeping the core of the original while also being its own thing. Low key obsessed with the way Hamlet/Ben’s narrative was handled. I’ve been honestly considering re-reading it because of how much I loved it.
I also really enjoyed the Death I Gave Him by Em. X. Liu. It was basically a locked room thriller sci-fi kind of Hamlet. It was honestly so unique and I loved the way that the narrative was told from a collection of reports from the survivors/transcripts of video footage.
Hamlet, Prince of Robots by M. Darusha Wehm was also an entertaining novella where Hamlet is an android. I honestly wish this one was longer because I think it would have really benefited from more time to better flesh out some of the ideas in it but it’s a fun quick read.
And then if you just want to have some fun To Be or Not to Be by Ryan North is a Hamlet choose your own adventure and it’s just so silly and fun :)

Writer intro or something
Hey! I’m G.J, I’m an aspiring writer and (kind of) fanfic writer! I wrote Old Republic fanfic when I was 12 and was never the same again. I’m particularly fond of dark fantasy and revenge stories.
current interests: MW2, Dungeon Meshi, Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Fear and Hunger, and Jujutsu Kaisen.
here are some of my WIP’s! (Jfc there’s so many)
Altered_Humanity: The New (and better) version of Augmented Humanity. Post apocalyptic urban fantasy. Humanity already collapsed centuries ago, and whatever’s left is being wiped out by the remnants of a fantasy world that strangely fused with ours when it began to die. An android and a demi-god are convinced they’re the good guy, fighting each other for the greater good. (Inspo: NieR: Automata, Drakengard 3, Dying Light)
Tales of the Sculpted Lands (my magnum opus): A Dark Fantasy anthology, about various stories and myths of the ever-evolving sculpted lands. (Inspo: Berserk, Demon’s Souls, ICO trilogy)
Grayguard: A fantasy adventure story about a group of “elite” knights with three goals in mind
1: rescue their master from an ancient demon with magic robots
2: stop the major kingdoms from imploding after said master got kidnapped
3: Therapy? (Inspo: Aurora, Jujutsu Kaisen, Tears of the Kingdom)
WanderStruck: About a popular knight that gets kidnapped into the regular world and his growing love for the nerd who got him there (inspo: Panty & Stocking, WALL-E, Little Witch Academia. Yeah I know these make no sense)
Shadows Over Novald: An Urban Fantasy story about two peculiar partners in crime when their home, the city-state of Novald, is cloaked in darkness, the only way to lift the curse is to kill the five magic wielding humans that lurk in the city. There’s magic, espionage, a dash of steampunk, and so, so much murder and chaos. (Inspo: Discworld, Inglourious Basterds)
Chaos Travelers: A dragon bard with a southern accent, a necromantic death cult runaway, a cat lady with magic paint, and a knight with a spooky clone get invited to save an island kingdom. The results? Absolute madness. (Inspo: Dungeon Meshi, Belkinus Necro Hunt)
And here’s my AO3 fics!
Little Doll (Bloodborne Fic): about the doll after the events of the third ending. With the reborn hunter in her arms, she goes on a little journey to the physical fishing hamlet and nothing bad happens along the way.
Breathtaker (COD fic): Soap and Ghost didn't get along too well when they first joined 141 (Or did they?) but all that changes when their mission to Alaska goes sideways.
AO3 Original Works (that are actually out):
LunuL: about three bounty hunters in the year 2199. they trek across the Solar System being mediocre at their jobs and accidentally get wrapped up in several conspiracies and near death experiences. (Inspo: Cowboy Bebop, the Mandalorian, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and a bunch of other sci fi shit)
Loop of the Hollow: About four friends reuniting in their hometown of Ciclo, Texas. However, there is much, much more to the town that it seems…
Viscered: About a father taking care of his 10 month old son after the death of his wife, and his past as a bio weapon coming back to bite him in the ass. (Inspo: Prototype, Berserk)
Our Lonely Ocean: About a prince-turned squire and his commander, and their many, many shenanigans as they stumble into romance while hunting monsters together. (Inspo: Adastra, Dungeon Meshi…and a little bit of Peter Hart) (REWORK ONGOING)

Mid-Year Book Freak Out
Stolen (politely) from @pterawaters - thanks!
Number of books you’ve read so far in 2024: 24! Haha
Best book you’ve read so far in 2024: I have to pick one? Sheesh. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by Victoria Schwab AND Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, tie.
Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2024: Crooked Kingdom, also by Leigh Bardugo. I'm in love with the whole cast, and it continued the story perfectly.
New release you haven’t read yet but want to: Running Close to the Wind by Alexandra Rowland (in progress and it's great).
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year: Heavenly Tyrant by Xiran Jay Zhao.
Biggest surprise favorite new author (debut or new to you): S.T. Gibson, because An Education in Malice delighted me. I wasn't a fan of her first (A Dowry of Blood) - which is definitely down to my being incredibly picky about my vampires in annoying ways rather than anything on Gibson's part, my entire book club loved it - but an author redemption is always such a delight for me and I'm here to grab her next book.
Newest fictional crush: I have to pick one? Yikes yikes yikes. I usually have one per book unless I hated the book 😂 this only counts as "newest" because I just did a reread, but Evemer Hoskadem from A Taste of Gold and Iron is the devoted, competent type with some delightful hidden flavors and that did make my heart flutter.
Book that made you cry: Chain-Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah. This book is a masterpiece and also a front-runner for my favorite book of the year so far. It's dystopian and upsetting, and it executes and delivers on multiple levels with such a high level of skill, it's incredible. I was in awe of the prose, the themes, the characterization, and the way it was a scarily believable extension of where we're going in US politics.
Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received): The cover of Seven Devils by L.R. Lam and Elizabeth May is so neat and I always see something new looking at it. Also a beloved read this year.
Book that made you happy: Hamlet, Prince of Robots by M. Darusha Wehm. It's funny and smart and I love a retelling. This one does it perfectly.
What books do you need to read by the end of the year? Seven Mercies by L.R. Lam and Elizabeth May; Curse of the Divine by Kim Smejkal; The Blacksmith Queen by G.A. Aiken; Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake; Jade Fire Gold by June C.L. Tan; The Perfect Crimes of Marian Hayes by Cat Sebastian; 100 Queer Poems; Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin; Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros; One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston; Fine Print by Stjepan Sejic; The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon; The Power Broker by Robert Caro; and all the Kushiel's sequels I bought when they were on sale! There's more but that's enough for now. Thanks for reading, hope you got some fun new titles or enjoyed remembering good reads yourself!
Next up: periodic fanfic rec post!

September 2024 Reading Wrap Up
I read 2 books and got 4 kindle challenge achievements this month!
Now let's look at the breakdown :)
Reading Challenge Progress: I committed to reading 30 books in 2024 so currently I'm ahead by 2 books!
Top Genre read as at September 2024: Fantasy
My first read for September and Book #23 was Hamlet, Prince of Robots by M. Darusha Wehm Rating: 1.5/5
Tumblr media
The drama in this is quite entertaining when I don't take the IT/cybernetics phrases seriously. I feel as if the ending crept up on the author and their team because it all suddenly got wonky but I guess that happens sometimes with short books.
Hamlet Price of Robots helped me obtain the Gold Reader achievement in the 2024 Kindle Summer Challenge.
Tumblr media
Book #24 was Emergency Skin by N.K. Jemisin Rating: 3.5/5
Tumblr media
I needed a really short book to complete the Quartet Reader achievement because my time has not been my own this month. The Forward series has been on my radar for a while and I love me some N.K. Jemisin so I did the right thing and picked it up. This book does what it says on the tin. I liked that this was a different kind of first person POV than I normally see. Got the job done so it's a win for me
Emergency Skin helped me obtain the National eBook Day & Quartet Reader achievements in the 2024 Kindle Summer Challenge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have 4 more books to complete to get to my goal of 30 books this year and a whole quarter left. Time to get into those samples and prepare for next year.
On the topic samples; I earned (while reading samples) the 15th achievement of 15, aptly named Last Chapter, in the 2024 Kindle Summer Challenge.
Tumblr media
....
And that's it!
See you next month but in the meantime, what have you been reading?

I just read your post about Tamar, Tolya, and Mal (the fuck marry kill one) and you mentioned one of your favorite classic novels in it. I looked up the novel and I really want to read it now, but I'm also curious about what other classics you really like. Do you have any particular favorites or ones you highly recommend reading? I want some recommendations for books to read, and I'm fine with books that are dark or twisted in any way (as I know some classics can be).
So, I went through my list of recommended books. I've read some of those just once, but I'm putting only what I saw as the best of the best on it, after reading.
I'm not sure what should I consider classics, so I've decided to stop around 1950's.
Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov (and I cry big ugly tears, when writing anglicized version of his name), the love of my literary life:
A Hero of Our Time, Masquerade and Demon (The last one highly recommended to all Darklinas and Beauty and the Beast trope fans), although I'm not sure about the translations- I hate Russian into English
Erich Maria Ramerque:
All Quiet on the Western Front
Oscar Wilde:
The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Ballad of Reading Gaol, The Nightingale and the Rose (fairy tale)
Bram Stoker:
Dracula
J. R. R. Tolkien:
Roverandom, The Return of the King (The whole trilogy's great, but I liked the last book the most.)
Isaac Asimov:
I, Robot
Niccolò Machiavelli:
The Prince
Arthur Conan Doyle:
The Lost World
Viktor Dyk:
Krysař (auntie wiki says more: "English edition The Pied Piper, Karolinum Press 2018, ISBN 978-80-246-3440-1")
William Shakespeare:
Hamlet, Richard III
Karel Čapek:
Továrna na Absolutno
Francis Scott Fitzgerald:
Tender Is the Night

* ◟ : 〔 ANYA TAYLOR-JOY, NONBINARY + SHE / THEY 〕 OPAL FONTAINE , some say you’re a TWENTY SEVEN YEAR OLD lost soul among the neon lights. known for being both DRIVEN and CONFRONTATIONAL, one can’t help but think of MERMAIDS by FLORENCE + THE MACHINE when you walk by. are you still an ASSOCIATE / HEADLINE PERFORMER for THE BURNING GODS / OLD WORLD CASINO, even with your reputation as THE STAR? i think we’ll be seeing more of you and LIMBS THAT APPEAR TRANSLUCENT IN CERTAIN LIGHTING, A FAMILIAR FACE HIDDEN BEHIND A MASK, DRESSES MADE FROM BLOOD DIAMONDS, although we can’t help but think of OPHELIA (HAMLET) + AVA (EX-MACHINA) + LIZZY WIZZY (CYBERPUNK 2077) whenever we see you down these rainy streets.
FULL NAME: Opal Anette Fontaine NICKNAME(S): Opie, Anette AGE: Twenty-Seven GENDER: Nonbinary PRONOUNS: She/They BIRTHPLACE: Paris, France OCCUPATION: Headline Performer & Model GANG AFFILIATION: Associate of Burning Gods FC: Anya Taylor Joy
APPEARANCE
HAIR COLOUR: Dyed platinum blonde, originally dark brown. EYE COLOUR: Brown HEIGHT: 5”7 PIERCINGS?:Both ears. TATTOOS: None.
TRAITS
POSITIVE: Driven, Honest, Independent NEGATIVE: Confrontational, Secretive, Spoiled
BACKGROUND
TW gore, body mutilation, body issues, underage drinking, drugs,
She remembers very little of her past, only what they’ve been re-taught by others. Opal has been in the spotlight since childhood - there are magazines and ads that show them as a child, be it for clothing or toys or jewelry, an accessory for their mother, the actress Brigette Fontaine. That is obvious, something that can be physically seen and understood, and with it comes very vague memories; Opal can remember being painted for pageants, can remember their mother smacking her chubby baby thighs and encouraging them to spit-take the sweets they chewed. Who’s papa? There are photos around their grand parisian home, a stern looking man with a cold gaze, a man who prioritizes work over family and is disappointed that Opal is not a man. When he has a son with another woman, there is a complete disappearance of him from her life.
They didn’t stay in Paris because now she’s in New York, a singer in a casino. America held better studios, better make-up and record companies that Opal could be thrown at. A few minor roles, nothing serious, teenage years spent on sitcoms as the ditzy french best friend, accent thick and played for laughs in front of a live studio audience. There is always a sense of discomfort for Opal when they watch these, as if it wasn’t a happy time, makes her skin crawl. Something bad happened, she cannot recall what. Parties came next, underaged in nightclubs and bars just barely 18 when pictures started showing up in papers of her in various states. Boyfriends twice her age, men with children younger than her taking her out to dinner. There are articles online Opal has read, comments still available after all these years.
The accident was terrible. Still, nobody knows how it came about - did Brigette owe money? The former actress had been taking out loans to fuel an addiction to surgery and opioids. Or was it the absent father? Involved with arms dealings with Chinese triads and Saudi prince’s that had gone horribly wrong? Or was it Opal themselves? Drunk behind the wheel? Nobody knows, only the outcome is fact; that legally, Opal Fontaine should be dead. Two limbs crushed to a bloody pulp, spine cracked, blood spilling from her ears. And yet - she isn’t. Half of their body has become meshed with robotics, Opal a picture of modern cybernetic enhancements and what they can do. There was a price to it all, for stuff like that doesn’t come for free.
Brigette Fontaine dead, aged 58, overdose. All that debt is piled onto Opal who learns that their life was paid for with dirty money, an arrangement with a local gang Burning Gods. It was transferred to her, now a headline singer at Old World Casino, a shadow of who they were prior to the accident.
OTHER
Got a job at Old World Casino due to nepotism but is actually a good singer.
Hasn’t seen her younger half-brother before.
They have cybernetic enhancements, as their right leg and arm had to be completely replaced following the accident. Part of the spinal cord is also synthetic. These enhancements, particularly the one of their right hand, have allowed her to become oddly good with computers.
Though in debt to the Burning Gods, she also works off some of that via doing a little hacking which is why her associate status isn’t chosen but almost contractual.
Still models occasionally for magazines. Their most recent one is becoming the face of Hi-Chew in America.
Speaks French, English and Korean.
Legally dead for 30 minutes.
Sells feet pics online.
Kind of a huge bitch actually.
The accident was about 5 years ago.

It is genuinely so funny to be reading something with ISFO and know she's perceiving whole other layers of meaning and context that I am not perceiving
Anyway, Hamlet, Prince of Robots is 10/10 would recommend. Even if you're an idiot who hasn't seen or read the damn play. She's literally been in it and agrees.
