Fujifilm is Building a 100MP Medium Format Mirrorless Camera: Report

Fujifilm is serious about medium format mirrorless. In addition to its rumored September 25th announcement of the affordable GFX 50R, the company is also reportedly planning to reveal the upcoming GFX 100S, a 100-megapixel medium format mirrorless camera.

Fuji Rumors reports that Fujifilm will officially be announcing the development of the GFX 100S at the same time the GFX 50R is officially unveiled.

The sensor inside the GFX 100S is said to be Sony’s 44x33mm IMX461, the first medium format sensor that’s backside illuminated for greater low-light performance. It’s the same sensor that’s inside Phase One’s iXM 100MP industrial camera, Fuji Rumors writes.

Once launched, the Fujifilm GFX 100S would compete against cameras like the $48,000 Hasselblad H6D-400c MS and the $51,900 Phase One XF IQ4 150MP. And as you can probably tell from the price tags on these competitors, the GFX 100S will presumably not be an affordable camera that’s accessible to the masses.

Beyond revealing the existence of the in-development camera and perhaps showing off mockups and/or prototypes, Fujifilm isn’t expected to reveal the features and specs of the GFX 100S on September 25th.

Regardless, Fujifilm is now following up its $5,580 GFX 50S 50-megapixel medium format mirrorless camera with a smaller and cheaper one as well as well as one with double the resolution. 2018 is turning out to be quite an exciting year for the world of mirrorless cameras.

The 400 MP capture is pegged as one of the biggest features of the Hasselblad H6D- 400c MS camera. Mind you I said one of the features, the camera has more to it than what meets the eye, but more on the other feature later. They say the devils in the details and boy let me tell you the  H6D- 400c MS is that devil.

You might think who might require a 400 MP camera but according to Hasselblad, they are one of the leading camera manufacturers for organizations, institutions and museums worldwide and also professionals too if they can handle the very steep price tag that goes along with the Hasselblad H6D- 400c MS camera.

You might thing 400 MP capture is a bit of an overkill and to be honest for most of us yes, but for those who like the details and getting every color, every reflection and every glint of something on a surface in their pictures, then Hasselblad H6D- 400c MS camera is the one for them.

But even so, being brutally honest, first it was 50 MP then 100 MP and now 400 MP later it will be something else and then that will be the best camera out there, so when it comes to details, for now 400 MP takes the cake. A big emphasis on the now!

To take the 400 MP picture,  H6D- 400c MS camera uses a tech known as the sensor- shifting technology to bring together pictures that measure 23,000 by 17,400 pixels.

One of the other features that I mentioned earlier is the Sensor- Shifting technology in the Hasselblad H6D- 400c MS camera.

Basically what this tech does is that, the Hasselblad H6D- 400c MS camera takes about six shots at the same time. At each individual shot the sensor shifts one pixel at a time. The resulting six images are them stitched together to create the grand 400 MP picture.

Now for the limitations of using this feature on the Hasselblad H6D- 400c MS Camera:

Ok, looking at this feature, it is too good to be true and yes as expected there are limitations to using this feature on the Hasselblad H6D- 400c MS camera.

First limitation to use this feature is that the camera needs to be hooked up to a computer via USB, the second as you can well imagine is that the camera needs to be mounted on a tripod to take that monstrous 400MP pic, no shaky hands will do.

Ok so you don’t need that 400 MP image, no problem the Hasselblad H6D- 400c MS camera has got you covered. You can also take a 100 MP image in a single shot or using the same six shots per take tech but instead of six shots it’s four this time.

Now for the price, brace yourself. The Hasselblad H6D- 400c MS camera is available at a whopping $48,000.

Hasselblad H6D-400c Multi-Shot

Swedish high-end camera maker Hasselblad has unveiled an exceptional new model that can capture images in 400-Megapixel resolution. The Hasselblad H6D-400c MS will be available from March 2018 for the princely sum of $47,995.

The Hasselblad H6D-400c MS is billed as offering the highest resolution, most colour accurate medium format images currently available on the market.

To achieve this, the camera uses multishot technology to capture and combine six exposures. The first four involve moving the sensor by a pixel at a time to achieve real colour data. The sensor then returns to its starting position, before two further exposures are captured by shifting the sensor by half a pixel horizontally then half a pixel vertically. These six images are then combined to create a single 23,200 x 17,400-pixel Tiff-format image, weighing in at a colossal 2.4GB.

This technique is usually used in art reproduction and cultural industries for the documentation of paintings, sculptures and artworks. Here, it is made available to imaging professionals looking for extreme levels of detail and precision.

The H6D-400c also films Ultra-High Definition video in the Hasselblad RAW format.

Note that the camera’s CMOS sensor has an ISO sensitivity range of 64-12,800. Moreover, since the device needs large amounts of storage, the Hasselblad H6D-400c MS has two memory card slots.

While the price of this camera is as jaw-dropping as its 400MP images, anyone interested in taking the Hasselblad H6D-400c MS out for a spin can rent one for a few hundred dollars a day.

Otras dos exposiciones se realizan desplazando la captura solo medio pixel en horizontal y, después, medio pixel en vertical (vea el diagrama de 6 disparos a continuación). Estas 6 capturas se unen para presentar una sola imagen equivalente a 400MP entregado en formato TIFF de 16 bits (23200 x 17400 píxeles), para aquellos que buscan la mejor calidad de resolución de imagen.
