Jax from Digital Circus

A semi-topical character!

I don't want to speak for gooseworx's intentions, but overall, I think there was definitely a lot of intent that was carried along with Jax as she made him. Like I think she definitely tweaked Jax from the first draft to make him more of a smug bastard, but not with the plan to make a such a highly marketable to children character that is an anthropomorphic animal. Overall, though, intent has little to do with furbait rulings, and I only consider it when I think of the independent creators who aren't backed by decades-- if not centuries -- of character design over them.

To that end, when I talk of independent creators, I also like to give them the opportunity to respond, because -- well, this is a public post where anyone and everyone can see it.

In my opinion, Jax is furrybait. Objectively, his design follows the language of other furrybait characters in that his cartoon design is broadly more like a fantasy character than a human with minimal traits that represent an animal. He's not on the side of the spectrum of being a standard quadrupedal animal with a human voice, either. He's in the middle, where a lot of furrybait tends to reside. On top of that, his undeniable popularity through his actions, simplistic design, and anthropomorphism make him a strongly likely candidate for furbait. Part of what makes a character furbait is that they are replicable in a means that even amateur fanartists can contribute and share the joy of creation with the property at the center.

They’d play a mean game of poker! (And wipe everyone out of their money.) But also I genuinely think they’d work well together! I hadn’t considered them seriously until I read @/queenofbrooklyn’s fantastic fics (GO READ THEM RN. GO!!! I could talk about Libby’s fics Forever. Genuinely surviving the ride was formative in cementing how much I love this pairing and I revisit it whenever I can.) and ever since I’ve been hooked. I think they’re both very intelligent and opportunistic individuals that would find each other fascinating in their own right. There’s a softness in Sarah that spot can’t have as a figurehead and there’s a bluntness that spot conducts himself with which sarah admires for its necessity. Very good parallels/foils if written well! Also thank you for liking the racetrack piece hopefully more 92sies Art to come ^_^

eye doc anon here seems like you’ve summoned me again. w/o getting super technical; pupils dilate to let more light in so that we can see better in low light. so yes pupil dilation does affect how much of the iris is visible giving the appearance of a darker eye color. his heterochomia makes things very interesting. it’s all truly a trick of the light!

I know a lot of people think his eyes are actually hazel but the lack of actual green in the iris is how you can tell that they’re not!

tldr; yes Will is correct!

this is so satisfying to know!!! i've always wanted there to be logic and consistency about why his eyes appear to be blue or green or gray at different times. being able to link it up with pupil dilation makes sense to me in a very concrete way, and it will make it easier for me to write about it i think!!! thanks <33

@heartwilled sent... Ken stares down at the cans of Mad Bull Sakuya has just dropped in his lap. He's definitely feeling the effects of using his Persona so much in Tartarus tonight, but... "Is it really okay for me to have all this?" He says this, but...he is curious, and he probably could use the extra energy. At the very least, he doesn't want to be a burden on the others. Decision made, he cracks open the first can and drinks.

in retrospect, giving a ten year old several energy drinks is probably not a good idea. hell, the can even says children should not be drinking its contents. alas, you're running low on supplies ( some, you've noticed, have an effect on one's magical abilities in the dark hours, while others restore vitality ) and what is left is hard to come by. best to save those for emergencies, when the entire group needs the boost.

ken... will be fine. probably. you sure hope, because you can feel the third years' eyes boring into your back disapprovingly. the fights with the gatekeepers have been getting tougher and tougher. maybe ken will somehow burn through the excessive amounts of energy chugging way too many mad bulls will give him.

"probably not," you admit as you crack open a can of your own, "sorry. it's what i have on hand; i didn't get the chance to go shopping today... worst comes to worst, if you can't get to sleep after we get back, you can probably just say you're sick and stay home tomorrow."
