Steel Wool Hills, Kennington drive. January 9th, 2:04 AM. 

It was the dead of night, and all was still in the Fitzsimmons household. No sounds except for the sound of clock ticking in the kitchen downstairs, and its residents— Millie Fitzsimmons, Annabel Lee the cat, and Millie’s grandfather, Kenny— were all fast asleep. 

…only, that stillness was interrupted. 

An annoyed groaning sound came from Millie as she slowly sat up in her bed, surprisingly not disturbing Annabel Lee, having been awoken by an odd sound coming from downstairs. It sounded like… grinding? The teenager blinked some sleep out of her eyes and moved the eye mask she was wearing up onto her head; what could possibly be making that noise at this hour?

Against her better judgement, she decided to investigate. Putting on some socks and grabbing a flashlight, she crept downstairs as quietly as possible (so as not to wake up her grandpa) until she eventually reached the basement, where the noise was coming from-- though it had suspiciously stopped as she entered. 

She shone the flashlight around the pitch-black, soundproof room to see if there was anything that could be making the odd sound... but found nothing. It was all just the typical big comfortable chair, end table, TV, back rooms used for storage, et cetera.

She yawned. "Mhhhh... m'probably imagining things...."

Yes, she was probably just hearing things. And thus, with that in mind, she decided to just go back to sleep. So she turned to head back upstairs, but just as she did....
