Hey are you willing to BLAST Kat Bolstad’s page on the AUT website? She’s the researcher who voiced over the colossal squid video and it’s making me so mad that people’s hatred of generative AI is so strong that they’re trying to crowd out an incredible cephalopod researcher who frankly speaks with a similar cadence to David Attenborough (those documentary skills!!!) especially during a time where we need to encourage women in STEM. i think the thing is that most of the students who are using ai to write essays for them are probably not the same ones who could speedrun an essay in a day. there are students for whom leaving an essay to the last minute means they will fail and those are probably the ones using ai. so when people on here say well before chatgpt we all used to cram essays at the last minute— yeah, and some people failed. and they have what seems like an easy out now. if i had a bunch of maths questions due in high school and one day to do it then yeah i can see being tempted by ai. i would hope my principles would stop me from using it but i can see how it happens. students do hold some accountability for it but the greater problem isn't really students it's the multitude of different pressures and problems that all intersect and make high school and tertiary education hell especially since a lot of us missed out on crucial years of education due to the pandemic

As cameras becomes more normalized (Sarah Bernhardt encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use cameras because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by manufacturing companies. I paint not because I want a painting but because I love the process of painting. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.

if i have to explain to you that using a camera to take a picture is not the same as using generative ai to generate an image then you are a fucking moron.

you can use http://haveibeentrained.com to search for your images and find out if your work has been used for AI.

In there, you can choose to opt out, but AI companies are not obligated to respect it so it isn't too much of a protection unfortunately 😭

Also be aware that they are associated with AI and they did try to badmouth glaze so artists wouldn't protect themselves; which's very bad for a company that allegedly are on the side of the artists.

Also!!! There's a new type of AI that I was just made aware of last week, Copainter.

It completes unfinished work, which can be used for 'stealing and claiming it theirs', so put a cat picture in the next wips you post as well!

Playing whack a mole with art thieves on Redbubble. Seems a bunch of my Locked Tomb designs have been scraped which is… cool.

As a soft reminder for consumers- if you’re buying from a shop like Redbubble/Teepublic etc it’s a good idea to look at the shops overall portfolio. If it’s all over the place it’s probably stolen art, it only takes a little digging to find the original artist to make sure they’re the ones getting paid for their work.
