“My parents had always told us (my sister and I) that we were going to go to college. My parents hadn't had the support of going to college, so they wanted to support me in my journey from early childhood. I use being a first gen as motivation, because I want to be able to share my experiences with my future children. I want to be able to give them guidance and reassurance, because navigating college almost on your own is discouraging and difficult.” — Victoria Herrschaft ’25 🎓🎉🐾 #CelebrateFirstGen #HuskyPride #BloomOnward #HeyHOWLs #PreMed #ChildLife #biology (at Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck1GdZ0Ob6d/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

“Bloomsburg is hands down the best teaching school you could ask for. They get you in the classroom often and give you experience right away. Teaching is a work of the heart, and all of BU’s professors teach you how to be the best social-emotional educators you can be in the real world by giving you real-life examples. Without Bloomsburg, I would not be the teacher I am today, which I will be forever grateful for.” 🎉🎓🐾 #BUClass2022 #HuskyNation #ImAHusky #MidLevelEducation #SocialStudies #SpecialEducation #TourGuide #HuskyAmbassador #HeyHOWLs #BestBuddies #Husky4Life #BloomOnward (at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/CdvrxRpLK8z/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

“In these past four years Bloomsburg has allowed me to become independent, self-efficient and hard working. BU has also taught me the importance of being resilient and how important that will be to my future career as well. The lasting impression Bloom has had on me would be the confidence and independence it gave me. Coming in as a freshman, I was very nervous and relied on my family and friends for help. After going through these four years Bloomsburg has prepared me for the real world.” 💛🎓🐾 #BUClass2022 #HuskyNation #ImAHusky #DeafEducation #EarlyChildhood #HeyHOWLs #TourGuide #Husky4Life #BloomOnward (at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/CdkHqfqML11/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

“Bloomsburg was the only school I applied to. When I toured my senior year of high school, I fell in love with the campus, the people, and everything it had to offer. Four years later, I’ve felt at home and could never picture myself anywhere else. I’ve grown so much compared to my first day as a freshman. I’m very thankful to have grown into a strong and confident woman. I’ve made some lifelong friends here I’ll miss dearly. You do truly meet your people in college, and I’m grateful for every single person who’s come into my life at Bloomsburg.” 💛🎓🐾 #BUClass2022 #HuskyNation #ImAHusky #DeafEducation #EarlyChildhood #HeyHOWLs #ClubSoccer #Husky4Life #BloomOnward (at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cdj_0XVMGA9/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

“I'm going to miss all of the little moments here. From spending time on campus in the fall to the late nights laughing in the lab over failed projects, every moment here will be remembered fondly. Getting to live so close to the best people I've ever met has been the greatest experience of my life. I’ll miss all of the clubs and organizations that accepted me as family, and all of the faculty and staff that welcomed me and worked with me to create the best version of myself.” 💛🎓🐾 #BUClass2021 #HuskyNation #ImAHusky #EET #engineering #ClubLacrosse #HeyHOWLs #honors #Husky4Life #BloomOnward (at Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXTxUCnr7bY/?utm_medium=tumblr

I’m a Husky
As a graduating senior, Kayla Barnett is a criminal justice major from Stroudsburg who was an active member of the Gospel Choir, IMPACT, Husky Ambassadors and served as a Husky Orientation Workshop Leader.
“When I visited Bloomsburg in the Spring when everything was in full bloom, there were so many people on the quad doing different activities and I immediately knew this is where I wanted to be. There were such good vibes and I accepted Bloomsburg as my home that day and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.”
"I chose criminal justice because I knew I always wanted to do something to make an impact. With this major, there are so many opportunities to make a change. At Bloomsburg I truly found myself and I learned a lot about myself as well. I learned that I truly love people and Bloomsburg helped me to push myself to be social and now I am truly a social butterfly. Bloom prepared me for success by challenging me and also by having many opportunities to learn about my field. There are so many resources on campus that helped me and many professors and staff.”
“Reflecting on my time here at Bloom I can boldly say I am not the same person I was. My growth took me to new heights in self-confidence, self-love, and determination. I never knew that I could learn so much within 4 years and not only subject based learning but I learned how to live life to the fullest and to make every single moment count. A simple hello or a small conversation can impact someone in a small way and I will never take these things for granted.”
“At the beginning of the pandemic being home and learning through a screen, everything had me feeling really down. I faced many battles and just survived the classes, exams and everything that came with it. Once the campus opened up I decided to come back and make the best of it. I was not going to let the pandemic take away my last moment as a student here at Bloom. Even though the pandemic has brought much pain and loss I think we can all agree that this has changed us in positive ways as well. I am so proud of the class of 2021 because we really pushed through no matter what was thrown at us. I feel closer to my peers than ever before and I know we are going to make a huge impact on the world and we for sure left our mark here at Bloomsburg University.”
“My experience here at Bloom in the past two years has pushed me to become very resilient. Taking this into the real world I know that no matter what is thrown my way I will overcome and do my best. I will always remain positive and spread positivity no matter the circumstances. Being able to recognize my weaknesses and flaws is a huge advantage for me because I know that is something I wasn't always capable of. With this experience, I was able to take a step back and process that no one is perfect but it takes hard work and resilience to make your mark and push your limits.”
“Bloom has been my home away from home for the last 4 years. I will miss everything even the small things like Chip saying hello every time I entered commons and tempting me to get those commons cookies that are near and dear to my heart and stomach, the small conversations with the lovely workers at java city, and the free t-shirts and Rita's. I will miss absolutely everything about Bloomsburg but most of all I will miss the family and friends I've made here on campus. There is no doubt in my mind that the friends I've made here will be my forever friends. I refer to them as my chosen family because it is the perfect way to describe my love for them. I will miss everyone and everything about Bloomsburg and it will always be my home away from home.”

I’m a Husky
As a graduating senior, Cassidy Larkin is an early childhood/special education dual major from Whitehall with a focus in language arts. She was an active member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and served as a Husky Orientation Workshop Leader.
“I chose education, because I wanted to make a difference in young children's lives,” Larkin says. “I wanted to be an advocate for some students who might not have that voice for them. I wanted to do more than just teach and be someone for these students to rely on.”
“I’ve always had a passion for leadership. I’ve always been a leader, rather than a follower throughout most of my life and wanted to continue that in my undergraduate education at Bloomsburg through my clubs and organizations.”
Bloomsburg's program of education has successfully gotten me ready for a teaching position.
“I’ve been prepared through observations, practicum experience, and student teaching,” Larkin says. “I’ve seen many different environments of teaching, all different than the next. All environments have inspired me to become the best educator I can, all thanks to Bloomsburg.”
“The first day of school in the fall of 2017, I strutted around campus, confused, dazed, but of course I didn't want to make that known to the students passing by. I look back on this memory and clearly remember walking to Foundations of Writing in Bakeless, and having absolutely no idea where I was going. I ran into a face I’ll always remember and that was my professor at the time, Dr. Stephen Whitworth. He may not realize how my little interaction meant the first day of my college experience to me. I’ve changed tremendously from that first day of school. I was unsettled, nervous, unexcited, and trembling. Now, I’m excited, motivated, proud, and engaged in my future at hand.”
“BU has left the impression on me that I can do anything I set my mind to while leaving long-lasting real-world relationships and experiences.”
“College graduation is anticipated to be the journey coming to an end of adolescences. Now it's our time as the Class of 2021 to go onto the job market, to find that perfect position suited just for us. This pandemic has shaped me into the person I am. Never could I’ve imagined I’d be graduating with the pandemic still occurring or becoming vaccinated for a virus that has killed millions. Unique doesn't begin to describe my experience. This experience is one I believe has affected more than others, but overall has impacted the Class of 2021. We saw our semesters go virtual, and we saw semesters be in-person. The semesters continued along with the pandemic, and now that our time has come, it feels surreal. I do believe if this pandemic wasn't occurring, our reality would feel more real. It went by fast, but now the time has come.”
“At the face of the pandemic, going into our second semesters as juniors, the Class of 2021 had immediately gained an added. Class of 2020, my heart goes to you for a virtual graduation, which is something I dreaded going into my senior year with that throughout occurring. Although this resiliency has been built up through the pandemic, we all are experiencing, if anything, this built-up resilience we’ve been given has brought us to be tougher individuals mentally and emotionally. I believe those who are graduating will have a step ahead of others for the bounce back of resilience we’ll give back to our community. We were strong through it, now the bounce back is coming just in time for us out into the real world. Personally, I’m ready for the world to give me the best times to come. My added resilience has gotten me ready for what life is going to bring me, through handling pressures and deadlines I may need to meet.”
“Bloomsburg University has brought people in my life I never thought I would've met. It’s cliche when asked what you’ll miss most to say … the people, but I wouldn't be who I am without the people I’ve met here. The adventures, the study dates, the events, nothing would've made me … without this.”
“The people at Bloomsburg are people I can see myself with at years to come, traveling with, living with, and pursuing careers with. The memories made here with these students have brought me everything I would've wanted in a college experience, plus a little more. They say college will be the best four years of your life, but I couldn't have made it the best four years without these people beside me.”
