rustic look, bohemian-inspired gypsy hippie style, with colorful mosaic stairs winding upwards. Stained glass windows cast playful light on lush greenery and decorative clay pots. Lanterns hang softly illuminating the stones beneath, creating a magical atmosphere. Imagine a scene where mythical creatures might quietly observe the beauty of this hidden oasis.

I know I mostly post my watercolor art, but as many creative people I find I have to engage in multiple outlets of creativity. While I do stain glass work, I did not create the stained glass here. More about that in a moment but, I built the double frame to hold the glass securely, and also has a sting of LED lights which wrap all the way around on either side of the glass so it can be illuminated at night/holidays/mood, etc. I thought I would share this as it was one of the more nerve wracking projects I have taken on the glass is almost 150 years old! More about the history of the window and more pictures below.
If the info I have been given is correct, this glass was commissioned in 1876-77 for the First Presbyterian Church building in Seattle, so we are approaching 150 years old. It is really pretty in person and has several fancy beveled pieces of glass. One of the red glass pieces is jeweled and wondering if it was made maybe hand beveled considering when it was made? I am so curious. Perhaps someone can add if they know more about glass making at the time.
Anyway, in the 60's My Uncle was an architect for one of the later remodels/razing and was gifted this glass when they were removed. While it was once hung in my aunt and uncles home about 40ish years ago, it has sat in storage for the past 15-20 years or so. It only had a modest storage frame which unfortunately did damage two small glass pieces due to the basic nature of the frame. However it is in remarkable condition for its age and how it had been stored.
When my uncle passed, my aunt sold their house of 40+ years and downsized to a condo. The glass then came to live with me in storage with the notion we would someday help frame it. That way she could at least hang it as a memento of her late husband and appreciate it for the art it is.
Fast forward to this year, I finally came up with a plan which would not only meet her expectations, but would do my uncle proud (he was very particular), and thus I far exceed her expectations.
In addition to the lights, I created a secret compartment that slides up to address all the electronic/power bits, and when lowered is invisible. We were able to package it up properly for moving and got it installed in her house over the father's day weekend. Needless to say she was very very happy and is still in shock that it lights up, etc.
