It was strange to find a crystal ball among the vine-smothered ruins, but there it was dim and lifeless atop a thin, spiraling pedestal of verdigris​ and tarnished silver. Held in place by a four-fingered claw, surely this valuable treasure was trapped, you suspected. However, a close examination should render any such devices inert. Spindly legs ending on sharp points popped out the sides as you approached. The construct skittered back and forth unsure, the crystal ball rotating toward you as a wither, yellow eye blazed to life in its depths. Roll for initiative.

Built by long-dead arcanists, Crystal Mauls entrapped the soul of a condemned prisoner in a crystal sphere. At the time, the belief was they could repay their debt to society in the form of a servitor designed for demolition. As such, the constructs can conjure a bolt of pure necrotic energy ideal for clearing unwanted plant growth, ruining objects, and slaying the unsettled masses as the need arises. However, the souls within did not stay quiet. While they are hardly sentient any longer, even the smallest crack to the sphere damages the personality within. This can lead to an indiscriminate use of a crystal maul's destructive abilities, a malicious streak to hunt others, or in some rare cases birth a construct dedicated to crafting the world into something beautiful… as an all but mindless machine might see it.

👾 De chillidos a cafés: mi abril entre videojuegos

🎮✨ Un abril lleno de emociones: Limbo, Misao, Coffee Talk y más. ¿Qué juegos has completado tú este mes? ¡Te leo! 🌸👾

¡Hola a todos! 🌸

Abril aún no ha terminado, pero ya he tenido la oportunidad de sumergirme en varias historias que me han dejado muy buenas sensaciones. Este mes tenía ganas de experimentar, de probar cosas diferentes, y ha sido una experiencia realmente enriquecedora. A veces apetece perderse en otros mundos, desconectar un poco del día a día y simplemente dejarse llevar por una buena historia, ¿verdad?

Hoy quiero compartir con vosotros no solo qué juegos me he pasado, sino también cómo me hicieron sentir, qué momentos me marcaron y si os los recomendaría. Porque los videojuegos no son solo entretenimiento: son emociones, recuerdos, pequeños refugios en forma de aventuras.

Así que... ¡poneos cómodos, tomad un café o una bebida calentita, y acompáñadme en este pequeño viaje de abril! 🎮✨

🌑 Limbo

Limbo, desarrollado por Playdead, es un título que muchos consideran ya un clásico dentro de los juegos independientes. Es una experiencia de plataformas y puzles minimalista, donde el uso del blanco y negro, las sombras y el sonido ambiental consiguen transmitir una atmósfera inquietante sin necesidad de palabras.

En Limbo controlamos a un niño que despierta en medio de un bosque oscuro y hostil, enfrentándose a múltiples peligros en busca de su hermana desaparecida.

¿Qué me ha parecido? Sí, me ha gustado. La ambientación está increíblemente lograda: te sientes pequeño y vulnerable todo el tiempo. Eso sí, aunque lo disfruté, no ha terminado de convertirse en uno de mis grandes favoritos. Me pareció ideal para una tarde tonta en la que quieres jugar a algo corto pero impactante, pero personalmente, no me dejó tanta huella emocional como otros títulos que he jugado este año. Aun así, si no lo habéis probado, lo recomiendo mucho, sobre todo si os gustan los juegos que cuentan historias de forma sutil y simbólica. 🌑

🔪 Misao: Definitive Edition

Misao: Definitive Edition, creado por Sen y publicado por Playism, es uno de esos juegos que ya forman parte de mi rincón personal de favoritos del terror indie. Es una aventura de terror escolar en la que, tras la desaparición de Misao, una serie de sucesos sobrenaturales atrapan a nuestros protagonistas dentro del instituto.

🖥️ Disponible en: PC (Steam). (Dato curioso: no incluye doblaje al japonés.)

¿Qué sentí volviendo a jugarlo? Lo he turboflipado, como siempre. Misao es ese juego al que recurro cuando quiero revivir una historia que sé que no me fallará: atrapa desde el minuto uno y no te suelta hasta los créditos. Además, su duración es perfecta para una tarde en la que te apetece una buena historia intensa sin necesidad de invertir muchísimas horas.

Algo que siempre me gusta mencionar es que Misao tiene una conexión interesante con Mad Father (otro juegazo de terror). No os quiero spoilear, pero en la descripción de este post voy a dejar links a vídeos que explican la relación entre ambos juegos. ¡Merece mucho la pena conocerla! 🖤

☕ Coffee Talk

Coffee Talk, de Toge Productions, es una de esas pequeñas joyas que se te quedan en el corazón. En este juego, gestionamos una cafetería nocturna en un Seattle alternativo, donde humanos, elfos, orcos y otras criaturas fantásticas se reúnen para compartir sus problemas y sueños mientras disfrutan de una buena taza de café.

Mi experiencia: Lo amo, lo putísimo amo. Era justo lo que necesitaba: una historia tranquila, humana, llena de momentos tiernos, reflexivos y reconfortantes. La música lo envuelve todo con un toque lo-fi increíblemente acogedor. Fue como un abrazo para el alma. De verdad, si tenéis días en los que sentís que el mundo pesa demasiado, Coffee Talk es como un refugio cálido donde todo está bien por un ratito. ☕

☕ Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly

Y claro, después de terminar el primero, no pude evitar lanzarme de cabeza a Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly. Esta segunda parte amplía todo lo bueno del primer juego: nuevos personajes, nuevas historias, nuevas recetas (¡con hibisco y flor de mariposa azul!) y, sobre todo, aún más momentos llenos de alma.

¿Qué me transmitió? Me ha encantado de principio a fin. Me lo he pasado como una cría pequeña, disfrutando de cada detalle, cada conversación, cada sorbo de historia. Hubo momentos que me emocionaron muchísimo, en los que me sorprendí chillando (y no poco 😂). Es uno de esos juegos que te hace reír, reflexionar y abrazar cada pequeño momento de la vida cotidiana.

De verdad, si os gustó el primero, este segundo es todavía más especial. 💜

Este mes ha sido muy bonito en lo que a videojuegos se refiere. Cada historia, cada personaje y cada atmósfera me han acompañado en diferentes momentos, dándome justo lo que necesitaba: emoción, ternura, misterio o simplemente paz.

Estoy muy agradecida de haber podido vivir estas aventuras, y estoy deseando saber qué nuevos mundos me esperan en lo que queda de año.

As an experiment I broke out out all the Cthulhu-ish rpgs into their own list. The non-Lovecraftian rpgs have their own list. This was a year overflowing with them. They would continue to be strong on the later horror lists, but this was in several ways a high tide moment.

Horned Horror

Only the skull of this undead abomination comes from a corpse. From the neck down, the horned horror’s mockery of a skeleton of deadwood branches. Its joints are crafted from congealed blood honey, its horns are sharp spikes of petrified honeycomb pierced through the cranium. Undying hatred burns within its wide, hollow eye sockets with such intensity it withers bravery and greenery alike.
