House Connington ❖❖❖ We Guard Our Fortunes
The sovereigns of Griffin’s Roost, the Conningtons are a noble, powerful, rich and influential family from the Stormlands. House Connington is said to have lands so breathtaking, none can compare in throughout Stormlands, and have even made those who exalt the beauty of The Reach most firmly concede its charm is near peerless. The current lord of Griffin’s Roost is well respected amongst his peers, though, the situation in their home and lands regarding the inheritance is somewhat delicate due to the sudden passing during a hunting accident of the former heir. The duty that now falls on the shoulders of his son at times overwhelming for a thirteen year old boy and his Lady-Mother already entrenched in her own tumultuous political machinations to bear.
A Song of Golden Fire and Black Blood is especially seeking Lady Daisy Connington, as well as the heir to their House, Lucas Connington, the Lady of Griffon's Roost, Lucinda Connington, and her younger son, Ser Galladon Connington.
Learn more about House Connington HERE, send us a raven with any questions and when you're ready to apply, join our Discord to chat with our players who want to see more from House Connington, and reach out to our only active member of their house so far, Lady Daisy's younger child and only daughter, Lady Jocelyn "Jocie" Connington (Favi) on @little-griffin-jocie-connington

Jon Connington & Rhaegar Targaryen
He was so young then, and I was younger. Boys, the both of us.
"Your father's lands are beautiful," Prince Rhaegar had said, standing right where Jon was standing now. And the boy he'd been had replied, "One day they will all be mine." As if that could impress a prince who was heir to the entire realm, from the Arbor to the Wall.

Ser Jon Connington, Exiled Lord of Griffin's Roost
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Time enough to cross the sea, to see Griffin's Roost again. To end the Usurper's line for good and all, and put Rhaegar's son upon the Iron Throne. Then Lord Jon Connington could die content."
My third take on JonCon now, I'm pretty sure that's as many minis as he has chapters! This time when he was younger, at the height of his Golden Company career, right before he left to be a full-time adoptive dad drank himself to death in Lys.
This was a nameless Golden Company sculpt, but the face very much shouted JonCon to me. I considered changing the shield to give him his Griffins, but I do like that stylised swirly shield that came on the mini. I love the detail of GC members keeping their wealth in gold arm rings, of course that would be hard to show with full golden plate mail, so I portrayed the "wearing their wealth" by giving them lots of jewelled necklaces.

Rhaegar's Friend, Elia's Foe
I don't usually give much authority to information outside of the core five books (and I include SSM in that, unfortunately, 'cause citations without peer-review aren't much use). I've plenty of time for theories and headcanons, but given how changeable Martin is I treat everything in TWoIaF, F&B, and so on as "Schrödinger Canon".
However, I will completely accept the words of House Connington that appeared on a single German cover of A Dance With Dragons! Because, to me, they seem so perfect.
Ein Grimmiger Feind, Ein Treuer Freund.
You can go a few ways with it, but as a lover of alliteration, my take is "A Fearsome Foe, A Faithful Friend", because...
They give House Connington the rare honour of having supportive, co-operative words, not really found outside of Stokeworth's "Proud To Be Faithful".
They suit Ronnet, a man defined by both his volatile anger and his unquestioning (but frequently questioned) loyalty.
They also imply some mercuriality, with a change from friend to foe necessitating a switch from one extreme to the other. That suits Ronnet, I feel, whose face-value assessment of Brienne and impulsive choice to be cruel to his almost-betrothed indicates someone without much care for middle ground. And I'd say that's demonstrated further by his interaction with Jaime, committing to his insults even after getting a golden backhand.
But most importantly, I feel they're appropriate for Jon. The words suit a man who would become Hand for the Mad King because of his love for Rhaegar, a man who would raise a dead man's son out of love for the father, and a man who would - out of that same love - so cruelly criticise that dead man's dead wife for being "weak" and "unworthy" of him. Seriously, Jon, what the fuck?

Part 2 of introducing side characters from my fanfic today with the Connington cousins: sisters Margaret and Gilliane and cousins Alyce and Jessamyn! (Funfact: Dyana and Sara Costayne are also cousins of the Connington girls, all of them are the daughters of the four sons of old lord Alvin Connington)

I can see why she fought Ronnet Connington.
Tumblr media
Finally the doors opened, and her betrothed strode into her father's hall. She tried to greet him as she had been instructed, only to have blood come pouring from her mouth. She had bitten her tongue off as she waited.
She spat it at the young knight's feet, and saw the disgust on his face. "Brienne the Beauty," he said in a mocking tone. "I have seen sows more beautiful than you." He tossed the rose in her face.
As he walked away, the griffins on his cloak rippled and blurred and changed to lions. Jaime! she wanted to cry. Jaime, come back for me! But her tongue lay on the floor by the rose, drowned in blood.

“Yet when the jousting began, the day belonged to Rhaegar Targaryen. The crown prince wore the armor he would die in: gleaming black plate with the three-headed dragon of his House wrought in rubies on the breast. A plume of scarlet silk streamed behind him when he rode, and it seemed no lance could touch him. Brandon fell to him…” —A Game of Thrones

Character Bio Below The Cut
Tumblr media
The only surviving sibling of Lord Jasper Wylde, widow to the previous heir to House Connington and mother to the current heir, Daisy is 32, and has served as a Lady-in-Waiting in the new Queen Rhaenyra's retinue for the past eight years. Daisy was married to Robin Connington, the heir to House Connington in a happy rarity of the pair being politically well matched and deeply in love and they had two children together, Lucas and Jocelyn. Only a year after her marriage, however, Daisy’s elder sister died in childbirth, causing Daisy a large amount of grief and empathy for women who have to fight for their lives in the birthing bed. Because of this, when Daisy heard the rumors many were whispering about her older brother and the negative health effects multiple births were having on his second wife Lady Ysabel, she was desperate to intervene. Robin promised to speak with her brother on her behalf and confronted the other lord. Only a short time later, Robin died in an apparent hunting accident and ever since, Daisy has blamed Jasper for her husband’s death, a suspicion Jasper has done little to assuage. After her husband’s death, Daisy entered Rhaenyra’s service to receive the then-Princess Hand's, now Queen's, protection and ever since, has spent her days as a close confidante of Rhaenyra's and raising her two children alongside Her Grace's own. Around The Court, Daisy is known as “The Light in the Storm” for her bright personality that persists in spite of all the loss she has faced Suggested faceclaim: Milla Jovovich in The Three Musketeers

The Queens Who Never Were 〚17 / 17〛
╰┈➤ ❝ Princess Elia was a good woman, Your Grace. She was kind and clever, with a gentle heart and a sweet wit. I know the prince was very fond of her. ❞
Elia Martell was born to the ruling Princess of Dorne a month premature, with her family not expecting her to survive infancy. While her health remained fragile for the rest of her life, she survived nonetheless, and as a child was very close to her little brother Oberyn. She was said to be a delicate beauty, with a kind heart, gentle disposition and sweet-natured wit that made her beloved of her family and people.
When she came of age, her mother took her on a tour of the realm to find a suitable husband. Those considered included Baelor Hightower, a Lord of House Dayne, Jaime and Tyrion Lannister. Eventually, she was wed to Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, heir to the throne; potentially a slight to the proud Tywin Lannister by both the Targaryens and Martells, as he had rejected Oberyn's suit to Cersei stating that she was meant for Rhaegar.
Elia seems to have had a warm relationship with the Queen Rhaella, as well as a courteous and contented if not amorous marriage to Rhaegar. Giving birth to their two children, Rhaenys and Aegon, left her long-bedridden and almost dead, and this seems to have alienated Rhaegar as it was soon after Aegon's birth that he began to pursue Lyanna Stark.
When Robert's Rebellion began, Aerys held Elia and her children at King's Landing as nye-on hostages, using them to coerce the support of the Martells and, hypothetically, Rhaegar. As he died and Lannister forces stormed the Keep, Amory Lorch and Gregor Clegane brutally murdered Rhaenys and Aegon in front of Elia. Gregor then r***d Elia and murdered her. Despite the circumstances of her death being shrouded in rumour, House Martell knew the truth, and never forgave House Lannister.
It may be the case that Aegon escaped his mother's murder, as Young Griff claims to be him. However, it is notable that only does he never mention the horrific death of his mother and sister, but his caretaker, Jon Connington, also seems to consider Elia with active disdain. Should he truly be Aegon, and win the Iron Throne, Elia would be the second Martell to have a son rule Westeros.
