Can the US really enforce a global AI chip ban?
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/can-the-us-really-enforce-a-global-ai-chip-ban/
Can the US really enforce a global AI chip ban?
When Huawei shocked the global tech industry with its Mate 60 Pro smartphone featuring an advanced 7-nanometer chip despite sweeping US technology restrictions, it demonstrated that innovation finds a way even under the heaviest sanctions. The US response was swift and predictable: tighter export controls and expanded restrictions.
Now, with reports suggesting Huawei’s Ascend AI chips are approaching Nvidia-level performance—though the Chinese company remains characteristically silent about these developments—America has preemptively escalated its semiconductor war to global proportions.
The Trump administration’s declaration that using Huawei’s Ascend chips “anywhere in the world” violates US export controls reveals more than policy enforcement—it exposes a fundamental fear that American technological dominance may no longer be guaranteed through restrictions alone.
This global AI chip ban emerged on May 14, 2025, when President Donald Trump’s administration rescinded the Biden-era AI Diffusion Rule without revealing details of a replacement policy.
Instead, the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) announced guidance to “strengthen export controls for overseas AI chips,” specifically targeting Huawei’s Ascend processors.
The new guidelines warn of “enforcement actions” including imprisonment and fines for any global business found using these Chinese-developed chips—a fundamental departure from traditional export controls, which typically govern what leaves a country’s borders, not what happens entirely outside them.
The scope of America’s tech authority
The South China Morning Post reports that these new guidelines explicitly single out Huawei’s Ascend chips after scrapping the Biden administration’s country-tiered “AI diffusion” rule. But the implications of this global AI chip ban extend far beyond bilateral US-China tensions.
By asserting jurisdiction over global technology choices, America essentially demands that sovereign nations and independent businesses worldwide comply with its domestic policy preferences.
This extraterritorial approach raises fundamental questions about national sovereignty and international trade. Should a Brazilian AI startup be prevented from using the most cost-effective chip solution simply because those chips are manufactured by a Chinese company?
Should European research institutions abandon promising collaborations because they involve hardware Washington deems unacceptable?
According to Financial Times reporting, BIS stated that Huawei’s Ascend 910B, 910C, and 910D were all subject to the regulations as they were likely “designed with certain US software or technology or produced with semiconductor manufacturing equipment that is the direct product of certain US-origin software or technology, or both.”
Industry resistance to universal controls
Even within the United States, the chipmaking sector expresses alarm about Washington’s semiconductor policies. The aggressive expansion of export controls creates uncertainty beyond Chinese companies, affecting global supply chains and innovation partnerships built over decades.
“Washington’s new guidelines are essentially forcing global tech firms to pick a side – Chinese or US hardware – which will further deepen the tech divide between the world’s two largest economies,” analysts note. This forced binary choice ignores the nuanced reality of modern technology development, where innovation emerges from diverse, international collaborations.
The economic implications prove staggering. Recent analysis indicates Huawei’s Ascend 910B AI chip delivers 80% of Nvidia A100’s efficiency when training large language models, though “in some other tests, Ascend chips can beat the A100 by 20%.”
By blocking access to competitive alternatives, this global AI chip ban may inadvertently stifle innovation and maintain artificial market monopolies.
The innovation paradox
Perhaps most ironically, policies intended to maintain American technological leadership may undermine it. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang acknowledged earlier this month that Huawei was “one of the most formidable technology companies in the world,” noting that China was “not behind” in AI development.
Attempting to isolate such capabilities through global restrictions may accelerate the development of parallel technology ecosystems, ultimately reducing American influence rather than preserving it.
The secrecy surrounding Huawei’s Ascend chips—with the company keeping “details of its AI chips close to its chest, with only public information coming from third-party teardown reports”—has intensified with US sanctions.
Following escalating restrictions, Huawei stopped officially disclosing information about the series, including release dates, production schedules, and fabrication technologies. The chips specified in current US restrictions, including the Ascend 910C and 910D, haven’t even been officially confirmed by Huawei.
Geopolitical ramifications
In a South China Morning Post’s report, Chim Lee, a senior analyst at the Economist Intelligence Unit, warns that “if the guidance is enforced strictly, it is likely to provoke retaliation from China” and could become “a negotiating point in ongoing trade talks between Washington and Beijing.”
This assessment underscores the counterproductive nature of aggressive unilateral action in an interconnected global economy.
The semiconductor industry thrives on international collaboration, shared research, and open competition. Policies that fragment this ecosystem serve no one’s long-term interests—including America’s.
As the global community grapples with challenges from climate change to healthcare innovation, artificial barriers preventing the best minds from accessing optimal tools ultimately harm human progress.
Beyond binary choices
The question isn’t whether nations should protect strategic interests—they should and must. But when export controls extend “anywhere in the world,” we cross from legitimate national security policy into technological authoritarianism. The global technology community deserves frameworks that balance security concerns with innovation imperatives.
This global AI chip ban risks accelerating the technological fragmentation it seeks to prevent. History suggests markets divided by political decree often spawn parallel innovation ecosystems that compete more effectively than those operating under artificial constraints.
Rather than extending controls globally, a strategic approach would focus on out-innovating competitors through superior technology and international partnerships. The current path toward technological bifurcation serves neither American interests nor global innovation—it simply creates a more fragmented, less efficient world where artificial barriers replace natural competition.
The semiconductor industry’s future depends on finding sustainable solutions that address legitimate security concerns without dismantling the collaborative networks that drive technological advancement. As this global AI chip ban takes effect, the world watches to see whether innovation will flourish through competition or fragment through control.

Industry trend|Positioning speed increased by 4 times! Google is about to introduce UWB
Recently, Google announced that its Android "Find My Device" network will usher in important improvements, saying that its speed is four times faster than before. According to 9to5Google, this update not only includes increased speed, but also plans to introduce ultra-wideband (UWB) technology.
Tumblr media
Google has not yet confirmed the specific launch date of UWB, but the industry believes that the feature may be highlighted at the 2025 Google I/O Developer Conference scheduled for May 20.
Positioning speed is about four times faster
Google made a major upgrade to Android's "Find My Device" network last year, improving support for third-party trackers and offline location access.
Earlier this month, the Android Authority team found references to the precise location tracking protocol in the latest Android version of the "Find My Device" application, which also exists in all products of Apple AirTag and Google Pixel 9 Pro.
Android product manager Angela Hsiao said in an interview with The Verge that UWB technology will soon be added to the "Find My Device" feature. UWB will allow users to track lost devices more accurately, change the way users interact with their devices, and make retrieval not only faster but also more intuitive.
Hsiao added that Google's internal testing shows that the network locates items about four times faster than when the major upgrade was launched in 2024. Although it has not yet completely caught up with Apple, the technology is continuing to improve.
Tumblr media
The Verge conducted a comprehensive test of the "Find My Device" network and found that Google's technology has performed as well as Apple in crowded areas, but in remote areas, coverage and tracking time still need to be improved, depending on the tracker used and the specific scenario.
It is understood that Google's "Find My Device" network operates differently from Apple by default, using Bluetooth signals from a large number of participating Android devices (Android 9 and above) to crowdsource the location of lost phones, tablets and compatible trackers.
The network prioritizes user privacy and usually aggregates location data from multiple nearby Android phones before displaying an estimated area, rather than relying on reports from a single device. This protects the anonymity of bystanders using mobile phones to locate devices, but may result in slower updates or less accurate positioning range, especially for moving objects or sparsely populated areas.
The first UWB tracker launched for Google's network
The inclusion of UWB depends on hardware support from the phone and the tracker itself. Although the inclusion of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC may promote its application in future Android flagship phones, current mobile phone support is inconsistent.
It is understood that in addition to Apple, there are many flagship models on the market, including Samsung Galaxy S25, Google UltraPixel6 Pro, Pixel7 Pro, Pixel8 Pro, Huawei Mate XT, and Mate 70 RS, which are already equipped with UWB technology.
In terms of accessories, some tracking devices also support UWB, such as Apple AirTag and Galaxy Smart Tag 2. In addition, Motorola's Moto Tag is the first tracker equipped with UWB hardware specifically launched for the Google network.
Tumblr media
The latest news shows that Moto Tag has officially landed in India recently, using UWB chipsets and low-power Bluetooth (BLE) technology with an effective range of up to 100 meters.
The device supports Bluetooth 5.4 protocol, is compatible with devices running Android 9 or higher, and can be used with Google's "Find My Device" network. It is priced at 2299 rupees (about 197 yuan) and will be available through Flipkart and Moto India's official website.
However, its UWB function will still not be available until Google activates network support.
Meanwhile, trackers that brands such as Pebblebee and Chipolo have been offering since the early launch of Google's network rely solely on Bluetooth for network searches.
At present, Google has not launched its own brand tracker similar to Apple AirTag, but there are rumors that Google may be developing it.

The notch may annoy you on the 3 XL yet the smaller sized one exists with hardly any concession. The phones price from ₤ 739/ $799.

The dual electronic cameras are a shade listed below the high quality of the Pixel 3, however the majority of people won't care or observe.
While its phones have actually constantly been outstanding, the OnePlus 6T is its fantastic, and the phone with which its small concessions ultimately do not matter.
Samsung Galaxy S10 plus
The Galaxy S10 Plus is the most effective Galaxy phone ever before with impressive cams, construct, display as well as efficiency. The Exynos version is pull down by its simply appropriate battery life.
It's likewise really expensive from ₤ 899/ $999 and afterwards some, however it's a terrific experience with One UI's thoughtful additions, slick day to day use as well as even more functions than you can toss a stick at.
If you intend to invest ₤ 100/ $100 less there's the regular Galaxy S10 which has most of the very same features including the triple back cameras and superior display. You might also choose the S10e, yet it's a different phone with a smaller display, less battery and also less electronic cameras.

update: we've got delivered 14 photos – primarily in low-mild – underneath to test out the galaxy s10 digicam. see the gallery beneath and the primary benchmarking check that beats all other android telephones in phrases of pace.
the samsung galaxy s10 has been engineered to be a communique changer, a telephone that’s intended to turn everyone’s yearly question of “do i really need to upgrade?” right into a more exclamatory “do i really want to improve!” our palms-on time with the s10 proves that it does make this case, with some clean caveats. it’s the 6.1-inch infinity show that actually sells this telephone. it introduces a nearly-area-to-aspect look that stretches top to backside, with pixels spilling over the curved edges at the edges – there’s no room for huge bezels on samsung’s 2019 flagship smartphone. its new infinity-o display screen – also a function of the galaxy s10 plus and less expensive galaxy s10e – is so huge it absolutely displaces the front digicam, consigning it to a small ‘punch-hollow’ inside the screen. all of the crucial sensors are smartly tucked behind this vibrant and bright superb amoled display.
additionally at the back of the glass is the new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. you gained’t find a fingerprint pad on the back anymore, or anywhere visibly at the phone. samsung positioned its sensor – now invisible – at the the front, where we sense it belongs. the s10 formally makes punch-hollow presentations a trend after the concept debuted on the honor view 20, and in-display screen fingerprint sensors more mainstream when they seemed at the oneplus 6t, huawei mate 20 pro, and some vivo phones. it’s all within the motive of achieving that brilliant 93.1% display screen-to-body ratio at the the front of the phone.
maximization is also the idea behind the galaxy s10’s rear-dealing with triple-lens digicam. samsung’s camera array has lenses to take everyday, telephoto and new extremely-extensive pix. the ultra-extensive camera is all approximately capturing more of what’s in front of you without having to returned up. sure, lg telephones have touted ultra-extensive digicam lenses for years, most these days the lg v40, but samsung’s cameras had been greater constant in low-mild situations. the feature is finally in a a flagship-degree smartphone you want.
the galaxy s10 also has features all and sundry can get. its wireless powershare characteristic helps you to use the returned of the s10 to qi rate some other smartphone or the new galaxy buds, cloning the opposite wireless charging idea inside the huawei mate 20 seasoned, a cellphone that’s not extensively to be had in sure territories, which includes the usa. the galaxy s10 is an amalgam of other handsets’ single hallmark functions packed into one cellphone, whilst samsung pioneers as many technical features as it could cram in – quicker wi-fi 6 and hdr10+ are each firsts for smartphones. and that’s what samsung does high-quality certainly.  there’s a hitch or two in samsung’s masterplan to get everybody to improve to this precise handset. the s10 is steeply-priced, even greater so than final 12 months’s galaxy s9, although it’s markedly higher value than the iphone xs, which is more high-priced and has a smaller five.eight-inch display. then there’s the truth that samsung’s largest opposition in 2019 can be samsung. the galaxy s10e is inexpensive and almost as true, at the same time as the galaxy s10 plus is the smartphone you’ll want if you could manage its charge and display length – and that’s to say not anything of the galaxy s10 5g and the samsung galaxy fold, which early adopters may additionally search for real innovation at a higher price. the samsung galaxy s10 marks a decade of galaxy s phones, and even as there’s been little innovation in recent years from the maximum famous telephone manufacturers, together with samsung (bixby and ar emoji don’t reduce it), the s10 has enough newness to tempt you to improve. we’re nevertheless trying out the digital camera, overall performance and battery existence, however it’s already shaping as much as be one among 2019’s high-quality  the samsung galaxy s10 release date is friday, march 8, that's one week in advance than last 12 months’s telephone. it changed into formally announced on february 20, with pre-orders beginning right away in some nations. in the us, galaxy s10 pre-order started out on february 21. the galaxy s10 fee is $899 / £799 / au$1,349 / aed three,199, meaning you’re going to be spending an extra $a hundred and eighty / £60 / aed 100 on this cellphone over the s9 launch fee. if you like the appearance of this telephone however think that price is a tad high, you've got two options: you may pass for the inexpensive galaxy s10e, which starts at $749 / £669 / au$1,199 / aed 2,699, or suck up the price hike, surprise at the new 6.1-inch screen and 128gb base garage, and recognise that apple prices $a hundred / £two hundred / au$430 greater for the smaller five.8-inch iphone xs with half of the inner storage, 64gb. ordering the galaxy s10 earlier of march 8 will net you bonuses in some nations. in the us, for instance, samsung is presenting loose wi-fi galaxy buds really worth $149 / au$249 whilst you pre-order either the galaxy s10 or galaxy s10 plus. show samsung galaxy s10 specifications weight: 157g dimensions: 149.nine x 70.4 x 7.8mm os: android nine display screen length: 6.1-inch resolution: qhd+ cpu: octa-center chipset ram: 8gb garage: 128/512gb battery: 3,400mah rear digital camera: 16mp + 12mp + 12mp front digicam: 10mp     samsung’s screens are so right “our competition are even using them,” samsung emblem manager paul guzek advised techradar, an all-too-apparent dig at apple. it’s difficult to disagree. in truth, the galaxy s10’s 6.1-inch incredible amoled display panel looks higher than some thing samsung sells its opponents. it has elegantly curved edges with pixels that spill over the perimeters, amped-up brightness for higher out of doors visibility, and hdr10+ aid for superior evaluation and colour. the brand new infinity-o show type is what sticks out – for better or worse. samsung has efficaciously avoided a notch reduce-out on the top of its flagship phones, instead the usage of a laser-cut hole within the pinnacle-right corner of the display screen to embed the the front-facing digital camera, as on the honour view 20. is a ‘punch-hollow’ camera greater or much less distracting than a notch? we’re going to order judgment for our very last samsung galaxy s10 evaluate, when we’ll placed the cellphone via its paces in daily use. one thing we can say right away even though is that it’s given samsung extra display real estate to play with than ever. don’t permit the bigger 6.1-inch screen length scare you off. the s10’s dimensions are 149.nine x 70.four x 7.8mm (it weighs 157g), so it’s simplest marginally taller and wider than the s9 with its five.eight-inch display, and surprisingly thinner and a piece lighter. those marginal will increase in height and width are due to the s10’s screen-to-frame ratio of 93.1% (last year became eighty three.6%). bezel does define the pinnacle and backside of this display, despite the fact that we stated it wasn’t massive. samsung’s top speaker still reigns, and there’s a skinny but major chin throughout the lowest; it’s less bezel instead of bezel-much less. and the reality that the bottom bezel is greater than the top one catches our eye – it may be more distracting than the punch-hole. there’s little to dislike regarding the brand new display – if the infinity-o doesn’t distract everyday, and as referred to we’ll replace this review when we have more hands-on time with the s10. layout  you’re no longer going to be overly amazed by the rest of the samsung galaxy s10 design, although there are a few extremely good improvements, two hidden surprises, and an vintage classic here. its thinner aluminum frame is sandwiched among easy glass, with the back coming on your choice of color: flamingo red, prism black, prism blue, prism white, canary yellow and prism inexperienced. samsung galaxy s10 colours will range by way of region, with the usa getting all however yellow and inexperienced. there’s the smallest of camera bumps on the again, housing the triple-lens digicam array, at the same time as we saw no signs of samsung’s invisible opposite wi-fi charging module below this. it’s a specifically smooth appearance in a international of digital camera bumps and rear-fingerprint sensors. we had no difficulty activating samsung’s wireless powershare feature after turning it on thru the short settings notification shade. we located our galaxy buds case at the decrease third of the s10 back and the earbuds commenced charging nearly immediately. it even charged our iphone xs max. samsung laid out two situations in which wireless powershare would be beneficial: charging a friend’s phone, or charging your galaxy buds at night, correctly making your plugged-in s10 a cell qi charger pad. samsung mentioned, although, that powershare received’t work whilst the telephone is underneath 30%. also invisible – this time around the the front – is the fingerprint sensor. while plenty of android phones have used a rear-going through fingerprint sensor, samsung caught with the the front-facing bodily sensor pad all the manner up to the galaxy s7. so the switch to the back felt foreign on samsung phones – but it’s come lower back to the the front in the s10, this time tucked underneath the glass. this is an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, one of a kind from the optical sensors on the oneplus 6t and huawei mate 20 pro, as an instance. samsung uses qualcomm-sponsored tech that’s stated to be better, and greater cozy, via creating a 3D test of your print, however we’ll have to test it out everyday. to date, it’s unlocked the smartphone while we put our thumb on the lower-0.33 of the tool. extra literal impressions to come in our full overview. and right here’s a welcomed traditional that hasn’t changed because the first s phone a decade ago: the three.5mm headphone jack. samsung is one of the few cellphone makers that includes the same old headphone jack in 2019 – and it’s doing it despite introducing the wireless galaxy buds. samsung wants you to take photographs at any perspective, so the galaxy s10 has a triple-lens camera on returned with a 12mp regular lens, 12mp optically zoomed telephoto lens, and a cutting-edge 16mp ultra-extensive lens. we got to test the s10 camera thru our s10 plus evaluate unit (they have the equal cameras), and got awesome effects. here's the gallery: here's the equal shot in stay recognition (samsung's portrait mode). it nicely blurs the history, and you can change the history blur depth even after the shot is taken. samsung additionally includes blur filters: creative, spin, zoom and shade factor (which in this case made the history black and white). they are really certainly cool searching. the galaxy s10 camera takes splendid pictures, even in combined and low mild conditions. it is not too dark on our concern, us mobile editor david lumb, and the brilliant shifting flames are captured with element with out being overexposed. shot hints helped us frame up the shot. this digicam reticle may be helpful and you do not should snap the picture. the shutter simply activates whilst you hover over the reticle 'excellent shot' dot. but it is now not constantly correct. occasionally it stuck the circle off-center in a group shot for no obvious motive. usual, it is a pleasant touch with a few room for improvement. in our ongoing galaxy s10 camera assessment, we have observed topics up near with enough light include outstanding detail. have fun meals picture takers. the scene optimizer ai works well for food. the 12mp digicam offers us plenty of element, and whilst vibrancy and saturation are cranked up a chunk in comparison to an iphone, samsung's digicam no longer makes food appearance oversaturated and alien searching. there was a time whilst samsung's cameras would make hotdogs, as an example, appearance fireplace engine red through amping up assessment. testing the blur effect of the main digicam (with out switching to portrait mode) proved to give us the depth effect we desired. robust detail in the foreground, with wealthy bokeh inside the background. we tapped the history to get that in recognition, and the bokeh gave our foreground some fine blur. the element inside the background is crisp – like the fried hen. the galaxy s10 digital camera now and again looks higher than actual existence. its blues and orangey-reds here sincerely pop, even as the white doesn't appear to be too heat to together with it (earlier than you frequently could not have one with out the other). we still sense the google pixel 3 night sight mode does a higher process, however samsung could be very near. greater comparisons to come. here is a nicely-lit vicinity of two subjects. the picture avoids being too warm, placing pretty appropriate shade and white balance. right here's the identical shot from the brand new extremely-wide digicam. the tough component approximately this sort of extensive camera is that there may be regularly needless extra in there. cropping or the usage of the everyday lens is just first-rate. now not every shot merits this digital camera lens, but it creates a neat effect within the situations. right here's any other extremely-huge picture we took using the s10 camera. this is a more suitable image demonstrating some of the factors you'll omit with the tighter regular lens. the s10 is right at lively tracking speedy-shifting topics. working example, it was able to seize those bright flames as they moved in the san francisco wind. they may be crisp, not blurry, and no longer overexposed notwithstanding the camera also desiring to seize the darkish stones. we nevertheless locate the samsung's digicam to amp up vibrancy and saturation, additionally making use of an instagram clear out ahead of time. this works well for us, however comes down to taste. the iphone xs we use often has genuine-to-lifestyles hues, but subsequent to the s10 or google pixel 3, they look alternatively drab. we’re going to take a difficult observe the digital camera, how it as compared to the elegance-leading pixel 3, and determine how accurate the extremely-wide photos look. samsung’s 123-diploma area of view is as an alternative extensive, which serves the purpose of now not having to again as much as get the whole lot in a shot. however which can bring about an unnatural fisheye look. this extremely-wide digital camera additionally lacks ois in comparison to the other  lenses. at the front, we have a single 10mp camera with dual vehicle-focuses. in case you upgrade to the s10 plus, you’ll additionally get an 8mp digital camera supposed for boosting intensity in portrait pics. scene optimizer gains 10 new categories, with samsung’s digital camera ai now able to tell the difference among a cat and dog to first-rate tune such things as white stability. shot hints is a new feature that makes use of the neural processor engine to nudge you to properly level your pictures or frame subjects better. on the video aspect, the software program has been upgraded to record in hdr10+ and offer virtual video stabilization. samsung says that this is supposed to make all of your extremely hd video as smooth as an action cam. shots fired, gopro hero7 black. specifications and battery existence the samsung galaxy s10 receives right under-the-hood improvements, touting the new probably the greatest snapdragon or exynos chipsets, relying on which u . s . a . you stay in.  it's plenty rapid. the qualcomm snapdragon 855 chipset we benchmarked got here back with a document-breaking multi-score velocity... for android. the iphone xs continues to be a bit faster, but samsung is very close at 11,002 to apple's eleven,481. it also comes with 8gb of ram – a extreme upgrade over the 4gb of ram in ultimate 12 months’s s9 – and consists of alternatives for 128gb or 512gb of inner garage. there’s no 64gb version to worry approximately here, and samsung still helps expandable garage. it includes a 3,400mah battery, an upgrade over the three,000mah capability of the s9. due to the bigger display, officially, samsung is still claiming all-day battery life if now not a chunk more. additionally onboard is subsequent-gen wi-fi 6, in order to aid seamless transition among wireless routers and is four instances faster than 802.11ax. it should supply a 20% velocity raise, however you’ll need a new router to honestly get any use out of this feature. what you gained’t get in this phone is the s10 plus and note nine-exceptional vapor chamber cooling. if you’re a gamer, you can need to improve to the larger telephone for extra than just the larger display. early verdict the galaxy s10 is a deserved tenth anniversary phone for samsung and its storied s series. its new show kind lays out greater pixels throughout much less frame, has a triple-lens digital camera so that you can now take extremely-wide pictures, and includes a larger battery surrounded via beefier specs. you’ll like any of those functions, even as your pals will like the new wireless powershare perk. the s10 marks an anniversary, however it additionally marks some thing a bit exceptional amongst smartphones. it disrupts the sameness of smartphones simply sufficient to turn out to be a tempting upgrade.  the fee, but, might also come up with second mind. that’s where the galaxy s10e plays an critical function. our galaxy s10 fingers-on review isn’t finished but. this phone requires loads greater checking out and daily use to determine if the 3-eyed rear camera is the fine within the international and the ‘punch-hole’ infinity-o show is the style of display screen we need to stare at in 2019.

35. Enable one-handed mode

Huawei P40 Pro vs Huawei P40 vs Huawei P40 Pro+: What's the Difference?
New Post has been published on https://magzoso.com/tech/huawei-p40-pro-vs-huawei-p40-vs-huawei-p40-pro-whats-the-difference/
Huawei P40 Pro vs Huawei P40 vs Huawei P40 Pro+: What's the Difference?
Tumblr media
Huawei announced its P40 series on Thursday, March 26, in an online-only event. The trio of phones includes the Huawei P40, Huawei P40 Pro, and the Huawei P40 Pro+. Each of the phones has some similarities like the octa-core Kirin 990 5G chipset and some differences like the number of rear cameras. The P40 Pro and P40 Pro+ models have more in common with each other than the non-Pro variant so, let’s put the three phones against each other and see what exactly is different.
As seen with the Huawei Mate 30 series last year, the Huawei P40 series comes without any Google software, thanks to the US trade blacklisting. This means no Google Search, no Google Play Store, and no Google Mobile Services. With the Huawei P40 series phones sold in France, Germany, and Italy, Huawei will install a European search engine called Qwant. A new search assistant called ‘Celia’ is also being used that is expected to rely on Qwant’s search results in Europe. The Google Play Store has been replaced by Huawei’s own AppGallery.
Huawei P40 Pro vs Huawei P40 vs Huawei P40 Pro+: Price, availability
The Huawei P40 Pro will be offered in a single 8GB + 256GB model that is priced at EUR 999 (roughly Rs. 82,900). The Huawei P40 also comes in a single RAM and storage configuration, 8GB + 128GB, which is priced at EUR 799 (roughly Rs. 66,300). Both phones come in three glossy colour variants – Black, Deep Sea Blue, and Ice White, as well as two matte variants – Blush Gold and Silver Frost – and will go on sale starting April 7.
The Huawei P40 Pro+, on the other hand, comes in an 8GB + 512GB model that is priced at EUR 1,399 (roughly Rs. 1,16,000). It does not follow the same colour scheme as the other two phones and will be released in Black Ceramic and White Ceramic when it goes on sale later in June.
Huawei P40 Pro vs Huawei P40 vs Huawei P40 Pro+: Specifications
All three new Huawei P40 phones support dual-SIM (Nano) connectivity and run Android 10 with Huawei’s EMUI 10.1 on top. There is no support for Google apps on all three phones. The Huawei P40 Pro has a 6.58-inch (1,200×2,640 pixels) OLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, which is the same for the Huawei P40 Pro+. The Huawei P40 has a slightly smaller 6.1-inch (1,080×2,340 pixels) OLED panel with a slower 60Hz refresh rate. All three phones also pack the octa-core Kirin 990 5G SoC, the Mali-G76 MC16 GPU, and 8GB of RAM.
Coming to the optics, this is where the major differences are. The Huawei P40 Pro packs a quad rear camera setup with the primary shooter being a 50-megapixel Ultra Vision camera with f/1.9 aperture and OIS. The secondary is a 40-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide-angle f/1.8 lens. The third is 12-megapixel telephoto f/3.4 lens with SuperSensing and OIS. The fourth and final is a 3D depth sensing camera. For selfies, you get a 32-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture as well as a depth sensor. The Huawei P40 retains the 50-megapixel Ultra Vision camera but removes OIS. The secondary camera has a 16-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide-angle f/2.2 lens. The third is an 8-megapixel telephoto f/2.4 lens with OIS. On the front is a 32-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture and an infrared (IR) sensor.
The Huawei P40 Pro+ steps it up with a penta rear camera setup. The primary and secondary cameras are the same as the Huawei P40 Pro. The third is an 8-megapixel f/4.4 SuperZoom camera with 10X optical zoom and OIS. The fourth is an 8-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom and OIS. And finally, the fifth is a 3D depth sensing camera. The selfie camera configuration is also the same as the Huawei P40 Pro.
Coming to storage, the Huawei P40 Pro includes 256GB, the Huawei P40 has 128GB, and the Huawei P40 Pro+ will come with 512GB. Storage on the Huawei P40 Pro and the Huawei P40 can be expanded via Huawei’s Nano Memory 2 card but the Huawei P40 Pro+ does not have that feature.
The Huawei P40-series phone are 5G and Wi-Fi 6 compatible, and offer other connectivity options like Bluetooth5.1, USB Type-C charging port, no headphone jack, and NFC. In terms of battery, the Huawei P40 Pro has 4,200mAh with support for 40W charging and 27W wireless charging. The Huawei P40 has a smaller 3,800mAh battery that supports 22.5W fast charging with no wireless charging support. The Huawei P40 Pro+ has the same capacity and charging speed as the Huawei P40 Pro but supports a maximum of 40W wireless charging.
Talking about the dimensions of the three phones, the Huawei P40 Pro comes in at 158.2×72.6×8.9mm and weighs 209 grams. The Huawei P40 is slightly smaller and lighter at 148.9×71.06×8.5mm and weighs 175 grams. The Huawei P40 Pro+, on the other hand, is slightly thicker and heavier than the Huawei P40 Pro at 158.2×72.6×9.0mm and 226 grams. You get IP68 rating with the P40 Pro and P40 Pro+ while the P40 gets an IP53 rating.

CES launches Top mobile phone trends of 2020
Tumblr media
Top phone trends from Consumer Electronics Show 2020, the annual tech confab tell us about some design and price trends for 5G this year.
The annual CES electronics show in Las Vegas is a fantastic launchpad for the most exciting, futuristic tech that companies can dream up. But phones aren’t typically part of that equation.
Phone makers are far more likely to save their whiz-bang features and high-powered specs for Mobile World Congress, the world’s largest mobile show, which takes place Feb. 24-27 in Barcelona.
But that doesn’t mean that CES, which took place last week, was bereft of handsets. The phones that we did see, check ’em out in the gallery below hint at important trends we’ll see in 2020.
The Motorola Razr costs $1,500. The Galaxy Fold is $2,000. And the Huawei Mate X is $2,400. Foldable phones are anything but cheap. Foldable phones are an emerging category that shakes up an otherwise static world of phones by bending the display in half.
The high cost of research and development and new manufacturing techniques make these early foldable designs at least double the cost of their 4G counterparts. The “privilege” of owning a cutting-edge device may also contribute to the price. But the high price of these first foldables means that few people will actually be able to buy one. Lowering the price will also mean lowering the barrier to ownership, which foldable phones need if they’re going to stick around.
At CES, TCL showed us a working prototype of a foldable phone that’s designed to cost less than the Motorola Razr. It features a 7.2-inch display and three rear cameras and will support 5G.
We also learned that Samsung’s next foldable phone, which is rumored to cost $850, could be called the Galaxy Bloom.
5G phones aren’t as expensive as foldables, but they still cost more per device than 4G handsets with the same specs. The same rule also applies to the faster 5G data technology cheaper 5G options will get more people using these devices. And for carriers, the faster data speeds could translate into more profits as customers use more data per person.
For phone buyers, it’s just nice to have more affordable ways to get 5G speeds. Enter the TCL Pro 5G for under $500, the CoolPad Legacy for $400 and Verizon’s plan to sell 20 5G phones in 2020, including some that cost less than $600. Compared to the $1,300 Galaxy Note 10 5G, that’s a pretty good deal. Just expect trade-offs in the features department.
Camera tech has always been essential for phones, but even the look and placement of the lenses elicit strong opinions.
The Galaxy Note 10 Lite and Galaxy S10 Lite both feature square and rectangular black camera mounts respectively, mimicking the Google Pixel 4.
Some industry watchers think that Samsung is taking the bold road to counter the iPhone 11, whose large, protruding cluster of rear lenses makes Apple’s phone immediately identifiable.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, the OnePlus Concept One phone uses an electrical current to either hide or reveal the phone’s multiple cameras on its back. The concept is to make the phone look sleeker, especially at a time when camera lenses are proliferating.
Phones aimed at gamers have made up a small but steady contingent of handsets. 5G data has a huge implication for gaming, promising far more immersive and sophisticated graphics through the kind of on-the-fly rendering that can be achieved through 5G’s increased data delivery.
Processors, too, are getting into gaming, with the Snapdragon 765G, a midrange chipset that’s specifically made for gaming phones. And more phone makers are set to embrace displays with 120Hz refresh rates for smoother animations.
The Black Shark 2 Pro has neither of the first two things, but it’s still possibly the best gaming phone we have seen, complete with a case that makes it work a little like the Nintendo Switch.
A helpful gaming mode also makes this handset specifically geared toward gaming, rather than a mainstream phone that’s powerful enough to play long sessions of resource-heavy games.

OPPO Reno 5G
Looking at this device, the first thing that would click in your mind would not be the 5G connectivity, 10x zoom, or the pop-up camera; but how heavy the phone feels. Any Plans for a 5G iPhone?
Apple has not announced any plans for launching a 5G enabled iPhone yet. However, there is absolutely no doubt the manufacturer will upgrade to the next-gen connectivity eventually. At the moment, industry insiders speculate that 2020 is the year-most probably during the year’s second half since the manufacturer is accustomed to releasing new brands every September.
According to analyst Kuo, the phone will come in two models: 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch varieties. Both will have 5G, but they will also offer a cheaper 6.1-inch model will use LTE.
Know Whether Your Phone is 5G Compatible
Unless your phone is included on the list above, the phone you own at the moment is not compatible with the 5G phone network. With 5G compatibility only just beginning to be included in smartphones, manufacturers are certainly charging for the privilege. As the technology becomes more widespread, we should see competition in the market and efficiencies in production lower the cost of 5G compatible phones.
State of 5G Coverage in Australia
Currently, Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone have begun work on their Australian 5G networks.
Telstra and Optus have the upper hand when it comes to 5G plans. Both companies have already begun offering the fast connectivity. Right now, in fact, you cannot sign up for a new plan without enjoying some form of this next-gen internet connectivity.
Both Telstra and Optus are currently offering a range of plans from as little as 4GB of data to 200GB of data. Both providers are still building their 5G infrastructure and as of now, coverage is very limited. Since it is in the trial period, Telstra’s 5G coverage continues to grow. At the moment, only ten regions and cities have this future-ready network coverage in place. This includes:
Perth
Launceston
Hobart
Toowoomba
Gold Coast
Sydney
Melbourne
Brisbane
Canberra
Adelaide
Notably, the cities have some degree of coverage, but this does not account for the whole region. Telstra’s dedicated page offers an updated map of the areas with 5G coverage.
Optus is rollout of its 5G network is available in more cities than Telstra, but more sparsely available in those locations. This should increase quickly, as Optus aim to have 1,00 5G sites ready by March 2020. Current availability includes:
Canberra
Brisbane
Adelaide
Perth
Fremantle
Sydney
Newcastle and the Central Coast
Hawkesbury River
Melbourne
Geelong
Mornington Peninsula
And more
In addition to Optus’ 5G mobile network, Optus has also begun rolling out a 5G home broadband network, with an unlimited data plan on a 50Mbps connection available in limited areas. You can check if you’re located in the right location here.
As for Vodafone, they’ve been a little more hush hush when it comes to their 5G rollout, with an expected availability in 2020. We’re sure to hear more from Vodafone as they play catch-up with Telstra and Optus in the coming months.
It sounds crazy that for less than 30 years, we have evolved from the humble SMSs to streaming anything you would like to watch. With mobile data speed kicking up a notch with Telstra’s and Optus’ 5G networks, more 5G-capable devices will continue to enter the Australian market.
Still, if you intend to acquire any of these revolutionary devices specifically for the fast speeds, you must ascertain whether your current location has 5G connectivity. But it might still be the best move to wait for this network to be made available broadly.
So unless you require a new device right away, you are better off waiting for some time – at least until the network becomes more widely adopted and the devices fall in price. At the moment, you can do as many things with your 4G device as those of the latest connectivity, and save some money on the new device.
Running your business seamlessly relies heavily on ensuring your communication tools and connectivity are quick and reliable. If you’d like to know more about getting your staff connected and working like a fully implemented 5G network – let’s connect!
