Years ago I had a successful Bandog breeding program, I was pushing seven (7) generations with the last three (3) generations breeding consistently. . . For those who will ask, what is a Bandog? It’s any dog that is crossed with a Pitbull type and Mastiff type, preferably Male Pitbull and Female Neapolitan/English Mastiff. The crossing of the various breeds and the name Bandog goes back a couple centuries if not more but is now being heard more often due to people wanting to create a hybrid or designer type dog. . . In modern times Dr John Swinford a Veterinarian has been given credit to resurrecting the breed in the late 60’s but passed away before perfecting the breed. His intention was to produce a more athletic Mastiff but somehow it’s been led to believe in lore as well as a book that came out in the 70’s that it was to produce a new fighting dog. . .
