Brand New Day

(In the Cabin’s Den) Ahxis Ax had no idea at all where he was now. There were outlines of nearby furniture he didn’t recognize and a softness under his body that hinted at a bed of some kind. Without moving a muscle, he let his eyes adjust to the soft lighting and looked up to see the faces of the two who’d he’d been longing for. Now, his twin brother Ahtlas and his beautiful Tamsin were right there… just above him. They were so close he could have reached out and touched them both, but he didn’t, he couldn’t…the two only had eyes for each other. Ax could see Ahtlas following each tiny movement of Tamsin’s luscious lips, as she softly sang her part of the song and when his brother took up the next line with his own deeper voice; Tamsin all but melted into his open arms. Despite the abuse his body had taken, Ahxis’ return to consciousness had been miraculously pain free. That is, until the moment he realized, no matter what his musings and Addy’s words had allowed him to believe… Tamsin belonged to Ahtlas. The pain of that imagined loss hit him full in the chest with the power of a boulder, causing a sharp gasp to escape his lips and alerting every one of his return to the land of the living. Tamsin *I heard the gasp of air straight away, it was like a bell had been silenced and then, now, come back to life. It was your breath and the only sound I heard at that moment. Everything else vanished, my hands moved away from Aht’s chest, and I leant down to you, needed you to see my face that someone was here, had you seen us already. Before I even said a thing, my hands went to your hair, your cheek, gentle and searching, my palms stroking your hair, the skin of your cheek, my lips drew into a soft and then wider smile as my eyes darted over your face. Suddenly there was nothing else but you in the room, my heart beat with such hope and joy, my words failed me but there was only a few I needed you to hear. Leaning down, my hands gently holding you, I held your eyes and bought my face to yours, my cheek held close, and the stream of tears I had been holding in for so many other reasons now feel onto your cheek, then words soft for you and only you* Ax, my Rosebud. You are awake….*a trembling breath in* I love you. Ahxis The cascade of rhythm from his own heartbeat threatened to drown out the sound of Tamsin’s soft words. God, her voice…how he’d missed the sound of her voice. Memories of their fight in that dark alley were clear in his mind and his eyes frantically scanned her lovely features looking for any sign of injury. He tipped his head slightly from side to side to take in the sight of as much of her form as he could see. There were scrapes and signs of bruises and Ax began to struggle against the tight bandage he could feel around his jaw, trying to force desperate words out. “hu..hurt…are yuu…you hurt?” Feeling like he was moving through thick mud, Ax raised his arm at the elbow and tried to push against her shoulder, he needed to see that she was all right; that his inability to protect her hadn’t caused her great injury. “Tam… aaa…yoou ok?”
