Mike's Media Medley--November 2024
here's the second to last one of these this year before i do what i watched/played in dec post and then a post of my top 7 games and movies for the whole year :p got a little more proactive this month since i had some free time due to thanksgiving break so let's get started!
things i watched or played for the very first time this november--
Movies/Shows(2024 releases)--Wicked, Arcane season 2
Movies (non-2024 releases)--Run Lola Run (1998), Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Games-- Long Live the Queen (2013), Darkwood (2014), Hexcraft: Harlequin Fair (2021), Papa's Pizzeria Deluxe and Crime Scene Cleaner (2024),
Movies / Shows:
Arcane season 2
okay so i actually have a fair bit to say about arcane season 2 so i think i will save that for its own post but i didn't like it as much as season 1. im gonna give it like a 77.5/100. season 1 would've been a 90/100.
Run Lola Run (1998)
this is another movie i meant to see for its anniversary re-release and took a while to get around to but GOD this movie was weird and i really liked it i LOVE absurdism. the soundtrack was banging and there were just really interesting directorial choices here. it reminded me a lot of Good Time and i feel like i can almost trace a line between the two in terms of influence.
i think she should've broken up with her stupid boyfriend who looks a shocking amount like theo james tho
greatly enjoyed it. might rewatch it.
85/100
Shaun of the Dead (2004)
i meant to watch this on halloween but then I Forgor so it got rolled over into november. i thought it was pretty funny but i struggle to remember too much of it. it was written and directed by edgar wright so you know there was a lot of clever shit going on but also there were just some moments i remember making me go :/ but i dont entirely remember what. i think the movie really started losing me by the third act but i had a fun time watching it
70/100
Wicked
ok yeah it was pretty good
i wasn't really expecting to like this cuz i am just. NOT a musical person. like i liked hamilton but only because it wasn't like most other musicals and also ive literally never listened to all of hamilton LMFAO so i'm just not a musical person. that being said this WHOLE movie was really fun and i've seen it like 3 times
the set pieces (lots of real sets, and not cgi!) were beautiful and the character performances were all fun. ariana was like. surprisingly hilarious??? like i DID watch victorious growing up but i don't remember much so maybe i shouldn't be surprised. and cynthia put her whole fucking pussy into singing this thing
my only gripes are, based on what i've heard about the second half of the musical i wonder how they're gonna handle elphaba's sister + munchkin guy because i feel like they didn't do much here but that's a future problem for a future movie. and secondly i thought the. actual like. shooting of the movie was very bland considering its subject matter. like the camera is energetic ENOUGH for the musical scenes but i feel like it could be going crazier and don't even get me started on the LIGHTING of this thing but other than that. this was fun and i have a lot of the songs stuck in my head!
90/100
bideo games
Crime Scene Cleaner (2024)
haven't played a whole lot of this but it does scratch the same itch for me as like house flipper. i do have to be in the mood for those types of games though. this one has the addition of an incredibly awkward english translation so that's nice. i like the music stuff that's neat
Darkwood (2014)
ok so i played this for like 2 hours at a friend's and i was really trying to enjoy the Vibes but the inventory management stuff just like. kind of made it a slog. so i quit sawi
Hexcraft: Harlequin Fair (2021)
im gonna be honest i have no idea whats going on here i think its kind of just like. a Vibes and Atmosphere game. and i get what its going for as like this old school mmo type of things i think. i am enjoying it im just also stupid and dont get it yet. shout out to the estrogen pills filling up my inventory tho
Long Live the Queen (2013)
dog they got me doing spreadsheets. they got me writing stuff down with a pen and paper doing math. it's like disco elysium but instead of solving a murder you're trying to survive until your coronation and every roll of the die CAN kill you for ridiculous reasons what do you mean i need to invest in my decoration skills to beat the evil wizard fuck you im obsessed
Papa's Pizzeria Deluxe (2024)
ive never actually played pizzeria before! i appreciate that it's way more difficult than papa's freezeria but im gonna be honest some of these people need to be in jail for their pizza orders

Thanks to @orion-lacroix for the tag! I was gonna get to it earlier but... life happened and I forgor.
Eto bleh. Anyways.
(Also I'm writing this while incredibly tired, so I'm sorry if my English isn't up to scratch)
Writeblr Questionaire
How long have you had your Writeblr/writing Tumblr?
I've had this Tumblr account since the beginning of lockdown (March/April 2020 by us) and I created it because of a PM Seymour video. I made like one post that has now been banished to the void, then forgot I even had a Tumblr account until about ¿June/July? last year when a friend of mine brought up the idea of using Tumblr to share her writing, and I decided to do the same.
What's one thing you'd like your mutuals to know about you?
Due to reasons that include but are not limited to me barely having time anymore, I have a tendency to sometimes take a while to reply to people on here.
Don't worry if it takes like a week for me to respond, I'm just like that sometimes.
What's your favourite thing about the Writeblr community?
The amount of people who are infinitely more skilled than me that I can learn and take inspiration from.
Which WIPs or Writing Projects have you been Noodling about recently?
I've had a few emotional scenes for the Tempest Prince brewing in my head (plus I have like an hour with nothing to do after every exam I write, so daydreaming it is)
I'm also somewhat noodling for a small game I'm working on as a side project, but that's less story-related and more technical shenanigans at this point.
Do you remember what inspired them/got you started?
Children of the Stars I don't remember exactly what inspired the story aspect, but I know what the setting evolved from. Basically, I was a huge Mass Effect fan in primary school. Actually, I was a fan of Scifi overall but Mass Effect was peak gaming for me back then. Then somewhere along the line I played Bulletstorm and Warhammer 40k: Space Marine, and this half daydream of an Alien Empire locked in an eternal war for survival began to evolve in the back of my head before turning into the first recognisable precursor to Children of the Stars somewhere in late 2021.
Echoes of Shadows was inspired by the game Tails Noir, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, and a Call of Cthulhu campaign run by a friend of mine way back when.
The Tempest Prince was originally conceived of because my first playthrough of Bloodborne coincided with my first reading of the Percy Jackson books.
Is there anything you'd like to see more of on your dash?
Comics and short stories. Look, I don't have time to read a full length book until, like, November again, so a little episodic escape is a nice way to detox from the crap we need to deal with for these exams.
Name any characters you've created: side characters, protagonists, antagonists, characters who've never been written, the first original abomination you pulled from your rear... whatever you like!
Artemis is a Siberian ARX-11 mechanized shock-drop trooper who was deployed in a conflict so violent that future historians in-universe consider it less of a war than a outright cataclysm.
Quite literally, like the humble sea-turtle: she was born feet first into a hell she never asked for.
She's also one of the incredibly few Androids who not only survived the Fall of Earth, but after her inevitable 'death' by running out of fuel sources, she managed to remain intact for another six hundred years before a Union archaeology team found her and her enclave and managed to restore some of them to working order.
How much time- in your best estimation- do you spend thinking about them?
Outside the story of Children of Strife, this also makes her one of the oldest sentient beings in the known universe and technically the great great grandmother of almost all modern Androids and Biosynths.
It's also rumoured that she helped to raise a child orphaned during the fall of Earth who would grow up to be the military advisor of the first Empress, which technically makes her an important theological figure in the (now dying) Imperial cult.
Yes
Who's the most unhinged?
See, I'd say Adrian from Children of the Stars because he has a tendency to just do shit that makes you worry about his safety, but the thing with him is that he is fully aware of what he's actually capable of and is very cautious to not overstep those limits.
Lyanni, However...
One of Adrian's many nicknames for her is Miragran, which is Callistoan for "Big miracle", because that's what it must've taken for her to have not gotten herself killed yet.
Who comes the most naturally for you to write?
The fact that the answer is Adrian Castellan does not speak kindly about my mental health, does it...
Do you ever cringe at them?
How much control do you have over your characters? Do they ever write themselves, refuse to co-operate or do things you didn't expect? To what extent?
Not really.
Well, except for Adrian being a typical 27th century child who has no conception of sexism/racism/homophobia etc. beyond it being a footnote in a half-forgotten history textbook, which puts him in situations where it takes him a minute or two to realise that someone's being a prick to Lyanni.
I'd say I have relatively decent control over them. With the exception of the Haliday brothers in the Tempest Prince, 'cause they speak the same dialect of English as I do but I need to dial it back a bit because what's understandable for us has moments where it barely looks like English to foreigners.
And every so often I need to go back and un-Saffa their lines a bit because guess what? My dialect is annoyingly insistent on manifesting itself in these characters.
Are some less co-operative than others?
The old version of Adrian's character was really damn uncooperative. Like, he kept feeling like he was sitting on a story that he couldn't tell, and that was why he kept feeling like he was acting wrong no matter what I wrote him doing.
His current iteration tells that story in a way, and that element of tragedy playing into who he is has made him a lot more co-operative.
When someone asks the dreaded "What do you write about?" question, what do you usually say?
See, most people who know that I write are either close friends who already know what I write, or don't care enough to ask.
My grandmother, however, did ask the one time. That was also the day I realised that I know absolutely no scifi terminology in my home language.
Do you enjoy people asking questions about your characters and do you have a preferred way of receiving said questions?
Listen, if you wrote the question as a note, folded it into a paper airplane and threw it through my window, I'd firstly be very concerned about how in the nine hells you figured out where I live, then I'd be utterly ecstatic for the rest of the day because someone asked me a question.
I keep all my socials separate, though, so if you have any questions then asks, comments, and reblogs on Tumblr are pretty much the only way to go.
What makes you follow another Writeblr account? Do you follow them as you see them? Scope them out first to make sure you align with its content? Or do you follow based on WIPs or vibes?
Imma be honest there are like two people on here whom I followed simply because I know them IRL, and like three total writeblrs whom I followed first.
Everyone else followed me and I said "Ey, sha'p," before following back.
Do you interact with non-mutuals often?
I try to.
Do your mutuals' OCs occupy a space in your Noodle?
Absolutely!
No pressure tag for @honeybewrites and @thatoneterrariaplayers-vault,

I think this year f1 will be the closest it’s been since 2021. The other cars have caught up to and are challenging Red Bull, and this is not just one team it’s multiple. Ferrari were the first to crack the Red Bull shell, McLaren have been on the up and up since Silverstone last year and they don’t look like they’re stopping any time soon, and finally Mercedes seems to have found some speed, you could see hints of it in Monaco this year but Canada really solidifies this for me. It’s no fluke that George is P1, and although Lewis is back in P7 he still has quite a good chance this race.
Anyway these are some of my thoughts for the past 2 races and I think that there are going to be so many different winners this year. Already we’ve had 4 different winners in 8 races, Max hasn’t won 2 races in a row since the start of the season in Bahrain and Saudi.
Edit: I realise he also had 2 wins in a row at Japan and China, my bad I forgor 🫠
#f1#thoughts and comments#rambles#george russell#lewis hamilton#max verstappen#canadian gp 2024#we’ve got a great season of racing this year and it’s so excitinggggg

Excellent. Took several years, but made it to the end.
Ambition: Nemesis spoilers by the way.
I should add some of own commentary on this, probably, so here we go.
I originally began playing Fallen London in I think 2021, because I saw a gif of a meme of a kid rapidly speaking on Discord with the captions "Play" on the top of the gif, and "Fallen London" on the bottom of the gif and I was like, 'hmmm, what is Fallen London?'
So I joined out of curiosity, and the rest was history.
I played Fallen London for like a year before dropping it. I did do that Whitsun, as I had hapennies when I came back, and maybe I did do a bit of Chime's Grand Clearing Out? Could be misremembering. I wasn't around for the whole Horticulture thing, which, is a shame, honestly would have wanted to be a part of that, but yeah.
Regardless, I started Ambition: Nemesis simply because it seemed more story based compared to the others. My main account wasn't really roleplaying at this point, and to this day, it really isn't. It has my general username, and even if I tried to translate it into an OC, I feel like it really wouldn't work, which, well, made the story somewhat lost on me, unfortunately.
That said, it wasn't like I had some fun. I remember being absurdly scared of Seeking, especially since I never encountered it until Christmas, because I remember looking at Eaten Sacks and just seeing the whole **do not do this** sort of thing and I just freaked out. These days, I would gladly accept a crumb, but back then, I was new, I was scared, the well was a black hole I wasn't ready to jump in yet.
My main account ain't jumping in there at all even now anyways.
Eventually, I did drop Fallen London. It kinda just faded from my memory. There wasn't a day when I went, NO MORE LONDON, it was just, yeah, shrug, forgor.
Fast forward to around last Hallowmas, after sorting my bookmarks, I saw Fallen London, and that shit hit me like some correspondent shoving everything violant down my eyes.
And so I got back into it, and even began several different alts, three dedicated to the other ambitions, two to seeking, which one is to toss themselves into the void and the other is to turn back, and one that's just a mailman.
Also, they are much more proper OCs than my main account.
As such, shenanigans ensued. My attention was sort of divided between all these ambitions and just the resource intensive seeking, so I kinda was just all over the place like someone had just tossed all of my paperwork onto the floor and said, 'fill it all out'.
It was fun though, maybe I'll go in depth for each of the accounts later but back to Ambition: Nemesis
Honestly, I was kinda just stuck on Knifegate for a while. I did some of Heart's Game and Great Game Renown grinding, selling off stuff and stolen kisses as I did. I am so thankful I lucked out and got the success on the first try, my god, a good half of those knives were from before the Rat Market update halved the price of those knives.
Either way, now at the end of the Ambition, I can say, yeah, pretty good. It's pretty character driven, which uh, helps out my other OC writing for lore, but, considering my main account wasn't made for RPing in the first place and was just there to be there... Yeah, I couldn't really enjoy it in the same way as I have been with the other ambitions, simply because I didn't really make a character to RP with here. It was just me existing.
Still, I did manage to get to the end. My first Ambition finished. A great accomplishment still, if I say so myself. Maybe I'll do it again with another account just to slip much more into character. But not right now.
If you're still here reading my ramblings, stand up, move around, raise a cup of whatever suits your fancy, and drink deeply. It's still a time of celebration.
A new true denizen of the neath joins the rest, after all, and I hope to see more of the neath in all its beauty.
#fallen london#fallen london spoilers#ambition nemesis#cups raised#drink very deeply#drink like its a well#or maybe not since we know who's in there#a new true denizen of the neath approaches#also insane ramblings about just existing#how the flip do you make the 'keep reading' bar exist i don't want to spoil people unintentionally

okay im just gonna type some shit for the moment or whatever but elise mf origin post because it's super funny to me
long rambly post with a bunch of card game images
anyway way back in like 2020 and early 2021 Legends of Runeterra had its Lab of Legends mode. Similar to Path of Champions but like, way more basic since it was the earlier version. You pick a champ and fight through a series of 9? stages or so, theyre all the same each time, with the bosses being Thresh, Sejuani (FUCK Scargrounds stage) and Viktor (and FUCK Guard Bots stage too). Each first clear with a champ would grant you a unique player icon for them, but I wasn't super concerned with collecting them all, I really just wanted Miss Fortune. The problem was that her starting deck is kind of Not Great and it's especially easy to get reamed by bad rng and her ability is straight up a hindrance against Scargrounds. I was having so much trouble with MF runs it was unreal. My friend cleared it relatively quickly, but I could not for the life of me get a good run going. I struggled with it on and off for WEEKS. I was just resigned to never clearing it.
So one fateful day in February of 2021 I am going through yet another MF lab run and get offered a choice between Zoe, Elise and Jinx as my deck's support champs. Fuck it, I'm thinking, just take Elise for laughs, who gives a shit anymore.

While I'm playing I'm shitposting on discord with a friend and making jokes about the whole thing, and we all know what happens when you make jokes. Didn't win that run but within a day it did get the gears in ye olde brain turning.

(i've now had this sitting in drafts for a month btw LOL i forgor)
The next month I'm starting up yet another run, and at this point I'm so demoralized by my bad luck with this I'm just like, yeah okay whatever Elise again, I'm just gonna lose at Scargrounds again like always
So I'm just going through the motions with this run and being more excited about the loot I'm getting of the Empires of the Ascended event. Somehow got quite lucky through Scars and Sejuani because the ai wasn't pulling followers to play.

Like I really cannot stress how lackluster the rng through this run was, I was genuinely surprised I got through Sejuani lmao

I guess purely to spite me, this run makes it past Foundry and Guard Bots and gets to Viktor. It's.... dicey. Elise's spiders give me more fodder to keep the nexus safe but between Elise's support cards and Sarah's starting deck, I don't really have any big hitters if Viktor starts to beef up, and I was never able to pick up anything from round rewards.

The Ruination I picked up comes in an early draw and comes in handy, clearing the board. I'm in the damn trenches clutching my spiders and fighting for my life. Another Viktor comes out, I draw a second Ruination and pop it. Viktor plays a Nyandroid.
He doesn't seem to have anything else to play. With both Sarah and Elise leading the charge, I attack.

Finally, finally, after so many attempts, I was FREE. Love fucking wins. Sarah's Love Tap took out the 5/1 bot that would have killed Elise during the Guard Bots stage. These champs speedran enemies to lovers through a month of me suffering through to get my first clear. I was utterly bewildered.
So anyway thats the story of how Elise/Miss Fortune was kind of a joke and then not a joke and I have given very serious consideration as to how they could encounter one another and how that would go.
Elise Does make trips to Bilgewater btw, thanks Ruined King!

#tatz.txt#anyway im insane <3#i rushed the end of this bc i need to leave for work KJFHDHSJF#venom and gunpowder#i dont actually have a ship name but i lost this post already and need a way to find it again lmao

INTERVIEW: hololive's Nanashi Mumei Has Seen All Of Human Civilization Lead To VTubing
This article is part of our series of articles and interviews with the members of hololive English -Council-, the newest generation of VTubers under hololive English! Each of the members' interviews are accompanied by a list of their Top 10 Anime. You can read Nanashi Mumei's Top 10 Anime here, and you can see our schedule for the rest of the members below!
In August 2021, hololive English -Council- debuted its five members, destroying the universe in the process. Today we are talking to the Guardian of Civilization, Nanashi Mumei. Mumei has been tasked with recording the impact human civilization has had on the world, and chose an appearance that mimicked owls, the animal that represents wisdom. Forgetful, gentle, and kind-hearted, we had the pleasure of talking with Mumei about her experience streaming, what she feels about VTubing, and what she's learned after watching the entirety of human history.
Crunchyroll: For anyone who is still unfamiliar, can you introduce yourself, the Council, and hololive in general to our readers?
Nanashi Mumei: Oh! I am called Nanashi Mumei! I am a member of the English branch of hololive, a virtual YouTuber agency! I am the Guardian of Civilization and am a part of holoCouncil.
Can you describe the average day in the life of The Guardian of Civilization?
Mumei: I do a lot of documenting and just try to keep track of what humanity is up to. I notice a lot of patterns. When things get boring, I make guesses at what big events will repeat themselves. Sometimes I mess with civilizations a little bit, but I must make sure humanity, in general, doesn’t perish!
What about VTubing got you excited to audition for hololive?
Mumei: VTubing feels like its own world where you can have fun and goof around and be whatever you want to be. I really admired the friendships and bonds of different hololive members and generations and really wanted to be a part of something like that. Being able to do something you really enjoy with a group was super appealing to me!
What has been the most difficult thing about streaming? What about the most surprising thing?
Mumei: The most difficult thing for me was adjusting to such a large audience. It was daunting trying to comprehend how many people were watching me and I was very self-conscious for a while. I was nervous it would take me a long time to adjust, or that it would never go away. The most surprising thing was how quickly it did become easier for me and how I very rarely get nervous streaming now! I really enjoy it and don’t worry so much!
After millennia of observing and recording human history, what has surprised you most about humanity?
Mumei: Hmm … maybe how humans started out as hunter/gatherers and then started making tools, civilizations, empires, educational institutions, democracies, surviving great plagues and famine, advancing in technology, walking on the moon, and now watch anime girls play games as a source of entertainment!
What is one of your favorite memories you’ve made streaming so far?
Mumei: My first karaoke stream! I was terrified of singing in front of so many people and avoided it for a while, then decided to just rip the bandage one day and get it over with. I was shocked at how many people stuck around for it. I don’t really know how to sing and mess around a lot, and during that stream, I learned a lot of people really do enjoy it!
As someone who is terminally “forgor,” do you have any advice for me as a fellow forgetful person?
Mumei: Carry a journal with you and write stuff down!
This question is for Friend — Mumei, please cover your ears. Friend, what do you really think of Mumei?
Friend: ……………………………….. : >
Nanashi Mumei's "A New Start" MV
Since you are the embodiment of all of human civilization, what is the one most important thing you have learned from observing all of human history?
Mumei: Civilization is temporary, humanity is temporary, you are all going to die one day!
What do you think it is about VTubers that connects with people in a special way?
Mumei: I think people getting to watch and interact with virtual, out-of-this-world characters while also relating to their interests or stories is really special!
Is there anything you would like to say to your fans or fans of hololive in general?
Mumei: I wouldn’t be able to do all the amazing things I get to do now without hololive and without all of you supporting us. Thank you so much for everything so far! We have a lot to look forward to in the future still! :D
