look, riordan has made a lot of odd characterization choices for apollo and most of them really can be justified and explained by the behind the scenes backstory and post myth developments he gave to the gods and him in particular

but the one characterization I just cannot accept or see or even make sense of even in-universe, and I find just,, so incredibly ooc, is making him a frivolous oath taker

like, I can see him being an oath breaker, I can even expect him to be one given the theme of change and revolution and his relationship with zeus, but I say that fully sure he understands the weight of what he's doing. literally his thing is measuring his often lose-lose options and then making a fully conscious choice, it's why he's the foresight and knowledge and truth guy

To make him someone who doesn't understand the weight of oaths is just,, so ridiculous and out of character, even if you exclude the way it's against all his ideologies, on the most basic and mechanical level, how do you even conceptualize the god of prophecy who was also the god of song and poetry of a culture that only survived thanks to oral tradition not understanding or considering the impact permanent magic words have on the fabric of reality

huge ginormous fucking pet peeve of mine in hannigram fics is hannibal not liking will's dogs. FUCK OFF. i dare you to say to my face that hannibal could not bring himself to love anything and everything that will feels love or fondness for. anything that is touched by him or breathed by his voice. will is an extension of him and they are one in the same. his whole control obsession and ritualistic behaviors would not apply to will because his love for him both stems from and is exacerbated by his inability to control himself around him. he cannot keep up his routines and patterns with will, because his desire to be seen and understood overpowers his reason. he wouldn't care about being covered in dog hair or caked in mud or bleeding out if it was in will's namesake. will is his own personal god. he loves those fucking dogs so much, not because it comes natural to him, but because they are part of will, and therefore loved inherently

Sorry, they gave Yoo Joonghyuk, the only “male” master of breaking the sky SWORD technique a fucking gun?! I don’t care if I sound like some kinda purist. ORV shouldn’t have other adaptations. It only truly works as a written, or read aloud, story. It’s a story about written stories. It’s about the relationship between writer, reader, and protagonist.

The webtoon is as close to a decent adaptation one could hope for and it still falls short. Live action or anime will never properly adapt ORV. This isn’t one piece, they will not adequately adapt 551 chapters. How many shows last that long???

okay I've got a theory/ramble about why Aaron and Andrew's deal fell apart so much, and it's because the level of protection they were thinking about was so very different. Andrew was basically the only thing standing in between Kevin and the fucking mafia, and at no point is it implied that this was a lot to ask of him. Andrew came into this fully prepared to fight anyone with any amount of power to keep his end of the deal. Aaron most likely thought he was going to get help against Highschool bullies and being picked on. He did not expect to have to go to the ends of the earth for this

I love the idea of Luo Binghe like abdicating the protagonist role post-canon, so the System is like fuck who's our protagonist now, and it searches around before latching onto Shang Qinghua like "you're close enough" and starts giving him plot points that should've gone to Binghe. First he's the one at Mobei-Jun's ascension instead of Luo Binghe, and before he knows it he's getting dragged into border conflicts between demon clans and politics with the cultivation sects and all sorts of other plot points he remembered from PIDW that REALLY should be going to Luo Binghe, NOT HIM

And of course he raises a fuss about it, like SYSTEM!!!! HELLO!! these are protagonist plot points, he's not suited for this!!! He's supposed to be Mobei-Jun's evil little advisor and spy, not whatever this is!!! And the System is like look buddy we might have pivoted the romance part of the story from a harem drama to a BL but we still need plot things to happen and clearly Luo Binghe is too busy living in domestic bliss to bother with the plot, so it's time to step the fuck up author man, chop chop
