Sorry for no update the last couple of days. I have been working on this project and had a word count I could've updated with. However, I have both been super distracted by the new Sanrio switch game and also done a lot of reworking with basically everything new I typed out. I've gotten to the pivotal scene and while I know the sequence of events and all the information that has to be relayed here, actually finding a way to relay it in the moment on paper is... hard. Lmao. So if I had given a word count it would've been honestly only a third of words actually written and a lot of what's on paper currently is already going to be deleted and rewritten.

Generally, I tend to have pretty strict rules with myself not to edit a project while I'm writing it to keep from just giving up entirely. However, the end has been progressively getting more out of character and Kokichi was just not sounding like himself so. I sat myself down and relistened to the ch4 trial and am reworking a LOT of Kokichi’s dialogue and actions because I literally cannot progress until he's feeling like Kokichi Ouma to me again. Luckily, I'm feeling more on track with it and have also mentally fleshed out a lot of the background world stuff in the progress so!

Hoping to be done by end of week. Not in time for my birthday like I wanted, unfortunately but. Still pleased with myself nevertheless.

In the meantime, thinking I might post a couple sneak peak "files" that'll tell you all a little info about the world you'll be reading in this fic. Cuz even though I'm holding my brain down and begging it to limit the worldbuilding to just info needed to write a one shot, it literally never listens soooo. This is definitely the sort of thing that could feasibly have a decent length, multi-chapter project attached to it. However, I have zero room for anything that time consuming at the moment so all you guys will get is a quick, open-ended one shot for the time being. Because after I post this, I'm gonna have to dive straight back into the thick of writing the next chapter of Poor Unfortunate Souls because. I'm so behind schedule for that.

Something something. Making Solas a liar in Veilguard actively brings back a problem they fixed working on Inquisition.

On December 20 2019 VGS posted an interview with Trick Weekes about their work on Solas. This whole sentence is a link so its large enough for mobile but also disclaimer this is before they changed their name so deadname warning.

Here's a transcription I found here which is where i took the screenshots above. Since I know not everyone has 40 minutes to listen to an online radio interview.

I however highlighted the main point since most of you are not reading the screenshots anyway but skimming through. Rant under Read-more. Also bc i try to not be too negative on people's dashs but also i wanna ramble some more.

You can tell this happened during the game. Solas lies only once within Inquisition. He says something he can't be vague about and you push him so he lies, badly. He usually tells the truth vaguely. Typically Solas lies no more than Blackwall.

I fully believe that if in Inquisition your inquisitor figured out that Solas was Fen’harel and asked him bluntly to his face he'd confess. He might even be impressed. But why would you ever start to think that. No one assumes that their coworker is actually Poseidon regardless of how much they love the beach and ocean.

He hides in your expectations.

You can't ask him about being an ancient elf or being Fen'harel of myth because those aren't very probable. They're astronomically low to be truth within that universe. And outside, no one finished DA2 and went i wonder if one of our next companions is the Dread Wolf. Sera said, impossible things can't be surprises. He doesn't have to lie so when the truth comes out it's becomes obvious on a second playthrough.

They then actively bring back a problem they fixed in Inquisitions development. That they were open about fixing. That having a character that outright lies to you makes you have no intention of even hearing out the character. It retroactively undercuts Inquisition bc i see people trying to find Solas' lies in it when they aren't going to find any beyond the court intrigue.

It undercuts any lore we do get from Solas bc people dismiss it outright as being a lie from Mr "I abhor blood magic". I feel like shaking people's shoulders like no, dont do it.

They retconned him guys i have proof from 2019.

And its like if you hate Solas is this even satisfying? Like that's not Solas. His motivations are gone (that's a whole other post) and so is his core personality trait. It's like they went here's the Dreadwolf but during the ten years they replaced the smug asshole who was insufferably right with a 20 yo senior chihuahua that doesnt have any teeth.

My favorite villains are those that tell the truth. Because nothing hurts more than the truth. Can you imagine if he told you the truth. If he told you horrible things that you dismissed as lies to only be true. Wouldn't Varric’s death have more weight if he told you Varric was dead only for you - for everyone - to see him in the Lighthouse. If it was a spirit who took his shape to help you or even because it saw something worth reflecting in your memories.

So you dismiss him until it's revealed near the end oh he was telling the truth and you have an oh shit maybe he was right about other things but its too late to try and stop any of the truths he told you which could be from allies/companions betraying to stuff about Ghilan'nain and Elgarnan.

Like the only way to redeem Solas was to listen to him and by going out of your way to address problems he sees and you can find the alternative to tearing down the Veil by a series a little puzzle pieces throughout the game.

Have it be he will only listen to you if you listen to him. That he'll reject your other solution bc why the hell would he trust you if you couldnt extend the same.

Like Solas couldve been a great villian and he should've been great for both the haters and those that liked him. Not only the romance but for those who became his friend. Like i keep coming back to if i hated Solas would i be satisfied with Veilguard.

And the answer is no because that isnt Solas.

Tricking him has no weight bc he's an idiot in Veilguard like not even in the ending bc doesn't notice you switch the dagger around like right in front of him but none of his actions make sense. Ppl have mentioned the regret prison makes no sense for Elgarnan and Ghilan'nain bc they don't have regrets.

Attacking Solas has no weight because he literally needs the shit kicked out of him by a dragon for it to even begin to work. They literally need him to be at deaths door before its realistic that Rook could take him in a fight.

Redeem has no weight bc of the massive retcons to his motivations. They had to retcon the post credits scene bc even if Flemythal went hey i don't want you to do this Dai Solas wouldve went okay but that doesnt solve my other problems with the veil including the corruption of spirits and the fact its in literal shambles so i guess is still coming down.

I'm just disappointed. By the end of Trespasser they had a great villian and they just tossed it to the side and reverted him and people are arguing about a character who's sole defining trait in Veilguard is a problem they solved before Inquisition launched.

I just graduated college and took my capstone on propaganda. Not the just the history of it but also its evolution, how it works, and what makes the best propaganda.

With the ‘unbanning’ of tiktok and the inauguration being within a day of each other a lot of propaganda has been thrown at us. I want to share what is called “the ten rules of hate” from Matt Taibbi’s book “Hate: Inc: why today’s media makes us despise one another”, which was published in 2019.

To give some context for the ten rules, Taibbi says in this chapter (chapter two) regarding the news cycle, "after generations of doing the opposite, when unity and conformity were more profitable, now the primary product the news media sells is division."

But before I state the rules I just want to remind everyone PROPAGANDA OCCURS ON BOTH SIDES. Neither side is better than one another when it comes to propaganda, it is a necessity. I say this as a democrat who believes the next four years are going to be hell. Just today I saw propaganda from both sides, ironically fitting into these ten points.

THE TEN RULES OF HATE:

There are only two sides

The two sides are in permanent conflict

Hate people, not institutions

Everything is somebody else's fault

Nothing is everyone's faults

Root, don't think

No switching teams

The other side is literally Hitler

In the fight against Hitler, everything is permitted

Feel superior

What most people get wrong about propaganda is that its intention is not change your thought process immediately, no. The purpose of propaganda is to nudge you in a certain direction. Whether that be you seeing that trump unbanned tiktok and for a split moment you think 'maybe he isn't so bad' or seeing an instagram post from Path2Progress saying 'it's a dark day in America' and you get a tinge of fear.

I am making this post because I want you to be able to look at the media you are soaking up and be able to notice that people are trying to manipulate you. Of course, there are other points to propaganda that I did not get in here as I could write several papers on this subject, which I have.

And before anyone says in the comments, "but Trump is literally Hitler", I'm just going to point out that this cycle of calling people Hitler started long before Trump's presidency in 2016. Glenn Beck, who's a conservative commentator really began the "Your neighbor is literally Hitler" movement. In Taibbi's book he writes, "Beck was awesome at this. Al Gore was Hitler. Obama was constantly Hitler." I know must Democrats would not consider these men to be Hitler, but I use this example to demonstrate its use in years past on the other party.

I am going to leave you with a quote from one of the first books written about modern propaganda. It's called "Propaganda Techniques in the World War" and was written by Harold Laswell, then published in 1927.

“But by far the most potent role of propaganda is to mobilize the animosity of the community against the enemy, to maintain friendly relations with neutrals and allies, to arouse the neutrals against the enemy, and to break up the solid wall of the enemy.”

There was a post about how Harry is a perpetrator of violence due to him being as cop. I agree with a lot points and the fandom should definitely be aware of that

But there there was also a line of “Harry didnt give a shit about the violence he inflicted as a cop, he had a breakdown because of his dissolution of his relationship, its up to player whether or not Harry feels bad about it"

and I just....what. did we fucking forget about "I dont want to be this kind of animal anymore" ??? Him trying to fire himself?? Flushing the cop life in the toilet?? The fact that him holding a woman hostage and crippling a civilian is, in Harry's own mind, are one of the worst thing he has ever done? Player didn't choose this!!

The whole point of Harry's anguish is he literally can not quit his horribe job!! And the reason why he is so obsessed with his ex for 6 years is *because* Dora (who inspired him to be a cop in first place) had a mobility to leave him for a better life, while Harry had to stay in this "hell", and become a "monster" because of his job

It makes me really sad because YES we should acknowledge how Harry fucking sucks YES we should criticize his misogyny and racism and how he traumatized civilians. But.

People apparently really can not do that without completely missing the whole point of the character and ignore the source the material, just like the people who woobify him.

I really hate to be one to defend a cop character but replacing one's extreme (Harry is poor little innocent meow meow) with another (harry is an horrible l cop who doesnt feel bad about what he is done at all unless the player tells him to) is not actually helpful

Infinity Nikki - 1.5

Listen i know that most of you won't read this (I'm mainly a DC blog) but I'm just SO UPSET - also I have Infinity Nikki in my profile.

Context: I play a game called Infinity Nikki. It is a gacha game centred around the female demographic where you pull for outfits and instead of combat, focus on platforming in the most GORGEOUS open world i have ever played.

This current version (1.5) was meant to do a lot - introduce a major outfit which is FAMOUS in this game franchise that's completely free to craft, a dyeing system that expands the current colour options, and co-op multiplayer that lets us be more lesbian with our fellow stylists! We were also finally getting a steam release!

This was also meant to optimise the game - this game is built on Unreal Engine 5, and mobile + ps5 have been struggling to get good quality, but they've been really consistent with improving the game so far - as a tablet player, the difference is outstanding!

So yeah, everyone was HYPED, especially after 1.4 was... pretty empty.

But we can't have nice things, can we?

Bugs that make the game shitty for some, unplayable to others.

A complete retcon of the fucking story, replaced by some shitty multiverse that focused more on the LIMITED BANNER OUTFITS than the actual free major outfit of the patch (the sea of stars).

Pointless/invisible pieces added to limited banner outfits, increasing the pity to make it harder to pull outfits.

An extension of the endgame without additional rewards, despite it being the major way for free-to-play players like me earn the currency.

HEAVY MONETISATION - the dyeing system costs a new currency PER PIECE, the prices have been secretly hiked, fake sales which are INSANE and technically illegal, and as I said - more pieces to banner outfits which makes them harder to pull for.

Oh right, and the game is still UNPLAYABLE!

They even nerfed one of the new limited banner outfit abilities (y'know, the one which they made harder to collect) secretly last night, without giving any information in advance.

They've fixed some things - the endgame is reset to be twice a month again, and they're doing a lot of bug fixes, but NOTHING to help players log in, nothing to fix the god-awful story retcon. I can't fucking believe it with my own two eyes - this was the patch titled 'No More Empty Promises'!

Before anyone comes at me with 'this is just how gacha games are' -NO. I played Wuthering Waves when it released and was hell to run. I played Honkai: Star Rail for two years before I got sick of the meta. I've never seen a game, so built on player trust and care, fuck up SO BADLY.

I never thought that I'd want to quit a game so soon after it launches - but it's been a week with no major compensation except for 30 pulls before going on a five-day vacation. Which the devs deserve of course, but a horrible release date nonetheless.

There's so much more that's wrong by the way, but I just NEEDED to say something about this - I love this game, but I HATE it right now.

I thought this game was for girls. I thought this company, while still being shitty anyways, would at least make the game worth the time. I hope to god that I'm still right, and that this isn't the end of me playing it.

You know, I realized that a lot of people don't understand how critique works, so let's critique this ask! Now, first off, it might be from someone on mobile in which case statcounter isn't helpful, but if it is from someone on desktop they are most likely from a place called Belper, England, in Derbyshire, who looked at a post where I dunked on Bells Hells in the tags (if you are cool and are the person from Belper then my apologies; this is why I am not posting IP address or making fun of Belper, despite it being named Belper).

First: "if you don't like the show" - technically speaking, I was interested enough in Campaign 3 to finish it and my assessment comes from having watched the full thing and come to a conclusion that it was pretty bad. I also have very much liked Matt as a DM in past campaigns; my statements this morning based on both the ending of C3 and fireside chat revealing that this campaign was uniquely poorly planned and run. I do like over 2/3rds of what he's DM-ed. It really is Campaign 3 is bad, everything else is basically fine. Anyway I've already watched, so can't undo that, so I think your actual problem is that you don't want me talking about it. This is interesting to me, because you're not taking your own advice - if you don't like my blog, why read it? Finally, I am very annoying and pride myself on this quality; again, if this is an issue, it seems like not reading my blog would help. This also seems like a weird choice after I made a post like, specifically mentioning people who suck by name and guessing at who anon hate might be from? Like I guess I'm wondering what your goal was here. Not enough to hear from you again but you know, generally.
