what do you think of Berdly deltarune?

I like him! I think he's an interesting little guy, and I enjoy the role he fulfils in the story. He's a redditor and he sucks alot but by God is it funny to watch him be a redditor and suck alot.

There's specific parts of him as a character that I think deserve to be discussed (primarily how the character is fundamentally one with sexist beliefs) ..but alot of berdly negative I think goes too far in on the him being sexist angle (he is, but let's be real he's 15 and capable of learning. If we were supposed to think he's sexualizing noelle or susie he'd be written more overtly like burgerpants is). My own stance is that he's a play on the 'white knight' sort of 'nice guy' with the subversion that he's not actually interested in noelle romantically. But does still think he 'deserves' her. Not quite an incel but playing with those tropes.

He is weird and pushy ABOUT romance and I think that angle of the character provides an interesting dynamic with suselle (being that noelle has to learn how to stand up for herself) and the player and kris ourself since we can go directly against what kris wants by saying yes to him. He's basically the annoying team member you can't get rid of that is 'harmless' enough to not really be a threat so much as he is a device for other characters development. (Sidenote, I don't like calling his actions harmless and I'd really rather people not defend him being pushy with romance as him being autistic and not understanding social cues, he's inept sure but that sort of behavior does need to get called out and I hope there's some scene in the festival where he apologises or something.)

Of course me seeing him as more of a plot device atm doesn't mean I don't think he's a character in his own right, I enjoy the inferiority complex he's got going on and his friendship with noelle is very sweet to me. The lightnerds.. they talk vidya games togetehr... As weird as he can be he's just one of those people who you just can't spend alot of time around without wanting to strangle them. Like queen said. Nothing REALLY wrong with him, he's just annoying.

I also think there is a potential for something deeper with his character, and him being avoided because of his behavior does have potential for angst.. but I don't care for reading into it that deeply or blaming his isolation on outside factors that don't recognize the fact that berdly: is a jerk. He's an ass, he's rude, he's self-important and condescending...all of those are the reasons for people avoiding him. It's his own fault. He's that kid in high school who insults your handwriting and keeps talking to you when you're trying to ignore him. You may have a few casual conversations with him and be able to have fun on occasion courtesy of being in a small town without more options, but he still acts like he's better than you for no real reason. It's his biggest character flaw outside of the romance thing and probably my favorite thing about him. Love characters that keep fucking things up for themselves. I think the scene in chapter 4 of the library where he starts spluttering when he realizes susie doesn't want to hang out with him if he's being a jerk will be something that comes up again, if his arc continues. Ideally it'll be something like this

He keeps being pushy with noelle + susie + kris -> they ditch him -> He realizes they dont actually like him that way-> he eventually apologizes -> they hang for a bit -> he reverts to being kind of a jerk again -> they threaten to ditch him -> he realizes his error a second time and then apologizes again -> character arc fulfilled.

Not that he'd be completely fixed, he seems the sort to need multiple lessons, but I think being friends with susie would be good for him? She wouldn't put up with him like noelle does or ignore him like kris does, she'd call him out and stand on it in a way that I think would help develop him...the issue is he needs to get over his crush on her and a few(alot) more beats of self reflection before he's able to be #normal about it. Susie needs more friends too but well.. as good of a friend as she'd be for berdly being a better person I'm not so sure he'd be a very good friend to her without a lot more development. His interactions with her post realizing he can be stupid were funny but I need him to stop flirting yesterday. Idk this parts more an aside. They COULD be gamer buddies...but im unsure of it.

Anyway I should stop yapping so we can watch the actual fuckin show, but if you, SOMEHOW, for SOME FUCKIN REASON, are reading this and haven't yet watched the show, I'll say that if you think what I've described, complimented, or criticized sounds interesting you should watch the show instead of reading the rest of what I say.

I'm sure that wouldn't even work, when people say that shit I never listen, but if you're only half sold then you can either trace through the first episodes or just skip to this one. To repeat myself once more, this is where we begin to pop the fuck off.

Here's how we're doing things, right? We're gonna go one episode at a time, and I'm gonna give my thoughts whenever they come up. This is a train of thought type beat, alright? Unlike my usual grandstanding authorial and analytical self, this re-watch is purely for the rant factor. If you don't know me, and you just happened upon this thread because you like reading she-ra rewatches, hello. I'm a writer from Canada who found she-ra in 2025 and is currently on her sixth watch through. From that, hopefully you can discern that I like this show, even if I'm likely gonna criticize parts of it. We good to go? Good. We start with S01 E01.

RIGHT, THE SWORD PART 1! A zoom in, with an angelic singing being drowned out by digital bloopy fright zone vibes, and then Adora being a fuckin dweeb as her leitmotif plays in a decidedly crystiline synth-y tone.

Now, what do we learn from this? This, aside from one gripe I'll have more to speak on later, is an excellent introduction. With the music alone we're essentially taken from the beauty of the planet, the overwhelming dread of the fright zone, and then into a hopeful tune that isn't FREE from these sort of digital themes in the music, but is very defined and separate FROM them.

This isn't gonna be one of those things where I praise literally every single fuckin thing so keep your panties on, I'm not gonna full-on overanalyzing avatar this shit, but the most important parts of a story are the beginning and the ending.

Now, when I say that, I am speaking pragmatically. Every part of every story is important-- but when it comes to what people remember, what they love, what they never shut up about-- it's the start and the end. You need to nail the take-off and the landing, people will forget the turbulence from the rest of the trip.

Now, what does THIS bitch's intro tell us about her? Well, a lot, honestly. Most of what we know about Adora at this point is she plays by the rules, but she is a notably goofy person. She's goofy, but she's unwilling to goof-OFF too much.

And while we get a taste of the rivalry they have instantly, with "That's low, even for you." "You know nothing's too low for me~"

We instantly see that that is not the CORE of their relationship.

I'd like to praise the voice direction in this show for the first of many times here. The voice actors do amazing work in this, and the direction can be felt throughout.

"Come on, you look stupid hanging there" can obviously be a seen as a strange first line to show the warmth these two share, but the inflection from Catra's voice actor, AJ Mikalcha, makes it read as downright sweet.

Also don't get used to me using names of the crew besides ND Stevenson because I'm so awful with names I was still calling Catra Katara half the time on my second re-watch and I was like 90% of the way to realizing I kinned her at that point

Also don't make fun of me for kinning Catra there's no RESPONSE to people making fun of you for kinning Catra THAT DOESN'T MAKE YOU SEEM MORE LIKE FUCKING CATRA OKAY

Anyway, the following scene makes it clear that this is not a one-way dynamic. The two banter, and it's clear Adora knows how to get under Catra's skin and annoy her as well. This is notable in a few places MUCH further on, but it is a difference worth highlighting NOW.

Once Adora leaves, Catra's primary goal is still to get under her skin. She's angry about it, she's mean about it, but she's still just doing what she's always done. The relationship between the two doesn't actually change as much as the context does. I'd say the relationship itself doesn't change much until the final season, at a scene I'm sure I'll have a lot to say about.

On the flip-side, Adora's goal when it comes to Catra is simply to fight her off. But that's not all there is. At points, it's clear that Adora holds some sort of REVERENCE for Catra, and while Catra is very capable of very mean things, don't get me wrong, Adora sees Catra as more of a threat than she realistically is.

At a few moments I'll point out she also relishes in getting under Catra's skin, but admittedly those are few and far between.

People have gone over this introduction billions of times, so I won't BORE you to death with it, but Shadow weaver's introduction does hint at a lot of what we'll learn later. I think it's very notable that while Shadow weaver brings a dark gloom that encompasses both our leads, her vile tendrils only dare to touch Catra. We learn the specifics of the dynamic these three have later, but it is a very unique and terrible situation to be the least favourite of an abusive guardian. Especially if you are repeatedly reminded of that fact.

I'm not gonna go over all the body language shit I've seen other text posts about it there's plenty of them a lot of focus in this show goes into tiny details where characters are constantly reacting to the world around them, and very rarely do we get lame stretches where anyone's face is just frozen and unflinching while they listen to someone else.

with all due respect to the setting at this point in time the bright moon rebellion is so pathetically anemic it's the two teens, some movie night lesbians, an immortal princess queen, and a bunch of fucking trees.

And you'd think the one carrying the team would be THE IMMORTAL PRINCESS QUEEN, BUT NO, ITS THE FUCKING TREES DOING ALL THE GOD DAMNED WORK

This introduction is fine. I don't particularly like it, nor have any strong feelings about it. It establishes the relationship between glimmer and her mother, but besides that it doesn't honestly do much. And don't come at me with "Uh, all it needs to do is establish that relationship?" Yeah, no shit, but we just had a better introduction to our other lead characters. And yes, those are the MAIN leads, the sort of heart of the show, but that doesn't mean that the other characters are unimportant. Glimmer's development later on is truly interesting, and Bow becomes a massively inspiring character. Fun jokey times are fine or whatever to show that they're immature and don't know the first thing about war, in contrast to our full-blown child soldiers raised from birth in the fright zone, but we really don't learn anything particularly INTERESTING about our best friend squad compadres in their intro, nor do we really see any of it until episode 2, to be frank.

This is something we don't actually see much of-- Catra has this ideal of being a conqueror, but it's very clear that she doesn't want that. Her threats are vapid and aimless-- She can enjoy some chaos, sure, but a shit-stirrer isn't gonna use that feces to build brick shithouses that they never intend to fall.

I think this should have been elaborated on more, personally. Catra is comically terrible with authority, and her plan, as stated later, is to wait it out until her and Adora are the ones calling the shots. But we don't really see what she thinks conquering even looks like, and it's not clear whether that's that she hasn't even imagined it and just likes evil words, or if she genuinely wants to rule with Adora as her Queen.

I gravitate towards the first, but that's partially because I wake up and post shit like "I want to destroy the world and rule its dust" and then forget I posted it when someone likes it 5 minutes later. If she do, in fact, as studies point toward, "be just like me fr," then I fully understand. If not, then I'd like to understand.

HA! Ah, what a bitch. Anyway, she's lashing out, but it's also quite tragic. A lot of people seem to think Adora IS, in some way, a people pleaser, but in reality she just has such an ingrained and violent sense of justice that she wants to right every wrong she has ever and will ever come across. She believes her validity is tied to what she can provide to the world, and she's got a natural sense of charisma, so it's natural for someone who refuses to blend in and naturally tends to put people off like Catra to have this view of her.

In reality, Adora is just-- a good person. And people LIKE good people. She's not a good person with an asterisk-- a good person with terms and conditions-- someone who falls into the definition of a good person while feeling and being treated like something else. Catra is the "a tomato is a fruit" of good people. Adora is just, like, a 1 dollar costco hotdog of a woman. An inarguable good treading water on this earth, no matter how hard it tries to pull her under.

Imagine falling for a brat with mad hops, like a fucking 50 foot vertical, you say you're too tired to play their favourite board game and they go hang out on your neighbour's roof, couldn't be me. Get fucked I guess

Yeah this is sad. Empathy is very much a learned skill, and people who don't learn empathy don't GET happy FOR people. Catra's not a complete person yet. She's not ready to be. That doesn't happen for a really long time, during an exceptionally long manic spiral. We'll get there, calm down, don't think about how far away that is and how much I've already yammered on.

Anyway, if you find yourself getting jealous or annoyed instead of getting happy for people, consider empathy isn't what you thought it was, and that you might still need to work on yourself.

My feelings are that they are literally child soldiers who were likely raised sparring each-other.

I was raised sparring other children and I ended up fine! Not for war, for Karate. And I didn't end up fine. And neither did they. Anyway, my point isn't even specifically that because this is sci-fi fantasy it's ridiculous to hold real life standards to it, it's more-so that because it's sci-fi fantasy there's extenuating circumstances that are going to affect how these two characters treat each-other. I'll go into hotter takes later, I'm sure, and get people to send me plenty of death-threats, but I'm gonna go into the nuances of exactly what forms Catra's abuse takes, and how it differs given by the separate circumstances we're shown the two in throughout the show.

Killer + Chara reunion (doesn't end well)!

Because after Chara leaves Killer alone early/pre-story they just kinda... disappears? I know they obv abandon Killer after he doesn't come back to them, they run off... but I don't think they have the guts to cross the border of Orchard. To escape. (The threat of the Whistlers finding them escaped still feels fresh.)

Not 100% what I want them to have been doing in the meantime?? They were initially a petty thief so I *could* see them continuing down that path. Either professional thief living on the edge, or stealing from the wrong person and getting pulled into debts with the black market. They did really enjoy pushing Killer around as a "pawn" so they'd make a good small ring leader. Or perhaps they find another line of mundane profession.

Regardless, the reunion would happen After Killer's major injury from Night's kidnapping and he's back out doing normal missions (though reduced slightly, because Night and Ccino are still cautious) and him and one of the others are just doing a hunt-down of some major criminal or answering a distress call. And it's completely unrelated that Killer and Chara are in the same place.

Part of me thinks (the bigger part) that Chara is the one to approach Killer. (Holding resentment for his "betrayal", holding moral high-ground over him for not serving the new God-King, Always thinking of him as lesser, even as he's riding a beautiful steed and obviously healthy and happy doing his job.) After his job has concluded, or even during it, they waltz up and call him by first name. And citizens tend to approach them to thank them, but no one says their names. Killer is confused, turns, and stares blankly at this human for a few seconds.

He... doesn't know this person? He doesn't recognize them, until they frown at him, and begin to say sonething like, 'Too good to talk to me now, partner?' And it clicks for him that. Oh. *Oh*. Chara. Their hair is a lot longer, they let it grow out, their red eyes are hidden by too-long messy bangs. They're a lot taller than they used to be, wear newer, better clothes. But that way their mouth twists and their eyes widen when they're upset is the exact same. And frankly, he doesn't know how to react.

Killer? Killer had been so completely loved and cherished and trusted by his new family? He had so completely built himself from the ground up since leaving Chara? The Killer they knew doesn't exist anymore. Chara hasn't occurred to him to even *think* to factor into this new life of his.

The old hurt burns for a moment. Seeing them here. Now. But... it putters out as he goes to talk. Saying their name alone. With a smile, and crescent eyes. It feels like the name of a stranger on his tongue as he stares at them.

However? Whatever other knight is with him? They *know* that name. From nights when they would get wasted in the kitchen and Killer, once or twice, would break into angry, regretful, tearful stories about this human. Chara. Someone from, not just his past, but from his childhood. Before he met Nightmare, before he met any of them. And they know that Killer used to be torn up about them. This human. It *has* been years since he's done it, bring them up, but still. (Cross has at least heard a bit of the ranting, though not as dramatically as Dust + Horror heard.)

It would depend on who was there how they'd react, of course.

Cross, curious and cautious, but fiercely protective of his family? Circles right around on his horse to also stare down Chara. Asks Killer who they are (though he kinda already knows). He gives the directive over to Killer to decide what reaction he wants from Cross. He lets Killer give him the signal to either stand down or raise his guard and prepare to back him. He's heard bits and pieces of the story, so if he gets the signal, he'll go for the throat if needed.

Horror misses the name, but he knows Killer's body language and he knows Killer rarely stops for conversations when he's riding Granite (double check this name later?). He usually dismounts because it makes him seem more personable and he likes the close-proximity (makes him feel confident). So Killer staying on horseback shows him that sonething's different. He rounds Basalt in a large arc that goes unnoticed by Chara so he's behind them by a distance. In Killer's line of sight. Killer won't interfere unless he sees Killer in distress, but a few seconds in he realizes this is that human kid Killer was so torn up about. Who made him feel like shit. He has a feeling Killer won't forgive and forget.

Dust... well, Dust is his closest friend, his closest brother, Dust knows Killer like the back of his hand. When he hears Chara speak and call Killer 'partner' he knows exactly who they are. Him and Opal are beside Killer and Granite in half a second. He doesn't say anything, unlike Cross, but he watches. He is stock-still and stares at Chara like they're a bug. His storm is brewing, swirling, tye lightning *begging* to fry this human into the ground. The only thing holding him back is that Killer hasn't made any moves. He knows how important it is for Killer to confront this loser human on his own terms, he trusts Killer is better and has grown so far past this little worm, *but* if he sees any sign of Killer's discomfort? Dust will fry first ask questions later and drag their half-dead body back to the castle and lock them in the dungeon himself.

And I think that no matter who is there, having one of his brothers beside him makes him even more assured that he's grown. He's grown beyond the Killer who followed Chara's every word and always came running back. He's beyond Chara.

Best case, he listens to them attempt to berate him. Scorn him for leaving them to fend for themselves and bending to the first person who made him kneel to them. Cursing him for giving up his life of freedom to serve the same family who wanted him to kill. Them to be killed. And look at what he ended up doing, Killing just as they wanted him to back at [the temple, which I will finally name]. He just listens until they run out of breath, and they take deep frustrated gasps still just like they did when they were kids, and then he grins. It is a tight grin, not the one seen by his friends, the one his enemies see as he's about to gut them personally. Because everything they berated him for? He's been over it. A billion times in his head, worrying and worrying that it was just another situation where he was being manipulated. But his family, when he expressed worry? They helped him. Proved through word and action that he wasn't just a pawn or killing machine. They made him stop worrying over that years ago. And hearing it from Chara, his past manipulator? Yeah, it proves yet again that it was nothing but fear. Ridiculous.

My tired brain says he grins at them for a bit, before laughing and saying it was bold of them to speak their mind like that straight in front of two Knights of the King Nightmare. Just because they used to be friends, it doesn't mean they get a free pass.

That reaction, no fear and an easygoing attitude? Passes Chara off even more. They'd fearlessly try and recount the old days.

Whichhhh would reveal some really shady crimes. And statute of limitation doesn't exist yet lmao. Killer would have every right to lean down and cuff/arrest Chara. They'd try and point out he did those crimes with them, and Killer would just be like 'One of us got a pardon and the other hasn't. :)' And then assure them he'll have the King personally meet them to discuss their crimes.

Okay I'm stopping that line of thought there.

See who hurt Killer so badly in the past and to hear what motives them to do so. He knows a little from Killer. That they came from Whistling, that Nim was to have them sacrificed (*in her honor, she wasn't directly aware of every temple), and that they used him as a tool rather than a friend. Killer came to him lost and unsure of himself.

*plus* it seems Killer really has healed in his time separated from Chara. Enough-so that he doesn't even want to bother with Chara's fate. They didn't care for him, and they were never friends. Just two kids trying to survive in a kingdom which wanted them dead. They both did stupid shit and they've both grown up since they last spoke. He wants to treat it as any other case.

So Night (joined by Horror because Humans are usually physical combatants if anything goes wrong) does his usual shpeal about asking his questions and letting the prisoner ask their own or talk and rant. They go over it for a long time. Chara feels empowered by Nightmare's small stature, and so they spill more of their true nature. Nightmare? Nightmare decides to banish them from Orchard. If they're spotted within borders they were to be executed on the spot. Just like spies and other criminals who have yet to directly harm anyone.

....The fact that he has no doubt they'll return anyways and fall into the hands of a city guard who will handle them like the petty criminal they are? Well, that has nothing to do with the ruling.

A trend in Astarion fics that I find bizarre is the idea that he's never been treated gently during sex. This is difficult to believe for one simple reason: some of Astarion's victims were virgins.

Astarion: You were handsome. Shy. You'd never been kissed. Sebastian: You taught me how. And then you destroyed me.

I get the desire to make his current partner special by having their sex be good and wholesome in comparison to his other trysts, but this is a flawed sentiment. The cutscene of that first night together is incredibly tender from the kiss to laying on the grass - the only outlier being if you offer your neck - and if you sleep with Astarion but keep it at that night, Astarion himself says he will never forget you. Not because the PC was uniquely gentle with him in bed, but because they were the first person he ever slept with of his own free will. It's his choice that makes that night special to him moreso than anything the PC may or may not have done during that time.

maybe i already expressed specifically this amidst a thicket of tags but speaking of the Unexpected & Dynamic all throughout bsol's finale of a [hey all the characters are in the same place] beautiful stretch of vivacity, it's great that like. i mean one figures you're not gonna get [villain immediately kills hero] & you're right b/c that would be a surprise & slightly humorously so but too unrewarding in all other ways to be worth it as the end of a whole entire story & arcs here....but then the ways that banana has this like totally Self Imposed arc about wanting to be able to do whatever it takes to help the musician in return / in general, self imposed b/c the musician himself is like no you're good you're perfect my special little guy i will die without, & we're not exactly subject to any other characters' input like um btw banana you & your Failure to be as heroically bold & brave as to do whatever it takes, as the musician does, except when he feels he can't at some points including if he doesn't have banana with him on this journey, but not b/c he asks anything more of him but to be there with him on this journey....

I hate my brain becoming filled with other au ideas but for some reason the idea of a getter swap au came to me but in a more interesting way: instead of entire role and personality swaps, the characters are the same as they are but being swapped into which part of the getter they pilot causes them to take on the roles in the narrative that the parts of the getter usually end up leading to.

Whoever pilots getter 1 is doomed to become emperor, whoever pilots getter 2 is the one who’s left behind and whoever pilots getter 3 is the one to be sacrificed.

I’m mainly thinking about this regarding OG team-though of the 3 arc is the only one I wouldn’t swap pilots cause their roles seem SET and stone, given the legacy stuff but go team could be played around with-even if there’s the can of worms of “Musashi and Benkei” since the other was made just so one could exist so MAYBE I would keep the aspect of Musashi still dies and Benkei has to take over regardless of who’s he’s swapped with but I plan to rotate each boy in a different position.

I might have said it before but I do like how in Pokémon Horizons Ikue Ohtani isn't just playing Pikachu with a hat on. Captain Pikachu has a distinct voice with gruffer tones than OG Pikachu, and it's generally more serious and less playful. Captain Pikachu doesn't fuck around.
