!!! DESIGN A STORY CHARACTER CONTEST !!!

Finally, it’s here! To celebrate 400 PLUS followers now, I’m hosting a WOF design challenge/contest! Your mission is to design a character that’s going to appear in TBoFS 2. The character is already decided, and you’ll be given information/prompts to design them. First place winner will have their design be the official design for the character, and anyone who doesn’t win can keep theirs! So keep in mind that if you win, I’ll be the ‘owner’ of your design and the character.

!!! GENERAL INFO !!!

- 1ST PLACE PRIZE: Your design will be the official design in the story! You also get a free dumb doodle from me of any OC (or character) you want.

- 2ND PLACE + 3RD PLACE: You’ll each receive a doodle, as well as being featured as winners when they’re announced! Of course!

- Anyone else who submits a design will get honorable mentions, and your design will be linked when winners are announced.

- Very little artistic bias is involved. Not being able to ‘draw well’ isn’t an issue, as long as you have good ideas and a good imagination!

- DESIGNS ARE DUE BY [ Friday, December 20th ] !!! I’ll have results by December 25th!

- I’ll personally be picking the top 3, then put a poll up that lasts for 1 DAY. This will determine the winners.

!!! DESIGN INFO !!! finally the fun stuff

- The character is a PURE NIGHTWING.

- I prefer to stick to MOSTLY canon color choices, but some deviation from this is welcome! Ask if you aren’t sure, but feel free to look at the character designs in my TBoFS Toyhouse folder. That should give a good idea.

- Adding accessories and even little headcanons for the character are fully welcomed and encouraged (keeping in mind that some headcanons may not end up to be true, lol!)

- Name ideas are welcome, too!

- YOUR GENERAL PROMPT IS: a snobby, intelligent, standoffish Nightwing who does not believe in animus magic as it exists.

- Keeping my prompt pretty vague so you can have fun! The best designs (to me) are ones that’re recognizable. Not necessarily jam packed with accessories and colors and stuff… just recognizable.

- Your designs may be sketched, lined, etc, but my main requirements are that it’s at least a fullbody + colored. You CAN add more visuals to the design if you want (front face view, mouth view, paws, wing view, etc etc). It does NOT have to be digital!

LORE DUMP‼️‼️ Buckle up losers, I’ve got a new WoF AU and OCs to boot. Welcome to my shitty dragon crime drama.

It currently doesn’t have a title or anything, it just exists. Here’s the deets:

1. This story takes place several decades after Arc 3. A lot of canon characters still exist, meaning I’ll be referencing them and what they’ve become. Eventually I might develop this into a whole future AU, and write all the alliances and everything, but for now I’ll just mention some key players.

2. These characters live in a city called Unity. In A Guide to the Dragon World, Anemone mentioned wanting to build an intertribal city for MudWings, SeaWings and RainWings. Well, guess what! She did, and that’s Unity. Unfortunately, it’s hard to make dragons to get along, especially when generational wounds linger from the War of SandWing Succession. To make matters more complicated, many Pantalan dragons have settled in Unity, bringing with them unfamiliar ideas and abilities.

3. To outsiders, Unity is a gleaming beacon of hope for intertribal cooperation. Most visitors don’t stay long enough to witness anything more. Residents live in an entirely different world. Unity is ruled by multiple factions, known colloquially as Hordes. Hordes control anything and everything they can get their claws on. Some Hordes, inspired by the Outclaws of the Scorpion Den, try to maintain justice within Unity. Most exist to amass wealth and power.

4. Hordes may be intertribal or tribe-specific. Even those exclusive to one tribe may call upon agents from another for their unique abilities. Alliances are constantly shifting, and if you gain a reputation with the Hordes, it’s best that you make yourself forgettable—or risk getting swept up in their plans.

AND NOW FOR OUR CAST:

Iridescence is a sly RainWing-SilkWing hybrid living in the city of Unity. Her striking colors make her stand out in any crowd, but more striking is her reputation. She is notoriously clever, conniving, and coy, using her delicate appearance to lull others into a false sense of security. She primarily trades Pantalan imports, but under cover of night, she deals in more…sinister goods. Poisons are her specialty. With the help of Kudzu, her leafspeaking assistant, she cultivates dozens of toxic plants to use in her concoctions.

Kudzu is a reserved, cynical LeafWing. He hails from a small group of LeafWings who, resenting Queen Sequoia’s push for peace, left Pantala in pursuit of isolation. To avoid his parents’ preaching about Pantalan politics, he spent most of time studying the flora and fauna of Pyrrhia. He would later move to Unity, where he studied under a SeaWing doctor and eventually opened his own practice. Soon after, he began working with Iridescence, helping her make poisons in exchange for funding his studies. His true passion is medicine.

Salamander is a timid, quiet MudWing. MudWing troops are a common sight in Unity, but nobody knows which she hails from. Salamander prefers to keep it that way. Her Bigwings, Caiman, is one of Unity’s deadliest Horde bosses. Salamander is rarely involved with her sibs’ crimes—they consider her much too anxious to bring along—except when they need her fireproof scales. As of late, Salamander has been spending more time in Caiman’s neighborhood, raising suspicions about her loyalties. Fortunately, she has an alibi. Rumor has it that Caiman has developed smokesickness, a rare and potentially fatal disease. As one of Unity’s mail carriers, it’s simply Salamander’s job to deliver her medicine.

Few small changes coming

Hey guys. I know I’ve been on a long hiatus. I mean a LOOOOOOONG hiatus, for posting fics when they’re usually weekly updates, for drawing, for OC requests, for canon art, everything. So here’s the thing: school just cut out for the holidays, but the next couple terms are going to be a fucking nightmare. I mean an *absolute shitshow*.

I have tests, I have people problems, I have no free time, and I have to get my shit together by exam season.

SO WE ARE MAKING CHANGES. WE ARE NOT GOING UNDER. I will fight to keep this blog alive. I will FISTFIGHT GOD to keep y’all updated.

So I’ve been falling behind on drawing dragons a little. I won’t be taking fic requests anymore, and the ones I’m doing already will be on a less reliable schedule. BUT I LEARNED TO DRAW PEOPLE!! If you want to see more people drawn, lmk and I’ll do that!

I’m also thinking of branching out and drawing more than just WoF stuff! Maybe other kinds of OCs in general!

Paramic (They/Them)

Paramic is (was?)(hard to tell if they're alive or dead) a self-made animus who was initially an excited, overzealous student at Sanctuary'a academy. One day when out surveying the landscape nearby the Deltra Spray River, they found a pair of claw caps that were animus chanted to tear a hole in reality and allow them to pass through. Paramic, who's always been fascinated by the concept of alternate universes, explores them. Things then spiral. Badly. Very badly. Now they're in a weird paradox/time loop thing and it's not too fun. They're still a good dragon though!

Navigation (He/They)

Navigation is kinda currently in a weird limbo area in the story and I kinda wanna revisit him sometime to try and give him an actual story. The only real thing that matters is that he's an adopted animus dragon who literally doesn't give two shits about whether his actions are good or not (whereas Paramic keeps trying to convince themselves that it's alright). Navigation is just a bastard and I love him a little

Miasma (She/They/It)

Miasma is dead and is mostly just cursed to wander the Forgotten City of Night forever as an aimless spirit and only really exist when some poor sap comes along and dies in her general area. Her current body belongs to a HiveWing who tried fleeing to the land where Clearsight came from (Pyrrhia) and only managed to get a bit father than the shore of the peninsula for Miasma to Get 'Em. They don't remember anything really. They're a mash of both OG Miasma who existed 2000 years ago and the HiveWing. They got a pet snake named Talus too

Marlin (She/Her)

Marlin is different in the way she's technically a canon character. She's my interpretation for Albatross' wife. Albatross and Marlin got married, but due to Albatross being aromantic it felt a bit...off. Marlin didn't pay it any attention and was content being pretty friendly with him though. Marlin is a dragon from a pretty low ranking house and she was arranged to marry him because her parents told Queen Lagoon that their family were more capable of producing animus dragos (and also paid a good fortune). Marlin's just a sweetheart...

The Thorns and Roses Gang

So, my first ever actual longfic was an OC fic about these three (though mainly candy cane there in the middle). Lemme go through them all. Idk how well Thorns and Roses holds up, but I think it's a half-decent fic if you're into OC stuff ig. It's not big on plot and is mainly about Radiant trying to better herself while the events of Arc 3 happen around her and her friends

Radiant (She/Her)

Ah ol' Radiant. Shit childhood. Horrible one. She grew up in Wasp Hive in an academy as an orphan. This was because her parents were flamesilk revolutionists, who had their egg confiscated when they were executed. Radiant was abused pretty horribly and it shaped her perception of the world drastically. She believes herself to be inherently unlovable so she acts rude, crass, sarcastic, etc etc. She does get a nice friend group by the end and betters herself just a bit, becoming content with life and a bit happier at the end

Locust (He/Him)

Locust is a duke of Hornet Hive and his family is notorious for both their prestige and status, but also their colour. The LeafWing-HiveWings and all. Locust was living at Hornet Hive all alone and wanted a friend, but also had a bit of a savior complex and when he saw Radiant he wanted to help her out so bad. He hired Radiant as a "servant", when really it was like getting a roommate. By the end they become a lot closer and are nice friends, with Radiant going from literally hating him with every fiber of her being to then go chasing after him into a battlefield

Adonis (She/Her)

Adonis was a servant of Locust's parents and lived in Mantis Hive. She's generally a pretty bubbly and preppy individual, though one who's been led to believe in the abusive values of the HiveWing oppressors. Through the help of Radiant (where they meet each other eventually) she unlearns these ideas and begins to live her life freely. She's just a silly friend :] Love her

Tide (He/Him)

This guy (+ a couple others who I like and call the Scorpion Den gang) shows up in TAR as well. Tide is an ex-prince of the SeaWings, who just got sick of Coral's shit, ran away, and nearly died in the desert before stumbling upon the bar belonging to his now-girlfriend. He's laid-back and generally a sorta "whatever" guy, but he will put down his talons if stuff is going down

Granddaughter is an OC! One of my first, in fact!

Her name is Sapphire, accidentally sharing the name of Albatross's sister

My first iteration of her was an Animus princess that had universe-jumping abilities/discovered that her magic went beyond the reaches of her reality (Had this idea so that she could be an OC in any fandom/become a sona). This idea was probably when I was roughly 10-11. She was childish and stubborn.

In this iteration she discovered that she could "teleport" during the Seawing Massacre, wishing that she was anywhere safe as a knife sent by Albatross was stabbing her in the face (it didn't go very deep)

She looked something like this afterwards (I never made a reference :/):

As I used her more often I realized that I had no idea what her personality was and how she dealt with her abilities

I then decided that she eventually became cold and manipulative, treating the inhabitants in each universe as playthings, seeing how things turned out if she did this or that a specific way, before getting bored and moving on.

This version of Sapphire kind of disappeared when I started working on developing a Wings of Fire/Hunger Games-esque AU called the Flare Trials, where dragons in districts had their wings removed at hatching so as to leave them less able to revolt and fight the winged dragons of the Capitol. Tributes and the Games were initially developed as a means to both entertain dragons in the Capitol and incite fear and hopelessness in district dragons in watching young dragons fight to the death without any opportunity for a dragonet to survive. Eventually it was amended so that one district of dragonets could "win" and be granted wings and fame. Sapphire came in because she was the protagonist and won. Almost every other WoF OC I have came from this AU

Animus "Canon" Sapphire and weak Flare Trials Sapphire kind of merged for a while, but when I stopped working on the AU Animus Sapphire became separate again, though I didn't do anything with her until pretty much just now bc I fell into a Harry Potter phase (oof) and then into the OMORI phase I'm in now.

As I drew the doodle with Albatross today I had a thought of a version of Sapphire that could possibly be more solid? Sapphire looked up to Albatross heavily, aspiring to be just like him and was unwaveringly supportive and loyal to him. Albatross eventually opened up to Sapphire about how he was treated, confiding in her about how he is unappreciated and generally abused by his family (Queen Lagoon). Sapphire responded with righteous anger towards her grandmother, insisting that Albatross shouldn't let everyone bully him anymore. This inadvertently leads to the massacre. Sometime in between, however, Albatross, planning out the massacre, gives Sapphire Animus magic mostly experimentally, intending for her to help in the massacre and to aid in killing her brother (Fathom), Albatross's replacement (threat). Unfortunately for him, Sapphire is horrified by his plan and refuses to go along with his commands during the massacre, trying to dissuade Albatross before eventually fleeing after he lost patience with her and sent a knife flying into her face as she commanded her crown to keep her alive as fast as she could, though she still ended up scarred after her brush with death. Afterwards, she lived undercover, the crown she bore keeping her alive indefinitely. I don't have much else of an idea right now but uhh Darkstalker sized Seawing that is old as dirt and wrinkly 😁

(circutypes are identitie(s?) similar to the label cladotherian or more so ambitherian, but instead of being exclusive to types of animals is a species, it extends beyond that. The creator @batsbolts-andfangs created it to describe being a bat therian, bat plushiekin and a bat (related?) fictional character. But basically it's a label to describe one nonhuman identity that extends to/ is made up of other nonhuman identities that are a interconnected. This label fits me two times

I wanted to have a series of posts where people can find all of my characters in one place! Since I have too many to fit them all into one post, I decided to split them up based on how much I use them/how developed they are, the same way they're split up on my Toyhouse.

I wanted to have their refs here so people can find them relatively easily and not have to go digging through their Toyhouse galleries to find them lol. If anyone ever wants to draw them, you are very much encouraged to do so!! Same goes for asks about my characters! Those are always welcome as well!!

TERTIARY OCS

These characters are the ones I tend to use the most infrequently. They generally don't have a huge amount of developed character or information, but there is still some there. A few have interactions with my other Wings of Fire OCs (again, much like my secondaries, these are all WoF based characters) but not all of them do. I do still value them to some degree, hence why I keep them around, but they generally just sorta do their own thing haha

Lives in the forest and has a lot of knowledge about herbs and plants and stuff

( Seawing Variation Headcanon 2/4 ) Coastal/Tropical Seawings

Coastal Seawings are Seawings seen as the “average Seawing” by the other tribes. Coastal Seawings typically live around the shorelines, Summer Palace and Island Palace. They still frequently go underwater but spend more time in tropical shallow waters and at a point where light reaches through the water. Coastal Seawings have larger bodies, softer facial features and larger wings. They have shorter fins and wider eyes. Their colors are typically brighter and more vibrant like tropical fish, pinks, lighter or brighter purples, lighter or brighter blues and greens and even yellows are quite common among Coastal or Tropical Seawings. Coastal Seawings also tend to have a harder time adjusting to the deep sea and are uncomfortable in deep waters for their first few days there. Generally, Coastal Seawings are stereotyped as being vain and egotistical by other Seawing variations, this stereotype was formed due to their bright and colorful scales often, which has resulted in many Coastal Seawings doing very artistic jobs, notably fashion design or jewelers. In terms of culture, Coastal Seawings don’t really have a large culture, they tend to keep to themselves and stay spread out, however there are a few main aspects to their culture that they all share. Generally Coastal Seawings like naming their dragonets after tropical fish, colorful things and even things outside of Seawing naming convention or colorful things found on the shoreline. One great example of this was Queen Summer, a coastal Seawing thousands of years ago who campaigned for the Summer Palace and was the one who finally had it built. Coastal Seawings also love cooking and preparing their food, they do eat it raw occasionally but they much prefer things like fish soup, cooked salmon and other kinds of cooked sea creatures. This is mainly because the non-Seawing population of the Sea kingdom lives on the coast and would often serve hot food which is why Coastal Seawings have incorporated it into their own tastebuds. Another fun fact is that generally, Coastal Seawings refuse to eat Whales, Dolphins, Orcas, Sharks and Porpoises due to their resemblance to Seawings and it���s considered very taboo even though Shark Fin soup is popular among the non-Seawing population of the Sea Kingdom. Another fun fact, although the Seawing Royal Family used to only be Deepsea Seawings, recently they have allowed their princets and heirs ( using gender neutral version of prince and princess to lump together princes and princets here! ) to marry any kind of Seawing as long as they aren’t Freshwater Seawings and the Queen approves. This is why, right now the majority of the royal family is Coastal Seawings.

🦑 - Favorite Tribe? What’s your opinion on that Tribes’ queen?

It has to be SeaWings :'D I've always loved the ocean and aquatic dragons, and I really love my own design for the SeaWings that I've become very attached to. The vague Atlantis vibes and their very artisanal culture speaks to my aesthetics, and I like that they don't have any sort of breath ability but keep up with the other tribes in terms of how they hanble a fight by just being super meaty! My first WoF OC was a SeaWing, and they're definitely my favorite tribe to draw. I've done a lot of my own thinking on them, in a parallel WoF headworld I have so they have a very special place in my heart!

As for my opinions on Coral, I like her quite a bit as a more polarizing queen than the others. Her being the first queen we meet after Scarlet, we want her to be everything Scarlet isn't and everything Tsunami wants her to be, and when we initially meet her and she seems like the perfect queen and mother, I thought that's what she would be, but then the more time we spend with her the more the cracks begin to show and we see her for more of who she really is and I like that a lot. Being Tsunami's mother I wanted her to be the pinnacle of the loving mother and benevolent gracious queen because I love Tsunami and I wanted that for her, unfortunately that ended up not being the case but Coral is far from evil as well. There are things about Coral that frustrate me, but some of them stem from things about the general world culture that frustrate me. I also am very intrigued by the idea that she was potentially teetering on the edges of going completely mad with grief over the losses of her daughters and that's still something sitting somewhere deep in her brain as something she never- and probably will never, recover from. My favorite moment with her is of course the heart to heart she shares with Turtle in Talons of Power, where she gives him closure for what happened between him and his father, and how Gill felt terrible for how harsh he'd been on Turtle over a situation Turtle had no control over and just never had the opportunity to tell him before his death.

I know even within the fandom Coral garners very strong opinions, but that's another thing I like about her. She genuinely unsettles me in a way none of the other Queens or even any of the actual villains have. I love her softer moments like the aforementioned moment with Turtle, but they are then coupled with the instances of her violent tendencies where I genuinely cannot predict what she'll do or how she'll react to things. Like when she threatens to kill Tsunami: her long lost daughter whom she wrote and entire story for in the hopes she'll find it and find her way home, whom she just reunited with, if Tsunami failed to protect Auklet's egg. Or how quick she is to kill subjects who fail her and the ease with with she talks about it. It would always make me slightly nervous of her, which is something I actually like. I am by no means excusing or trying to justify her actions, I just really love how complicated she is and how she genuinely unsettles me at times to read about. I always find characters like that really interesting~

The the pink color is actually no longer available since they removed all of the bright colors for Skywings </3 actually messed up the gradient on his tail and back then they didnt have the ability to cancel editing short of just quitting the game. rip

the name Firecracker came from some random name generator site but! fireworks are still canon, and most likely used primarily by Skywings [in Escaping Peril, Peril was described to fly “as fast as a firework”]

he uses a sort of wheelchair-like device as back leg is too weak to support his body, while his arm has been replaced with a prosthetic made of wood and metal. His leg rests on a platform supported by two wheels that are attached to the rest of his body by beams of wood, allowing him to move without having to limp.

All of my ocs stories begin before or take place long after the Sandwing succession war. In Firecrackers case, he was born a little after Queen Ruby took the throne. The whole “breeding program” was abolished, so Skywings were able to pair with whomever they wanted, including those with the firescales gene. They were still incredibly rare, and monitored heavily, but they- and their fireless twins- are still taken care of; the firescales being taught how to control their limbs to avoid setting things on fire, while their siblings, who are usually sicklier due to the lack of fire to keep them warm, are taken care of until they are old enough to regulate their body temperature.

Firecracker was born around this time, and as they grew older, he developed a sort of love for the modified bombs the Skywings made- Fireworks, he had learned they were called-, sending them into the air before they exploded into color. Celebrations and parties became a lot more common after the war- one of the most popular and well known being the Festival of the Sun, when the nights grew short and the days grew long, a day where the Skywings would celebrate the sky and the sun and the fire it would gift them.

When Firecracker was old enough, he took up a volunteering job to assist with the fireworks, buying them from the local venders that specialized in the craft, setting them up in the correct positions, making sure everything was in check and safe. He would continue volunteering for a while, until one day, something went wrong. One of the fireworks, wether by accident or purpose, had been knocked over, pointed at where Firecracker was standing. The wrong place, the wrong time. By the time he noticed, it was too late; they had already been lit, and he was too slow to be able to run as firework came rocketing towards him.

It would hit him in the arm first, before engulfing the entire side of his body in a colorful explosion, burning at his scales and setting his wing ablaze. By the time he had been put out, the damage had already been done, irreversibly. While his eye was mercifully spared, he had lost more than it could count for; his wing burnt to threads, his arm shriveled and twisted into a husk, his leg charred and no doubt never to be used again.

Nowadays, Firecracker lives out his life as a gentle old dragon who teaches those who are curious how to be safe around fire-based dangers, if not without a little demonstration here and there. He still goes to the festivals and celebrations when he can, not wanting to let his injuries hold him back from enjoying life.

Even now, he enjoys watching the fireworks.

I decided I wanted to do a dumb experiment where I use tumblr polls to make a WOF (I messed up the first poll, it was supposed to say “WOF OC” but we are keeping it). Once it is finished, they will be free to use by anyone in the community.

This poll will decide where the “significant scar(s)” are that where chosen in the last poll. So far it has been decided the OC will be a Mud/Nightwing who can blend into shadows, breathe fire at high temps turns, and has fireproof scales. The OC will also be fairly large and very chunky, with lot of fur, big tusks, and frills, with minimal spikes and horns. Their body will be a dark grey; their eyes heterochromatic with on being red and the other purple. They will also have blotchy patterns and Nightwing sparklies. It has also been decided that they will wear jewelry, have an extra limb/other bodily feature, and some sort of additional accessory. Winner is feature unless two or more of them get above 20%.

Also the round of polls next week might be the final poll (it will be name related), unless I want to do stuff related to personality or if I just want to let people figure it out by themselves

now as for how it’s changed over time ... i actually came up with designs for them before starting the playthrough i’m using them for so like. they were originally my interpretation of the default player character and i kinda thought they like. switched between masc and fem presenting but i kinda got attached to the fem presenting versions of them and kinda? used that for flynn i guess? idk i don’t really know how to explain it buuut yeah lol

they used to have a look that was like their post wof design but they wore a suit instead of the plain shirt but then i thought it wouldn’t make sense for them to dress that way story-wise so i scrapped it and tried to lean more into the “i’m too tired and emotionally unwell to fight monsters rn can i go home” vibe or whatever... but i did keep the goggles :]
