Based on what we know about Felix - how he canonically favors romantic songs and movies - I think that he's someone who really wants a typical and lovely romance and wants to be in love but he just sort of lacks the ability to attain it, being self centered and someone Martin has described as neglectful. I think he's really repressed and out of touch with his emotions, likely one of the many reasons he falls into alcoholism

~Let's talk about credit~

(not financial credit trust me you don't want to take financial advice from me lol)

No, today I am inviting y'all to the table to talk about the importance of crediting other creators in fandom!

Because, listen. We don't have a peer-review system. We don't have to submit our stuff to a plagiarism checker or go through stringent editing when shitposting on tumblr; we operate in an honor system of crafting folklore using our favorite blorbos, and that means that inspiration and using the specific words and images from canon creates a grey area on what ought to be credited, and how to do it in a way that creates a solid, strong community.

Here's a little of my philosophy and how I give proper credit where it's due, so I figured I'd share them to hopefully encourage others in making sure no one out there ends up becoming fandom's James Somerton

1. Links are your friends, use them enthusiastically

Drooled over a gifset that made you write a poem? Read a fic that made you pull out your embroidery hoop? Saw some art that made you write a song? Link to the original! Tag the original artist, hyperlink to the giffer, share the fic via the amazing shortcut button on Ao3, it's what those creators deserve! Even if it's a shitpost, that creator is where your idea started, and it's the right thing to do to share directly where your audience can connect with the person who inspired you.

This holds INFINITELY true if you are directly quoting someone. If you've used someone else's words to create your own work, link back to the original. No one wants to be sent a fic or a funny post on tumblr and then feel the sinking pit in their stomach when they realize that post is their own words with someone else's name on them.

2. Ask for permission when you can

Now, the reason I threw the addendum on this with "when you can" is because knowing when to ask for permission is more of an art versus a science. I myself have written more than one fic inspired by art where I didn't reach out to the artist before I shared the fic because I had no contact with them (the joys of me refusing to touch the garbage that is the bird site). BUT this is why point number one is to always link back to the original inspiration, because I believe that should always be the bare minimum.

THAT BEING SAID.

If you have a way of contacting the original fellow fandom person who inspired you? Reach out and ask them if they'd feel comfortable with you creating something! 999 times out of 1000, they're gonna be over the MOON you want to create something inspired by what they made, and they'll be really fucking pleased you reached out to check.

3. Ask yourself: is this a "two cakes" situation or am I putting my name on someone else's cake?

This is another one that can absolutely fall into a bit of a grey area. I have written many a fic that started out with me reading a take or a fic that went in a WILDLY different direction from what I was expecting or wanted, and I went "okay, fuck it. I'll write my own." And that's absolutely been a great motivator for me to start a project!

HOWEVER.

That is me creating a different flavor of cake, putting my own frosting on it, and probably adding something weird like lemon zest and instant coffee for a lemonade cappucino chiffon that shouldn't work (but definitely does, trust me)

If I were to have read a fic or a take and then gone, "Oh, yeah, definintely, here's the same idea but now I've rephrased it juuust a little and now it's under MY username on my blog".... that's slapping a different color of frosting on the same cake and claiming it's mine. If you find yourself doing that, I really invite you to pause and consider why you felt the need to do so instead of sharing the original post.

Like, not to bring Shakespeare into it (they say, poorly concealing their icon), but fandom can be exactly like how Juliet views love. Sharing joy in what others have created absolutely can be as "boundless as the sea [...] the more I give [...], the more I have, for both are infinite". It does not take away from the joy your fellow fandom friends will have in your own original work to share the work of others.

4. Hyping up your inspiration is FUN

Finally, this is more of me going "no really, proper credit isn't going to mean people love YOU less" because I truly believe in the power of how much FUN it really is to give credit where it's due. I was buzzing for WEEKS in anticipation of publishing Objection! and The 'I Duoy' Newlywed Special because the marvelous @jackuntiljune had brainstromed with me on the name for the boat my boys eloped on. And I get so fucking giddy when I see someone comment on those fics about the name of the boat because I get to take a giant breath and go "MY FRIEND JACK CAME UP WITH IT, AREN'T THEY AMAZING?!"

If you practice giving credit where it's due, I promise promise PROMISE it will become a joy. It's FUN getting to bring more people into the sandbox to play, and I know I love it when there's more than one person out there I can yell at (affectionate) when I've been emotionally destroyed (again, affectionate) by a gifset or art or fic <3

My friend's favorite, the blorbo by proxy - technically Eggman is in my top 3 favorites now, but I was originally neutral on him until blogs like Crusher's and Julian's showed me how awesome he really was :D

Everyone else is wrong about him - (slams fist on desk) he says 3 TIMES IN SA2 THAT HIS MOTIVE IS WORLD DOMINATION, WHERE ARE YOU GETTING "AVENGE GERALD" FROM

Canon isn't real - I'd rather believe NANANA is just a fever dream, as well as some other Egg Memos. (also finding it difficult to wrap my head around the fact that Ivo and Maria are related via two sons rather than a son, Ivo's father, and a daughter, Maria's mother. idk man that just doesn't seem right)

That's a solid design right there - and yet, drawing the goggles trips me up every time ;A;

They are So Silly - he funny and scawy :3c

Bastard - Eggmanland is so traumatizing that it gives players 'nam flashbacks. And that's just a taste of what he wants to turn the world into. Noice.

Starline:

I am so normal about them - if my recent posts have been any indication, it's that Simpline lives on in my heart. also the fact that he's still my AO3 avatar :B I want their gender - I wish my fashion sense was as immaculate as Starline's

Everyone else is wrong about them - he was better as an eggsimp. he needs someone more dominant to play off of. he's not a strong enough character to run the show by himself. not to mention, "Toothpaste Snively" is funny xP

Fandom is so mean smh - is it just me, or did fandom collectively decide to dunk him in the trash when Flynn did? Saying he "deserved it" and everything? Yes, he was a scumbag, but did even he deserve a gruesome death following a mental breakdown and for his life to be summed up as "big oof"? It just feels... meanspirited.

Canon isn't real if I don't look at it - Starline didn't die after breaking up with Eggman. He just went cray-cray for a while after Eggman betrayed him and he wound up crawling back to his ex, Bordeaux :)

That's a solid design right there - probably the only one that's halfway decent out of the IDW-exclusive cast lol

They didn't get bullied enough - he needs to be ground under Bordeaux's stiletto :D

Squeak - his windpipe certainly squeaks when Eggman uses him as a stress ball it's fun putting him through humiliating situations. Starline degradation kink is 100000% canon. I bet the director's cut of IDW had a deleted scene where he served as Eggman's footstool

Bastard - not nearly enough to surpass Eggman's villainy, mind you - does he even have a body count? lol. lmao, even. rofl, if you will - but I have to admit kidnapping kids and brainwashing them is prooooobably not all that ethical xP

If anything happens to them I will cry - yeah I was sad when he bit the dust. what about it

Hey tumbleeesss how you tumbling, it’s time for your randomly dished out dose of my silly little art!

Ok so, this time I did a little bit of a challenge, I saw this on Drawfee. I’m sure you know who they are but if you don’t they’re this art challenge channel with great, lovely personalities they all seem really cool and not to brag but Jacob once liked my art on Twitter, I know, I know, I’m so cool but anyways.

The main gist of this challenge is:

You roll your music playlist, the first song is one character. You roll it again and the second song is a second character. AND THEN, THE 3RD SONG IS THEIR RELATIONSHIP. This can be platonic, romantic, indifferent etc etc but it’s so fun!

So this is what I rolled:

1: Clown by Updog

2: The Fall by Lovejoy

3: Tranz by Gorillaz

I had to figure out what all of these very different songs meant, how to turn them into characters, and how those characters/relationship look/feel like.

Clown is about this guy calling out this other obviously pretentious guy. So I started to think, who would call someone out no matter what, who would know so much about someone to be able to do that. Maybe a childhood friend? But that doesn’t give me a lot to work with. I’d watched a Monster Camp playthrough recently, the guy in it romanced the death reaper, so THAT got me thinking. I ended up settling on this clown (get it? Like the song name) demon who takes souls to the afterlife via travelling through their whole lives with them.

There’s the character designnnnn I love it it’s so cute yet menacing, NOW ONWARD TO THE FALL.

The fall was a bit more easier as I’d started to imagine it as a character before. It mainly helped with the colours but it also helped with the current falls “origins”. Tw for abuse for this next section, I’ll put it in red and make it small so you can skip it. So my idea for the fall was an abused person going on a roadtrip to nostalgic places as a break from their current toxic relationship. The nostalgic road trip backfires though and just reignites disgusted and angry feelings towards their parents due to y’know the abuse. So it’s safe to say the fall’s a very unlucky human being, THEY DESERVE BETTER. In my mind the song’s from their point of view addressing to herself as “we” sometimes to give her a better more authoritative and decisive look on things when it is necessary to her well-being. I made them look like this!

What if part of Mumbo jumbo became apart of the rift? The mumbo moustache was consumed and the Jumbo was taken over the process of a month.
