This is, uh, from that Emmlich x Rook creepy one-shot I'm sort of playing around with whenever I feel like it lol. Still trying to work out the intricacies of lich sex (what a weird thing to write lmfao) because while it may not be 100% my thing, I think it's important to address the change in intimacy. But while I think that through, here's whatever this is.

Not all moments are beautiful.

Once, she wakes in the ink-black hours of night, disoriented, floating somewhere between dream and memory. Her hand reaches out instinctively, searching for him, because surely, he must be there. Shouldn't he always be there? That’s what lovers do when they share a bed. They remain.

And yes, he is there. He is always there. Emmrich does not sleep; he merely keeps her company through the hours when she drifts and he does not. But her mind is thick with the fog of waking, her thoughts unwritten, and in that brief, horrible moment, she forgets. Everything. The color of her hair. The sound of her name. And him—him most of all. She turns her head, and her eyes catch on his face, his real face, in its eternal, grotesque stillness. And she screams.

She flings herself away, blind with panic, and chaos follows her. Her temple cracks against the nightstand; the edge of the floor kisses her forehead; her nose blooms with pain as it meets the ground. A wetness spreads across her face, metallic and hot, and she tastes it—the blood—before she understands anything else. It coats her lips, slides over her teeth, drips slow and thick down her chin.

Somewhere above her, his voice unfurls, trembling at the edges, full of apologies that she feels she does not deserve. “Oh, dearest... Hush now, it’s all right, all right, I am so sorry, so terribly sorry...” His hands are upon her, impossibly light, as if afraid that any pressure might shatter her further. One rests between her shoulder blades while the other lifts to hover above her broken nose. A faint, flickering heat flows from his fingers, a quiet, mending magic that knits her back together as though nothing had happened.

“I forgot,” she whispers through the haze of shame and iron on her tongue. “I forgot—I didn’t—oh, Emmrich, fuck, fuck, I wasn’t awake, I didn’t know—I just saw—I love you, I love you—it was just so dark, and—and—and— ”

“Enough,” he says, gently cutting her off. “It is nothing, my love, nothing. You are safe. Hush now.” His hands work steadily, mopping the sticky, congealing blood beneath her nose with a handkerchief. It is a small and useless luxury from a life he no longer has need for but keeps anyway, because perhaps some objects are anchors in a sea of unbeing. “My poor darling... Perhaps I should keep a candle lit. Yes, that would be wise, don’t you think?”

She nods, quickly, furiously, her hair falling into her face. Yes, a candle. That would be good. Very good. She almost asks for something more. Almost begs him to keep his glamour, the sweet illusion of his past face, always in place, but she swallows the words, tasting their bitterness as they go down. It wouldn't be kind to him.

I. What is the main lesson of your story? Why did you choose it?

I don't have a "lesson" so much as a "message" I guess. IDK, I presume this question is really just referring to theme? I hope lol. In which case, the main theme of the witch noir series is bodily autonomy and the various systemic and interpersonal ways it can be violated. So we're talking fantastical depictions of sexual assault, domestic violence, institutionalization, reproductive control, substance use control, capitalism and other forms of material coercion, the prison industrial complex, etc. In part this theme comes from convention inspiration, as this series as a concept first began as a genre study, and in part is simply a sensationalized expression of my own personal The Horrors as a neurodivergent Jewish transgender abuse survivor lmfao. Which is just another flavor of genre convention, when you think about it! Everyone give it up for genre conventions. All my homies love genre conventions. RE: Cyrus. Obviously I can't say for sure since... NFHR (Not Finished, Haven't Read). But! I've so far been interpreting what I know of SE to have themes surrounding conservation/disaster, scientific ethics, capitalism, war, and retrofuturist dystopianism. Sort of a The Day After Tomorrow x Jurassic Park x War of the Worlds situation.

II. What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding?

This is also pretty much down to genre convention! Like I said, this series started its life out as a genre study, which means it functionally speaking came with a starter pack lol. I've also used a lot of real world culture and history to contribute to and/or base things off of. For example, Eddie's power type is built around some beliefs and superstitions common within her cultural background (Mexican Catholic). The world's history, geography, etc are based on real world people, events, places, etc and changed to synonyms/close matches (i.e. Sugar Ln to Cane St, Freddie Mercury to Izzy Quicksilver, etc) so I don't have to come up with that stuff whole cloth but I also don't have to worry about accuracy. RE: Cyrus. Haha, you said War of the Worlds. I'm getting a good grade.

III. What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, or help the reader grow as a person?

Well, aside from solving the murder and getting the girl, Eddie just wants to feel fulfilled as a person. She just wants to matter. She wants someone to care about her without obligation, to want her without needing her. And she wants to have a Purpose; she wants there to be a Reason that she exists, and exists Like This. As for what I'm doing... I'm just expressing a concept. This is what this thing is to me. What the reader does with that is the reader's business. RE: Cyrus, about doormat characters. You're right and you should say it. Louder.

IV. How many chapters is your story going to have?

Well. Original outline has it at 7 for Curse The Messenger (book 1), Gilded Verdict (2), and Latchkey Craft (4), and 13 for The Vanishing Point (3), but I'm thinking I probably should split them up more because that's putting us at an average of about 10k words a chapter, which I guess is Gucci for fanfiction but Too Long for a book? But I was doing an "unlucky number" gimmick sooo.... Maybe I'll go with 13 chapters for CTM, GV, and LC, and 19 chapters for TVP. Actually I just looked up the numerology for why 19 is unlucky, and um. Yeah! Yeah, I think I'll do that lmao. So. 13 x 3 + 19 = 58 chapters total (which, incidentally, is a lucky number! #perfect).

V. Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?

The Stranger series, and everything I talk about in any real detail on this blog, is original. I plan to self-publish it but I don't have any more specific plans than that yet. I'll decide more when I actually have a completed draft lmao. I do also write fanfiction though, which I post on AO3!

VI. Do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr? What other writers do you follow?

More advice than encouragement I suppose, but: outlining and rough drafting are for figuring out what you want to do, editing and final drafting are for doing it on purpose.

hi i'm gonna be real, watching other ppl find out their systemhood has rly shown me the like #1 thing to AVOID is system spaces online because it is maximally confusing, contradictory, and just a huge dramafest regardless of stance, experience level, etc.

personally speaking i'd recc just... exploring it with him? talk to him about it, meet his alters (where comfortable for him at least) and generally just... Try to Listen and Be Involved. it should be said like, his alters have been there the whole time, he hasn't changed in any way other than understanding himself differently now, and thus try not to treat him differently unless he asks that of you.

as for resources tbh it's a complete mess, i personally just read a lot of plural content on here in the various tags when i was starting out but imo tbh with you, i would focus on individual experience more than anything concrete. system stuff is highly complex and not super consistent as each brain handles it differently, so imo go with the flow. 👍

oh yeah personally i would say like. pluralkit and simplyplural can be nice & very helpful if he's so inclined, it makes my life infinitely easier and more fulfilling so yeah. anyways hope this helps and sorry for a messy answer LMFAO

I’m not sure what your position is on others drawing inspiration/directly from your incredible fan fiction writing but, on Ao3 there is a fic called ❤️lestappen- One shorts💙 by lestapeeen. The most recent chapter (14) is very similar to the monza chapter of long live(twwct) specifically the piggy back and proposal promise. some of the dialogue is exactly the same.

I figured you should know. If it’s a cool with you or if you knew already, sorry to be a bother.

I cannot be everywhere at once and cannot possibly read every fanfic posted to AO3, but it's not fucking cool for people to straight-up plagiarize my shit.

Secondly, I'd like to ask that if ANY of my followers come across something that looks very suspiciously similar to my fics, please let me know. You can for sure send it on anon, or send me a dm.

Now, with that being said, I clicked on this fucking fic not knowing what to think. I went into it with a pretty open mind, knowing that there are quite a few authors currently posting fics that are verrrrrrrrrrry similar to my writing style. I've gotten pretty close to calling a few of these authors out but haven't for a few reasons.

Fanfics based on the same ship, in the same canon setting, are always going to be... let's use the word "similar" here. The plot can only change so much when you're following canon events, you know? I don’t write AUs, so I’m only going off canon-inspired fics. My fics generally follow along with canon timelines and therefore, other author’s fics that follow the same timeline are going to be... similar. I get that and accept that.

Characterizations are bound to be... well, fuck it, let's use that word "similar" again. I'm gonna be pretty forgiving when someone's Max is damn near the same as my Max because one: I'm a good and forgiving person, and two: I think my characters (while totally fucking fictional) are very life-like to the real person. So, with that in mind, when I read a fic with characterizations similar to mine... I will usually give somebody grace... and accept that maybe, just possibly, they see Max Verstappen (the person) the same way I do (fictionally) and it’s a big old coincidence that our fics read so similar. You know? Does that make sense?

But with all that being said, I’m not a fucking idiot. 

And honestly? I give more grace than I should on this goddamn website. (lmfao, respectfully.) This is sadly not the first time that somebody has very much written in my likeness, and I know it won't be the last. But this is definitely the boldest version of plagiarism I've seen. I haven’t clicked on any chapter except for 14, and I heavily skimmed the first part, but let’s take a little deep dive into some of the highlights. Because I will show the receipts, bestie.

9 Years Old - Summer of xx85

You carefully step out from behind your mother’s embroidered robes, her gentle touch trying to coax you out from the safety of the flowing sparkly cloth. A tender smile as she slowly walks aside to give you space.

You were young, it was hard to really understand what everyone was talking about. All you could tell was that it wasn’t too serious, nothing bad happened and you weren’t in trouble, so that was good.

Why father was here and talking to the man with white hair was beyond you. The head of the knights? You make a guess, you’ve seen him around when he was tasked to take care of you sometimes. Probably the knight captain then. Finally curious enough to look around, your eyes move away from your parents and land on him.

Like you, he was similarly half hiding behind Captain Zed half trying his best to seem unbothered. Before you could continue to stare, you hear your fathers stern yet caring voice call out.

“ My little princess, come over here”

You listen as your father beckons you over. With elegant steps (to the best of your little 9 year old body), you walk to stand by the king’s side. Doing your best to stand up straight as you turn to look up at him as he speaks to you directly.

“ In the recent war, our Knight Commander Zed here found this young Noxian child. And this child will be your Knight from now on. Zed chose to...”

As the King spoke, your own attention wanes as you look over to see the child’s head slowly turn to look at you. For the briefest of moments, a glimmer of…something in those sunshine yellow eyes as he actually sees you. “ …he’s the same age as you too, so we talked about…” Your father’s words are nothing but background noise as you examined the new potential friend. You revel in the beautiful golden sparkle of his eyes briefly before watching them return to that dull and empty gaze.

It was hard to blame him. After all, escaping Noxian control to only be ‘forced’ to serve you? That definitely sucks. And for you? It was the horrible and sudden realization that if you have a personal knight… it means it is now all the more harder to be up to your usual mischief. You start scheming about how to win him over to your side. Partners in crime instead of enemies. Diplomacy, right, that’s what all those lessons you’ve been to have been teaching you.

How else were you going to run away from classes if some other kid is going to legally stalk you. You’d find a way to sneak around him for now. Father and Mother are out to ruin you…honestly…

“ …those Noxian genes would hopefully make him a good fighter and knight for you. Go introduce yourself, my child.”

Your head snaps back up to look at your dad as he directly speaks to you, his hand gently resting on your back. Doing your best to offer your dad a smile before trying to remember what you learnt from etiquette class. Ok…you neatened out your dress and made eye contact with the soulless looking Noxian child.

Were you supposed to curtsey when you introduced yourself? Or was it to shake his hand? Maybe you should reconsider skipping all those classes so often…

“ Lovely meeting you, I am the Crown Princess of Ionia.”

There is a brief pause as the adults look at you before Zed nudges the boy a little roughly.The messy hair child replies.

“ Kayn. I’m Shieda Kayn.”

It has been a little over a week now. Sighing as you sipped on some sweet honey tea in the royal garden. Kayn was doing his best on the job between looking after you and training with Zed.

The maids and butlers have all walked away after serving you. Having completed their orders from you they scattered to tend to other more pressing castle matters, leaving you and your knight-in-training to guard you. Perfect!

As the adults leave the two of you alone you couldn’t help your young inquisitive mind from questioning your new companion. You’ve been waiting for a chance to get to talk to him like this.

“ Hey, Kayn, can you tell me about what it’s like? Being a Knight?” “ Why would ya wanna know that, Princess.”

He replies softly, almost rude in tone, as if he was on guard for you mocking him in some way.

“ I’ve seen you train with Sir Zed, it looked fun! Sword Fighting is way cooler than learning Ionian History for hours. Tell me more Kaynie…I want to get to know you.”

“ Do I have to-”

“ Would you tell me if I order you to, my little knight?”

He seemingly flinches at the nicknames you had forced upon him, yet, he speaks anyway. Voice still soft but his expression less distant than before. It was an order…so of course he answers. If what little knowledge he had about nobility and his past in the army from Noxus taught him anything, he knew he should do as he was told.

Still standing at attention though no one is really watching him but you, the knight who was but a year older than you tells you about his life at the castle thus far. How ‘Master Zed’ really pushes him to his limits. How its like when he has to wake up early to train. How he actually likes the food he gets to eat now compared to his past.

You listen in excitement, prompting him to tell you more about his entirely different experiences compared to you. Gradually, his reserved voice gets a little clearer and almost…excited when he continues recounting his tales to you. The smallest crack of a smile creeps onto his face. Your own innocent gaze, eyes looking at him with pure adoration and your absolute yet unshaking attention almost make him want to run away. Attention from authority never went well for him in his past experiences, you couldn’t blame him for his apprehension.

“ You were from Noxus right? So what was life like then?”

And then he freezes. However little he opened up to you closed off instantly.

“ There is nothing of value to talk about then, Princess.”

You finish your tea time in silence after that.

Lmfao I just saw your tags and I'm so sorry / I cannot stop laughing that a tomgreg fanvid was the reason you started watching succession. That is the most devastating / hilarious thing and also so representative of the actual show, you were misled and manipulated into something you wanted and thought was going to happen and in the end it was out of reach and doomed from the start (although I absolutely consider tomgreg to be canon given... everything about their dynamic lmfao)

also I'm realizing this sounds like I'm laughing at you and I 100% am not I promise, I'm laughing in commiseration bc I too have begun watching shows based on fanvids/art/fic/etc thinking it was going to happen and it never appeared on screen lol

My best friend told me I should start watching it and sent me that video without further comment!! I hadn't put together how much it made thematic sense when it comes to the show though, so thank you for that! I'd realized during S1 TomGreg was in fact Not A Thing™️ but that honestly just made me love that beloved fanvid even more. Shoutout to that YouTube creator for changing my life, and for giving Cruel Summer the music video it deserved.
