Wicked, the book, feels in theory like something I could really love. Unfortunately, I did read it, and I did not like it.
#like. actually. as a writer.#'How about we treat the worldbuilding of this whacky magical fantasyland seriously?'#is actually crack for me#except the book doesn't ACTUALLY do that..#It approaches the subject with a much more cynical lens#filtered through many real world issues#but it doesn't explain shit either.#If the original book is 'Don't think about it just VIBES'#Wicked felt very much like 'Don't think about it just MISERY'#and I am so forgiving of the musical being shoddy on worldbuilding#because it is a MUSICAL#by nature built on fun vibes and not a great medium to explain wordbuilding intricacies and also very character-focused#but the book is an absolute brick and I would have LOVED a history really diving into how Oz works#except the book does nothing but start-stop; start-stop; and gets nowhere.#Nothing ever gets resolved and then Elphaba dies.#are you gonna tell me? what the fucking grimmery is about? how it works? is that gonna have any sort of conclusive story arc?#nnnnNNNOPES.#I just watched a very cool video doing this literary VS genre dissection that feels applicable here...#I was expecting a fantasy book and I got the Sad Life and Times of this One Lady

And yes, he’s fit as hell. So once is all she needs, she’s certain of it. He’ll give her the ride of her life and then she can finally move on. Unclench, as they say, once she’s done clenching all over his cock.

Curiosity finally got the better of him and he tore the wrapping off, opening the small box up. or The one where Draco is shamelessly wearing only a towel for most of the fic. You're welcome ;)
Burning the Birthday Candle at Both Ends by maggie_may_be - E, one-shot - It's Draco's 33rd birthday, and it's going perfectly... except for the fact that he can't find his wife, Hermione. Draco spends the day doing all of the things he likes, but he has no idea where she's gone. Meanwhile everyone else seems to know something he doesn't, and won't let him in on the secret. A fluffy, smutty one shot for Draco's birthday celebration.
All I Got For My Birthday Was This Overly Attached Peacock by Khawabedramione (Khawab) - G, 8 chapters - It all started with Draco’s fifteenth birthday, when his father gifted him a rare, magical, peacock. Unfortunately, the bird imprinted on Draco. Even worse, it responds, loudly and possessively, to the name Granger. Now Draco is stuck with a six-foot feathered menace who follows him everywhere, especially anytime he’s near a certain Gryffindor girl he might have a crush on. And he can’t exactly ask her out… not when the bird keeps ruining everything.

Expedition 33 post game thoughts
since none of my friends have played the game except for one person currently playing, i need to write down some thoughts if only so i can come back to this later (if anyone finds them interesting that's a bonus). They're gonna be very disjointed.
Also if you haven't finished the game do yourself a favor and don't read this until you did.
Spending the prologue getting to know everyone and setting up the expedition, just for them to instantly die in the first seconds of Act 1 set the tone for the game amazingly. I feel like a huge part of this games message is how death simply happens, and there is no grand plan or justice about it. All those people you just know have had complex lives and relationships gone in an instant.
This made the end of act 1 really click for me, no matter how devastated and sad i was. It made so much sense to me, life isn't fair and death isn't either.
With the power of hindsight, the symbolism behind Verso coming in as a replacement for Gustave is heartbreaking. A sad broken man, expected to fill the shoes of a beloved, kind man he never knew and never was, constantly compared to him by us, the players the same way he is thought of as a bad replacement by of painter!verso by characters in the narrative. The parallels between Gustave and painter!verso in general break my heart.
The way Verso longs for connection, yet works to kill everyone and everything he's cared about so he can finally die. Every time he spends time with the members of expedition 33, he knows he just makes everything more painful for himself, yet he can't help himself, he wants them to feel better, he literally cuts himself in half just to make them smile.
At the same time it's heartbreaking to see how he keeps breaking everyone's trust, no matter how many times they forgive him and how much he tries. I see a metaphor for how trying to avoid conflict by always being agreeable and failing to communicate your desires and needs always ends to hurting both yourself and everyone around you.
Good god did the older brother who loves their youngest sibling more than the world hit me hard. I never see myself as a heroic person, in fact i don't think i could be brave in most situations, but i truly believe I'd let the world end before giving them up.
Speaking of family, painter!renoire is the first fictional depiction of a father doing things "for the family" at any cost that wasn't deeply triggering and uncomfortable for me. He truly loved everyone, and i think he was right in what he did.
The concept of the gommage and the duality of the known, predictable death and the unpredictable sudden death. Both have their own horrors, and neither make it easier. I try to not think much about it, but just knowing that golden retrievers usually don't live much past 10-12 years fills me with dread and makes me cry sometimes, and i don't think I'll ever be prepared (and now I'm crying). At the same time it reminds me that at any point in time, anyone could just stop existing.
There's so much to say about escaping into worlds of Fantasy. Be it books, artistic endeavors or playing video games, clair obscur is a stark reminder of the danger of losing your real time and connections when trying to get away from the world. At the same time, it shows the potential for beauty - kid verso and clea made this vibrant and amazing universe that gave them so much, its only when this universe became escapism to their grieving mother when things went bad.
Im not sure I'll be able to/want to ever replay the game, after seeing the ending. We as players are as much painters as the in universe equivalents. It doesn't feel right to put them all though suffering because we can't let things go.
I got much more to say, but I'll end on a note about the endings.
Sciel and Lune's reactions in Versos ending broke my heart. There's no happy ending in any case. But i still believe it's the right ending, because there's hope for a better tomorrow. Verso is right. Maelle!Alicia could repaint things later, as a more mature and grown person. everyone in the canvas at this point is a repainted by her already. But she needs to live, to grow as a person, and verso deserves to rest. She can't let him go on her own, repeating what her mother did, putting him and the world though the same grief.
The Maelle ending feels straight out of a horror movie. Others have pointed it out before, but the vibrant colorful world is replaced by black and white. The people lost their individuality, and how couldn't they? Maelle didn't know them. Even the people she knew can't be like they were before, because maelle in this version can not accept inperfections. She became a puppeteer, and Verso, who has been trying to get just a tiny bit of freedom his entire life, is just a performer on a stage for her now. He knows it. He hates it. And there is nothing he can do about him. What is horrifying to me and illustrates this disregard for him as a person as opposed to a role for him to fill as her happy brother is that he seems to not have his scar anymore - the one thing he said he kept to show his individuality, his ability to choose for himself.
idk if anyone will read this but if you did, thanks, comments are welcome.

❀˖° [Fluffy Flowers] for @babulejka °˖❀

Rose — What makes them realize that they're in love with you?
It's sappy, but Alexis swears that it was love at first sight. Your mysterious aura, the way you reminded him an ethereal creature from his favorite books or the way you were so beautiful, cheerful and confident. Alexis always was sure that only the sad or lonely faces can attract his attention. Oh, how wrong he was!
The moment Alexis even got a glimpse of you, he realized that he was down bad. He was deeply in love with this amazing girl who reminds him a gorgeous witch. He felt an irresistible desire to get to know you better. He wanted to approach you first, talk to you about magic and about you. Who are you? Where are you from? Do you like magic? He needed to know it!
This was the first time Alexis was so fascinated with someone. It was the first time he was in love.
Aster — Courting/flirting headcanons. How would they act around their crush?
His main love language is the acts of service. Alexis wants to be helpful to you, so he is always here whenever you need something. He also wants to spend more time with you, talk to you and get to know you better.
Alexis is enchanted with your world. When he first visited your house, he thought that he had stepped into a fairy tale. Beautiful plants were everywhere, cute animals now and then appeared while you were showing him your place, the garden you sedulously maintained attracted his attention. And all he wanted was staying here with you. Forever. Helping you with your garden, enjoying the life full of magic and adventures, being with you, ah, Alexis would sold his soul for this. And he started moving toward this goal step by step.
Whenever Alexis has time he tries to spend it with you in a subtle way. Be it a hangout at your home or something else it doesn't matter. Slowly but surely Alexis enters your life becoming your friend at first. But then he begins to have signs of attention. He asks you will you let him braid your hair. Alexis secretly practiced for a while to show you a good result. On Kaiser. And secretly from Kaiser instead of cutting his hair. But then Alexis was exposed. Nothing can be done, he started practicing on you, but the true is he's really good at it. Even elves would be envied by your beautiful braids decorated by flowers, ribbons and hairpins he gifted you.
Even if he isn't interested in this theme at all, but you like it, Alexis does his best to learn more about it. Because everything, even dull topics, became the most interesting and full of magic with you by his side.
Tulip — Confession headcanons. How would they confess to you?
Alexis had long planned to confess you but couldn't decide how. Maybe he should write a love letter for you? Or do something grand with magic and fireworks? Or confess you after the match? Oh, he was a mess. Not to mention that you may not accept his feelings, because you were an ethereal creature straight out of a fairy tale, and him... well, he was just a good football player. You're from two different worlds. There is no way you'd love him back. No, dear Alexis, this's not true.
Alexis continued to be nervous, overthinking and trying to come up with a good idea of confession. But he was not expected that it would be so easy to confess. It went much smoother and easier than he thought.
One day Alexis helped you in the garden, while you were talking about your childhood dreams. About marrying a fantasy creature, to be exact.
"If I were a fantasy creature, would you like to marry me then?", softly whispered Alexis, yet almost as if to his own self. He was so lost in thought, he even didn't realize that he spelled it out for you.
Imagine his surprise when you chuckled softly and said that you want to marry him one day, because he is the most precious fantasy creature in your life.
Lilac — What are they like when they're in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?
When Alexis is in love it's very obvious for others. He is open about his feelings, everyone around him just knows that you're his special, his significant other, the love of his life. Not that Alexis flaunts his love on purpose, he just can't hide his feelings. You are his and he is yours, he is not in need of someone else. His team noticed that Alexis stopped his attempts to draw Kaiser's attention. Instead, he chats with you, does video call or reads the book you recommended him. His football skills improved remarkably, he has been walking on air ever since the two of you met.
Alexis Ness in the most dedicated boyfriend ever, the most loyal too. He makes you feel like you are the only person in his life, it's pretty much true. He tends to spend time with you and you only. All his interests are your interests, he is at your mercy. His love is expressed in the desire to be close to you, to become a part of the beautiful world of love and magic you showed him, just to be yours.
Freesia — Firsts headcanons. Where/when/how was your first meeting, first date, first kiss, first time they said I love you.
♡ The first time you and Alexis met was in the book store. The both of you reached for the same fantasy book, his hand brushed yours, and Alexis quickly pulled his hand away, offering you to take this book for yourself. But you just smiled, grabbed the book from the top shelf and handed over it to Alexis.
"Are you sure?", asked him in surprise. "This is the last book in this store".
But you responded with a mysterious smile, asking him to lend you the book when he has finished reading it.
Alexis felt like you put a spell on him. He felt a wild overwhelming desire to grab your hand and never let it go. You were like a beautiful illusion, a wonderful dream, so different from the other girls, from the other people. Alexis thought you would disappear in the blink of an eye and he would never see you again.. He had to do something! He should hold on to you!
While Alexis frantically tried to figure out a way to tell you something. You asked him for his phone number, otherwise how can you get the book. Alexis opened his eyes wide.
Oh.
He thought, he fell in love with you. Right now. At this very moment. And there was no turning back.
♡ Your first date happened when Alexis met with you to give the book. It's needless to say that he was very excited to see you again. So much so that he read the book in one sitting and, plucking up courage, invited you to a cafe. Fantasy-themed cafe to be exact. It was his favorite place. And even though he was a little nervous that you may not like it, you assured him that you like this place too.
Alexis used a drink and dessert he ordered you as an excuse to spend some more time with you. And then... it was like a fairy tale. It was the first time Alexis enjoyed conversation with someone so much. You knew so many interesting things about fantasy books, about magic, about the world. You were so open, but at the same time there was a mystery about you.
"Could we... meet again and talk?", asked Alexis with hope.
Did you agree? Of course, yes.
♡ Your first kiss was on Christmas. Alexis slipped out of his house to spend this Christmas with you. Every time he hung out at your home he felt like he was in another world so different than the world of his family full of science, logic and practical way of life. They even never celebrated Christmas. Why is this necessary? They can dedicate themselves full-time to research instead of doing something futile, such as celebrating Christmas. But this year, with you, it will be different!
The two of you spent the whole day together decorating your home, building a snowman, watching your favorite Christmas movies and listening to Christmas songs you played yourself, while Alexis was sitting there watching you with the eyes full of adoration. Then you and Alexis created a puppet show, acting out your favorite fairy tales and baked the sachertorte Alexis loved so much, especially when you were the one who cooked it.
While you were cooking, Alexis helped you with serving and preparing the ingredients. After a while, you playfully handed him a spoon to taste the apricot jam. Alexis obediently accepted the sweet treat with the happiest smile.
Alexis kept holding your hand with the spoon in his, even though he already tasted the jam. He looked straight into your eyes, as if transfixed. He wanted to kiss you, but hesitated. And then, as if by magic, Alexis noticed a hanging of mistletoe right above you two. It gave hime a confidence. Alexis pulled on your hand gently, as he wrapped his other hand around your waist. Your faces were inches away from each other.
"May I?", he whispered in your lips.
You smiled and kissed him. And Alexis can swear this was the best Christmas gift he has ever gotten.
♡ The confession followed immediately after your first kiss. Alexis pressed his forehead against yours, the happy smile revealed his true feelings. "I love you", he whispered and gently rubbed his nose with you.
Forget-me-not — Their favorite memory with you?
Alexis will always remember the day the two of you saw the first snow together. The two of you hung out together. Sitting in the cozy cafe you and Alexis enjoyed each other's presence. And then the snow just started and it was a total whiteout. Alexis frowned, he never liked snow, it brought back bad memories about his squashed dreams. The dreams about Santa, about magic, about Snow Golem Servant, his family ruined it all.
What Alexis didn't expect was you offered him to make a snowman in your garden. So the two of you ended up having fun in your garden playing with the snow. Alexis spent the whole day with you enjoying the snowball fight and making a snowman. As soon as your cute snowman was completed, you suddenly started drawing magic symbols around it.
You smiled in response to his puzzled face. Your precious boyfriend always wanted to summon a snow golem, right? So why not do it right now?
Hesitating for a moment, Alexis joined you. Yes, this's his favorite memory with you.
Daffodil — Love triangle headcanons. The character who has a crush on you and how does your s/o react to their crush?
Bachira Meguru has a big crush on you even though he knows that you see him only as a friend. But he can do nothing about his feelings. He is in love, deeply in love with you since childhood.
The two of you are the childhood friends. You were absolutely in love with his mother's paintings and spent a lot of time at his place playing with Meguru and his mother. The monsters and fantastic creatures has always interested you, so you wasn't mind when Meguru mentioned his monster friend.
Your kindness, your uniqueness, your bright smile, all this made Meguru fall in love with you. More and more. Every year, his feelings only grew stronger. But unfortunately, your heart is already taken.
When it comes to Alexis, he is well aware of a crush your childhood friend has on you. And he gets jealous and anxious a little every time you hang out with Meguru, because sometimes Alexis feels that Bachira is better than him. He is bright, confident and knows you better.
But every time Alexis feels insecure, you assure him that there is only one person you love, and his name is Alexis.
Iris — What do their friends and family think about your relationship?
His family was... Let's say, very chill about your relationship at first. Why the two of you spend so much time on being lovey-dovey instead of doing something useful. But they didn't knew whom they were dealing with! As soon as they met you and talked to you a little, they changed their mind. Such a smart, talented and brave girl is worthy of joining their family. Not that you really need their blessing. Especially since you know well that they ruined your boyfriend's childhood.
His friends and teammates love you a lot! Especially Michael and his coach, Noel Noa. They love to talk to you every time you come to visit Alexis and bring his team some snacks and gifts. When it comes to your relationship, they are a little jealous because the two of you are so in love with each other. It makes Bastard Munchen feel lonely. But they still very happy that you're together, not to mention that Alexis become a better player since the two of you met.
Dahlia — Marriage headcanons. Do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?
♡ Alexis wants to marry you so bad, oh my God. Married life with you is his biggest dream. Yes, he wants to marry you, live together, spend the rest of his life with you, die in one day and date again in your next life. This is the dream of Alexis.
Because of you he became more confident and grew more determined. His life began to play with new colors with you by his side. So the idea of proposing you had been brewing in his mind for the longest time. But Alexis just couldn't choose the right way, the right time too. He bought you a beautiful wedding ring decorated by your favorite flowers and stones. The perfect ring for his fairy.
And the day when Alexis proposed you has finally come.
It was a pretty typical day, the two of you spent time at your home. You were excited to show him the new dolls and puppets you recently made, but Alexis looked spaced-out during the whole day. He was nervous about something and zoned out often. But when you asked him what happened, he somehow turned even more nervous and asked you if you'd like to watch the puppet show he prepared for you.
The story was about the lonely monster who was always alone, because he was different from all other members of his family. He had had no place, he was a stranger everywhere. Until he met a gorgeous witch who lived in a house with a garden. She accepted him the way he is and fell in love with him. The monster fell in love with her too, they got married and lived happily by the end of their days.
As soon as Alexis ended the story, he got on one knee and asked, "Will you be my wife?".
♡ Your marriage was held in the circle of close relatives and friends. Even though the two of you had enough money to do something very luxury and fashionable, non of you two wanted it. Instead, you and Alexis preferred to have your wedding ceremony out of doors in a beautiful garden full of flowers and plants.
The two of you didn't expect that the whole Bastard Munchen team came to congratulate you two. The most part of them came because of you, because, oh, they love you very much, even though some of them are too proud to admit it.
You spent the whole day with the people you love the most and who love you even more than you do. Alexis was happy but nervous, he couldn't believe that this beautiful fairy agreed to wed him. You in your wedding gown, walking down the aisle to him, made Alexis tear up with joy. But, you know, even tough he truly enjoyed your wedding party, he also couldn't wait for this to be over. Why? To unwrap your presents, of course. And, maybe, not only the presents.
Daylily — Do they want to have children? What would family life look like? How many children do they want?
Alexis wants to have children. He wants to have a big family with you, he wants to give his children the childhood he has always dreamed about. Not to mention that every time he sees you with children, he has a small baby fever. You're just so motherly, he can't wait to meet your and his children. Two or three would be prefect, but it depends on you, of course, and on your wishes. Especially Alexis wants to have a girl who looks like you, it'd be so cute!
Family life with Alexis would be very funny and stable. He is a pro football player, so you always have enough money. Alexis would make sure that his family is happy, enjoys their life and believes in miracles. He'd do his best to spend as much time with his family as he can, playing with his children, reading them his favorite books and devoting a lot of time to you.
Ah, Alexis wants to start this family life with you so much.

You’re aware that Thea was most likely SAd even more and worse than Jean right? At the end of the day Jean was a white man but Thea was a POC woman in the nest. She most likely was gang rap*d. She might have known that Jena was suffering but it wa nothing in comparison to what she had to do/what she was made to do to earn her place in the nest.
First of all I am a black woman so yes, I’m very aware how how shitty our lot is in life
I know this is rude and aggressive, but at this point you deserve it, because randomly showing up in someone’s inbox with an ask like this, two separate times (and the first time much more graphic), is just plain fucked up and you deserve the reality check. You got lucky tumblr ate your previous ask and my response because I tore you a new one.
Now, you’ve gotta explain to me why do you NEED (and atp it is a pathological need y’all seem to have) to make the abuse in the Nest even WORSE than what it canonically is?????
The Nest is a CULT.
THAT IS BAD ENOUGH.
Being in a cult is bad enough already. I’m sorry that doesn’t satisfy you? Doesn’t tickle your fantasy enough? And you need to fantasize about a black woman being gang raped to satisfy your craving for violence and sexual abuse because apparently beating kids to death and Jean being raped several times is not enough for you?
Seriously, what is your goal here? What do you expect me to say?
You randomly show up in my inbox with disturbing asks about an extremely triggering topic and expect me to do what, exactly?
And you dare use race as a “gotcha” when I have already acknowledged that Thea most likely, inevitably had it harder than other Ravens because she’s a woman of color
But again, that’s not enough for you, right? So I ask you: what else do you want me to say?
I have said several times that Thea is a VICTIM. Like every single Raven. Even Riko.
She was ABUSED in the Nest. Like every single Raven. Even Riko.
Why do I have to acknowledge and agree with your speculations about her being g*ng raped despite there being NO PROOF OF IT IN CANON?
Why do I have to agree with your graphic fantasies?
Because you do realize that what you're saying is all speculation, right?
And I’m sorry, but if you want to have a constructive conversation about these books and their extremely graphic themes, we can't focus on speculations, on what might have happened, because the possibilities are endless
What we can and should focus on, is what we KNOW happened
We know that Jean was raped several times
We know that Thea dismissed it as Jean being a whore
We know that Jean was almost killed by Riko
We know that when Thea saw him half dead, she assumed it was the Master's doing because Jean might have been "up to his old tricks" and he deserved the punishment
(Kevin fully knew Jean was being raped, and he said that all Ravens knew a variation of the story; I think many knew, while others - particularly Thea, who was in her last year, with her eyes set on her pro career already and not the time nor inclination to care for little boys following her around like ducklings - didn't care enough to look into it)
We know that Riko used rape to torture Jean
We know that he felt the need to keep it a secret from the Master
We know that Tetsuji used his cane to beat his players
As far as we know, no Raven was raped, waterboarded, pushed down the stairs, stuffed into a box, cut to pieces by Riko's knives like that, had his bones broken for fun
Only Jean
Even Neil was spared some of these tortures, despite being property like Jean
But being "like Jean" does not make you Jean
Only he was tortured like that
“She might have known that Jean was suffering but it was nothing in comparison to what she had to do” LITERALLY NO.
The main abuser in the Nest has always been TETSUJI, for years before Riko showed up
And Tetsuji’s brand of abuse is horrible and fucked up enough as it is
And does not include rape
Nothing in the books or extra content points to rape being standard practice in the Nest. Nothing points to it being used as a standard corrective method or punishment. Nothing.
(or waterboarding, Riko’s knives, being suffocated into a box, being pushed down the stairs, etc. …)
Jean never mentions it. Nora never mentions it.
The only one that uses rape as a weapon is Riko.
And specifically against Jean.
That's why Riko kept it a SECRET from the Master. He didn't want Tetsuji to know because that might have been too deprived even for him
Rape is not the Raven's way
It's specifically Riko's way
And specifically towards Jean, a frightened yet combative queer boy that was also his property, and he was going to use rape, and knives, and water to beat the queerness and the fight out of him
This is what distinguishes Jean from other Ravens: he was PROPERTY
All the methods he was tortured with are exceptional, in the sense that they were exceptionally cruel but also the exception to the rule
There’s no mention of any other Raven being waterboarded, for example. Only Neil who, despite not being a Raven, was considered property as well by the Moriyamas
And yet Neil was never raped at the Nest
Maybe because Riko likes to have an active role when torturing people: he would never touch another man sexually, so with Neil he uses knives, and water and fists. Maybe there was simply not enough time for Riko to orchestrate Neil's rape, under Tetsuji's more watchful than ever eye. He wanted to personally torture Neil during his stay at the Nest, and rape is a boundary not even Riko will cross, so Neil was spared that agony.
Or maybe it's more simple than that:
Neil was Moriyama property
Jean was Riko's property specifically
Riko could do whatever he wanted with Jean because he belonged to him
But Neil didn't, so he was spared some of the horrors
I know that Riko is the Big Bad Wolf in the story because we watch it all happen through Neil’s eyes, but Riko was not the main abuser in the Nest
The MAIN ABUSER in the Nest, for years, since the Nest was created, long before Riko showed up, was TETSUJI MORIYAMA
Even Riko was abused by him
And his brand of abuse was physical violence administered with his cane
Even in Jean’s story, despite all the awful things Riko did to him, we see the amount of trauma Tetsuji caused him, the grip he still has on him, as strong if not stronger than Riko’s
.
Villains are nuanced. Beating teenagers as punishment is very different than having them raped, or tolerating mass rapes happening under your watch
Just because Riko is a special kind of depraved bastard, it doesn't mean Tetsuji is the exact same type of depraved bastard
Y'all need to stop thinking that every villain is the same, thinks the same, acts the same
Not every villain rapes people, kills children, boils puppies alive and kicks kittens to death
In my opinion the Moriyamas are cartoonish enough in their villainy as it is, there's no need to exaggerate even more
.
This is what y'all need to understand:
The average Raven experience is bad enough
YOU DON'T NEED TO EXAGGERATE TO MAKE IT SOUND EVEN WORSE
Thea, Kevin, Riko and every single Raven were in a CULT
THAT IS BAD ENOUGH
A cult that beat them up for every tiny mistake, that decided what they would study, that controlled their food and every single minute of their day, that kept them in a constant state of fatigue, sleep deprivation, physical and psychological stress, and forbade interactions with the outside world. The Ravens weren't even allowed to have families.
For Gods' sake, that is bad enough
Why are y'all so obsessed with making it even worse????
All we got from the books and extra content is that the Ravens see sex as a tool, a way to let out steam, and since women on the line up are rare, the Ravens don't make distinction, they sleep with whoever is up for it and still consider themselves 100% heterosexual
Jean specifies: "they'd made do with any man willing to tumble"
Key word: willing
He never mentions any rapes happening in the Nest besides the ones he was a victim of
And with how close of an eye he kept on Thea for that year they overlapped in the Nest, you'd think he'd notice if she was gang raped. Especially because Riko would 100% want to watch and torment Jean vicariously with it. Yet it never happened
The only ones who never slept with a man are Riko and Kevin, because in Nora's words from the ec: "they were too... press conscious? Public-opinion oriented? They were going to be champions; they were going to be world famous stars. They didn’t need anything that could “taint” that image, no rumors or hints that would put a dent in their stellar image."
(and now we also know that Riko was absolutely disgusted by the idea of touching another man sexually, he wouldn't even get his hands dirty when it came to tormenting Jean in that regard, he had other Ravens carry out the rapes for him)
Besides, Kevin was interested in Thea since the moment he met her, when he was still in high school and she was in the Nest. Kevin respected and admired her... and she barely gave him the time of day, she didn't beg for favors or special treatment because she didn't need to
Thea is a hell of a backliner and not even Riko has ever tried anything with her, because he never had a reason to (to use Kevin’s own words while explaining how come he was never raped 🙄🤢)
This is the average Raven experience: harrowing, because you are stuck in a cult for 4 years, and it will forever affect your life, but also rewarding, because if you train hard enough you get exactly what you signed up for
You get to win championships and become one of the best pro players in the country
And as far as punishments, that’s the Master's business, certainly not Riko's
He might like to torment you if you cross him, if you’re not good enough, if you show you’re scared and Riko smells fear like a predator
But Riko doesn’t have the right to beat some random Raven to death, or have them raped repeatedly or gang raped (or waterboarded, or cut up and bleeding, or or or---)
Riko doesn’t have the right to put a player's performance at risk
He could only do so with Jean, because Jean was property
And even with him, Riko spent YEARS testing the waters, pushing boundaries, understanding what he was actually allowed or not allowed to do to him, seeing what Tetsuji would tolerate and what he better keep secret from him
Jean does not represent the average Raven experience
Jean was property
Property specifically given to Riko by the Master, to do whatever he wanted with him
(I know I'm repeating myself ad nauseam, but atp I think the repetition is necessary; I've said the same things over and over, post after post, and I still keep receiving the same type of asks, so maybe if I say it a million times it'll finally sink into your heads and y'all will leave me alone?)
.
In a world of abuse, Jean is still the terrible exception
Just like Kevin and Riko were the exception, but at the opposite end of the spectrum
They were ALL abused, but Kevin and Riko were extremely privileged, treated as kings, "little gods" among men… meanwhile Jean was property and treated as such
And again, keep in mind that not even Neil was raped, despite being property as well
So why do you assume, with 100% certainty that Thea was?
Thea represents the average, but leaning more towards the privileged side
Jean and Neil are property
Riko and to an extent Kevin are family
Thea and all Revens, past and present are assets
All are abused
And all are given the chance, if they endure, to become the best
Which is why Thea is a Raven apologist through and through, and if Jean told her that he was raped, best case scenario she would just shrug it off (like Kevin)
And despite what happened to him, Kevin is still a Raven apologist, just not as enthusiastic as Thea:

.
There's no mentions of rapes for any other Raven, because rape is Riko's weapon, and only against Jean
I know (and I've said before) that technically in the Nest Kevin has power over Thea. If Thea disappointed/upset Kevin, he could go to Riko, and Riko could go to the Master and persuade him to punish Thea in some way; extra drills, less sleep, a slap, a punch, a hit of his cane to the ribs... That said, the only way to truly upset Kevin in the Nest is to suck at Exy, and Thea Muldani most definitely does not suck at Exy. So Kevin would have no reason to complain about her to Riko and set the chain of punishment into motion
As for Riko himself, he has a lot of power over Thea, but I simply cannot see him hitting her without Thea hitting him right back. And the Master would either ignore the whole thing or take her side, because I bet that old bastard would have loved to see his antichrist of a nephew humbled by someone better than him
(Not Kevin though, never Kevin because Kevin was Riko's brother in the way the Moriyamas understand brotherhood: the second always serves and submits to the first; the only time he was allowed to try, he paid dire consequences for it)
But a Raven decking Riko in the face? A woman, at that? Hilarious. Especially because Thea was one of the best, not some random bratty Raven throwing a fit against the King, but one of their best players putting a child back in his place, and why wouldn't the Master like that?
... Or maybe he would have laughed and then killed Thea for the capital offense of laying hands on a Moriyama, who knows...
But I don't think that Riko was willing to take the chance
I think he respected her
(again, all speculation)
Remember that Thea was a 5th year senior when Riko joined the Nest with his ideas of a "Perfect Court" and numbers to bestow upon hopeful Ravens. She had her eyes set on her pro career and most likely a pro contract already secured. Riko had nothing to offer to her. She admired him because he was a Moriyama, a "little god", the King of the court and part of a duo considered the future of Exy. But she is Thea Muldani ffs, she doesn't need a child to give her a number, she's going to earn a spot on the National team on her own. She spent 4 years in the Nest without Riko and absolutely dominated
Thea considered Jean a little lost duckling following her around (in an incredibly condescending, bordering on insulting way, rather than affectionate)
She considered Kevin the future of Exy but also, in the beginning, a guy not up to her standards and who "fucks like a virgin", she barely gave him the time of day... until she noticed how good of a player he actually was, how much Riko was stifling his talent... (btw she was actually the one to put it in Kevin's mind, for the first time, that he was actually better)
And I'm sure that she respected Riko as a Moriyama and as the King of the Court. But off the court, if Riko had tried to swing at her, she would've swung right back. With her backliner racquet instead of a fist
And I think Riko knew it and respected her for it
Thea is extremely arrogant. The type of arrogance born out of actual, tangible superiority (just like Kevin). Which is why you'll never convince her that she's wrong about anything (just like Kevin) and why she'll hit you if you try to hit her (just like Kevin does with Neil and Jean, getting aggressive and physical until Andrew or Jeremy intervene; but unlike Kevin, Thea will attack anyone that crosses her, not just people she considers weaker than her and easy to subdue, as Kevin does)
The Ravens have existed for years before Riko showed up
We only got to know the Riko-obsessed Ravens, because the books are set during his reign over the Nest
But that’s not the reality, the usual, the standard for the Ravens
For the average Raven, that trained at the Nest before Riko, there was a different god: the Master
Tetsuji Moriyama was their obsession, their recurring nightmare, their tormentor
(their savior, their leader, the source of their every success and fleeting moment of joy… because that’s how cults work)
And Tetsuji’s brand of violence, as far as we know, does not include rape
Doesn’t even tolerate rape, since Riko kept it a secret from him
And that doesn’t mean that Tetsuji is a good guy
It simply means that what Tetsuji is, is bad enough already
There are Ravens that were literally killed by the Master after a beating that got out of hand
That is bad enough
Every Raven was stuck in that environment for 4 years, witnessing and experiencing physical and mental abuse
You don't need to make it even worse
The Ravens have existed long before Riko joined the Nest
His particular brand of cruelty is not the standard
So I really don't understand this obsession with making everything even worse, more horrific, more cruel...
I do blame Nora for this, she undeniably has a fixation for pain/torture and even admitted she can't find a character interesting unless they went through unspeakable abuse
And she attracted a fanbase that for the most part thinks just like her
Or maybe you’re one of those Kevin apologists that hate my opinion of him and are trying to use Thea as a tool to diminish Jean’s suffering? Because you think that will somehow absolve Kevin? … Kinda racist to use a black woman as a pawn in your games to elevate an already privileged white man, don’t you think?
Whatever the case might be, go do that somewhere else. You’re not welcome here.
Kevin and Thea deserve each other. Jean deserves so much better than the both of them. He deserves Jeremy, Cat, Laila, Jab, the floozies, Coach Rhemann and Adi, the sun of California, rainbows, open roads, friends...
Die mad about it.

I just wanted to say, i'm SO READY to buy the jockey-romcom-family-drama-horse-sad-story book when it comes out, you have no idea.
(In reference to Killie the Jockey OC and his complicated little life)
Well, thank you so much! I called that incredibly kind and supportive of you, because you are by no means obligated, and I truly appreciate your encouragement.
I’m a new believer that when you are seized by a radiant alien urge to create, then you have been touched by something beautiful and genuine and true, and that you should graciously accept the gift, and follow it where it brings you. That’s why I keep finding myself writing fanfiction, despite constantly saying that I’m Not Sure How Important It Is As A Hobby (I Need To Weed The Allotment Instead). Sometimes you get possessed by an idea, and enter that spirit of flow and power, and wake up a few hours later having written the story - you know how that is? I increasingly believe that you have to say YES to this, and follow it where it’s going, even if it seems somewhere pointless or silly, and you can’t immediately see how it’s a better use of your time than weeding your actual material allotment. But I’ve been thinking about it since the summer, and now I think that being this kind of Possessed is a bit of a gift, and if you take it, and then give it to others in the spirit that you received it - freely, and with generosity and courage, and with no more expectation of reward than a wild animal expects another sunset - then you get more gifts. So we should do this!!
That being said, I’ve got no damned idea how to write a book.
Here’s what I think is probably involved:
Finish my two existing WIPs and the outstanding fundraising work for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund
Have fun with Killie asks for now, because they are FUN and a GIFT
Do my damndest and best in my free time to turn a whole folder of years-old Killie nonsense into three novellas that are also one book.
Hopefully have some friends willing to do this with me, ideally as parallel play with their own tasks, so we can throw eggs at each other
Hire and pay an editor who is brave and true, and who knows how to write a book.
Hire and pay sensitivity readers who are brave and true, so that Jewish and Irish characters remain brave and true: also ideally someone who knows more than me about horse racing, so that nobody forgets about the blood-soaked Problematic Sport.
Work out some self-publishing mechanism by which I don’t have to care about Marketing, or the fact that sad-drama-romcom-messy-sports-fantasy isn’t a marketing genre. Or that people who see that there’s a gay relationship might be expecting Romance.
I will simply be saying HERE IS A GHASTLY LITTLE MAN, BEING TRAMPLED BY 20-30 BUSINESS HORSES. take it or leave it
Include the Killie comics in the books.
Take advice from cleverer people on correct Authorial Behavior, which I believe to be things like being very cool and distant about your work on social media. (Will have to check this.)
Fantasy stretch goal: make enough money from the book to earn back what I paid the editor and sensitivity readers (unlikely but always possible)
Sounds like a fun project for spring/summer if I scramble!
I will be very brave and do this, as a promise and a gift and a privilege.
I would love it if you would be brave with me this year and do something similar too.

Long Live the Queen - Prologue

Eden Sukuna is the daughter of the Queen and King of Curses, Y/n and Ryomen Sukuna. After her mother dies when she’s only 7 years old, she’s immediately put under the pressure of continuing her mother’s legacy, and becoming a great leader as she once was; but Eden doubts she’s ready for this, having dreams of her own she believes her mother would want her to chase. But her father is unwilling to let go of his expectations for his daughter, and the memory of his wife that comes with them. Unbeknownst to both of them, y/n is unlike the monarchs that once stood in her and her husband’s place, she’s here to fight for her family in life and death; Long Live the Queen, they said…
Warnings!! - Major character death, parental grief, monarchy, swordsmanship, none in this one really :D
WC!! - 570
A/n!! - after asking whether I should post this or not, I got a really good response!! I’m so excited about this, I love this story. If this post preforms well then I may continue the story. Lmk what you all think! Disclaimer, this is VERY inspired by The Cruel Prince, and basically the whole Folk of the Air series by Holly Black, she is my one of my many inspirations for writing hehe. Definitely check out her books if you’re interested in royalty, fantasy, folklore, and Fae😌
Ever since y/n, the Queen to the King of curses, died in a crossfire between a group of enemies infiltrating the Sukuna kingdom, the land she once ruled has never been the same.
The village people sung and held vigils for weeks, sometimes months, after she perished. Murals of her regal beauty were painted all around the village. The plant life seemed to change to a sad gray-blue color that could only mean that even the physical land of her kingdom was grieving as well. But no one, not even the royal land they stood upon, grieved as astoundingly as the king and princess of the Sukuna kingdom.
At just seven years old, Princess Eden had to stand in front of the people her family honorably ruled for centuries before her existence, and listen to her hell bound father tell them that their Queen had died. As she watched an uproar of anguished cries break out over the crowd, she found herself unable to comprehend how she herself should react in the moment.
Eden is her father's daughter after all, so how could she be expected to portray herself as anything but fearless and cold-blooded?
It is still said that the news of Queen y/n’s death brought upon a great storm that lasted weeks over the land, and the rage of the king was felt by all of the village; like a shock wave that destroys everything only a few seconds after the bomb drops.
This brewing storm only mirrored the storm growing inside of Eden; as the years went by and her father became more bound to his mission of hunting down his wife’s killers, it grew even more disastrous than the day before.
But she poured every ounce of herself into the royal training the king insisted on her attending at the early age of ten, hoping to console that part of herself that has remained a distraught seven year old girl.
Eden still practices for hours on the gray hills of grass behind the kingdom, learning to parry, riposte, and feint attacks with a wooden practice sword, just as she did under her father’s supervision in the start.
Sometimes, she catches herself fighting as if she were the Queen in her final moments.
Did she feel the adrenaline Eden does as she slams the side of her sword against her imaginary opponent's? Did she also get bruises on her knees and shins? Queen y/n was known as the most skilled Queen with a sword in all of Sukuna history; did she remember that title in her final battle?
If she did, Eden imagines that it must not have meant much in the face of death.
Sometimes, for a few moments, Eden believes that if she could go back in time with all that she knows now, and fiercely fight for her mother's legacy, she’d be able to save the once thriving kingdom her family created over centuries.
But at the end of training, even if Eden is knocked down to the ground, or standing in triumph over her opponent, nothing she can do will bring her mother back; and nothing she can practice or dedicate herself to can distract her from that.
Despite all of this, Eden still goes back to the kingdom at dawn everyday, whether she's ready to face her father and the constant reminder of what she once had or not.

2025 Anticipated Book Releases
My reading goal for this year is the same for last year in that I want to read 70 books! And hopefully a few more nonfiction, as always. BUT my main 2025 New Years Resolution for reading is to read less broadly. I read very broadly last year which was good, but it kind of made me sad in the sense I wasn't reading as many books that are "for me." So! More fantasy this year.
January
Water Moon by Samantha Sotto Yambao (Jan 14th): Set in a pawnshop where people can sell their regrets and past choices. I am always a sucker for a slower magical realism story when done well.
Breath of the Dragon by Fonda Lee and Shannon Lee (Jan 7th): I usually strictly avoid YA at this point but adore Fonda Lee so I'll be reading everything she writes. This is an Asian-inspired fantasy work with dragons.
The Good Mother Myth: Unlearning Our Bad Ideas About How to Be a Good Mom by Nancy Reddy (Jan 25): I am always drawn to gender dynamics that are a little more invisible and have thought there is some absurdity to the idea it's "always the mother's fault." A nonfiction on socially constructed motherhood.
February
A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett (Feb 6th): !!! Probably my most anticipated read. The Tainted Cup was such a breath of fresh air in fantasy last year and the combination of epic fantasy and fun characters was perfect for me personally. This should me another murder mystery and I can't wait.
Emily Wilde's Compendium of Lost Tales (Emily Wilde 3) by Heather Fawcett (Feb 11th): I have already read this since I got an ARC but I did adore the ending! This installment started quiet slowly but ended on a much more high fantasy note than I expected in a good way.
March
Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green (March 18): I was surprised by how much I enjoyed John Green's nonfiction essay collection since I found his fiction a little rote. But his essay collection had a bittersweet thoughtfulness I really appreciated. As such, I am very interested in his next nonfiction work.
April
Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry (April 25th): I am among the masses that have followed Emily Henry ever since I read "Book Lovers" and discovered her dialogue. Her work can get a little repetitive after a point, but this had such an interesting premise of two writers competing to write the biography of a reclusive famous author. I'm seated.
Authority by Andrea Long Chu (April 8th): An essay collection on the nature of authority in a world where "everyone thinks they know everything." I am fascinated by this topic.
May
My Friends by Fredrik Backman
Fredrik Backman is one of my authors. I read A Man Called Ove at such a challenging time in my life that it hit like a freight train and I've been following Backman's work ever since. I love when things hurt nicely--and a book about friendship from Backman? I am ready to hurt nicely.
OTHERS
Hemlock and Silver by T Kingfisher, a Snow White retelling (!!! another one of my authors, I adore Kingfisher)
Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by Victoria E. Schwab (I've always been lukewarm on Schwab, but toxic lesbian vampires has my damn ears perked)
You Didn't Hear This From Me: (Mostly) True Notes on Gossip by Kelsey McKinney (I LOVE the Normal Gossip podcast and will be here for this)
------------
If there are any books you think I'll like, lmk! I'm always on the look out for stuff like Jade City or Naomi Novik's work.

Warning: this is an angst post about Dragon Age, EA, and the state of the corporate-driven art world in general. I totally get it if you're really over this. I am right there with you. But if you DO read, thanks. You're a peach and I love you.
To begin:
It looks like Dragon Age is done. BioWare has made it clear that the last patch is where they're leaving it. EA was disappointed with the player count, and I'm betting they're not going to greenlight a new entry in the series anytime soon. And that honestly breaks my battered 32-year-old fantasy artist heart.
So imma angst about it for a second because this is now a Dragon Age page and it's all I talk about on here, because honestly where else am I gonna angst about this.
As much as I gush about Veilguard on here, I am actually well aware of its flaws. Believe me, I *know* it's not perfect. When I got the art book, I saw just HOW FRIGGIN MUCH the team had planned for DA4 - and how much they had to cut to finish it, after 10 YEARS of development. I know about the absolute *hell* it went through, the massive number of team members that were fired or left the studio before it was finished, the ridiculous expectations and demands EA executives made that caused the studio to scrap everything and start over several times.
Knowing this, it's incredible that Veilguard is at least *intact* and *playable* and still has that Dragon Age personality (at least to me, personally - I understand why some people do not feel the same way, and that's perfectly valid) (and by valid I do not include the 'anti-woke' brigade, you can fuck right off my page if you're here for some strange reason).
THAT is what I gush about - that feeling is still there, even when it's not perfect and had a very troubled development.
This series has meant so much to me over the decades, and remains my favorite fantasy series, period, overall. It's my comfort place (rather weirdly, considering the blood, gore, and brood mothers) and also served as something of a social simulator for me when I was really young and had social anxiety so bad I literally couldn't say hi to people I knew in public. I was convinced I would do it wrong. So having these pre-constructed interactions with fictional characters that I could go back and redo if I wanted was really therapeutic.
I mean, I did go to actual therapy and take medication as well, but you know, this stuff is important, too.
The example I will always cite (and probably have already on this page but whatever) is Sten. Sten, in Origins, is the huge stoic badass warrior archetype, and I was constantly trying to earn his approval in the game. But I kept FAILING. He kept UN-HEARTING me. And I couldn't figure out why! I was saying all the nice dialogue options! I was agreeing with him on stuff! So what would it take to get some approval from this asshole?
I finally caved and looked up a guide. And I was floored to discover that, actually, Sten approves of you *when you stand up to him*. He wants you to have a backbone, even if it means disagreeing with him. He respects a strong leader who stands up for what they believe in, not a yes man trying to get him to like them.
This concept, the idea that even a *fictional character* like this could exist, was absolutely amazing to me. It sounds really dumb, but seriously, it actually shifted my thinking about how I talk to people and what they expect of me. It was a small shift, but it's still stuck with me all these years later. It's a testament to the power of stories, and how the interactive nature of games can tell stories in a way no other medium can.
I've had many other experiences with other games and books and movies and TV series like that since. But because of that effect it had at that time in my life, Dragon Age has a special place in my heart no other series does.
But... That's not the only reason I'm sad about the outcome with Veilguard. It's really only half the reason, actually.
The other half is my anger at the game development machine as a whole. We all know it. We've all watched it churn and grind several studios into pulp. We've seen big time studio execs - most of whom, these days, haven't ever actually worked in game design and probably don't even play games themselves - treat designers like garbage they can just throw away when they're done with them, or they don't perform their perceived function the way the execs want them to. (I know it's not just execs that do this, but they're certainly the central problem). These people are in charge, but they aren't artists or storytellers. They see things in terms of products and consumers, monetization schemes, player counts. They don't see the value in what they sell, beyond how much money they bring in.
There is a necessary place for people like this in any business, certainly, but they should never, ever, EVER be the ones in charge. If the past three decades have taught me anything, it is this. These people care about how much wealth they can hoard, and nothing else. We now live in a world where creativity is manufactured by an algorithm, because these people don't want to pay actual humans to do it. The value of artists and what they make is reduced purely to profit.
Don't get me wrong, as an artist myself I do like being able to make money. I certainly like being able to do what I do for a living. But I don't do it *just* to earn money. If that were the case, I would have just stuck with my job chopping vegetables at that deli in my hometown that paid way better and gave me health insurance (not that that's a shameful profession - I seriously would have stuck to that job if I had actual business brains). I do art because it's what I love and what I live for. Hell, I am making NO money from my art right now, but I still make it. Even when my projects fail, I still think they're important, and are worth investing in. I go back to those projects, get feedback, see what I can do better, and try again. I grow, and do better, and give those stories a chance to grow as well.
And that's what's missing from not only the games industry, but most creative industries now, at least on the market end: that understanding of art's inherent worth. That willingness to try again, and improve. Giving things a chance to grow, beyond just player counts and profit numbers.
That was what made Baldur's Gate 3 such a phenomenal success, from which (I think) competing studies took the wrong lesson. Larian worked on the game as a labor of love (as well as a labor of money) interacting with the people playing it, taking feedback, and incorporating their own passion for the project over and over again. They went the extra 1000 miles. They let the game grow and do better.
I'm not saying that Veilguard should have done that BG3 did. What I am saying is that it should have been given more of a chance to grow. As it is, right now, there is still potential to do better. But.... it's not getting that chance. It's the first Dragon Age game that isn't getting any DLC, no extra content, no other chances to expand upon the story. And, it looks like, the series as a whole might not be getting any more chances at all. Maybe I'm wrong - I might just be coming over all bitter and cynical (as only an unemployed artist with mountains of student debt can). I understand that BioWare might just be done with it after a friggin decade. But... it just feels unfair. And sad. At least for me.
It is just a game, at the end of the day. There will be other games, other products to consume. But. This product meant a lot to me. Art, of all kinds, means so much to me. And seeing the way art of any kind is treated now, but especially things like this... It hurts. A lot. And it keeps happening.
So. In order to combat that, lest I fall down a despair hole and never come out: I'm going to keep filling in holes. I'm going to make my OWN personal DLC.( Or, um. Just 'C', I guess.) Even if I can't code and model, I can write and draw and comic. I have my own stories in my own self indulgent fantasy worlds to tell, but I'm also going to keep adding to Dragon Age, at least in my own canon. Even if it doesn't mean anything to anyone else, it'll mean a lot to me. And I hope I'll get to see other people continue to make their own DA art and stories, as well as worlds of their own making. We need art - ALL art - right now, more than ever. Seriously.
As Andrew Wincott, the actor behind Raphael in Baldur's Gate 3, said: "Keep being creative. Keep making these worlds, and maybe one day we'll learn to protect the one we're in."
And that's me, angsted out. Thanks so much for reading. If you've made it this far, I have a gift for you:

It's Varric's chest hair. One of my criticisms for Veilguard is that there is not nearly enough chest hair on anyone but particularly not on Varric, which I think might be an actual crime.

Paige’s Rules to Turn You Beta Gooner Porno-Freaks Into Total Mindless Wrecks
1. **Ditch News for the Sleaziest Porn Blogs**
News? Too smart for your drooling ass. Trash it and dive into the grimiest corners of Pornhub comments or some crusty Reddit goon thread. Obsess over which camgirl’s got the fattest ass or who’s trending on OnlyFans. Words longer than “boob”? Skip ‘em—your brain’s too busy leaking.
2. **Swap Docs for Endless Porn Loops**
Documentaries? LMAO, nerd shit. Replace ‘em with 24/7 porn marathons—step-sis roleplays, hentai tentacles, whatever keeps your hand glued to your junk. If it’s not making you edge, it’s garbage. Your brain’s a cum-stained sponge now—squeeze it dry.
3. **Zone Out of Real Talks for Porn Fantasies**
Someone tries chatting about “life” or “feelings”? Let your eyes glaze over and picture some big-tiddy anime waifu instead. Grunt “yeah, sure” while drooling ‘til they bail. Real talk’s for alphas—you’re a beta goon lost in jerk-off land.
4. **Ditch Normal Friends for Fellow Gooner Degenerates**
Your old buddies too functional? Dump those chumps. Link up with greasy pornosexuals who live in Discord goon caves, trading links to VR porn and arguing over who’s edged longer. If they don’t worship pixels, they’re not your people—beta losers unite.
5. **Scroll Pornhub ‘Til Your Soul’s a Sticky Puddle**
Books? Gross, never. Crack open Pornhub, Xvideos, or some sketchy tube site and scroll ‘til your screen’s smudged with shame. Clips under 5 minutes? Perfect—your gooner attention span’s shot. Keep edging ‘til you forget your name.
6. **Talk Like a Simping, Brain-Fried Goon**
Full sentences? Nope. Mumble “so hot,” “need it,” and “yes mommy” like a broken sexbot. Giggle at your own boner and whimper mid-sentence. Sound like a pornosexual zombie—nobody’s expecting sense from a beta like you.
7. **Obsess Over Porn Stars, Not Real Life**
Forget “goals” or “hobbies”—fixate on your fave camgirl’s new set or that JAV idol’s latest leak. Spend hours worshipping thumbnails instead of, like, eating. Brains don’t get you off—tits do, you drooling simp.
8. **Blast Porn Audio or Goon Beats Nonstop**
Music with lyrics? Too deep. Crank up moaning soundtracks, hentai ASMR, or some hypnotic goon playlist with bass drops and “stroke it” chants. If it’s not frying your mind while you edge, it’s trash—your ears are for porn now.
9. **Forget Reality, Babble Porn Nonsense**
Facts? Who needs ‘em? If someone mentions “work” or “weather,” just nod and mutter some dumb shit like “Yeah, but have you seen Riley Reid’s new vid?” Truth’s for normies—you’re a gooner spouting horny lies.
10. **Play Goon Games ‘Til Your Dick’s Raw**
Chess? Sudoku? LOL, no. Load up those shady porn clicker games or hentai RPGs where you grind for virtual boobs. Edge through every level ‘til your wrists snap. If it’s not NSFW, it’s not worth your beta time.
11. **Avoid Decisions Like a Spineless Coom-Slave**
Choices stressing your tiny goon brain? Don’t pick—just beg your Discord bros to decide or flip a coin between “edge more” or “edge harder.” You’re a mindless jerk-off puppet—let the porn gods guide you.
12. **Laugh at Normal Stuff Like a Horny Clown**
Someone talks jobs or family? Cackle like a hyena and yell “Bro, who cares when there’s VR anal POV?!” Switch it to your latest goon obsession—real life’s for chads, not pathetic betas like you.
13. **Live for Porn Drama, Not Real Shit**
Start flame wars over which porn star’s better or who leaked whose nudes. Big issues like “bills”? Yawn. Your world’s a sweaty, pixelated mess—keep it petty and porny, you edging disaster.
14. **Sleep Through Life, Wake Up to Edge**
Work? School? Snooze through it all—drool on your keyboard, wake up only when your phone pings with a new upload. Learning’s for winners—you’re a gooner loser drowning in cum-soaked dreams.
---
You’re doing every damn one of these, or you’re just a fake-ass wannabe gooner. I’ll know if you sneak a non-horny thought—I’ll chain you to a goon playlist ‘til your eyes bleed and your hand’s a claw. Get to it, you whimpering, pornosexual aspies—dumb yourself down ‘til you’re just a twitching pile of lube and shame! 😤💦🔥
Ciao & Mwah XoXo

PART 1
A/N: This is the first thing I have written in 5 years so please be kind if it’s not your cup of tea. I was never an amazing writer to begin with so this all I’ve got. The story might have some historical/show inaccuracies but I’m running loosely with it. The facts and details of the show will remain the same it’s just set in a modern time and not the 90s. Also I don’t know how embassies work, so don’t give me shit for inaccurate information. Let’s just pretend everything in my fantasy life is true.
WARNINGS: bit of an age gap. Reader/main female character is imagined as late 20s/ early 30s and Javier is early 40s. Talks about drugs, violence and some mental health topics like depression and feeling sad. No smut (for now) but sexual themes. Curse words, some Steve Murphy content as well. Some sad boy Javi, he’s just a baby that wanted love and he’s a little depressed. It takes a bit of plot before Javi and reader meet. Some angst moments, maybe enemies to lovers if you will. If I’ve missed anything please feel free to let me know. Story will be written in the 3rd person but might fall out of it every now and then. I’m an over sharer and Javier Peña is my favorite Pedro character, bit of a dream man for me if you will and I’ve always had the fantasy of meeting an older man done with his federal agent work and he’s still grumpy until he falls in love.
SUMMARY:Javi has been done with the drug world and the DEA for a few years hoping to live a freer life away from drugs and violence. His transition and adjustments haven’t been easy and he’s losing hope that after a few years he hasn’t made any progress towards the life he hopes to live. Javis new job post DEA has put him in a position where he meets new people everyday, but none that he remembers and leave an impression, of course until the day he runs into you. ( this description sucks and I’m so sorry I didn’t want to be too descriptive and ruin the story
2025. 4 years since Javier Peña wrapped up his time with the DEA busting drug kingpins and witnessing enough acts of violence to keep 3 generations of therapists booked and busy. He felt like he lived a thousand lives in Colombia and didn’t want to waste anymore of the 1 life he did have left. He could’ve continued on with the DEA in Mexico, but that wasn’t how he was going to get to the life he’s been yearning for. He’d never admit it but seeing Steve with Connie and their kids, Javier wanted that too. He’s dreamt about meeting a woman that would drive him crazy and fall madly in love with him and would also be crazy to take on everything that comes with being part of Javier Penas life and even have a family with him. He struggled with the thoughts of wanting that for his future because those are the guys he would always make fun of but now, it’s not so funny anymore when there’s that pain in his chest, and gigantic hole in his soul. He’d also rather jump off a cliff that admit and accept that the reason he pushes every good thing in his life because he doesn’t deserve happiness and doesn’t want to drag anyone down with him. His problems didn’t end when he left the cartel world behind and instead followed him back to the US. A whole new set of problems were popping up for Javier and he knew how to approach them and how to move on. He had the resources but just can’t make that first move to better his life.
The obvious choice for Javier was to head back to Texas and help his father on the ranch. With not a lot of family left and the years numbered for his dad, the expected choice would to come home. He was torn between being with his father but wasting the rest of his life somewhere where he felt suffocated. Fortunately for him and some contacts that still liked him after everything that went down , Javi found himself in New York City, still working a government job for the Mexican Embassy as an agent, something Steve made fun of him for and called it stupid. Javi didn’t care what Steve or his father had to say, he made it to New York with a decent job and decided to leave the rest up to fate and the universe’s timing, although there’s no way he’d ever say that to another person from fear of being made fun of. He didn’t care about being the new kid, his first day or fitting in with his coworkers, which for someone who was looking for a new life and opportunities is pretty stupid to not keep your mind open. His pay was decent, apartment paid by the embassy, and he got his nights and weekends to himself. Most importantly, there was no one shooting at him or threatening to ruin his career. He was still an agent and carried a gun, but even at the 3 month mark when he passed his probation and became a full fledged employee, he didn’t even have to put his hands on his gun other than to lock it in the safe. Technically he had a partner, a nice guy a few years younger than him from the Midwest that nursed the same desk station as him, but he was no Steve Murphy. In the span of 3 months he only exchanged greetings and goodbyes and important work information, but it was all very minimal. After 3 months, he couldn’t tell you a single thing about his partner other than how he chatters his teeth when he’s nervous which annoyed the hell out of him. It actually made him long for the few easy days he had with Steve. But that right there was his first problem, expecting everything to be like Colombia. Javier will die before he admits that he’s not a big fan of change and often seeks out things of familiarity, which is exactly what Steve told him on their daily FaceTime calls.
“God damn Javi, you’ve been there over 3 months and you haven’t found 1 person you like?” Steve yelled at him in frustration.
“Just because I don’t have any friends yet doesn’t mean I haven’t come across anyone that I don’t mind spending time with,” Javier shared.
“Colombian prostitutes weren’t enough now you have to get a taste of New York? Is that what you do with that extra money in your pocket since you’re not payout rent?” Steve asked knowing he was right.
“I didn’t call you for you to judge me on how I spend my free time and money,” Javi scoffed at him.
“Well since you don’t talk to anyone else in this world, keep it in your pants man. Stop resorting to your old ways because the same destructive behavior is not going to get you the happy life you’ve been dreaming of.” Steve said.
“How the fuck would you know that fucking every night and the life I want don’t go hand in hand?” Javier asked.
“Bullshit Javi. I know you well enough to know the things you’ve been wanting but are too afraid to admit it or to let anyone in. So I do know for a fact that fucking prostitutes all the time is you taking 10 steps back away from what you went to New York for. I ain’t saying you shouldn’t be fucking every night but I damn know well it’s not a different person every night you’ve been longing for. “ Steve yelled annoyed.
“You make it look so easy. I don’t even know where to start. I always say and do the wrong things and fuck everything up Steve. Im a grown as man and can’t even take the first step,” Javi shared.
“Start with your annoying coworker.” Steve shared. “And don’t give me that look, as irritating as you might find him, talk to the guy and make a friend. Stop making the decision everyday to be so miserable and grumpy and maybe, just maybe next year by this time, you’ll have a whole new life;” Steve said with hope for Javis future.
Javier didn’t say anything. He just stared back at the screen which Steve knew means Javier knew Steve was right and there was nothing more to say.
“All I’m saying is if you keep doing the same things like you did in Colombia, you’re going to end up in the same position and even more depressed than your sorry ass is now. Make a new friend, have one nice decent conversation and you’re giving me a full report next week amigo,” Steve commanded.
That was Friday night, their usually scheduled time together, something Steve always made fun of Javi for because he’s a single good looking guy in New York and he’s spending it on FaceTime with his buddy. Now, he had 48 hours to mentally prepare how he was going to start his conversation with his partner and prayed to god this was what he needed to take a step in the right direction. Monday morning came around and as usual things were calm and Javi had plenty time to initiate conversation. At first it was simple small talk, friendly, but nothing to the point of breaking a surface into a deeper conversation. That was until his partner was picking up on Javis want to have more of a conversation and invited him to have lunch. He got to know more about his partners life and silly random facts about him, but what peaked his interest and also found him with a pang in his chest was when his partner showed him a photo of his wife he married 2 years ago with their almost 1 year old baby. Just when he was starting to enjoy contact with another person, all it did was remind him about the things he wanted, he didn’t have. The rest of his day went on business as usual. He wrapped up his work and started his 20 minute walk home like he always does, something he did usually enjoys. Except for this time, every damn corner he turned there was either a stupid couple holding hands or some cute baby that made him sick to his stomach. Javier figured this was some cruel joke from the universe, but a joke he deserved for all the bad things he’s done. He now lied in bed staring at the ceiling listening to the sounds of the city as he does every night he can’t sleep and just left his hand stretched out reaching for the always empty spot in his bed that made his heart ache. He always thought it would be an actual person that would make him feel like an emotional mess, always falling apart behind closed doors. He always thinks this is even worse because he’s losing it over an idea, a fantasy of what his life could be and he swears if one more thing happens that makes a mockery of his wants and desires, he’s going to fucking lose it.
Another mundane week passes as expected but Javier is relieved because he can at least have 2 days to himself to either cry in his apartment or let out whatever anger he has out on the next willing prostitute. He’s about to leave at 5 on the dot when his boss calls him over to offer him an extra opportunity. The Mexican embassy does its best to remain amicable with other countries and embassies and is often looking for new ways to show that willingness so whenever they can spare some of their own agents for some overtime, it’s not an offer, but more of an order. Had Javis boss really known who he is, he would’ve not have chosen him to report to the Greek embassy to assist with crowd control for almost 12 hours and to work with employees of another embassy to help people, and least of all on a fucking Saturday when he should be at home feeling sorry for himself. With no choice but to say yes, he goes to sulk the one night he can and once again mentally prepares for another thing he doesn’t want to do.
Have hope. Keep an open mind. Be positive. At least that’s what Steve always tells him and for what? For him to do all that with an open mind and still get fucked? It’s almost 8pm and the sun setting is finally setting on what he hopes is the worst day in June he has in this city. He has a small cut on his cheek from having to chase and tackle a civilian making threats, something that mirrored his work in Columbia and if he has to tell one more person to not do something, he might have to cut his tongue. He’s got the all clear to go home, exiting the building and now right outside the locked embassy doors when he hears a sound of the door rattling. With a quick turn of his head, he sees a woman with her hands in the door, frantically trying to get in mumbling a bunch of nos and trying to hold down a sob.
“The building is obviously closed. Stop making all that fucking noise” Javier screamed extra loud for the woman to hear over the sounds of dozens of cars honking. If there’s one thing he hates, it’s stupid people and as the women ignored his scream and kept trying the door, that pissed him off.
“Are deaf? Senile? Lost?” he yelled again.
He waited for a response but was met with a pause and then the ruminants of a depleting sob. Walking closer, he placed his hand on the woman’s shoulder which made her shudder and whip her head around to look Javier right in the eyes. He stood there, starring back at the woman’s glossy eyes and swore all the air was just sucked out of lungs the moment their eyes met and almost didn’t hear what she was saying.
“Please, please,” the woman begged. “I had an appointment to finish up with some legal documents and there was an accident. It took me 6 months to get this appointment and I’m a little late, I can’t go through this again!” She pleaded.
Javier grabbed the paper from her hand that laid out the details of her appointment and just like that he was back to being annoyed and grumpy.
“This says your appointment was for 6pm. Why the hell did you think you could show up 2 hours later with no issues?” he scolded her.
“You don’t understand. I didn’t plan for this , it just happened and I never do things like this. I just got unlucky,” she explained.
“Well guess what sweetheart, this is the real fucking world and there’s consequences. Be an adult and deal with it, it’s not the end of the world. Try again and stop crying in the street like lost puppy,” he yelled.
The woman in front of him started to feel so small as her eyes started to swell up with tears. Javi couldn’t help but think how beautiful she actually looked but of course never crossing his mind how fucked up it is to start thinking these things about a woman looking up at him crying. She snatched the paper out of his hand and wrapped herself in her arms for a little of comfort.
“You’re so god damn mean. Yelling at a stranger that’s going through hell. What the hell is wrong with you?” She yelled.
Javi didn’t expect her to raise her voice and stand up for herself. He’s more used to doing the talking and women listening and that’s what he thought she might be doing when she stopped talking and looked at him, but the not the way she did when their eyes met. If he was in her head right now he would know that she looked him up and down and would be embarrassed to admit that the asshole yelling at her has such a handsome face, the kind of face you don’t see often, and really knows how to work a pair of jeans. Snapping out of her daydream, she remembered the sudden rage and anger for a stranger when she looked down and eyes his bare hands.
“No wedding ring huh?” She teased. “Makes sense. I wouldn’t want to be married to that either, and looks like no one else does that other.”
If Javi was any more deeply fucked up then he was, he might have slammed this woman against the door and told her to shut the fuck up, but he knew better than that .
“Better an asshole for a husband that a wife with an empty brain that can’t even make it to an appointment on time!” He yelled in response.
Before she could get another jab in, the embassy door opened and man stepped outside looking at both her and Javi confused. “Would you happen to Miss YFN, YLN? We just heard the message you left and we still have a senator in the building that is willing to sit with you.” The woman put herself together and changed demeanor when she saw she would getting what she came for. “Thank you so much for your kindness and understanding, that’s a rare quality these days,” she said directed at the gentleman but shot daggers right into Javis eyes as she said it. After a few seconds, he was left outside alone, his heart racing a million miles an hour and his brain wondering what the hell just happened. “YFN, YLN,” Javier repeated with a smile on his face. “What kind of stupid fucking name is that?” He said into the night as he made his way back to his apartment to finally finish this day, continuing the cycle of mean and grumpy Javier Peña.
This should’ve been like any other week. Regular work day, regular evenings at home, even regular lunches with his partner that he’s warmed up to, expect for the constant flashes in his mind about the woman he met Saturday night. He’s in New York City, of course he’s laid eyes on thousands of women over the last few months, many that covered the requirements of being attractive, but none that he ever thought about again once they were out of his sight. None actually that made him feel a little pressure in his chest with a quick smile before he resorted back to being grouchy as he thought about the sound of her voice and the way his eyes trailed down her body in an everyday outfit that made him wonder how the heat of her body would feel if he just got a little closer. Down to his next FaceTime with Murphy, his usual routine was being turned upside down and that really pissed him off. If he had a friend or someone close to confide with in person the way he does with Murphy, that friend would be upset because a change in routine is exactly what Javier needed to start living and not just existing.
“So it’s safe to say you have at least one buddy now?” Steve questioned.
Like clock work, Friday night rolled around and Steve called his old friend to see if anything had happened to make his buddy start feeling differently about life. To Steve’s surprise, this wouldn’t be like the other calls where he has to keep saying the same motivational and cheesy shit to keep his buddy above water.
“You could say I have a friend now,” Javier mumbled.
“Why do you sound so annoyed? I mean more than usual? There’s an irritation in your voice I can’t place. Does it have anything to do with that last minute overtime you did last week?” Steve asked.
“Yeah it was a bullshit job. Doesn’t matter if I got paid, I spent this day climbing over shit, yelling at people and tackling morons to the ground, and the night was even worse!”
Steve saw the change in Javier’s expression and raised an eyebrow.
“What the hell happened to you at night?” Steve asked.
“Stupidity happened Steve. Irritation and incompetency,” Javier said still not answering his question.
Steve waited with a look on his face, just staring at him through the screen signaling for him to say more because he knew he wasn’t getting the full story.
“It’s about fucking time!” Steve said way too excited.
“What the fuck are you talking about?” Javier asked confused.
“Take down a bunch of drug lords, no problem, just another normal week for you. But realizing that you’re still thinking about this woman you met for 2 minutes that annoyed the shit out of you, which you’re a fucking moron for being a mean piece of shit to her, it’s obvious. This girl got in your head, under your skin, and it’s scaring the shit out of you to feel something other than anger and annoyance.” Steve laid it out hoping he’d understand.
“What did you do, get your shrunk degree with all the free time you have now? I’m not fucking hung up on this woman because she made me feel anything.”
“There’s only so much I can do for you Javi. I’m not there like I used to be to pick you up when you need a boost. But from what I do know, you’ve been given this opportunity, an opportunity I know you’ve been praying for and now that you got it, you just want to look the other way and it’s fucking irritating because I want to see you happy before we die and-“ Steve was cut off before he could finish ripping into Javier.
“YFN”, he whispered.
“What did you say?” Steve asked.
Javier repeated the name. “That’s her fucking name. Stupid isn’t it?” Javier shared. “Doesn’t even fucking matter. She was gone within minutes and I don’t know anything else about her in a city of millions.”
“Because I’m sure the man working a government job would not have access to resources to maybe find her and not let a good opportunity pass him by?” Steve suggested.
Javier felt a little bit defeated that someone else, even if it is Steve knows he’s got real feelings. He always believed no one needed to get that close to the point of sharing anything personal, but here he is now and it feels pretty fucking real for him. Feelings and emotions complicate everything and most people will use those to tear you down the moment they get the opportunity and he never wants to be on the receiving end of that’s
“I’d take it that stupid smug look on your face means I’m right? You’re losing your mind over this woman?” Steve questioned.
Steve didn’t even have to ask and knew it was more of a statement , which bothered Javier even more that the person who knows him best got it out of him that he was in fact feeling like a dumb teenager, feeling things he hasn’t felt in a really long time. Not even when he had a gun to his head did Javier feel as scared and panicked as he did thinking about her.
A\N: I guess if this does well there will be a part 2 where Javier does in fact find her again and maybe for once something feels right for our little baby Javi :)

Saw "Moana 2" and...(Review with Spoilers)

In retrospect, I'm not surprised that Disney's highest-grossing Disney princess movie (not adjusted for inflation and Anna and Elsa aren't part of the Disney princess line) got a sequel. That said, given the track record Disney has had lately since "Strange World," I'm also not surprised with the decline in quality. So here's my thoughts on it in 3 points.

The music is...different--Thankfully, Disney got the same people to do the score, but when the film was envisioned as a TV show, they decided not to approach Lin-Manuel Miranda (or maybe he was busy) and instead approached Barlow and Bear for the music. Now to be fair, the soundtrack is NOT bad, but it's not as good, either; Matangi's song feels very showtune-y rather than an epic song set in the Pacific Islands, and every song except Moana's feels like a downgrade. Granted, I do blame this on the transition probably not giving them as much time to grow and change the songs, but I still find it to be disappointing. I think the songwriters could've been better suited for an original film and Disney get LMM back the moment they decided to make a sequel film.

2. The new characters aren't anything special--First off, Simea doesn't do anything to impact the plot in a way another character couldn't. When you give the main character a sibling in a sequel, you expect them to have an impact. Simea's goal was likely to show the bigger stakes Moana could face and all the leaves behind, but the first film was also life or death for her and her people, and her parents could still serve as what she leaves behind, especially since they're older and Moana takes on new responsibilities. Moni as a storyteller seems like he should be a source of encouragement and remind Moana of her grandmother, instead of a fanboy. Plus why he reveres Maui despite him almost destroying the world would be interesting to explore. Loto being the science-y girl in a world with clear fantasy elements would be interesting to explore, especially since she doesn't seem offended or in denial of it. Kele is supposed to be the farmer, but visually, we don't see how that comes into play that much. Moana pretty much does most of the work. Matangi is also just a servant to the main antagonist Nalo, but he isn't interesting or symbolic like Te Ka, and Matangi is a weird mix of villain and helper. I'd have rathered she was a villain akin to Eris from "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas" and was simply outwitted by Moana. Her small role and message of getting lost felt underutilized. And it's SAD that the Kakamora feels more interesting than the rest of Moana's crew. The wayfinders at the end of the film and in the art book looked much more interesting, and I'd have enjoyed them filling the roles Kele, Moni, and Loto had. On the bright side, Moana as a character wasn't ruined, even if the film didn't do any favors for her.
3. There's no real message and the plot is very boring--The film continues on the message of the restoration of cultural identity, but nothing the characters experience really show a conflict that threatens that. In the first film, sailing and wayfinding is forbidden due to Te Ka's influence causing the ocean to be tempestuous. As such, they lost a big part of their culture. Maybe the film could've focused on Nalo (or Matangi) venturing out to destroy Moana rather than her coming to him due to her possibly being the hero to unite the people across the Pacific. They'd manipulate the humans and cause rifts between the people of Motunui. It'd be more domestic, but perhaps have Moana going to different islands, meeting other wayfinders, and trying to weed out Nalo's deception could work. This is all assuming you wanted a strict villain over a trickster deity or a more nuanced antagonist. And side note, but the modern dialogue (ie butt dialing, hair flip, and fanfic were so cringey to me).
Overall, the film is...fine. I need to hear about what was going on during production, because I can't blame it all on "it was gonna be a tv show first." It wasn't as good as the first film, nor would it win a "battle of the sequels" with "Frozen 2," but it's better than "Wish," and while that's a low bar, it's something I could be happy with for a brief period. 5/10
(And I'll probably add this film to my "alternate take on the Disney revival era" post--but I'd like to hear a little bit more about the production for the film before I do.)

Murderbot Ep 1-2 Review: Live-Action Fanart
Apple TV+
Once, in a conversation with my best friend who is also a writer, we fantasized about how if our stories were ever adapted to film/TV, we’d be so chill and cool about everything they needed to change. We understand that visual storytelling is a different medium, and the showrunners would totally see that we get it and would therefore love collaborating with us.
I must confess that this fantasy popped like a balloon while watching Apple TV’s Murderbot pilot. Because this was definitely Murderbot. But it was not Murderbot by Martha Wells. I’m stating the obvious here, yes, but I genuinely didn’t anticipate how obvious (or jarring) it would be while watching. It reminded me of those “draw it in your style” art posts, where the characters are immediately recognizable but also clearly envisioned by someone new.
That is to say: The series feels spiritually like Murderbot Diaries fanart—sometimes in a great way, and other times in a baffling way.
Confronted with this reality, I must accept that I’d probably be a pain in the whole ass to work with if my stories were ever adapted. Stop replacing all the good lines I wrote with clunky expo, I might be tempted to say. (Not that I’m in danger of finding out anytime soon!)
Let me back up. Who the fuck am I and why am I writing this tumblr post, you might reasonably be wondering. Well, I’m an indie author who writes cozy sci-fi novels that you’ve never heard of. Before I wrote even one word of my own book series, The Murderbot Diaries was a HUGE inspiration to me and one of my all-time favorites.
So, like many fans, I’ve been very curious about the TV series and how I’d feel about it—and the answer is: Mixed!
First, the good:
Going by the first two episodes, the clear strong points seem to be the world-building (delicious settings, awesome futuristic tech) and Sanctuary Moon, as the trailers suggested. It’s fun to see the world of this series come to life in such a cool and immersive way, and to actually see clips of Murderbot’s favorite show. Great fanart is a love letter to the characters it celebrates, and that feels especially true here. The reveal that Murderbot deliberately quotes dialogue from the show to improvise with humans came right out of the gate, but I can respect the decision to lead with that since it makes the character so compelling.
Great humor in the first two eps, as well! I’m interested to see if they’ll be able to keep this going. The tone feels very promising now, but I’m hoping it doesn’t stagnate or become trite. Overall, the cast seems solid, too—I’m a little sad that the show doesn’t have an Overse, but the team has decent chemistry and the throuple contract was a fun addition.
Second, the WTF:
Okay, it’s possible that I got this wrong, but when I read the books, I thought that Murderbot was referring to the PreservationAux team by their last names because that was all it bothered to memorize from their files—or maybe that was all it needed to distinguish between them. Whatever the reason, I thought this was specific to Murderbot as a character, because obviously the people have first names, right? I therefore did not expect the human characters in the show to call each other their last names even in casual conversation . . . Out of everything the show could match exactly, this feels like the strangest choice to me!
The awkwardness doesn’t end there: There was quite a bit of rough dialogue where the original book lines would have worked better. I DON’T expect the show to line up perfectly with the book’s conversations, of course, especially in the beginning when there’s so much setup to get out of the way. But some of these early exchanges were needlessly clunky. Gurathin grilling Murderbot about the existence of "comfort bots" was boring and forced compared to the book version, where Murderbot simply snaps, “You don’t need to look at me. I'm not a sexbot." So much personality and expo packed into two punchy sentences!
Lots of book fans are going to have lots of opinions on Murderbot’s body being all skin with no visible robot parts, which . . . yeah, why??? But I’m going to be even more obnoxious and say that I’m specifically bothered by Murderbot's hair. (ETA: I have to admit that I misremembered that the character had hair at all in the beginning and thought it was supposed to be bald, but hair and eyebrows IS established, so I'm slightly less mad about it now.) Why does the hair look sorta styled in the front?? It reminds me of a guy I knew in college in 2007, which popped into my head not unlike Murderbot’s disturbing glitchy flashbacks. Bleh. Couldn’t it have been a standard buzzcut?
In closing:
I’m looking forward to future episodes and hoping the show settles into a rhythm and keeps getting better. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if this version of Murderbot wins me over enough to make the series a favorite show—but I’m not ruling out the possibility.

Okay so, been thinking about the whole Rhaegar of it all. And specifically his relationships with Elia and Lyanna.
He was a shitty person and they weren't in love.
Read more because it's a big rant and I'm trying not to be rude to people who like him/ these ships.
Elia
Okay so like. There's zero info about HOW she got engaged to the Prince that I can find right now?
Because from what I recall, there was originally a plan for her to marry Jaime, because their mom's were close friends. And Tywin said no to that for some reason? (Again can't find the reason given if there was one available, probably was cause of her poor health tho)
Meanwhile, last thing I knew about Rhaegar's future marriage is that Roberts parents were sent to Essos to try to find him a bride with Valaryian blood (subsequenly failing, and then dying due to a storm).
So how their marriage ended up happening? Especially when the King is uhh racist? Towards her? (Literally says her baby "smells Dornish" and won't hold her)
Also, it's known that they didn't have a particularly loving or romantic marriage. It was considered happy, but how true that is and how much was just social posturing idk.
Plus well, how happy could Elia have been, all alone, no real support, in that vipers nest of a court, with a husband lost to prophecy who likes to fucking play wonderwall all the time because it shows how sensitive and humble he is, and a father in law who gets his kicks out of burning people alive?
Additionally, she was known to have very frail health, since childhood. She was bed bound for half a year after her first child. Like, she was not in a position or state of health to be getting pregnant again as fast as she did.
So, I think we can agree that uhh Rhaegar fucked her health over severely with his delusions of prophecy.
(also, not to ya know... Diss fantasy medieval medical skills but uhh... How exactly did they determine she was 100% never having a kid again barren after giving birth to her son?)
And then well, Harrenhall. Where Rhaegar publicly humiliated her by naming a 14 year old girl as the Queen of Love and Beauty. Shortly after which, he runs off. And next thing Elia, and everyone else, hears about him, he's kidnapped that girl and run off to parts unknown.
Leaving her alone, with his ever more insane paranoid psychotic murderous racist father. With their children. Who were barely toddlers. The eldest was maybe 3.
And then within the year, he's dead, and she's trapped with her children, with no escape. And her children are brutally murdered in front of her, and then she's basically raped to death (technically her cause of death was a crushed skull, but well... Gregor) over her children's corpses.
So uhhhh.... Where in that story do you think they have love for each other? They're literally married for less than 4 years of her life total. And he's gone for like... Most of 2 of them? And she's bed bound from giving birth or being pregnant probably the rest of their marriage? Doubt they actually spent time together as a couple often.
Lyanna
Okay so, to start this part off. The Tourney of Harrenhall happens when Lyanna is 14 years old. So like, reframe all these events that happen in your head and realize you're talking about someone who's pretty fucking young and sheltered okay?
Additionally, there's some major discrepancies in how their relationship is portrayed between the books and the show, which I'll get into a bit.
Alright so, to start. Rhaegar does his wonderwall bit, Lyanna is overcome with emotions about it. Wow.... A 14 year old girl.... Overcome with emotions at a hot guy singing a sad song.... Who could have ever expected that!
Genuinely though, a sheltered 14 year old girl, having her first big trip away from home, sees a literal prince who is charming and handsome and is a good singer, of course she's gonna be charmed by him!
Especially when you consider that this is also the first time she's meeting Robert, her betrothed, in person. And he's drinking a lot, and being loud, acting lewd, trying to be way to familiar with her. Etc etc.
And she has a justified reason to not be enthused about their marriage. He's already got a bastard daughter running around. So her, reasonable, assumption that he won't stay loyal to their marriage bed is a valid complaint. Especially since she's a Stark, and they take vows very seriously.
Plus, Robert was raised by Jon Arryn and grew up with Ned. Yet here he is... Whoring around and getting drunk as fuck constantly.
Also, her dad stayed loyal to her mother, even though it's been years since her death. With that kind of comparison against him Robert wasn't looking good.
Some months after the Tourney, Lyanna is riding some 10 leagues (30 miles, or nearly 50km) away from Harrenhall. (Which for reference is at least a 2 day ride out). Whereupon Rhaegar and his personal lackeys Kingsguard happens upon her and they go missing together.
Now here's where the discrepancy really begins to kick in. In the books, it's pretty strongly stated by those that knew her that Lyanna did not choose to go with him. She was alone, far from anyone else, it's noted that she had no training in combat (so that theory of her being the knight of the laughing tree isn't canon, it's just a fan theory). Meanwhile here's the prince, who is well educated in combat, and has multiple trained knights with him. Hmmm yeah I wonder how willing she may have been....
However, in the show they present this story that Lyanna hated her betrothal to Robert so greatly, and that her infatuation with Rhaegar was so strong that she chose to run away with him. Without leaving a note? And yes I did say infatuation. Because even in the show there's little interactions between them up to this point. Also, at this point Lyanna is pretty freshly 15.
And while I will not discount that teenagers can feel love (would be a hypocrite if I did given I'm married to the person I started dating in highschool), she's spent no real time with him and has no experience in relationships of that type, understandable, but that means that's the first time EVER in her life she's felt interested in someone at all.
So in the show it is, at best, a Romeo and Juliet situation on Lyanna's side of things. Where she's young enough to get swept up by the initial passion of infatuation, and feels pressured enough by others to make extreme choices in her romantic life. (Her looming wedding to Robert, her lack of familial female figures, she doesn't seem to have any female friends even, she's surrounded by men who expect her to do this thing she's not a fan of)
However, and I dislike that people seem to forget this fact. Rhaegar didn't love her. It's literally stated in both the books and the show, that he was fucking delusional about a prophecy (that was likely mistranslated) because it made him feel special. That's why he went after her. He was convinced that he could fulfill this prophecy if he had his third child with her. (Which, by the way, according to his delusional prophecy should have been a daughter.)
Now again here is where there's a huge discrepancy in the story. Because Rhaegar's siblings (Viserys and Daenerys) believe he was in love with Lyanna, which confuses me because from what I know Viserys hardly ever saw him, and Daenerys never met him. So really, how accurate can their view of the situation be?
(yes I know Dany had a vision about Rhaegar's death and that his last word was Lyanna's name. But like, again she's not mentally stable at this point, it's a weird fucking situation, and she's already biased about it so...)
And Rhaegar's main lackey Kingsguard Selmy also claims that he ran off with Lyanna for love. But I mean, this guy was so far up Rhaegar's ass I'm surprised he could breathe. So how likely that's true is genuinely debatable because I find it difficult to believe this guy was making reasonable conclusions about the whole situation.
On the other half of the story, you have those that were (nominally) close to Lyanna. That being Robert, and (we learn through a comment Bran makes later on) Ned. They claim that she didn't want to be with Rhaegar. And that he was "raping her hundreds of times". That paired with the fact that they didn't get her back until Ned and his group killed off Rhaegar's guards who were keeping her locked in a tower as she was apparently bleeding out doesn't paint a picture of someone who is there by choice.
In between you have those who seem to take the stance of "Yeah Rhaegar hated his wife/marriage so ran off with the first girl he saw."
Now, I don't know about you, but however the situation came about that Lyanna ended up in that Tower. I don't think she could have held love for Rhaegar after learning their dramatic affair led to the horrific and grisly deaths of her Father and Brother. Even if she did join him there willingly out of passion or infatuation. There's no way she wouldn't have blamed him for her losses. (especially since even in the show it seems like she's literally being held prisoner after she's in the tower, so has no way to leave or communicate with others)
HERE'S THE BIG DIFFERENCE!
In the books, we don't know Lyanna's official cause of death. There's definitely a pretty heavy implication about it's cause, given the whole... Kidnapped for most of a year by a guy and found in a bed soaked in her blood situation. But officially, officially, there is no mention of her having a child in the books. Not even a miscarriage. We know she dies asking Ned for a promise, what for? Not clear yet. (Maybe if GRRM would write his fucking book already!)
In the show it's pretty blatantly a death by childbirth situation. Specifically because of her young age (she dies at 16) and lack of medical attention plus the stress preceding the birth.
And admittedly, that confuses me greatly. If Rhaegar's whole thing with even pursuing Lyanna was so be could have this prophesized third child of his... Why wasn't there a midwife? Some kind of medical assistant for her?
(also I feel you should know that people historically had their periods later in life than we do in the modern day, so she probably didn't even have a full years worth of periods before he knocked her up, so her body could barely handle it anyways. Truly, man loves his women with fragile health and dying from the pregnancy he's forced on them.)
The man, the bitch, the Problem
There's no way you can get me to believe this man genuinely loved or cared about either of these women except as a method in which he could realize his delusions of being a special little snowflake chosen by the Gods to do.... Something.
Yeah he didn't even know what the prophecy was actually about. Nor what it actually meant. I know a lot of people think he did, but canonically he didn't know shit about the Long Night.
How can you claim he loved either of these women when he kept them both trapped and helpless in situations where they were suffering, meanwhile he's running off and playing hero to his own little story.
He wanted to be special so badly he didn't care what he did to achieve his goals. He didn't care about those he left behind or abandoned. He didn't do anything to better the fucking nightmare that was his father acting as king.
He cared about fulfilling this prophecy, as he interpreted it, and being well liked via fucking playing wonderwall.
He didn't do anything to protect or take care of anyone in his life, not even his own mother. He was just as delusional as his father, he just wasn't paranoid. Instead he had the worst "teen boy thinks he's the world's main character" syndrome. (Like, he's 5 seconds away from trying to have a signature weird pose and catchphrase)

January 2025 Reading Wrap-Up
I read 12 books this (neverending) month and somehow not a single one of them was under a 7 out of 10. How the fuck did that happen? Anyway, this year, if a book is targeted at a non-Adult demographic, I'll be noting it in several parts.
1/10 - Why Did They Publish This?
None applicable.
2/10 - Trash
None applicable.
3/10 - Meh
None applicable.
4 to 6/10 - Mid-Tier
None applicable.
7 to 8/10 - Good With Caveats
Spark Joy: An Illustrated Master Class On The Art Of Organizing And Tidying Up | Marie Kondo
After reading Marie Kondo's "The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art Of Decluttering And Organizing", I compared it to this one as I went to see how it worked. While both are focused on decluttering (in a way that Marie Kondo now agrees is a bit much, according to the people I've talked to while reading this book), this one gets a lot further into the actionable steps instead of the theory, featuring step-by-step folding guides for all sorts of things.
Gwen & Art Are Not In Love | Lex Croucher [Young Adult]
This is a Young Adult historical romance. Despite the emphasis of Arthurian legend in the summary, it is not a retelling and does not have magical elements. At best, there are some folk magic bits that don't launch this into the fantasy category because they are all easy to write off (and are written off in the narrative itself). I enjoyed reading it, and it very much needed all 410 pages. My only complaint is that I really, really would have enjoyed seeing how exactly the problem at the ending was resolved, but I'm getting used to the fact that books from Book of the Month don't have a solid and actual ending. I still liked reading this, however.
Interesting Facts About Space | Emily Austin
This is the kind of book you read when you want to read about someone whose life is a much larger mess than yours is. Despite wrapping things up fairly neatly at the ending, one of the things brought up in the summary never gets explained or resolved in a way that just feels annoying. It feels like a badly-implemented cliffhanger for sequel bait, and I don't have the energy to dig up "actual ending" fanfics for every book I read. I did have to recategorize it in my spreadsheet because it's a lot less "romance" and a lot more "contemporary hot mess". The protagonist is a disaster lesbian, with heavy emphasis on the "disaster" part.
9/10 - Very Very Good
Brokeback Mountain | Annie Proulx
So uh. I found this one in a bunch of donated books from a library patron. So of course I grabbed it. I read it for the January meeting of my library's book club. There was a lot more being sad than I expected, considering how Brokeback Mountain was usually explained to me. I still had a good time reading it because sad gay cowboys are, in fact, one of my interests.
Skull Scrying: Animal Skulls In Divinatory Trance Work | Lupa Greenwolf
I got this book out of a big divination bundle from Lupa's store that included a tarot deck, a tarot deck guidebook, two minibooks, and a ready-to-go osteomancy set. I ended up reading this one first out of the bundle because I cohabitate with a whitetailed deer skull named Skull Friend, and the idea of scrying has always fascinated me even though I can't do it for shit. (What do you mean, "clear your mind"? I have intrusive thoughts and shit, it's physically impossible for me to do that.) This is a small book at only 32 pages, but it's incredibly information-stuffed. When I say a book could have been a blog post/zine, this is a good example. I did have a few bones to pick with it, but those aren't enough for me to bump it down to the Good With Caveats section.
Pocket Osteomancy: A Simple Bone Divination Set | Lupa Greenwolf
This is another, even smaller (24 pages) book and is clearly meant to be in the same category as tarot guidebooks, but since I have had 0 experience with osteomancy before, I figured I'd read through this whole thing. It was just as interesting as the skull scrying book and started me on the path of slowly re-exploring death magic and getting into proper nature and animal-related magic.
Werewolf Magick: Authentic Practical Lycanthropy | Denny Sargent
This book somehow wound up here despite several problems I had with it just because it was so damned useful. Review (or rather, bulletpoints) here.
A Witch's Ally: Building A Magical Relationship With Animal Familiars & Companions | Dodie Graham McKay
This is another book that somehow wound up here even though I felt the shoe drop a few times. Honestly this one is probably more useful than Werewolf Magick for the average mage. Review (or, again, bulletpoints) here.
My Roommate Is A Vampire | Jenna Levine
This is a romcom paranormal romance brought to us by the Reylos. And you know what? It was fucking hilarious. I had a great time reading it. I genuinely enjoyed it the most of the romance-related books I read this month. I did keep getting the gay couple (Scott and Sam) confused because both of the names started with S, but that's because I'm bad at keeping track of a book's side characters. Also, they very much have sex. Several times. I ended up skipping those parts, but they get raunchy once they finally get together.
10/10 - Unironically Recommend To Everyone
Doctor Esperanto And The Language Of Hope | Mara Rockliff, Zosia Dzierzawska [Juvenile]
This 40 page biography is technically classified as a Juvenile biography in Missouri Evergreen, but I'd argue that this is such a low reading level that it would fall in the Easy category if Missouri wasn't so terrified by the thought of a biography about a Jewish man. Regardless, I enjoyed reading it as the introduction into my poking of Esperanto. I'm not surprised that it smoothed over the more uneasy parts of Dr. Esperanto's life (like the Zionism and the Hillelism), but it was a good introduction leading to...
Bridge Of Words: Esperanto And The Dream Of A Universal Language | Esther Schor
Part biography of the Esperanto language (particularly the life of its creator) and part biography of the author (a Jewish woman) interacting with various parts of the Esperanto community, I found this to be a fantastic and far more thorough book for the subject overall. I was glad I read this after the other biography.
Destroy All Humans. They Can’t Be Regenerated, volume 2 | Katsura Ise, Takuma Yokata
Yes, yes, this is volume two of the MTG manga that's being reprinted. And I fucking adore it. I love seeing an overconfident male protagonist get his ass beat. Also one of the characters reads as hella genderqueer but that's probably because both of the other characters are reading them in opposite gender directions. I'm enjoying this series, even the young romance that's cropping up between the male and female protagonists.

i just finished reading "a man of honour: or horatio's confessions by j.a. nelson and in her acknowledgement she thanked fucking kenneth branagh for his adaptation of hamlet and i've never trusted a person less
my brief review will be below the cut. spoilers, obviously! tw for rape, sexual assault mention, and misogyny
i went into this with no expectations. i have gotten my hopes so high for hamlet retellings and none of them have impressed me much. looking at you ophelia and antique roman.
speaking of antique romans, nelson uses that term 13 times in her novel and it's so distracting!!!!!
for a novel printed in 2019 i really am surprised by how rooted it is in heteronormative tropes. i'll get more into that in a bit.
one of the first lines of the book is about how much horatio loves hamlet...AS A BROTHER. every time he brings up his love for hamlet, in fact, he has to mention that it's only as a brother. because he's definitely not GAY. perhaps it's because i headcanon horatio as gay but i read this as horatio having trouble coming to terms with his homosexuality, or rather, bisexuality as the case may be in this novel. like he just focused on brotherly love SO strongly to the point where it did a 180 and felt like a closeted man trying to cope. was this the author's intent? i sincerely doubt it but it helped me to get through. i am in no way saying a man can't love another man as a brother!! just that it felt to me he was trying to justify the use of the word "love" to an abnormal extent.
i didn't mind horatio's characterisation entirely! it is based mostly off of one line from the play where horatio says of rosencrantz and guildenstern: not from his mouth, had it the ability of life to thank you: he never gave commandment for their death. this lie, seemingly the only one told by horatio in the entirety of the text, informs nelson's entire characterisation of horatio and i don't entirely agree with that. i think it simplified him rather than giving him the depth required of a leading character. i did think he was likeable to an extent but the things that made him interesting were never deeply expounded upon to give us a fully fleshed out character which was sad to me because i wanted to enjoy him completely.
the sexual content of the book was bizarre. (read: i am a connoisseur of smut but i feel like horatio got a boner so many times his dick probably chafed off) i sincerely thought i was reading an 1980s novel written by your typical male fantasy author. it can be an enjoyable time but there are just points that stick out and slap you in the face. the most egregious of these was when, moments after the death of hamlet, horatio's best friend, the brotherly love of his life, horatio gets aroused by the sight of a woman's breasts. i can't recall exactly but i think in the first chapter he mentions her breasts three times while the dead lay around him and fortinbras questions him. maybe tiddies are how he copes? we don't know. if i see the word "bosom" again this week i may take a revenge quest for myself upon the author.
with many of the characters of hamlet dead it becomes almost necessary to invent new characters to further horatio's story. i have seen it done where no new characters are introduced or only minor characters are introduced to success but due to the scope of this story i see how that was not possible. that being said, the supporting cast, made up of horatio's new best friend (one of fortinbras' men) and his new lover (getrude's principle lady) leave much to be desired. i wanted to like them but i just couldn't fully accept them as characters amidst a story of so many beloved characters who are all dead. they didn't prove their worth and they certainly didn't give reason for falling in so quickly with horatio. the attraction to him is pretty much instant and they abandon everything they held dear for his sake. without any reason they forsake their beliefs and their oaths and follow him.
i want to touch a moment on the role of women in this book. the book is set in the early 1500s which, to my limited knowledge, was a period in which women observed limited rights. they seemed to have slightly more freedoms than other parts of europe but they were still restricted. if i'm mistaken in this feel free to correct me, i'm not an expert. however!! i think the book lacks understanding of just how varied the thoughts of women and HUMANS can be. they all seemingly are of one mind in the book and there isn't much that differentiates them from one another in personality. in fact, i think there are only three women presented in the book (aside from mentions of background characters) who are gertrude, ophelia, and margrete (horatio's lover). all of them are shown to be lusty and locked into the mindset that they need a man to make them whole. i am aware that the whole "must find a husband" thing was/is prevalent in society but the extent to which it's presented here makes it feel like that's all they cared about. gertrude has little to do in the book (one of the few mentions of her is how her breasts are bouncing) but i will touch on the other two. ophelia, in the book, is actually mad. one of the very few things she does before her death is rock back and forth and whisper "hamlet" for hours. another thing she does in her "madness" is try to entice horatio to sleep with her. it just felt gratuitous to me? that's really all she does. and then she drowns herself purposefully. there is no tree, no snatches of songs, no accidental drowning. she pins herself under a rock.
margrete is seen as a fallen woman because she was raped by another noble. i get that this was a common view but my issue lies with the treatment of her character. she talks to horatio about her assault multiple times and talks about how she can't trust people, especially men. and that's fine!!! but then in the same scene the author has her sliding men's hands under her skirt or into her bodice so that they can grope her and she can gain entrance to forbidden places. it's just a choice i cannot grasp. horatio, once he begins courting her, quotes the "frailty thy name is woman" line in regards to her several times. and tbh if all women were written like her, i would agree with him. i DON'T, i promise but. one minute she loves him, the next she hates him to the point of being abusive and cruel. and it goes on like this, in a cycle, in every conversation that they have. it makes NO sense. there is no chemistry between them. horatio is there for the boobs that he can't stop staring at. she's clearly supposed to be a strong character because that's how horatio describes her but she's not. she is there to be ogled and to...idek. not once does her character ever further the plot in any way. she is really just there to make...horatio look better as a person, i guess? she doesn't have nearly as much agency as the author seems to imply she does in the countless mentions of how "she never does anything she doesn't want to".
hamlet's story. the whole point of this book is for horatio to tell hamlet's story. there is a whole convoluted plot that i probably won't get into but as for the basics of everything, horatio steals the gesta danorum and gets the idea that to tell hamlet's story he will print it into the margins of this book...in the middle of a history book. but!! brilliant idea!! he will change hamlet's name to amleth and make him a warrior prince who accomplished all of these strange feats that never happened and in this way he will tell....hamlet's story? (the author actually did use lines from saxo grammaticus for this) 85% of the book is about this. after a series of hardships he gets this story printed. he eventually begins to tell this story in villages in denmark and it gets popular...but it's not hamlet's story. which is just...i don't get the choice to honour hamlet in a way that doesn't tell his story, that doesn't even touch on most of what he went through to come to the point of his death. eventually horatio does come out with the truth in two manners: one, he recites it in three sentences. two: he prints the truth, a confessional that he locks away in a church not to be revealed until his children have children. it is later found by one of his great grandchildren who writes the play hamlet and....sends.....the play to shakespeare.
they also made reynaldo one of the most pervading villains for whatever reason. yorick was the name of a ship. fortinbras just kind of sucked. he wanted to kill everyone for being danish while crowning himself kind of denmark. the line hamlet has about his dying voice going to fortinbras is another of horatio's lies. the first chapter is incredibly clunky while horatio and hamlet have just a wild conversation about how life could have gone. oh and another thing i forgot is that while horatio is on a deadline to get hamlet's story finished he...asks for courtship lessons and competes in tournaments to win over margrete and i just cannot imagine that horatio would allow himself that. maybe i'm crazy.
as for the positive aspects, i liked getting to read more about horatio even if it's not a portrayal i 100% believe in. i just love the little guy. i think the author, for the most part, has a beautiful way with words. in other places i wanted to strangle her a bit for phrases like "my blooming stink flower" which has now permanently entered my vocabulary in order to distress my friends. she really knows how to paint a picture and keep a story moving. i found it fun to read in spite of my issues with it. i never felt bored reading it but rather at times i did get frustrated with the interpretation. i really loved hamlet's ghost appearing to horatio as hamlet is now burning with his father until horatio's promise to him is upheld because a dying oath is sacred. it was fun because hamlet's visage appeared in so many unique ways and he was always suffering or rotten and disgusting.
all in all? i wouldn't read it again but i don't think i'd write it off entirely. there are some interesting ideas presented but i've seen a lot better introspection into horatio's character written in three lines on tumblr than in the whole of this book, i'd argue. that being said, it was really nice to just breeze through this book and touch the world of hamlet and horatio once more in a different view whether i agreed or not. that being said, i'll never say a nice thing about this book again since the author likes kenneth branagh and we all know how i feel about him
