Lightfoot, her toes curled tight around the branch, she walked a few feet, hopped down to a larger limb, then swung hand over hand through the tangle of leaves until she reached the trunk. The bark was rough beneath her fingers, against her toes. She descended quickly, jumping down the final six feet, rolling when she landed.

I believe we’re supposed to notice that Leaf here is becoming quite gifted at climbing trees.

Some days, as they made their slow way up the muddy shore (Gendry wanted no part of any roads, and even Hot Pie and Lommy saw the sense in that), Arya felt as though the lake were calling her. Arya saw this and didn’t think to immediately get out of there. That’s not like Arya.

(Resisting the urge to go full tin foil hat and suggest that crow was Bran influencing events. I’m not that far gone, okay?...)

She never saw where the giant had come from. Three black dogs raced across his faded yellow surcoat, and his face looked as hard as if it had been cut from stone. Suddenly Arya knew where she had seen those dogs before. The night of the tourney at King's Landing, all the knights had hung their shields outside their pavilions. "That one belongs to the Hound's brother," Sansa had confided when they passed the black dogs on the yellow field. "He's even bigger than Hodor, you'll see. They call him the Mountain That Rides."

Did you think the chapter transition was about Dontos and Yoren?

No, it was about two Stark sisters having hostile encounters with Clegane brothers. Too bad we’re surrounded by imbeciles who can’t put 2 and 2 together.

No yeah, sure, one of these situations has romantic undertones while the other is terrifying. Totally.

Final thoughts:

Can I just rant for a second?

We’re roughly 30% through this book (we’re flying!), and there has been maybe 2-3 instances where the chapter transition hasn’t been meaningful in some way.

You’re all following along, you know I’m not working especially hard over here - it’s not complicated making the connection from one chapter to the next.

So when somebody tells you all the explosive Sansa and Jon chapter transitions are a coincidence, please know they’re a self-confessed moron. They’re telling on themselves. They’re admitting they’re too stupid to connect very obvious dots. There are no coincidences.

Bestie I'm obsessed with Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom Just... Kanej😍 And Wesper And I am in love with Nina Zenik I'm still in denial about Matthias😭

And I liked the Nikolai duology too, Zoya is a queen and no one can convince me otherwise, and Zoyalai is so perfect

But I thought the main trilogy was trash Like SAB Alina was the most annoying protagonist ever. Seriously. Did she ever make a choice in any part of the story?? It felt like things were happening to her instead of her doing things. Less of a protagonist and more of a side character in her own story.

Siege and Storm Alina was much, much, better. I loved how she stepped up to the mantle of the leader, but Mal annoyed me so, so much. I'm not sure how I feel about Mal. It felt as if the only time they're 'happy' together is when Alina is helpless and out of her element, and the moment she becomes powerful he can't live with it. I mean, he as good as told her that he couldn't accept her being Grisha. I don't really like him. Ruin and Rising was decent, but I hated the ending. It felt like Alina had to lose her powers in order to end up with Mal, and I'm not sure I like that.

And I... kinda liked the Darkling? Not in a 'he did nothing wrong, he's precious and pure' kind of way but more in a 'he's an anti-villain, but he's complex and I can see his perspective even if I fully don't agree with it' sorta way. I mean, if I had to deal with six hundred years of reports of Druskelle killing my kind and Shu Han using people I know as experiments, I'd go a little insane too. I didn't understand what that part about him making an army in the Nikolai duology was (like, wouldn't it be safer to just go into hiding until Mal, Alina, and Nikolai are dead?) but I read Demon in the Wood and it was better than the entire trilogy combined.

So... yeah. I'm feeling conflicted. Might reread TID to feel better.

Nikolai, Genya, David, Tamar, Tolya and Zoya carried the entire series. And yes I also liked the darkling very much. Like I don't ship darklina but if there was a 'best written villian award' the Darkling would win.

It broke my heart when he betrayed Alina cuz I pretty much hate Mal. Like the book Mal is ew. I don't ship Alina with anyone. Show Mal tho. ✨✨✨

Also yes the feelzzzzzz this gonna leave u with oh god. I cried. Like 3 times. Over 3 different people. In SoC and KoS. Like Matthias, David AND WHEN I THOUGHT HANNE DIED. Omg I was ready to be done with my life like just why. But thank the saints. Whew.

1. Paperbacks!! :)) I just love how you can always tell how much someone loved it, I also really like the floppy paperbacks. And although it hurts me to break book spines, I quite like their look 🦧 they are also way more affordable which makes them way hotter than hardbacks 🥰

2. Short Chapters! I always have to stop reading at a chapter mark, so long chapters are such a pain 🦧 I also feel like I go faster with short chapters 😭

3. It depends on the characters and the plot I think- like I would have not wanted six of crows to only have one book 🤚 but a book like the secret history only needed one book. So I like both, but it highly depends on the characters and story </3

4. Very hard, because I have series commitment issues 🦧 (coughs in like the three series I’m in the middle of)

5. Depends on my mood ;) like do I want to be a sad bitch today, or do I want to be a happy? Jkjk, okay but I think from a writing standpoint bittersweet endings are superior, but from an emotional standpoint, sometimes I just want them all to be happy </3

The Shadow and Bone trilogy is ✨ shitty ✨ I don't get the hype. Alina is a stupid whiney baby, Mal is a jealous ass and I don't know if it was just the French translation but the writing was bland. Alina's internal monologue is so fucking boring omg, girl wake up and do something. Her brain is empty for anything other than Mal and the Darkling. I got so bored reading those books that I ended up skipping entire pages and didn't even try to read the third book (only skimmed through it to get a general idea of what happens). I hated Alina so much that I ended up rooting for the Darkling. He was actually my favorite character in the books.

And it's such a shame because I actually really liked Six of Crows. I don't know if it's because the translation was done by another person or if it's because the mood and the story are so different from Shadow and Bone, but in any case I hated those books. The show was smart for including SoC and giving us POVs from characters other than Alina.
