What you think about it? I'm not a huge fan of Leona, but I think something simple would look great on him.

I had a heart attack because the first ask opened with "hey girl-" AND I ALMOST THOUGH IT WAS LIKE PJS L*ONA SAYING IT TO ME 💀

I’ve been seeing so many people disappointed by the fact that his pajamas card ISN’T Leona straight up shirtless or showing a metric butt ton of bare flesh 😭 And some people trying to cope by saying he’ll be shirtless in his groovy or alt look (or making fan art of their attempts to strip him down)… I think the expectations were set way too high here. Idk what y’all were expecting out of Disney, but I feel it was almost certain they weren’t going to go down the full-on fanservice route. (The Stitch cards are different; the context of a beach makes shirtlessness “okay”. Same goes for the Octatrio being naked in their true forms. The manga is, to my understanding, dealt with by the Octavinelle mangaka and her team, who seem to have more creative liberty with the visuals than the game devs, who have Disney scrutinizing them a lot more.)

I’ve been treating the underwear-only/completely naked Leona fan arts like memes and jokes more than serious predictions. (They’re super entertaining to me!!) I had my expectations set pretty low for the actual card art, anticipating the usual amount of Leona skin showing, if at all. I think I was mostly right in that department?? I find it kind of funny that the devs gave him long sleeves and (what appears to be) long pants hfhsbwieke almost like they were expecting the thirst tsunami that would ensue if they showed arms or legs so they intentionally made the clothes a lot more modest 😂

This is me saying to leave him alone, I’m here to cover for his sleepwear because I like it more than I care to admit 😭 Get behind me, ojitan… I’ll defend your honor…

FIRSTLY ☝️ Is he not… uncharacteristically cute here???? The shot is very candid, it looks like he’d mid-yawn as he’s tossing his hair or something. And look at how his hair spreads around him in elegant waves??? It’s a really good depiction of how naturally graceful he is, even when he is putting in zero effort to appear that way. I appreciate that the artists leaned into Leona’s gap moe!!

I do think the long-sleeved pajamas are a bit of an odd choice given the climate of the savanna, but I don’t think it’s super strange for Leona to be wearing this. Savannas are hot during the day, but they can be cool in the nighttime, in which case you wouldn’t want to be shirtless. The pants look like silk, similar to Kalim’s pajamas, which makes sense given his royal status + access to immense wealth. The linen shirt resembles an African dashiki or dubaku—a nice way to give a nod to his country’s culture. It’s very loose, which promotes air circulation, and seems to have the sleeves rolled up?? (It’s not like he’s intentionally covering up every inch of flesh, which I would argue is uncharacteristic of him.) So maybe Leona did that to better suit his own tastes. The light color of the shirt is also so nice on him; it makes the darker colors of his hair and skin stand out, drawing you towards his face.

Just because Leona tends to be slovenly with his manner of dress (like not caring if buttons are loose or if he’s showing cleavage) doesn’t mean he refuses to be in full dress. He states that he’s fine with dressing up in finery every once in a while (Liongarb) and doesn’t take issue with every outfit where he’s covered up (like his Outdoor Wear), albeit the latter definitely is a trend (he complains about how stuffy and uncomfortable various outfits, like his Fairy Gala Couture, are). I think we’re just focusing on the many instances of him hating being covered instead of the few instances where he does not really care, so long as he’s comfortable.

The low cut of the shirt definitely matches Leona too. More er… “breathing space” for him. Bro does NOT care if he’s got his cleavage flashing 😭 The laces there are undone too, so it makes me wonder if they’re like that because they got loose from his tossing and turning and Leona just never bothered to fix it, or if they’re got loose because of his… chest size 💀

Personally, I prefer it this way!! It’s a lot more enticing when a character is mostly covered up because then you get a lot more excited in those instances when they aren’t covered up. You come to appreciate a modest forearm or palm and other often overlooked places.

Fun fact, in a tweet by Yana, she shares that, during a development meeting, a staff member expressed concern about undoing Leona’s braids for this illustration, since it is considered a traditional hairstyle. (Leona expresses in-game that braids are the norm for lion beastmen to wear.) Yana reassured them it would be okay since one illustration in the second light novel already features one of his braids undone; it’s just so subtle that it went under the radar. Apparently that staff member went, “Eh, is that true?!”
