Pup release fan filmed video for “Morbid Stuff"
Man, this band does it for me. I’ve listened to them on a very regular basis for the past 5 years at least. Morbid Stuff dropped almost a year ago and they dropped a new video on us for the title track. This isn't a new idea but it fucking fits this band so perfectly that you'd think they originated the idea of letting fans film their music video. This is a fucking throwback to the 90s of handheld 8mms and video cassette recorder fan-filmed videos and I fucking love it. Nostalgia is a drug and I am mother fucking Nos-addicted. Gimme more, please. This shit reminds me of that fucking Bon Jovi video for “Bad Medicine”. Your love is like bad medicine, bad medicine is what I need. There ya go Pup fans, I just referenced a comparison to Bon Jovi have a good day.

Code Orange will release ‘U N D E R N E A T H’ 3.13.20 on Roadrunner Records
Code Orange is back with a new video and an impending nuclear explosion of a record. U N D E R N E A T H is set to release March 13th on the iconic Roadrunner Records. The first taste is the title track which is accompanied by a visually mirroring of the creepiness of the track. Immediately your brain will make you think of Nine Inch Nails. Guarantee you think of “Closer” and makes you wonder if Trent is going to get flooded with inquiries about this band. Besides the obvious comparisons, Code Orange stands out in the realm of music they paid their dues in. They’re goth kids from a hardcore scene. They still give their influence of rust belt hardcore a shoutout in every song they put out. You can still believe the rough sound that is embedded in their music comes from an honest place.

Trophy Eyes debut new song "Figure Eight"
Aussie heroes Trophy Eyes return with a new single “Figure Eight” on Hopeless Records. Growth, evolution, and expanding consciousness through art, travel, and interaction with an ever-growing fanbase has done wonders on this band. Lineup changes and dodging bull shit comments from “die-hard fans” ugh. Herewego…
Let me put this out there for the 37th time. No artist owes you as a fan anything. If you paid for a record and didn’t like it, it’s not raw chicken at a restaurant you don’t get to send it back. Chalk it up as a loss and move on with your life. In today’s age, comments sections give the ability for haters to grow like gremlins in a waterpark filled with mogwais. It literally is why we are teetering on the idea of eliminating comments completely from everything we do.
This fanbase has cried for 4 years now about them changing their style. I’m so tired of these people. It’s not like it used to be. You didn’t only have records and the radio. You have the internet. You can find all the music you want that you don’t have to spend time degrading, all on the internet. I feel so bad for these people. I have a tendency to check for their discography. I’m always hoping it’s an award-winning engineer or producer who is shitting on a pop-punk or emo or metalcore record. The day that happens I’ll quit the internet.
As with all Trophy Eyes music, I fucking love this tune. I’m stoked to see the record they write as a four-piece. We were lucky enough to catch them at Rockstar Disrupt in Michigan last summer, and they were an excellent start for our coverage of the day. I highly suggest following them for news about more music in 2020, and well if this isn’t your band anymore I suggest the last Knocked Loose record on repeat.

Senses Fail 'From The Depths Of Dreams' Tour wsg Hot Mulligan and Yours Truly
It's unbelievably hard not to gawk at the photo behind the bar. A young Chris Cornell performing at St Andrews Hall damn near 30 years ago. I swiftly order a Dirty Blonde tallboy and down it in the 6 minutes before Yours Truly come on the stage at 8pm.
Yours Truly are fixated on how Americans say "Mother Fucker" as if their accent is anymore normal than ours. I love it. I fucking love anyone who understands there's so much more to us here than just being Trumpets and complete pieces of shit. We also say "Mother Fucker" better than anyone.
Yours Truly are reminiscent of early Paramore but I'm positive every band that is remotely close to pop-punk with a female falsetto vocalist get that comparison. Musically I feel it in my chest. Visually its stimulating as all members who are standing can't help but move on and feel their own music, I'm guessing in their chests also. High kicks inspired by I'm guessing by their parent’s desire for David Lee Roth in Van Halen videos.
This is a great band with great songs. Funny banter in-between songs help elevate them also. Definitely something down under that is giving way for an absolute shit-ton of Aussie bands making their way to America over the last few years.
Who ever is running the music in between bands need a fucking award. Underoath. TBS. Deftones. Thursday. My Chemical Romance. Oh man, MCR. I'm Not Okay is asking for it. Screaming emo kids scratch that drunk emo adults. Oh boy. They're gonna let this play out...
Hot Mulligan are Michigan natives that play a blend of math rock, post-hardcore, pop-punk, and emo rolled into one creative package. This is the kind of band that once you see them, you're addicted. I can feel them coursing through my veins already.
Their set elevated the crowd participation drastically as security has had their hands full in the front row catching crowd surfers. This shit reminds me of the late days of hall shows here in the Detroit area. Plenty of VFWs, polish halls, and of course UAW halls that I cut my teeth at. It’s easily the soundtrack to an Alpha Emo doob cruise out in the country. Chances are, I'm riding home and ripping a number listening to this shit. Now I have to go through their catalog. Good thing I can take the long way home and blare this shit. At the very least Hot Mulligan gained a middle-aged fan out of my stoned ass.
Back on that house music tip, more Taking Back Sunday, The Used, Korn, Rage Against The Machine and more, seriously… award.
Senses Fail are titans in Emo and Screamo. This is a band that literally started from that hall show era and made a fucking career out of it. Buddy has been a steadfast leader of righteousness in change over the years. Opening up about so much of his personal life to let more people in and to show that we're all flawed in many ways and there is nothing wrong about that. Even going as far as rerecording their first EP, cutting "Bastard Son" and changing words out like "whore" and "bitch". Flat out not what I would do at all.
I think teen angst is a beautiful thing. I understand the misogyny issues here with their old stuff. I also don't hold everyone to a high as fuck standard just because righteousness is in. I love that they did this, but I think what the Descendants have done for years is better. Which is admitting that these songs were written in a different time by different feeling human beings. And for that changed the lyrics to songs that were written when they were in high school and still stand the test of time even though blatantly immature. I get what they did and why they did it.
I'm by no means trying to criticize their intentions or decision to do so. Emo during that era of time was very anti ex gf not anti-woman and that shit got so fucking twisted in the years since. Its actually more anti-ex-significant other just depends on who is listening. Speaking of, maybe not a good idea to play "Misery Business" by Paramore right before Senses Fail comes on. I mean this is a song they stopped playing all together too. Senses Fail are in perfect form. This might not even be remotely close to the original lineup but this is the best you’re going to hear this band play. Absolutely on point, heavy when they need to be, 3 acoustic songs in the middle of the set to warm your broken blackened hearts. I could not be happier to be here.

BMTH piss off people that haven't been paying attention for years anyway with new singles "Medicine" and "mother tongue"
Media outlets report that Bring Me The Horizon have gone pop?
Who fucking cares? Who the fuck cares? No artist is making music for you, and if they are they’re doing it for the wrong reasons. Artists don’t make music for you to listen to, they create because they need to, because not writing these songs would be detrimental to their demise. Yeah I said it. What doesn’t surprise me is people being mad about this now… This band went lighter into the mainstream realm fucking years ago. The fact that they’ve gone deeper into what has brought them success is exactly what I expect musicians in 2019 to do. There are way more bands and artists to compete with, even though art isn’t meant to be a competition, it definitely has turned into one. It’s even a pissing contest by people on social media about who can shit on them the most. Every shitty snotty comment about their style changes always come from people who haven’t brought anything to the table. Look if Animals As Leaders wants to tear into them, I’ll listen, but Fuccboi34 on Instagram, kindly fuck off 10x faster than you should.
JUST GONNA PUT THIS OUT THERE… IF YOU SAY THE WORDS “I SEE YOU” IN REFERENCE TO AN ARTIST OR ATHLETE, YOU BETTER BE AHEAD OF THEM IN THE GAME. IT IS NOT MEANT FOR SOME COUCH RIDER TO SAY THIS TO ARTISTS TRAVELLING THE GLOBE HEADLINING FESTIVALS, OF COURSE YOU SEE THEM, THEY’RE EVERYWHERE. YET NO ONE SEES YOU. GET IT? YOU HAVE TO BE SEEN TO SEE. THAT IS HOW THIS SAYING WORKS.
Back at it with the Ill Behavior… If you need BMTH to be deathcore for you to listen to them, then apparently you like their old stuff. We don’t commend or bash that idea, we understand it, hell half of the idea of this site is to also make fun of that elitist viewpoint on today’s music. We instead would like you to see something for what it is, space. When this band decided to take a left turn into popular sounds, they brought with them their heavier roots. So no matter what, there’s always going to be that heavy guitar and pounding drums regardless of what Oli and Jordan do vocally. Their elements from 2004 are going to dwindle over time because well, they aren’t going to be the same people they were 15 years ago… are you the same person you were 15 years ago? I know flat out the guy I was in 2004 would beat the fuck out of the guy I am in 2019. And I’m glad I can say that, because it means I’ve changed. For the better. You might hate that you can’t react at their shows the same way you did at Warped 2008. Here’s my thing… this band used to get so wasted on stage that they would blow chunks on their equipment rendering their instruments useless. Yeah. You want those guys back? I know I don’t. I love who they’ve evolved into. Their grown ass men with heart and an absolute shit ton of integrity.
People act like they could live in Oli’s shoes for more than an hour and act the same way he did 15 years ago. It’s absurd. The righteousness in fandom’s needs to go away. You can have your opinions but it sure seems like a lot of people who want the deathcore BMTH are fucking ignoring the amazing deathcore that’s out there now. You can give up on this shit if it doesn’t fit your teacup baby, I just think you can move on. If you still want the heavy shit I suggest checking out Lorna Shore, Whitechapel, and Enterprise Earth all have records coming out in 2019. This hole created by these dudes growing up and you crying about 2006 can be easily filled by the countless bands pushing the sounds you’re looking for. Instead of bashing the evolution of artists, evolve your listening, or be the elitist you’re trying so hard for all of us to consider you to be. That’s okay whichever you choose, but with so much good music out there and the ability to find whatever your looking for without walking miles, riding a bus to the city, then sitting in a record shop for hours, AND PAYING FOR THE FUCKING MUSIC maybe cut back the bitching on what art you think you’re owed.
NO ONE PUT A GUN TO YOUR HEAD TO MAKE YOU BUY THEIR RECORDS, TICKETS, MERCH. SO USING THE WORD “UNDERWHELMED” JUST SHOWS HOW SPOILED WE HAVE BECOME.
Try growing up, having empathy, and maybe realizing just because it’s more accessible to make music doesn’t make it that much easier to be a creative group with consistent releases of the same genre over and over when your influences and lives continue to evolve. Look, some people will play thrash metal forever, good on them. Others will change. Others will do weird shit because experimenting with art is actually a fucking blast, the shitty commenters don’t know this because all they do is “performance art” by shitting on actual artists on social media.
Creating a culture that deems itself worthy of bashing artists while those doing the shit-talking are not bringing anything to the table is what bothers me the most. If the people saying these records these bands are making are terrible just so happen to be creative geniuses, then I wouldn’t be so apt to rant about this shit. Problem is, Derek in St Louis doesn’t know how to play guitar outside of an old version of Garage Band thinks he needs to rip into artists like BMTH. A group that has toured all over the world, worked with countless award winning artists, producers, fucking orchestras, smashing Coldplay’s dinner, headlining festivals, and touching millions of people in the process… thanks Derek, glad you could bring your raw unadulterated artwork in comment form.
I truly hope the teen angst dissipates when you find bands that you actually like. See we love Bring Me The Horizon here. Actually, love all the shit they put out. Not just because we’re fans of the dudes but because they write music that has spoke to us at DIFFERENT points in our life. Just because you’re 14 and pissed as fuck doesn’t mean the dudes dealing with a divorce, owning a tattoo shop, clothing company, writing a record, and having to please millions of Derek’s across the world have to stop what their doing and write Chelsea Smile 2. Maybe this new music isn’t for you, that happens ya know? It really does. I can guarantee this band didn’t write this record to shut anyone up, it instead intended to be something that helps them alleviate the Derek’s from their fan-base completely. “Its tripe” or “It’s shit” and so is your discography Derek. Where the fuck is your discography Derek? I want to listen to your glorious gift to the world Derek, give me your albums. Dropbox me all your music Derek’s out there. For now I’m gonna go put “Medicine” and “mother tongue” on because it feels so good to listen to music that is fucking delicious to us and also painfully excruciating to the Derek’s of the world.

Movements release video for "Full Circle" and are set to return to Detroit in May
California natives have taken over the sad boy emo kid movement over the last few years. From opening shows for Knuckle Puck to damn near headlining Warped Tour’s final cross country trek.
Their sound feels like a miserable cold Mid West winter but these beautifully emotional dudes are actually from Southern California. Something that caught me so off guard as I expected Movements to be a band from Illinois or Minnesota or here in Michigan. Safe to say the sound that put Mid West Pop Punk and Emo on the map have given way to all the emos everywhere via the internet, and I couldn’t be happier.
I wish this shit was around 15 years ago, maybe then my dark period would’ve been a little brighter.
If you listen to Movements, this song sticks out. If this shit is new to you, watch this video and work your way backwards. This is a wonderful band that really pulls at the heart strings of all of us Mid West saddies sitting around waiting for the thaw to really get underway, STILL! Check out the glitched out video for “Full Circle” below and hit the Majestic May 17th for their next Detroit tour date.

Falling In Reverse, Ice Nine Kills, From Ashes to New, and New Years Day @ St Andrews Hall
Sold out. Wrapped all the way around the Detroiter bar over 2 blocks away. Already experienced two different people trying to sell me shit. I love you Detroit, hustle that shit.
New Years Day is fucking insane. It was an absolute blast to photograph their highly intense set. Once I shot my three, I went upstairs to witness Ash Costello egging the crowd on. Demanding that the audience crowd surfs through the entire song and how other cities make it happen.
I had no doubt that Detroit would prove to be intense as always. Literally before the song even started, crowd surfers were riding the heads and hands of fellow Michiganders before their unrelenting homage to the Texas foursome was unleashed. "Fucking Hostile!!!"
Ash Costello can no doubt command a crowd and it's hard to hear their name muttered as an opener. But that just shows the caliber of live show on this tour.
Headliners are opening this tour. Make sure you get there early. I even made time to sit in line as press at this certain venue gets no extra treatment when it comes to getting into the building. I know this because I watched a guy get barred from an event here years ago for trying to skip the line and then get shitty with security over it, classy. This was before I ever got a photo pass to any show.
Her vocal skills never waivered. She nailed all her parts and even gave us some more. This band is a delight to cover, photograph, and headbang to.
From Ashes to New are a blatant Nu Metal band. As much as I hate negative genre bull shit. I can't help but that's what it sounds like. Almost as if Twenty One Pilots got a guitarist and rapped even more. The 14 year old I once was would love this band, the 35 year old I am today isn't into it. I love the subs, the drummer is fucking intense and a great player and the guitar riffs are on point.
Ice Nine Kills has creepy horror movie segue music and it is creeping through the floors of St Andrews down to the Shelter. As I lean my fat ass up against the downstairs bar-top I get a chill run down my back. Eerie is an understatement as the tone is set for INK to lay waste to Detroit once again.
I made my way from the Shelter then back up to the main floor photo pit. I was not surprised by the "IT" single balloon tied to a mic stand. Nor the other mic stands that were donned with severed limbs and hands, and black roses and a crow. All themed to the members costumes which became evident as they came out on stage.
Their horror themed metal-core makes my heart feel gooey. Breakdowns that want me to stab my negativity in the dark. WAIT! What the fuck did Spencer just say? "I thought this was Detroit, don't you kill people here?" I fucking out loud said "HA!" and it made one Ricky chuckle. Apparently my timing is still on.
This band executes everything perfectly. The effects on the snare drum that make it sound like a fucking bomb are fucking welcomed with open ears. I can't be more stoked on them or more disappointed in myself for photographing a different set at the last ever Warped Tour in Michigan. I'm so glad I got to witness though. Absolute insanity.
Falling In Reverse, Ronnie Radke’s baby, came out to a roaring crowd and ripped into “I’m Not A Vampire” and got the ending set started off proper. Ronnie announced he was sick but his love for Detroit meant more than cancelling. Even though at moments he looked like he felt like complete shit, he gave it 100%. I’m sure he felt like complete fucking garbage. Between songs I could see him growing more and more exhausted. Still, he kept it going through the whole damn set.
The band was on point and well I would’ve loved to get some photos of the current touring drummer Christian “CC” Coma of Black Veil Brides, but he was on a rather large riser and well above a decent angle for any shots. Such a fucking bummer, but holy hell, what a show! This was a great event and I had a blast from start to finish.
I even got the best feeling as I walked out of St Andrew’s… witnessing what used to be the smoking section out front was reserved as a “puking station for drunk women and their sad boyfriends. Sorry fellas. I didn’t take a photo as that is fucking bad taste, and well I didn’t need to as that sound, sight, and smell, is fucking seared into me.

Lorna Shore return with "Darkest Spawn" and it's fucking brutal.
Lorna Shore had a shakeup in 2018 as longtime vocalist Tom Barber left to join Chelsea Grin. For weeks we wondered who would take the helm and in comes CJ McCreery formerly of Signs of the Swarm. They dropped a video for “This Is Hell” which instilled reassurance to fans around the world that Lorna Shore isn’t going anywhere. This band has put out some of the heaviest shit I’ve ever heard in my life. They write with such accentuated technical skill that my simpleton emo and punk split mind can’t ever figure out half the instrumentation these weirdos have created.
They make me feel stupid. They make me feel weak. They make me feel like I used to feel when I would hear Cannibal Corpse and Death in high school. They are the next obscenely brute deathcore band to take over. 2019 is easily their year, and the case for this is in the pudding ya corndogs! Listen to “Darkest Spawn” because you want to, listen to it again because you need to, then share it because this band fandom shit is a straight up mini-cult without all the letting em fuck your wives. I mean unless that’s like your thing or something, then cult it up. I’ll just listen to this shit when I’m smoking my weed or doing dabs, because to me art is meant to be enjoyed, and I don’t need to sacrifice a goat to feel a part of this shit.

Holding Absence released their self-titled debut album on Sharptone Records (USA)
Every now and then I stumble across a video and I don’t know what to think. When it’s so overpowering and emotionally gripping that you think “Is this even fucking real?” it really is rare but it’s happened a few points in my life. Holding Absence has me in their hands. They have had me for months and I could not be happier to talk about how they make me feel and why I think you should listen to them.
The main thing here is they are highly emotional, ethereal, deep, massive, and repeat-worthy. If you’re a fan of bands who go inward to find their inspiration instead of seeking it elsewhere, then their emotional foundation will match up with you greatly.
Somewhere in between Being As An Ocean and Counterparts but not as heavy and not as fast with soundscapes that could fill a roman stadium. I can guarantee that big emo bastards like myself will cry at their shows for years to come.
Holding Absence is unlike anything else in music at the moment and their debut album is only a month old. They are not a new band necessarily but to most people in America, they are basically brand spanking new.
This record is something post-hardcore fans will love deeply and wholeheartedly. It’s a record that will easily inspire other artists to dive deeper into emotional states that develop creativity at a level basically incomprehensible to non-artisans.
This shit took my heart and ripped it out of my chest, chucked it into a fucking frying pan, and served it pan-seared with a side of mashed potatoes. I ingested this record like I had to or I would starve. This shit made me want to break the 6+ years without a cigarette and suck down a pack of Camel Wide Lights like I am 19 again. HA, made a record that makes me wish it was around 20 years ago so the heavy and dark shit wouldn’t have been as overbearing. This shit could heal the broken if given the proper dose.
The main reason for this was the first song I talked about by them was one of the last singles before the record dropped. The video for “You Are Everything” gripped me, I’m a photographer, live music videos are my favorite music video cliche. If all music videos were just tour collages, I would be happy like a clam-bake.
Holding Absence had me fucked up the first few times we put this record on rotation. I couldn’t get through my thick fucking skull that this was their first full length. It sounds like an album well into a bands career. It’s massive and gripping, it pulls and gives you something worth coming back for. It will make you hate yourself for sleeping on this band and even though the record came out about a month ago, you’re pissed because you missed out on listening to the whole thing for a month… and you will never get that month back.
2019 is there’s to win or lose. Expect to see them come across the pond sometime late in 2019 if not 2020. Give them some love and listen to this record, buy this record, share this record. It is worth your ears, it is worth your devotion, it is worth a turn on the artistic soapbox. You can give this fucking gift of music to someone you care about, Nike that shit the fuck up and just do it.

THE DAMNED THINGS change lineup and drop video for new single "Cells"
THE DAMNED THINGS change lineup at bass adding Dan Andriano from Alkaline Trio and infamous ska punk legends Slapstick. This also marks the departure of both Rob Caggiano and Josh Newton. Even though Caggiano helped write the material for the new record High Crimes he chose to step away from the group.
In addition, they dropped the video for their new single "Cells". They also announced a tour with two shows in Michigan (Grand Rapids, Flint) later this year. Joining them on the road are two excellent bands; Crobot and He Is Legend. Making this a tour that should be sloppy, drenched in alcohol, and great time partying for all those involved. No bad vibes at all, instead these shows should be the definitive good time this May.
THE DAMNED THINGS are no doubt a super group with members: Keith Buckley - Vocals (Every Time I Die) Scott Ian - Guitar (Anthrax) Dan Andriano - Bass (Alkaline Trio) Joe Trohman - Guitar (Fall Out Boy) Andy Hurley - Drums (Fall Out Boy). It is interesting to say the absolute least and gives these dudes the ability to cut loose in a different genre than we are used to seeing them rock out in. The video itself showing all members dying at various points in the studio and continuing to play as Keith needs to knock this record out of the park. Check it out below.
