             “Pretty sure we’ve never even been people.”  Okay, that was probably definitely more true in Ginger’s case than Amanda’s, but that was only technicalities.  Splitting hairs.   Amanda hadn’t ever been right.  Normal.  Good.   She’d never fallen into the realm of what was expected or even what was wanted.  She was a freak.  She was broken, and damaged, and she didn’t have any place in the whole world anymore that she could call her own, now that she had been shunned by John.  He knew what she’d done,  that she’d broken his covenant, that her traps had been unwinnable -- there’d be no saving them, and no saving herself.  She could feel the ache in her throat, the throb in her jaw and the edges of her eyes as she tried to hold back tears.  “Fuck.”  It was a hiss and a prayer and a sob, all in one, and she jammed her fists against her eyes, angrily rubbing away the moisture that threatened to spill. “Fuck him.  Fuck his tests, and his trials and his moral high ground like he’s got any fucking feet to stand on -- he’s no better than anybody else, no better than me -- fuck him.  Fuck all of them.”

    ❝      i  wouldn’t  say  that ,    Beedee  and  i  are  pretty  resourceful .      ❞        the  droid  in  question  let  out  a  less - than - confident  trill  followed  by  an  uncertain  beep ,    bringing  a  wince  out  of  the  Knight .      neither  he  nor  the  woman  were  wrong ,    necessarily ,    but  Cal  liked  to  keep  a  little  optimism .      it  wasn’t  the  first  time  they  walked  into  something  blind  before ,    as  unfavorable  and  preferably  avoidable  of  a  situation  that  was ,    they  usually  made  it  out  alright .      BD - 1′s  map  function  was  on  the  fritz  after  the  little  guy  got  knocked  around  by  one  of  the  local  fauna ,    reminding  Cal  distinctly  of  when  they  first  met  and  helped  each  other  out ,    but  Cal  didn’t  have  the  tools  this  time  to  fix  it  in  a  quick  pinch .      he’d  need  a  full  workbench  this  time ,    much  to  his  chagrin .      he  wasn’t  sure  how  much  use  it  would’ve  been  in  this  situation  anyway ,    though .      gloved  fingers  mused  already  windswept  ginger  locks  as  he  scratched  the  back  of  his  neck  with  a  quiet ,    relenting  sight .        ❝      we  did  get  a  little  turned  around  back  there ,    though .      if  you  wouldn’t  mind  pointing  us  in  the  right  direction ?      ❞

"Okay." It's a simple reply, offered simply, softy, with a smile that does a fair job of hiding the ache in her chest, and the guilt that settles like a weight on her shoulders -- she's long since learned that Ginger's bark is worse than her bite in the days closest to the full moon, she takes that in stride, but the reminder that she has yet to find a way to help, that she has yet to find some way to either help ease the misery of the transformations and the symptoms of Ginger's lycanthropy, or a way to cure her of it, that causes Reese misery. Surely, if she was given the curse of this sight, it would be for a reason --

"I'll find us a hotel for the night, and tomorrow I'll do some poking around, I'm -- sure we can find somewhere safe, for you, before -- we have time."
