And now for something completely different.

This is the ADHD Teapot. I made it in a ceramics class a few years ago. I use it to explain executive dysfunction to people who haven’t come across the term before (and those who think of ADHD mostly as Hyperactive Eight Year Old Boy Syndrome).

So, most people’s brains are like a regular shaped teapot with a single spout. Let’s say that your time, energy, focus etc is the liquid you have in the teapot. Your executive function is the spout, that directs the tea into the specific cup you want to fill-aka the task that you’re meant to be doing. Spills happen occasionally, but generally most of the tea goes in the right cup.

If you have executive dysfunction, (a symptom of ADHD, trauma, autism, schizophrenia etc.) you have multiple spouts going in different directions. You can try pointing one of them at your chosen cup and you will probably get some liquid in there, perhaps you will even fill it right up (finish the task). But meanwhile, tea is also pouring out of several other places and not going where you want it. If you have another container nearby, perhaps some of it will end up in there. But quite a lot of it is going to end up on the floor and accomplish nothing.

And at the end of the day you’ll have filled one or two cups ( or sometimes not even one) compared to the five or six that somebody with the same sized teapot (but only one spout) has filled, and everyone wonders why you’re so bad at getting tea poured, and why you make such a mess in the process.

One day I’d like to spend more time learning pottery and create a really technically good fucked up little adhd teapot. But that’s a long way off since i currently live in the outback and the nearest pottery workshop is some 400km away. But I figure that for now, it might be a useful or interesting metaphor to somebody even in its rough draft form.

This post is the cup I filled instead of cleaning my house btw.

When @nananarc released the Flat Chest body, I knew it was one of the missing pieces for Hilary's character design. I reached out to Na several months ago about working with them to update the body for both Dynamic AXL and switchfeet. Several months later, and just in time for Pride, I've successfully added the dynamic toggle to the UVT version, though switchfeet are proving troublesome. They might need to be put on hold for now. Next up, a non-UVT version of the dynamic body because Sanctuary deserves it

We’re making good on our goal of promoting independence between alters. Part of that is relying less on memory sharing and One Specific Guy to do a task and just learning to do it. Communication makes it so much smoother, and we can still use integrative skills if we want to.

The things I was not expecting about this approach:

We can front for way longer each. It used to be so easy to get pushed back because you don’t have this knowledge and that guy does, and then you just get sidelined because everyone gets cycled through like that. I am glad we have the muscles for voluntary switching, because I can see that easily leading to getting frontstuck or sidelined even worse

Our otherworlds are more active. They already were, but having external experience makes a huge difference in what each of us will branch out to internally, and we have energy left over because we’re not tossing each other around all the time or panicking about whether we can do the thing

More co-consciousness. Doing certain tasks still brings people close to the surface, so we get guidance on how to do the task better. Now I’m glad we learned barriers beforehand, because it gets noisy sometimes

Dissociation is more a control board than a switch, there are lots of dials and slides to futz with once you’ve played around a bit. And just like learning to use the board, it’s gonna take forever and some tears to get the result you wanted, but one bump of the elbow to get one you didn’t. It gets easier, and even when it gets harder you& still have the experience.

Sorry can’t talk rn, I’m conjuring up an au that involves fashion designer Jesse and his muse/ famous model boyfriend Nacho.

Ok fine. So a while ago, Jesse’s enthusiasm towards character design and sketching gave me the idea of him having a knack for it ever since he was little and following that passion as he grew up. His story about the wooden box is so dear to me not only because of the hopefulness it brings but also because it reveals that he pays great attention to detail and his craft, meaning he’d be a good tailor (creativity AND meticulousness? he’s a whole package). Despite his parents’ disapproval, he’d go on to receive a scholarship from a prestigious design school in New York - where he would move to to receive a higher education and really flourish.

Nacho, who still lives with his father in ABQ and has a hard time making ends meet, would be really close to going down that drug dealer path. Manuel would talk him out of it like “you’re destined for something great and legal mijo” and he’d actually listen. But he’d insist on moving somewhere else to get away from all the affiliations he had in ABQ and to find a better career opportunity/ himself.

Time skip. They’d meet in NYC in somewhat the same way all the supermodels got discovered. And that’s as far as I could get tbh.

(True story, my socials were bombarded with images and videos from the DSQUARED2 SS 2024 collection at the time, and my immediate thought I was “Yep, Jesse Pinkman would endorse this. And who (else besides Tyler Durden) would have enough cuntential to rock this unapologetically? Nacho Varga obviously.)
