One day I was eating canned spinach after warming it on the stove. I had just put a large fork full in my mouth, when I felt something like a soft chuck of wood that I had somehow failed to notice while stirring it on the stove.
I hadn't fully bitten into because I realized immediately that it didn't belong. However I had applied enough pressure to squeeze out the juices that had soaked into it.
I spit it out and examined it closely, soon realizing that this chunk of wood had two beady eyes.
Horrified, I realized it was a grasshopper.
Even more horrified I realized the juices from it had tasted good!
I did not finish eating the grasshopper, or the spinach.
If feels like such a weird thing for me to be repulsed by though. I have willing eaten crickets (the zoo offered a little snack pack of crickets marketed to humans, not pets).
I haven't had canned spinach since. I miss it. Surprisingly, this can of spinach was one of the major brands. I never expected for a large bug to make into one of their products.

species found!
The fact that animals that care for their young will sometimes adopt others' lost or orphaned young to raise along their own is just funny to me. I know that it's all hormonal and there's no conscious thought involved in it, but the internal logic of it is so funny.
"Baby = success. More baby = more success. I have one baby and I found four other baby. I have five baby. I am being so fucking successful right now."
